MEGAN GARNER Megan begins her second season as the Head Coach of the Women’s Volleyball Program in 2011. Garner is a 2004 graduate of Cornerstone University where she played four years for the Golden Eagles as a defensive specialist. While at CU, she earned her degree in Secondary Education while earning defensive MVP honors twice on the volleyball team. One year after graduating from Cornerstone, Garner began her collegiate coaching career as an assistant at Taylor University under Head Coach Brittany Smith. Megan was part of a coaching staff for the Trojans that took them from just over a .500 record in her first season to eventual MCC Champions in 2007 as they ended with an overall record of 32-11. Since leaving Taylor, Megan moved back to Michigan where she has since continued her role as Club Director at FaR Out Volleyball Club. Under her direction at FaR Out, the club won the state’s first ever National Championship in AAU volleyball and has taken many teams to the National Tournament.
Krista Groce Krista begins her second year on the DU sideline after a very successful playing career at Kent State University from 2005-2008. Groce graduated from Kent State with a degree in Exercise Physiology and during her senior season as a Golden Flash, Krista averaged 1.62 kills/game and 0.70 blocks/game. Krista has also spent a number of years coaching in the AAU ranks while at Cleveland Renaissance Volleyball Club and FaR Out Volleyball Club. Krista is currently employed as an office manager at Avian Board and resides in Kentwood, MI. SAMI HAUSMANN Sami joins the coaching staff for Davenport Volleyball after finishing up her collegiate career in 2010 for the Panthers. Hausmann played at three different schools over those four years that also included stops at Grand Rapids CC and Northwood University. Sami earned collegiate honors at GRCC as she was named the 2007 and 2008 Raider Female Athlete of the Year while also being named to the All-Region Team. During her one year in a DU uniform, Sami appeared in 35 matches while finishing second in aces and third in digs. 4 | DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY PANTHERS

2011 SEASON PREVIEW “Relentless Pursuit” After getting her feet wet in 2010 as the second head coach in Davenport Volleyball history, Megan Garner returns a solid core and many new faces for her second go-round. The Lady Panthers were built on a SOLID foundation in 2010 and will look to continue their relentless pursuit towards their goals in 2011. Davenport returns nine student-athletes including their top leaders in offensive categories and top two in the defensive categories. Courtney DePriest
Seniors Over the last three years, there has not been a more steady defensive performer at the school and in the entire conference as it marks the final season for Courtney DePriest (Grand Rapids, Mich.). The 5’3 libero, who was named the WHAC’s top player at her position as a freshman, already has set school records for digs in a season and in a career. Joining her on defense in spending their final year together is Heather Deal (Ravenna, Mich.). Deal finished fifth on the team with 167 digs last season as a junior and will be a critical part to the passing game in 2011. The final member of the senior class is Jen Brunink (McBain, Mich.) who came to Davenport last season as a junior college transfer. The Schoolcraft CC product finished seventh on the squad in kills in 2010 with 108 and also tallied the fifth most total blocks with 57. Juniors Outside hitter Kassie Graves (White Cloud, Mich.) leads the junior class after a standout season in 2010. The All-WHAC Honorable Mention honoree set the career record at Davenport for kills as she finished with 379 added on to her 418 from her freshman campaign. Graves was also second on the team in digs with 340 and third in blocks with 64. Kelse 6 | DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY PANTHERS
Moon (Fremont, Mich.) and Brittany Bott (Hudsonville, Mich.) will join Graves as the centerpieces to the offense under Coach Garner. The two combined for 415 kills and were second and third behind their classmate on the kills list as sophomores. Sophomores Two players make up the sophomore class with one on offense and one in the back-row. Davenport has a bright future ahead at the net behind the play of Nicole Chase (Caledonia, Mich.). The 5’10 middle hitter, who was named to the All-WHAC Freshman team in 2010, returns for her second year after finishing fourth on the team in kills with 184 and first in blocks with 112. Ashley Hines (Canton, Mich.) gained valuable experience on defense for the Panthers a year ago and will look to use that in helping solidify one of the strengths of the team throughout 2011. Amber Getty, who red-shirted in 2010 due to an injury, will take the reins of the offense as one of two setters for Garner. The two sport standout (Amber also plays softball here at DU) had an illustrious career at Wayland High School where she earned OKGold All-Conference honors as a senior and was a four-year letter winner as a Wildcat. Freshman Hannah Stone comes to Davenport from Hudsonville HS where the middle hitter helped the Eagles to the school’s first ever Regional Championship in 2010. Lexi Spetoskey of Lake Oddessa will join Getty in running the offense after continuing a great tradition at Lakewood High School. The third piece of the 2011 class is Belma Alic who comes from nearby East Kentwood High School. The defensive specialist helped the Falcons to a Final 4 finish at the 2010 MHSAA Class A state tournament. The final addition is Rebecca Wadsworth from Jenison High School. Wadsworth was named the Female Athlete of the Year as a senior and will look to provide depth at the outside and right side positions. Schedule The 2011 slate will take a different look as the conference is moving to a single round robin schedule format. Davenport begins the season with their first ever trip to Montana where they will play a few single matches as well as a tournament at Rocky Mountain College. Only a few days later, DU will open up their home slate with a match against Indiana South Bend who is entering their first year with a varsity volleyball program.
