TEDxAsheville is a multidisciplinary multi-media event where virtuoso performances, great talks and cutting-edge product demonstrations inspire and invite us to change ourselves and the world around us. Presenters and performs share their idea or performance of a lifetime with an eager audience of engaged fans of TED and TEDx.

Guidelines Time on Stage Speakers and product demonstrators will have 1 to 18 minutes to
present. Performers will have up to 10 minutes. The time is meant to be long enough to say or show something of significance, but short enough to hold everyone’s attention and to be easily watched as a recorded video. Talks will vary in length, and you may be asked to adjust the length of your performance or presentation.
Coaching Once selected, all speakers are strongly encouraged to work with
one of our presentation ßcoaches. There is no charge to receive this assistance and it is available even to those not in our immediate area.
Video An additional benefit of participating in TEDxAsheville is that your talk or
performance will be videotaped. This video will be made available online following the conference at the TEDxAsheville website. The talk may be selected for TED.com, where some talks have attracted over one million views. In total, TED talks have been viewed more than 500 million times worldwide and this exposure has transformed the careers of many TED speakers and performers. The most-watched TEDx talk of all time was recorded in Asheville in 2010.
Compensation TED has has never paid speakers to appear, but has always committed to creating an experience that’s fulfilling and beneficial on all sides.

APPLICATION A complete application package will include the following: 1. A one-sentence description of your “idea worth spreading.” If you wish, you can also send a longer explanation, up to one page. Performers, please send a video of you performing. Demonstrators, please send links or videos to help us understand your product and how you will demonstrate it.

2. A short video audition Present an overview of your “idea worth spreading”. Your video will be considered for both the content of your idea AND your ability to inspire your audience. Brevity is welcomed, and we do not expect high quality production values. So long as the sound and idea quality are good (please check the sound quality). We challenge you to discover how best to express your idea and we invite your creativity and passion into the process. You may want to show yourself talking to an audience or you may choose to talk directly to the camera. We can assist with filming if needed and will gladly discuss other creative ideas that you have regarding how to complete this part of the application. The total video length should not exceed 5 minutes. You may provide a link to your uploaded video or arrange for it to be hand delivered.

Talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TEDxAsheville, now in its third year, was North Carolina’s first TEDx event. A sellout event since its inception in 2009, it has hosted presenters including “Last American Man” Eustace Conway, CNN Hero Doc Hendley, and a video presentation from environmentalist and author Bill McKibben.
