“For me, it doesn’t get much better than stunning wildlife art created with passion to support endangered animals”
W
elcome to the 2016 Wildlife Artist of the Year exhibition at the Mall Galleries. This is the ninth year that my foundation - the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) has run this prestigious event. It attracts artists from all over the world and showcases some of the best wildlife art while at the same time raising vital awareness and funds for the endangered wildlife that DSWF works so hard to protect. For over forty years I have seen my art as a valuable way of raising awareness and funds for the wildlife that I love and I am thrilled that so many of the artists exhibited here share that same passion.
Every painting, sculpture, postcard, catalogue or print sold here this week, and every donation made, will help fund conservation projects across Africa and Asia which work to protect some of the planet’s most iconic and threatened species. Thank you to all our generous sponsors including Kingsley Print & Design Ltd for sponsoring this catalogue and to all of you for your support.
David Shepherd CBE, FRSA
Founder & President The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation
About DSWF Founded in 1984 by wildlife artist and conservationist, David Shepherd CBE, the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) works to protect some of the world’s most iconic and endangered animals. Born from the desire to give something back to the animals that helped David become as established artist, art remains key to funding our anti-poaching, conservation and education work across Africa and Asia. We FIGHT for change on the world stage, calling for an end to the trade in ivory and tiger parts; we pursue our passion to PROTECT by funding anti-poaching, conservation and park protection work and we ENGAGE communities, companies and individuals to support our work and to help create the change in attitudes and ethos that will ultimately protect the world we love. Our current funding protects: Elephants in Zambia and Uganda Lions in Uganda Painted Dogs in Zimbabwe Pangolins in Zambia Rhino in Namibia and India Snow Leopards in Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan Tigers in Thailand, India and Russia We fund undercover investigations into wildlife crime and trafficking in India, South Africa and across Asia.
DSWF would like to thank everyone who has helped make this exhibition possible including all the staff, judges, artists, celebrities and sponsors:
