MASTER’S DEGREES At University College, our
master’s degrees require 12 courses (48 credits) and can be completed within two years. See the elements of the degree below: CORE COURSES - 5 COURSES (20 CREDITS) These courses help you understand the scope of activity, historical development, future direction and trends, and typical types and roles of organizations that operate within a career field. A research course and a culminating capstone course (either a project, seminar, or portfolio class) will round out your graduate experience. CONCENTRATION COURSES - 4 COURSES (16 CREDITS) These courses allow you to focus on a specific professional area within the larger industry sector in which you currently work or wish to work and master the skills needed to excel in that area. You will choose a concentration area from a degree program. ELECTIVE COURSES - 3 COURSES (12 CREDITS) Elective courses allow you to customize your degree and develop a broader perspective within or outside of your industry. 6-COURSE CERTIFICATES
The graduate Certificate of Advanced Study allows you to focus on specific subject areas and enhance or add a skillset. Six-course certificates require completion of 24 credits and typically take one year to complete—this includes four required concentration courses and then two elective courses. Certificate credits earned may be applied to a master’s degree in the same concentration.
NON-DEGREE
OPTION Missed an application deadline or want to try a course before you apply? No problem. Start at University College as a non-degree student and take up to three courses before you formally apply. We know how important it is to get started when you’re ready. All non-degree courses will count toward your master’s degree if you choose to pursue it and courses may also apply to your graduate certificate. MODALITIES
On campus courses meet once a week in the evenings, typically from 6:00 to 9:00. Online courses can be accessed anytime, anywhere and feature multimedia, discussion boards, chats, and more. Hybrid courses meet 50% online and 50% on campus. Hyflex courses give you the option to either meet online or on campus at a specific time.

We have a Student Financial Advisor available to help and the DU Financial Aid Office has specific information for graduate aid. After you apply for admission, complete the Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA). DU degree programs are approved by the Colorado State Approving Agency. A veteran planning to enroll in University College should first determine benefit entitlement and eligibility by calling 1-888-GIBILL1. Students who are entitled to VA benefits can call the Veteran Services Coordinator at 303-871-2074 or visit www.du.edu/veterans.
Students can begin taking courses in any given quarter even if they have missed the application deadline for that quarter. We allow our students to take up to three classes before they have to submit their completed application. We know how important it is to get started when you’re ready. Ask about starting as a non-degree student. International students have additional admission requirements, including: proof of English proficiency, official translated copies of transcripts (if needed), a photocopy of your current passport, SEVIS supplement, and a financial verification form. A regionally accredited baccalaureate degree is required for admission. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) in their undergraduate work from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution for full admission.
