Before the season gets well underway, I would like to bring your attention to the rules of golf. Please see below some rules of the game which I see most commonly misunderstood here at Dubai Creek.

Rules of Golf

Giving Advice During a friendly game, many golfers simply ask their playing partner what the line they should take for a 10ft putt, or, whilst on the tee what iron they hit. This behavior is fairly normal for a friendly game, however is against the Rules of Golf in competitive play. Of course, the exception to this ruling would be in a team event.

Searching for a Lost Ball Prior to 2019, the search time for a lost ball was 5 minutes. Since the rule change, you now have 3 minutes! The clock begins when you begin the search for the ball, not after you have hit your shot. If the ball is not found in the 3 minutes, the ball is considered lost. Sprinkler Heads Relief from a sprinkler head is only granted if your ball or stance is interfered with. The line of play, between your ball and the hole, is not covered in this ruling. For example, if you are putting from off the green and there is a sprinkler between yourself and the hole, unfortunately you do not get free relief!

Lastly… Don’t forget our Local Rules regarding Sandy Waste Areas Sandy Waste Areas are deemed part of the General Area as defined in the Rules of Golf. Players can ground their club in these areas without penalty. Bunkers are distinguishable from waste areas by there being a rake present. Sandy waste areas do not have a rake present. When a ball lies in a sandy waste area, relief can be taken if the intended swing line is affected by the line of earth between the grass bank and the sand. The ball can be dropped in the waste area, at the nearest point of relief and no nearer the hole.
