ABOUT PIRACY
Maritime piracy has become a major threat to much of the worlds shipping traffic. It is not a new phenomena, since it always existed in certain parts of the world. However, areas that used to be safe, have now become heavens for pirates and the costs to the shipping industry is increasing. The main areas of piracy are around the Horn of Africa (off the coast of Somalia, Gulf of Aden, the Arabian and Red Sea), along the Niger Delta, off the coast of Nigeria and in the Malacca Strait between Malaysia/Singapore and Indonesia. There are some other danger areas such as the entrance to the Amazon river and along the Venezuelan and Colombian Gulf Coast, as well as off the Coast of Bangladesh.
