ASSISTANT Coach | Jake Harmon (1st Year) Alma Mater: Grace Bible Carl Whitehouse Carl begins his fifth season as the men’s soccer coach for Davenport University. Whitehouse, a native of Wolverhampton, England, will guide the Panthers program with the assistance from Jason Woolery. Carl took on the role of head coach after a very successful collegiate career in the NAIA at Aquinas College and Davenport University. Carl was named the WHAC Coach of the Year in 2010 as he guided the Panthers to a 15-7-0 overall record while claiming the school’s first ever regular season WHAC Championship, WHAC Tournament title and a bid to the NAIA National Tournament. During his time playing at Aquinas College, Whitehouse led the Saints to a WHAC Championship and was named an NAIA All-American. He then spent two years in goal for Davenport, leading the Panthers to the WHAC Tournament title and Region VIII Championship game in 2005. Carl has had quite the experience on the sidelines as well as he was an assistant for Aquinas College, Western Michigan University (helping both the men and women to MAC titles) and one year for Davenport University. Carl lives in Byron Center with his wife Karen and two children Ashton and Anja.

Jason Woolery Jason begins his fourth year as the assistant coach at Davenport University. Woolery joins the Panthers staff with eight years of coaching experience. 2011 SEASON PREVIEW The Panthers come into the 2011 season after posting one of the most successful campaigns in their short six year history. Davenport won a share of its first ever Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Carl Winterbottom regular season title and their second ever WHAC tournament title, which advanced the Panthers to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history. Playing with a young lineup that featured nine freshman and three sophomores, the team looks to carry that momentum as they begin 2011. Having graduated the senior leadership of David Wood and Alex Boehm, Davenport University Head Coach Carl Whitehouse moved quickly to fill the void left by the outstanding play makers. By bringing in six new faces for the fall campaign, the team hopes to keep up the challenge for honors this fall. A deeper varsity squad will help improve the overall team performance during a tough campaign as a stiff non-conference schedule will begin the 2011 season. Road trips to Iowa, South Dakota, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois will test the Panthers squad before league play. The WHAC slate will begin in October and will include a single round robin system to determine ranking for the WHAC tournament. “Expectations for the new season will be high, commented Whitehouse, as challenging for the WHAC Championship and the automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament are sure to be the goals for 2011.” The Goalkeeping position will be led by returning Honorable Mention All-American Kevin O’Brien who hails from the Republic of Ireland. “Kevin performed very well last season and was recognized by the league coaches in being named the WHAC Defensive Player of The Year”, commented Whitehouse. The Panthers are returning four All-WHAC players from last season in addition to O’Brien. Defenders Carl Winterbottom (Coventry, England), Chase Burgess (Dorr, Mich.) and Donal Lynch (Cork, Republic of Ireland) join midfielder Jai Maw (Macclesfield, England) as the core of a team that went 15-7 during the 2010 campaign. Winterbottom is playing

his final season in a Panther uniform after posting two goals and one assist as a junior. Burgess and Lynch were a big reason why the Davenport defense was one of the best in country by allowing just 20 goals in 21 games heading into the national tournament. Overall, 15 players will return including seven of the top ten scorers and the entire back line and midfield which also features sophomores Stuart Collins (Cork, Republic of Ireland) and Ryan Duffy-McGirr (Chesterfield, England). The top returning scorer from 2010 is junior Jesse Asanin-Miroux (Thornhill, Canada) who finished with five goals and one assist last year. Gerard John-Williams (Arma, Trinidad & Tobago) will also play his final season as a Panther after missing the final eight games last year due to a leg injury. The depth and strength of the squad this time around has been addressed with the signings of two student athletes from over the pond. Midfielder Bradley Lediard (Birmingham, England), along with defender Hjalmar Danielsen (Stavanger, Norway) will bring much needed experience and soccer knowledge to the Panthers in 2011. Local players adding strength to the squad include midfielders Mitchell Nousain from Muskegon and Nathan Kravat from Fruitport. Both players should be challenging for a starting spot. Once again the WHAC will be tough with Madonna, Aquinas, Cornerstone, Siena Heights, Indiana Tech and Concordia all competing for the conference title. Davenport will open its conference slate at home in a night game against Madonna on October 1.

2010 SEASON IN REVIEW Six Game Win Streak – After dropping their first two games, including a 3-2 loss to No. 17 Auburn University Montgomery, the Panthers reeled off six straight wins to bring their record to 6-2. The six game win streak included four shutouts. Strong Conference Regular Season – Davenport powered through their conference regular season, winning their first five games and outscoring their opponents 9-1 in those games. Their only blemish came in the season finale against Aquinas in a 3-4 overtime loss that decided the WHAC Regular Season title. WHAC Tournament Champions – After defeating Concordia and Cornerstone at home in the first two WHAC tournament games, Davenport traveled to Aquinas to decide the Tournament Champion. Jesse Asanin-Miroux’s goal in the 55th minute of play was all Davenport needed to claim their second WHAC Tournament title 1-0 over the Saints. First Trip to the NAIA National Tournament – In their first ever appearance in the NAIA National Tournament, Davenport fell to the second-ranked team in the country as Notre Dame (Ohio) posted a 5-0 victory over the Panthers. The loss ended the Panthers season at 15-7-0 which set a new school record for most wins in a season.

Kevin O’Brien Kevin O’Brien’s Exceptional Season – Davenport sophomore goalkeeper Kevin O’Brien became the third soccer player in school history to be named an All-American as he was honored on the Honorable Mention Team. Starting all 22 games for DU, O’Brien posted 15 wins including 9 shutouts. He led the conference with a 1.13 goal against average while stopping 78% of the shots he faced.

Post-Season Honors – Three Panthers received 1st Team All-Conference honors: Alex Boehm, Jordan Richards and Kevin O’Brien, who was also recognized as the Defensive Player of the Year. Chase Burgess and Carl Winterbottom each earned 2nd Team All-Conference honors. Donal Lynch and Jai Maw were each named to the 3rd Team. Four players received Academic honors, while Carl Whitehouse was named the WHAC Coach of the Year. 2010 SCHEDULE 08/21/2010 Lee University A 08/22/2010 #17 Auburn Montgomery A 08/24/2010 Trinity International A 08/26/2010 Univ. of Sioux Falls A 08/28/2010 Mt.
