About Me I was born and raised in the Philippines until my family moved to China when I was ten years old. We then moved to the Unites States when I was fourteen. I’m currently studying in Andrews University School of Architecture, Art and Design. I love to travel, discover, experiment and explore new things to see and eat. One thing that drew me into pursuing architecture is how it becomes the background for daily life. Even though it’s usually unnoticed, life isn’t complete without it.

The Big Story In collaboration with Christian Campos, we came across a quote by Anne Frank while working on this project, she said, “Think of all the beauty that is left around you and be happy.” We can take what she said into this project and say, “Think of all the beauty that is left, and preserve it, nurture it, grow it and sustain it.” We realized that this project wants to be part of something bigger, it wants to be part of a big story that people have forgotten. Nowadays, we tend to focus on how much money we have and how many things we have; this is how we measure how good our life is. But there is more to having a good life; having a good life means being in a meaningful built environment, being capable of keeping the mind and body healthy, having the time to partake on what the world has to offer, and being able to be part of a community that is constantly improving, and finding ways to sustain a brighter future.

The Central Hall The Central Hall houses the central administration of the project and the community culinary educational services. In addition, it also consist of two halls that can be used for multi-purpose events. The Central Lobby can hold exhibitions and presentations. Here, the community will be able to showcase their artwork or promote new ideas about the food industry. The Great Hall can be used for social gathering events, such as weddings, banquets and lectures. The design of the Central Hall reflects a traditional barn - something that community and its farmers can relate to.

Farmer’s Market Structure Plan

The Farmer’s Market The Farmer’s Market is the structure where the Farmers can freshly sell their produce. Each truck are provided with a stall that they can park. During the summer, they can open up towards the street. During the winter, the farmers could park on the outside and use the stalls to sell their canned and jarred produce towards the inside.

The Home The program and planning of the home revolves around the idea of efficiency regarding function and family. The living, dinning and kitchen spaces are located in one open space to accommodate gatherings and events. The open plan also gives the house a grander feel. In addition, A porch next to the open plan common spaces can be opened during summer days.

The Connection One of the main goals of the project is to connect the architecture of the house to the architecture of its neighborhood. Rather than locating the common spaces to the back of the house, they are located towards the front and side to allow views to the street and the park on the east side.

East - West Section

The Construction The materials of the house is intended to reflect the traditional architecture of the neighborhood. The context and environment in which the house is located is full of historical Victorian wood architecture. Ultimately, the goal of the home is to borrow from the past and allow it to have a contemporary essence. The main structure of the house are SIP panels, supported by exposed timber in the interior.

Cylindrical Solar Panels These cylindrical modules can be laid flat and collect direct and diffused light from all angles. Paired with a light colored roof, it can collect up to

20 percent

more sunshine than conventional flat solar panels; and in addition, it can act as grills for shading; enhancing texture and aesthetic.

Vertically Pivoted Windows As heat rises and gathers up towards the ceiling, these vertically pivoted windows can be opened to catch western summer winds; pushing out the heat from the atrium and collecting cool winds at the same time.

Passive Cooling and Heating The atrium will gather solar heat during winter and warm the offices inside. During the summer months, it can be a significant tool to gather borrowed light, protecting the interior from direct eastern sun light and improving day lighting.

Premise The goal of this project is to provide a place where people don’t just see an idealistic painting of Native Americans in the wilderness of untamed America or think of casinos along interstate highways but also present a process on who they were in the past, how they got to where they are now and what does
