The Mississippi Walleye Club, Inc. was formed in 1983 by a group of anglers in the Dubuque area who were concerned with preserving and promoting the sport of Walleye fishing. Today the club not only includes members from Dubuque but also has expanded to include members from throughout the Tri-States and surrounding area. We are a non profit organization with many of our members volunteering to help improve our communities. The Tri-State area benefits from a number of our club’s activities. The club has our Kid’s Day/ Outdoor Seminar; this event in August will allow children who wouldn’t otherwise be able to go fishing the opportunity to spend a day with a seasoned Mississippi angler on the water. Our riverside improvement projects include park benches and a universally accessible fishing pier on City Island. We are also volunteering to improve and promote the river itself. The river has a tremendous sport fishing tourism potential that is being overlooked. We in the Tri-State area need to improve the river and then promote it as a healthy river teeming with fish. A relatively modest investment in this river will have a substantial economic benefit for our community. The club is working together with many organizations to educate, promote and bring awareness of the environment of the upper Mississippi River.

Write an Essay and Fish with A Pro Who Can Enter: Boys and girls ages 9-12 from the Tri-State area will be invited to fish with local Pros, for the “Experience of a Lifetime”. How to Qualify: Boys and Girls ages 9 to 12 must write an essay: “Why do I want to go fishing?” On your written essay include your name, age, gender, address, phone number and parent/guardian signature. Mail your essay application to: Kid’s Day 2014 P.O. Box 748 Dubuque, IA 52004-0748 Qualifying participants will be notified by phone or mail. Fishing Seminar: Qualified kids will team up with members of the Mississippi Walleye Club or with seasoned area anglers, and fish in the Mississippi River. Each qualified child will receive a Rod and Reel, Tackle & Shirt. Concessions Available! The on-the-water fishing experience will be from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM. The weigh-in will be immediately following with prizes awarded for total team weight and largest fish per team.
