Hevila Hevila is a health food and wellness store in Germany. Derived from the Biblical region “Havilah,” the inspiration of this store’s name translates into the dedication of serving its health-conscious audience. The client expressed the need for the mark to give off a sophisticated feel, yet be simple enough to be functional across multiple platforms. I came up with a mark that evoked the fresh simplicity of health and nature.

Berean Integrated School Berean Integrated School was established in 2009, in Lipa City, Philippines. The client had several values that were to be incorporated into the logo, and the challenge was to bring all of those together into a simple, coherent symbol that would stand out among the cluttered logos of the rival preparatory schools in the surrounding area. The diverse color palette ended up being beneficial to differentiate different portions of the school and its programs, and the mark has been used everywhere, from the faรงade of the building to the uniforms to the banners used for the various events held by the school.

Old Logo

Andrews Academy Re-Design Andrews Academy in Berrien Springs, MI has been a strong supporter of Adventist education since 1922. I worked on giving a more contemporary look to their current logo while still maintaining the elements familiar to many who have had experience with the brand. Beside the re-design of the logo, I also offered collateral design for their letterhead, envelopes, business cards, and apparel.

BioBoost I worked with the Biology Department at Andrews University to develop a mark for their upcoming freshman jumpstart learning program. The choice of color conveyed the energy and enthusiasm the faculty had for this subject, while the sans serif font maintained a professional feel with its clean boldness.

Dabbs Mints This project allowed me to examine marketing trends within the competitive mint market and explore different package design options for carrying small items. I settled on the pillowcase design for its self-locking properties and distinct shape. Various colors differentiated the mint flavors.

28 Fundamental Beliefs The 28 Fundamental Beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church required a set of icons for the redesign of their flagship site, www.adventist.org. This was a year-long project that I was able to work on, with many challenges in terms of finding out which aspects of each belief should be at the forefront to drive each visual symbol.

CD Connection Re-Design This was a web re-design project where I worked on the look and feel of a website called “CD Connection. I updated the logo, re-thought the navigation elements, and followed a grid-based structure for each page layout.

Web Graphics for Adventist News Network From time to time, I’ve been contracted to create various map graphics for Adventist News Network’s online articles. I have provided a quick turnaround time to meet tight deadlines. I’ve made maps depicting places in Nigeria, Pakistan, Togo, and Zambia.

Personal Portfolio Web Design For a web design class, I was tasked with designing the look and feel of my personal portfolio site. I denoted sections with specific colors and icons, strategized for responsive design (concerning smartphones and iPads, specifically), and created a lightbox design for the portfolio category of the site.

Senior Thesis Project This past year, as I prepared to launch into the career world after university, I found myself wishing for more advice and information from people who had ‘been there, done that.’ What would a successful design career look like? What kinds of things could I do to give my career its best start? As I reached out to a couple designers and awaited their feedback, I realized that a mentor in the field was just as important – perhaps even more than – snagging my “dream job.” This idea of mentorship was the foundation for my senior project. I looked at designers and artists I admired and contacted them via email. Some of the individuals I had the privilege of dialoguing with included Stefan Sagmeister, David Airey, Jacob Cass, Chip Kidd, Tom Bancroft, and John Trauscht. I connected with designers from all over the world, including Sweden, Germany, Australia, and Switzerland. Their willingness to share lessons learned was a great experience for me. I narrowed my choices down to have a more streamlined approach to my work, then created simplified visual representations for each designer’s quote to reflect the concepts of the content. This project was displayed in a gallery setting, and it was well-received by design-minded and non-design invididuals alike. As I received more content than I knew what to do with for the requirements of this senior project, I aim to continue this post-college, exploring other mediums and venues with which to share this valuable information.
