born to be wild? born to be wild? Are you the responsible type who isn’t happy unless you’re orginising everything and everyone? Or maybe you’re a happy-go-lucky gal without a care in the world? Well, did you relise the reason you’re the way you are could depend on the whether you’re a big sis’ or a lil’ sis’? Well, you do know! These days, we all know what starsign we are and what kind of person we’re s’posed to be, right? Well, now there’s a new way of looking at the way our per sonalities are - birth order! If you’re screwing up your forehead and looking all confused, allow me to explain. If you the oldest child in your family, then you will have whole different range of personality traits than someone who’s the baby of the family. Geddit? OK, here’s the lowdown:

Only kidlet, Leonardo DiCaprio with his mum has the kind of intensity that only child develops during all that solo time as a kid.

FIRSTBORNS GOOD STUFF : If you’re the eldest child in your family, you’re likely to be very capable at handling everything. You’re a true friend to those you love and are completely loyal and responsible towards them. BAD STUFF : You can be very posses sive of the people you care about and, when it comes to getting things done,. you’re totally focussed, to the point of e sometimes being bossy. WHY YOU’RE LIKE THAT : Firstborns always the first child in the family to do . new things (like learning to walk and talk, starting school, all that stuff), so they’re used to winning approval from the oldies. This makes them high achievers, determined to always do their best. Also, cos you’re older than your little brothers and sisters, you’ve always been the one in charge, which brings out your bossy nature. Lots of firstborn kiddies slip into a kind of parental role, which leaves them with a respect for authority and a strong

sense of responsibility. AT SCHOOL/WORK : You tend to be a perfectionist and are not happy until vou feel you’ve done your very best. You’re very motivated with your school- work, and you’re always well organised. Your thoughts and ideas tend to run in a fairly logical manner. IDEAL JOBS : Accountant, architect, CEO, doctor, journalist.

MIDDLES GOOD STUFF : As a middle child, you are totally easy to get along with. You have lots of friends because you’re openminded, adventurous and friendly. BAD STUFF : You don’t have very strong views and you’re not the best at standing up for yourself. Basically, you would rather tell a lie than start an argument, and you avoid confrontation wherever possible

WHY YOU’RE LIKE THAT : It’s the Jan Brady syndrome - you’re not the supe- rior, mature older sister or the cute baby, so you have to rely on ur personality and charm to get you by. However, you’re great at being he go-between in fights and the best at sorting out any family probs. AT SCHOOL/WORK : You’re an enjoyable person to have around the classroom or office. Willing to compromise and always able to see both sides of a situ- ation, you’re very friendly and sociable, but you still get the job done. You’re also patient and capable when it comes to working on long term projects. IDEAL JOBS: Social worker, real-estate agent, entrepreneur.

LASTBORNS GOOD STUFF : If you’re one of the babies of the fam, you love new and exciting things. Life is a great adventure for you, and you’re willin try anything. You’re also very affection ate to the ones you love. BAD STUFF : You hate taking responsibility for things, and avoid it at all costs. You’re not happy unless you’re discovering the centre of attention, which can make you quite selfcentred. You have little respect for authority. WHY YOU’RE LIKE THAT : Youngest family members avoid trying to copy their older siblings. They try instead to create their own space by trying new and different things. Also, cos you’re the youngest and your parents have

Middle sis Neve Campbell with older brother. Neve also has a younger bro who wheedles his way to posh film premieres with her.

Lastborn Alicia Silverstone sure is affectionate to her big bro David.

born be wi

already been through it all, can get away with a whole lot more than your older brothers and sisters ever could. Because of that, you’re not as hung up on authority, and you’re just a little bit naughtier! SCHOOL/WORK : You’re very charm- ing and love being around people. You’re the schoolroom chatterbox! However, you’re great at group projects cos you make everything lively and fun You also know how to hold people’s attention when you need it.

IDEAL JOBS: Salesperson, comedian teacher, counsellor, entertainer, DJ 7

be wild? THE ONLY CHILD

Brandy Norwood sure is in control of her lastborn baby bro Ray J.

