it is all around us. it can be natural, it can be man-made. but everything has it. we can touch it and we can feel it. it creates a visual illusion but isn't an illusion. This season is inspired by texture. The feeling in a texture. The physical touch of a texture. The beauty of texture. Social, cultural and environmental factors have a massive role in design and trends. Trends are constantly evolving, each goes and comes back. This report looks at how colours, silhouettes, materials and accessories are brought back and developed for Autumn / Winter 2018/2019. Texture is a key driver for the upcoming season, with heavy materials and strong constructions adding an interesting and sturdy element to silhouettes.

With a focus on texture, Depth in Darkness, depicts the ranges of deep blues to de-saturated browns, greens and purples. An ideal palette for the Autumn / Winter 2018/2019, the depth and textures created in nature reflects the colour and fabrics and mood of the upcoming season.

From the detailing of the coat, to the entire silhouette, this season calls for many different uses of shearling. Corduroy will be back on a grander scale, used for jackets and bottoms.With new and developing technology, materials are constantly evolving and advancing in terms of properties and blends. The success of puffer jackets recently continue through the use of quilted materials in the form of accessories now; puffa scarves. The peplum belt acts as a belt and corset in one, enhancing the waistlines.

Shine and neutrals might seem as a juxtaposition, but texture and finish allows for this mix to complement well together. Inspired by the finish and smoothness of sheer materials and textures seen around us, on our hair, and our skin, is reflected in the fabrics and colour trends. The neutrals see a range of de-saturated browns and greys. Millennial pink continues in a natural tone; becoming more rich and earthy. This season asks us to bask in our nature and Shine in Neutrals.

Not only used as an accessory, the puffer quilting will be brought back in other statement-making forms such as mini-skirts. Wide legged pants have been trending for decades in different variations. This upcoming season, we see pants going wider allowing for a more airy, and comfortable fit. Fabrics in neutrals range from developing animal skin, sheer materials and smooth leather. The skin-tight glove makes it’s way into trending accessories for 18/19.

With culture becoming more accepting and open, the brights of the season are inspired by the textures seen in different cultures. Embroidery is brought back with a more rustic outlook but still in a colourful way. The textures and colours in our sandy deserts, bright skies and colourful festivals, such as Holi, is evident in fashion this winter. This season asks us to Vibe in Brights.

Staples this upcoming season includes, midi skirts, which brings the high-waisted trend forward in a full volumed silhouette. As well as, hoodies. Moving forward, hoodies will become more luxe looking. With different panels allowing for oversized sleeves but a perfect fit on the body. The high-waist continues here with wide and sometimes slashed cuffs for style. Embroidered materials are used in apparel as well as accessories, reflecting the nature of human c u l t u r e .

Inspired by the smooth and comforting textures around us but also the rawness of it, this season asks us to Soften in Pastels. Allowing ourselves to accept and acknowledge the roughness of nature, in de-saturated tones. From greys with different bases to orange tinted pastels, these colours marble together for the upcoming season.

Shearling is seen mixed in with sheer fabrics as well as beading. Materials have repetition with lines through the use of corduroy and pleated materials in a variety of different silhouettes. Edges are exposed with raw seams depicting the roughness of nature merged with smooth pastels. The bomber will also be panelled this upcoming season, allowing to juxtapose the smooth fabrics with textured finishes.
