Introduction COMTO’s visual identity (brand) is the persona of the organization. It is designed to complement our philosophy “Moving the Nation” and facilitate attainment of our objectives. How the public perceives COMTO is affected by what they see. As such, every aspect of our identity must appear consistent in all areas of communication. The successful deployment of our brand depends to a great degree on strict adherence to the guidelines delineated in this style guide. Controls and standards are therefore essential for guaranteeing consistency and professionalism when presenting COMTO’s visual identity. This style guide provides guidelines for the proper use of the COMTO logo and the 38 COMTO Chapter logos with tagline, typography and color system. It is important that the effect of our identity not be deviated. Identifying symbols may not be altered or distorted in any way.

The COMTO Brand Standards The Logo The Logo is the principal visual element in the identification system. The design represents the abbreviation for Conference of Minority Transportation Officials.

The COMTO Logo

The Logo should be used with two spot colors only (80% black and red). When depicted against a dark background color, the Logo should be displayed in reverse (negative form). This will maintain the Logos legibility and distinctiveness. The Logo should not be used for decorative purposes or enclosed by any form such as a border. Exact duplication of the COMTO Logo is essential. Do not redraw or modified in any way. It should not be decorated or added to and should not be used in outline form. The Logo should stand in contrast to all other elements. In order that other visual elements do not dominate our Logo and to protect the brand’s integrity, we specify clear space around the image. This clearspace is equal to the letter height of the “c” in the Logo on all sides.

The COMTO Logo in black

The Logo must be accompanied by the proper proprietary notice. The proper notice in most cases entail the use of the “0” notice of registered ownership.

COMTO Chapter Logo In an effort to maintain the integrity of the COMTO logo, as well as provide each of the COMTO Chapters their own identity, an individual chapter logo has been created. It is imperative that the newly created chapter logos be the only logos used by each of the chapters in all of their communications. The chapter logos can also be applied using all black, the same as the COMTO logo.

The COMTO Brand Standards

Primary Color Pallet

The Color System The primary color palette was selected to act in concert with the Logo and produce a feeling of vitality and motion. When printed together the colors are very strong and visible. They give consistency to COMTO’s brand. Spot color reproduction is recommended whenever possible for maximum color brightness and saturation. Four color process reproduction is recommended for use in newspapers, magazines and whenever spot color reproduction is not available. The COMTO colors should always print at 100% value and never diluted byprinting them as a lighter color value. Grayscale reproduction is recommended when implementation of the logo may not be acceptable in color. For example, when situations arise due to design intent or cost, the color bands may be reproduced in grayscale. Â
