DUDUM REAL ESTATE GROUP
A LETTER FROM OUR BROKER To our beloved community, I’m reaching out to you, now more than ever, with encouragement, with resolve, but most of all with faith that brighter days are ahead of us. Please know we are thinking of you and your families during these trying times and stand ready to help you in any way we can. We are in a period of uncertainty in our society, but I am filled with immense hope. As the President of Dudum Real Estate Group, I must say that I have never been more proud of our agents! About 150 REALTORS® have all shown up for their clients, reinvented their businesses, and done all that they needed to learn this “new norm” in order to best serve you, the clients. I’ve watched as they’ve mobilized to help the East Bay communities in which they serve. I’ve seen them make hundreds of masks, help neighbors, help entire neighborhoods, reach out to hospital staff, and first responders, while showing care and concern, and spreading happiness and hope to all, including people they do not even know. They say “crisis reveals character,” and the character that I’ve witnessed in our agents is why I have hope. It’s why I have absolute faith that brighter days are ahead. It’s why I have unwavering certainty that should you reach out to one of our REALTORS® with any need, real estate related or not, that they would not hesitate to be of service in any way they can. It’s why I truly believe the comeback WILL BE GREATER than the setback! Please note, that while we are honoring the shelter in place mandate (I encourage you to do the same), we are open for business. Fortunately, real estate is now considered “essential” and therefore, we are able to support all of your real estate needs, albeit primarily virtual. We still have many county and statewide restrictions and regulations to abide by while facilitating our sales transactions. The health, safety, and wellness of our agents, our staff, our community, and each of you is still our primary concern! Agents and staff are here for you, just in a different manner. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us to learn more on how we are working remotely to best serve our clients. I want to personally thank you for your loyalty and support. Dudum Real Estate Group is sending warm thoughts to you and your families, and together, we will get through this! Be cautious out there and please, stay safe, stay healthy, and stay home! Faith over fear... this too shall pass, and together, we will be better than ever! Sincerely,
JULIE DEL SANTO BROKER/OWNER

5 WAYS TO BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR DURING COVID-19 Originally appeared on thebolditalics.com, March 20, 2020
As stressful and scary as the COVID-19 crisis is, the ways in which we’ve seen the Bay Area community unite in the past couple of weeks are heartwarming. We’ve heard countless stories of neighbors helping neighbors, people starting fundraisers for those who have lost their jobs, and a collective call to support local independent businesses. But this pandemic is also making us all isolated (literally and emotionally). So while many of us want to help by doing something, it can also be hard to know exactly what to do when we’re stuck inside away from other humans. Turns out, there are many ways to help each other even when we’re at least six feet apart. Now is the time to step up and help someone who needs it — here are five ways you can be a good neighbor through this crisis.

STAY AT HOME LIFE
1. CHECK IN WITH YOUR NEIGHBORS The fewer of us out right now, the better, especially for older people and those with compromised immune systems at greater risk from the virus. If you’re young, healthy, and able, running an errand for a neighbor or someone in your community while you’re out is a super-specific, helpful way to give back. Since you don’t want to knock on their door, start by leaving a note with your cell number. Instead of saying “If there’s anything I can do to help, please let me know” try being more direct so they’re more likely to take you up on your offer: “I’m going to Safeway tonight, can I pick up some groceries for you and drop them off?” 2. START A NEIGHBORHOOD POD If you’re up for taking it a step further than just reaching out next door, we suggest starting a neighborhood group to pool resources. A good first step is to start by simply making contact with people around you. Create a form letter that you can distribute to your neighbors to get basic contact details and share both what they may need and how they are willing to help. You can also consider posting on Nextdoor. Another more formalized approach is to start a “neighborhood pod.” These are usually groups of five to 30 people, involve starting a What’s App group for people to communicate, and then working together to help each other during the crisis.
•
Oakland: Organized by the Disability Justice Culture Club to help those in need right now, especially disabled and/or elderly people of color.
•
Berkeley Mutual Aid Network: Started by community organizer Erica Etelson as a spreadsheet, it’s now operating through an organized website to help those in need.
•
If you want to create a community plan because your community is currently lacking one, don’t be afraid to be the point person and get the ball rolling.
4. PAY FOR CANCELED SERVICES THAT YOU HAD ALREADY BOOKED COVID-19 is devastating our local businesses; some won’t make it to the other side (see our ideas for shopping locally online and where to get takeout). Gig and hourly workers are also impacted. If you have regular appointments on the calendar — like with a nanny, babysitter, dog walker, spa or salon worker, fitness instructor, house cleaners, masseuses, etc. — and are one of the lucky ones to be financially stable right now, we strongly urge you to pay them even though you can’t get your services. If you have the means, you must take that responsibility seriously so they’re not left without income. 5. USE YOUR TECH SKILLS
3. JOIN A MUTUAL AID NETWORK Bay Area residents are actively creating and managing mutual aid networks, designed to connect and help those in need right now. The ones we know about are: •
SF Bay Area: Crowdsourced aid for folks in the SF Bay Area affected by COVID-19 or the current situation and a non-judgmental place to ask for help.
•
South Bay Area: A coalition of community organizations coordinating food and supply drop-offs to people’s front doors during the COVID-19 quarantine, prioritizing folks who are sick, disabled, quarantined without pay, elderly, undocumented, queer, black, indigenous, and/ or people of color — including those displaced from the South Bay in nearby areas.
We’re home to some of the smartest and most innovative people in the world — let’s spread this knowledge and these skills. If your local coffee shop is struggling to keep its doors open, help organize a marketing campaign to raise funds to keep it afloat. If your local cleaners don’t even have a website to alert customers what their plan is, reach out and see if you can easily build one. You can also offer to help people who could benefit from your tech skills, for example, helping someone file for unemployment, helping an older neighbor get set up with Google Home or FaceTime to connect with loved ones.

