Diavel 1260 S

The Way Out #sogoodtobebad

New York Beyond Manhattan. Riding Away on a Ducati.

Diavel 1260 S - The Way Out

Dawn is breaking as the girl’s bike carries her across Brooklyn Bridge and towards the horizon. She is guided by instinct. This is how I imagine myself aboard the Diavel 1260 S. Behind me, the dark steel and glass skyscrapers of Manhattan tower upwards. I love this city. I have ridden its avenues as far as the end of the “island”. I tighten my grip on the handlebars of the Diavel and am almost breathless as I arrive in DUMBO. From here the view is unique. Chaotic Manhattan, seen from the opposite side of the Hudson River, has never looked

more stunning. How different things are when considered from a different perspective. I lose myself on the streets of Williamsburg, where art, architecture and fashion are in continuous evolution. The cultural revolution that has taken hold of these blocks has defied every convention, just as my own revolution began with a sprint across that bridge, suspended above the Hudson. On the streets of Williamsburg, you can appreciate just how the present is, quite literally, built on the past, the old red brick factories the base for new homes and businesses. Past and present coexist perfectly. Crossing after crossing, I approach the working-class

neighbourhood of Bushwick, which gives off a powerful creative energy. “It’s New York City, baby”. Aboard the Diavel, I travel the road along the east bank. Under the bridges of Queens, I am overwhelmed by the unexpected teeming of live that enlivens these almost Gothic-looking iron structures. The cold metal contrasts with the bright, warm smiles on the faces around me. My sprint continues as I deftly weave my Diavel through the chaotic New York traffic with almost feline grace. I am fully focused as I conquer this urban chessboard. But I don’t lose sight of my goal, in fact the ongoing pleasure of riding such a powerful, lively and exciting

bike makes sure of this. I reach Harlem, on the edge of Manhattan. And the skyline quickly vanishes from the rear-view mirrors. It is no longer the city buildings that stand out against the sky, but majestic, age-old trees. It’s time to change the riding mode of the Diavel 1260 S, switching from efficient Urban mode to reactive Sport mode as the road leads me into lush Bear Mountain Park. Every turn brings a rush of joy, and the pace picks up, the ride finally smooth and flowing. I focus on nothing other than the ride itself, appreciating every moment of pure riding pleasure. I am no longer escaping.

Williamsburg

New York is not just Manhattan. To find the city’s more authentic soul, we cross the Brooklyn Bridge and arrive in Williamsburg, a symbol of the Big Apple’s suburban culture. A place where exclusivity no longer has to do with luxury or extravagance, but with a continuous pursuit of the detail.

Coney Island

Coney Island, or the happy “peninsula”, has been populated by fun-loving New Yorkers since the early 1900s. A little retro, a little nostalgic, every day is a party here. As if the place wants to remind us that a carousel ride is sometimes all we need to have fun. In the same way that riders appreciate just how much excitement even the shortest trip can bring. Bear Mountain

As we escape the metropolis, the Diavel 1260 S pushes on in the pursuit of freedom, ready to discover new horizons, far from the chaos of the everyday. Weaving our way through the wide turns of Bear Mountain State Park, the contrasts between the asphalt and nature leave us breathless. We switch riding mode, from a more laid-back “Urban” to the reactive and dynamic “Sport”. GALLERY

Woodstock

Continuing north, we soon find ourselves facing an expanse that, seemingly without borders, offers only a sense of vastness. The destination is Woodstock. With its nostalgic stores painted in the colours of the past and shops selling floral patterned dresses and used vinyl, the memory of that famous 1969 concert is more vivid than ever. GALLERY

TRAVEL TIPS

TYPICAL FOODS

CLIMATE

Coney Dog A real New York speciality. Prepared with an oval bun, the hot dog is topped with either a tasty meat sauce or pickles and with the addition of onion rings.

New York has a continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers. Although it is on the coast, a combination of cold currents from Canada and warm currents from the Gulf of Mexico make for a rather unstable climate, with waves of bad weather alternating with beautiful sunny days. Temperatures generally range from 0.5°C in January to 24.5°C in July.

New York cheesecake A typical local dessert, it has a crunchy biscuit base topped with soft cream cheese and decorated with an abundance of sour cream, berries, and berry sauce.