GOOD STUFF: If you’re an only child you can be quite hard to get to know at first, but it’s always worth the effort. You’re a very conscientious person who’s determined to do your best. BAD STUFF: You tend to expect every one to have the same high standards you set for yourself. This leads you to be quite judgmental of others when they don’t live up to your expectations. WHY YOU’RE LIKE THAT : As the only child you have a very close bond with your parents. Because you aren’t con- stantly surrounded by other kids you tend to be mature for your age.

You else have a lot of the same characteristics as firstborn children rather than laterborns. You’ve been given encouragement and attention throughout your life, which leads to your desire to perform well. AT SCHOOL/WORK: You enjoy taking charge and people find it easy to follovw your lead. You’re very driven and have a fear of failure. You may find it difficut in group situations as you always think you’re right. IDEAL JOBS: Lawyer, manager, doctor.

Middle bro’ Taryll, baby TJ, and oldest bro Taj Jackson are one happy bunch sibs.

These are the questions you have asked those who have health problems.

Gf magazine can help you to solve your probs by answering your questions with our doc!

here comes the sunscreen. What exactly does the SPF bit mean on the bottles? Everyone keeps telling me different things. Emily, NZ. SPF stands for sun protection factor, in other words, you could expect a SPF15+ sunscreen to provide your skin 15 times its natural protection from the sun’s harmful rays. The Cancer Council recommends SPF15+ broad spectrum, water resistant sunscreen. Broad spectrum means the sunscreen filters out UVA rays, which cause ageing, and UVB rays, which cause burning, Both rays are believed to cause skin cancer. Apply sunscreen on clean, dry skin at least 15 minutes before going out. Reapply every two hours, or more often after swimming. Better still, protect skin with long-sleeved tops and long skirts or pants and stay out of the sun for long periods, especially between 11 am and 3 pm. 10

sicles. I am a 14-year-old girl and everynight I get really cold feet. Even when I wear socks, slippers and wrapped in them in blankets they still feel like ice. What is happening? Amber, NZ. This is very common problem and there are number of solutions. Make sure you get plenty of excersise. This helps your blood to flowmore efficiently though your body, which may keep your feet warm. Also, eat a healthy diet so your body functions at its best. If you’re still having problems, see your doctor to determine other causes.

“Apply sunscreen on clean, dry skin at least 15 minutes before going out.” “Make sure you get plenty of excersise.”

these weird bumps. I’m 13 and have weird goosebumps all over my upper arm, the sides of my face and near my upper thigh. The goosebumps have been there for ages and stay even cold. How can I get rid of them? Bumpy, NSW.

Dear, Doctor Dear, Doctor “Start a good skincare routine, including a daily moisturising.” “Allergic reactions can often be life-threatening”

If they are itchy or if they become more noticeable when you wear certain fabrics or eat certain foods, then it’s possible the bumps are caused by some sort of allergy. If that is the case, you should visit your doctor or pharmacist for medical assistance. If the bumps are not causing any pain or discomfort, then start a good skincare routine, including a daily moisturising with sorbolene cream after showering it may just be that your skin is dry.

rash decisions. I break out into a rash every time I eat strawberries. But, I love to taste them. Is there any way | can stop this rash from occurring? Jane, WA The rash is caused by an allergic reaction and, unfortunately, there is no way you can stop rashes from occurring except by avoiding strawberries Allergic reactions can often be life-threatening, so if you do eat a strawberry and you develop a severe reaction, such as a swollen face and neck, seek medical assis- seek tance as soon as possible. Be wary of other foods too, strawberries you are allergic to may also be contained in other foods.

If you have a medical probs, Dr Naomi McCullum can help you out. Write to : GF/ Dear Doctor, PO BOX 1001 Paddington, NSW 2021. Include your age and the stante in which you live. In New Zealand write to : GF/ Dear Doctor, PO BOX 2062 Shortland Street, Auckland, NZ.