RECIPE NOTES: For an extra juicy bit of flavor, shred the apple instead of chopping, and toss the apple, bacon, and Brussels sprouts in a pan for 5-7 minutes for the flavors to come together and soften the Brussels sprouts ever so slightly. This salad can be dressed ahead of time and even tastes better leftover since the Brussels sprouts are so hearty.

ABOUT US
Bear with us please, as this is, of sorts, a love letter to our agents and staff who make up our brokerage. If you aren’t opposed to sappy sentiment, please enjoy and feel free to admire the photos to the left. That said, this is to our amazing agents – THANK YOU agents and staff for rising above your personal fears and helping others for no other reason than the health and safety of our communities and the love of humanity. You, like all people during this time, have concerns about your business, your finances, protecting your family’s health, and figuring out how to navigate and do business in this new environment with many new safety rules and restrictions. Real estate, like many other industries, is being asked to remain committed to an immediate future that remains uncertain, while staying hopeful and moving forward nonetheless. You are being asked to still serve your clients in some capacity, to still work in the midst of navigating this new norm, to coordinate virtual appointments in between homeschooling kids, to take care of loved ones while juggling conference calls, to check on the senior members of your family in between Zoom calls, and to be a partial front-liner while maintaining the safety and sanity of yourself and those around you. You could have sat down, shut down, given up, and hibernated. You did not. Instead you chose to RISE UP and make a difference! You all showed up in so many awe-inspiring, heartfelt ways! In the first six weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic and shelter in place, you did not remain idle. While you may have remained physically distant, you were not socially so. Many of you looked past your own concerns for the future and answered the call for immediate concerns of neighbors, coworkers, community workers, first responders, health care workers, and many more! We’ve seen you drop off paper towels to elderly neighbors, sew masks galore until your fingers were sore, organize donations of medical supplies, call your friends, family, clients, and past clients, bring food and coffee to ER staff, bake bread and other goodies for people you know and don’t know, organize fundraisers, spread seeds of hope and love, collect groceries for charities and businesses, and so much more! The list can go on and on. If crisis reveals a person’s character, it certainly echoes true in their business. As you are all the heart and soul of Dudum Real Estate Group, we are honored and beyond proud to see that because of your actions and reactions, our character as a company remains strong, caring and focused on goodness, because each of you have shown up and shown yourselves to be those things. Dudum is, because you are. THANK YOU! Thank you for showing yourselves to be everything we hope and aim to be as a brokerage and family. We are so proud of you and your generous actions during this unprecedented time...and we just know, the best is yet to come!

WHAT CLIENTS ARE SAYING ABOUT OUR AGENTS
SHERRY HUTCHENS & ADAM HAMALIAN HUTCHENS HAMALIAN PROPERTIES GROUP
"We worked with Sherry and Adam on the sale of our mom’s house. Initially, the task seemed like an impossible mountain to climb. Then Sherry and Adam stepped in to guide us seamlessly through the entire process. Whether it was providing their trustworthy resources to disperse the contents of the house, to work on making appropriate updates for a contemporary look, to readying the landscaping and staging the house for the perfect showing – we could not have done it without them. They gave us such peace of mind. It was painless and easy in their experienced hands. We were so happy with the entire process and highly recommend the Hutchens Hamalian Team."

ABOUT US
PETER GILLIS & MARY PISCITELLI "I have been represented by Peter and Mary for the sale of one house and the purchase of another. They are so professional, dependable, and go above and beyond to complete a transaction. Because of their skillful ways, my house in Fremont was sold quickly, thus no stress. A house was found in Martinez to my liking and they dealt with the seller in my best interests for a quick close." ~ Camille
BETHANNE GARDNER “I just recently sold my house in Walnut Creek, and my real estate agent was Bethanne Gardner with Dudum Real Estate. I could not have had a better REALTOR® , in fact she was awesome! Also as I had never sold a home before, she was there to help me understand all the paperwork I had to sign! She even sent out over 100 letters to the neighborhood that I was looking to relocate in and helped me to find my new home! Bethanne is a wonderful REALTOR® and will definitely go that extra mile for you whatever your needs are! She also adjusted her schedule to mine ensuring I was able to take care of family medical needs. She is kind, gracious, and has integrity. So if you’re in the market to sell your home or you’re a first-time buyer, you can’t find a better real estate agent than Bethanne Gardner with Dudum Real Estate Group." ~ Jacqueline M.
SABRENA LAWTON “Selling a home for the first time can be a daunting experience but Sabrena met with us before we listed and helped set us up for success. She recommended and helped schedule some repair work to be done so our inspection process was easy and trouble-free. She made herself available to answer any questions that we had and is very knowledgeable about the real estate market. Our property received multiple offers in a matter of days during the “off” season of selling. I highly recommend Sabrena because she is a REALTOR® that you can trust.”
MEREDITH & BONNIE KUMMELL “Meredith and Bonnie did everything I could expect and more to make the sale proceed smoothly and with minimal disruption to my life. This is the second time I have worked with Bonnie and both times she was excellent, and I am happy to say Meredith is doing a great job keeping that tradition of service and integrity going.”
