cannes Each year, the French Film Festival hosts the biggest names in Hollywood and beyond. For its 75th anniversary, DuJour caught up with 18 talented stars making their mark on the Croisette you feel it

rebecca hall

British-American actress, director and writer Rebecca Hall served as juror at this year’s Festival. With over 30 films to her credit and work in television and theater, Hall recently made her cinematic directorial debut with Passing, an adaptation of Nella Larsen’s celebrated Harlem Renaissance-era novel of the same name.

Edgar Ramírez

Venezuelan actor and producer Edgar Ramírez served on the jury of the Un Certain Regard competition at this year’s Festival. Later this year, he’ll star in Netflix’s drama series Florida Man, about an ex-cop who is sent back to Florida to solve a case, and the science fiction action comedy film, Borderlands, directed by Eli Roth.

Maggie Gyllenhaal

A member of 2021’s film jury at Cannes, actress and filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal returned with husband, actor Peter Sarsgaard, to celebrate the Festival after a year that saw her directorial debut feature, The Lost Daughter, receive many accolades.

Maggie sparkled in a necklace, ring and earrings from Chopard’s Haute Joaillerie Collection, along with an earring from the brand’s Precious Lace Collection

Olivia DeJonge

Olivia DeJonge can be seen starring as Priscilla Presley in the new biopic Elvis, directed by Baz Luhrmann, which received a 12-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. The Australian actress can also be seen playing the daughter of Kathleen Peterson in the HBO Max limited series The Staircase, based on the true-crime docuseries.

Vicky Krieps

Vicky Krieps is fast becoming a fixture at the Cannes Film Festival, having attended last year with three films and this year with two films screening in the Un Certain Regard section. The Luxembourgish Krieps was awarded the Best Performance honor for her portrayal of Empress Elisabeth of Austria in Corsage, directed by Marie Kreutzer. Her second film, Emily Atef’s drama, Plus Que Jamais (More than Ever), also earned the actress a lot of attention.

Mads Mikkelsen

A previous best actor award winner 10 years ago for the film Jagten (The Hunt) by Thomas Vinterberg, the Cannes veteran returned to the Festival to participate in an intimate talk back, Rendez-vous with Mads Mikkelsen, discussing his career in film. His upcoming film projects include Nikolaj Arcel’s King’s Land and Indiana Jones 5.

Joe Alwyn

Joe Alwyn stars opposite Margeret Qualley in the romantic thriller Stars at Noon, which won the Festival’s Grand Prix prize, directed by French film director Claire Denis. The English actor is also co-starring in the Hulu series Conversations with Friends, based on the hit Sally Rooney novel of the same name.

Lashana Lynch

Lashana Lynch will next be seen in Gina PrinceBythewood’s historical epic The Woman King, and then Matthew Warchus’ film adaptation of the book and musical Matilda. Earlier this year, the English actress reprised her role as Captain Marvel in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Michele Morrone

The breakout star of Netflix’s films 365 Days and 365 Days This Day (the third installment is due in August) is also a singer, signed to Republic Records. The multilingual Italian star’s debut album, Dark Room, is out now.

Letitia Wright

The Guyananese-British actress, made her Cannes debut in the drama The Silent Twins, based on the lives of twins June and Jennifer Gibbons, who refused to communicate with anyone other than each other. Best known for her role as Shuri in Marvel’s Black Panther, Wright will be seen this November in the highly anticipated sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

BELLA HADID

One of the most famous American models, Hadid always makes her presence at Cannes known. We spent time with her at the Chopard Loves Cinema dinner at the Hôtel Martinez

Adria Arjona

The Puerto Rican and Guatemalan actress made her debut at the Festival for the world premiere of Olivier Assayas’ HBO series Irma Vep. Arjona most recently starred opposite Jared Leto in Marvel’s Morbius and the Father of the Bride remake on HBO Max. She’ll be seen later this summer in Disney+’s Star Wars Andor, premiering August 31.

Devon Ross

Model Devon Ross makes her acting debut in Olivier Assayas’ new eight-part HBO limited series Irma Vep, alongside Alicia Vikander. The remake of Assayas’ 1996 film classic had its world premiere at Cannes and, in it, Ross plays Regina, the personal assistant to American movie star Mira (played by Vikander).

Tom Sturridge

The Tony-nominated actor was at the Festival to promote Olivier Assayas’ HBO series Irma Vep, in which he stars alongside Alicia Vikander. This August, Sturridge will star in the Netflix series The Sandman, based on Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel.

Adèle Exarchopoulos

No stranger to the Cannes Film Festival, French actress Adèle Exarchopoulos returned this year to present two movies: the comedy Fumer Fait Tousser by Quentin Dupieux, and Les Cinq Diables by Léa Mysius–presented at the Director’s Fortnight.

Emily watson

English actress Emily Watson made a welcome return to Cannes this year with God’s Creatures, a film directed by Saela Davis and Anna Rose. Watson first attended the Festival in 1996 for her first on-screen role in the Grand Prix-winning film Breaking the Waves, directed by Lars von Trier.

Charlbi Dean Kriek

The South African actress made her starring debut in Palme d’Or-winning Triangle of Sadness, from Swedish writer/director Ruben Östlundand co-starring Harris Dickinson and Woody Harrelson.

Scott Speedman

Scott Speedman stars opposite Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux and Kristen Stewart in David Cronenberg’s avant-garde film Crimes of the Future, which made its debut at this year’s festival. The Canadian actor be seen next in Lena Dunham’s film Sharp Stick, also out this summer.

Harris Dickinson

Actor Harris Dickinson leads this year’s Palme d’Or-winning film, Triangle of Sadness, from Swedish writer/director Ruben Östlund (out in theaters later this year). The English actor will also star in the highly anticipated adaptation of Where the Crawdads Sing (out July 15) and the murder-mystery film See How They Run opposite Sam Rockwell, Adrien Brody and Saoirse Ronan.

Eva Longoria

As the longtime face of L’Oreal worldwide and one of the co-founders of the tequila company Casa Del Sol, actress and producer Eva Longoria will next be seen in the CNN original series Eva Longoria: Searching for Mexico. We spent time with her at the Chopard Loves Cinema dinner at the Hôtel Martinez.
