EVAN WONG ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN PORTFOLIO
Hello, My name is Evan Wong, an aspiring architect. Growing up in Hong Kong, I have always been fascinated with how spaces influence people’s thoughts and behaviors. I have been blessed with the opportunity to explore architecture through an intense curriculum in the past three years, and have come to realize the architects’ responsibility to make positive impacts on people’s lives and the society. I am particularly interested in sustainable architecture, which creates less impacts on our environment, and healthful architecture which provides the users a platform to foster meaningful social relationships, a sense of relief and peace and a gateway to enjoy their surroundings and the nature. The following is a collection of projects and art works that reflect my passion for architecture and design. Thank you for your consideration and enjoy!
Sincerely,

Sanitarium Stanley, Hong Kong
Overview Stanley is located at the southern tip of Hong Kong Island. This place became a popular weekend getaway destination because of its close distance from downtown Hong Kong and seafront pedestrianoriented neighborhood where people can enjoy the precious fresh air and greens to take a break from the busy city life. Concept The main concept for this sanitarium project was to craft a nature-like environment in the “concrete jungle”. A nature-like environment allows people to escape from their busy schedules and brings the nature indoor so people can reconnect with the nature, even in an urban area. It also creates a friendly and uplifting environment which encourages people to enjoy their families and friends’ companion in their free time. Ultimately, this project aims to bring a sense of breathe and relief to the intense city life.

Relationship with the Community
Overview The Amtrak Michigan City Train Station is located by the waterfront in downtown Michigan City. This proposal crafts a welcoming, permeable, lovable and peaceful environment where people can hangout, relax and experience the nature. It contains an office building, a redeveloped train station, a hotel, a health club and a marketplace. 10
Goals This proposal divides the site into four blocks to create a permeable environment, unlike most of the buildings in downtown area. It also preserves the old train station for the great memories of the city to create a sense of belonging. The gathering spaces and the marketplace create a welcoming environment which sets the tone
for proposed development of the nearby properties, a riverfront commercial strip, a park and a marina, to create a peaceful place. Ultimately, this proposal aims to remind people something they have taken for granted, their important loved ones’ companion and the beauty of our nature.

Localized Site Plan of the Triangular Sitting Space, Rowhouses and Cottages
Goals This proposal aims to create a little village of faith and to build an intimate community which encourages close social interactions. The project consists of a health club, civil spaces, student housing, rowhouses and cottages. Enclosing the public spaces with private spaces, the views are directed toward the civic spaces which allow the residents to observe the activities happening around them; this main concept encourages them to go out and interact to build this intimate community of faith.
