About Duke-NUS Community Service The Student Government represents the student body and works closely with the School and external organizations to promote a culture of service toward community and society. It organizes various recreational and social activities for the students.
The Student Government and the Colleges actively look into community service projects that the students can participate in and contribute their time and effort.

Trick or Treat All dressed up in different sorts of costumes, Duke-NUS students aim to bring the fun of Halloween to the patients and staff of KK Women's and Children's Hospital. Activities include Bed-to-bed goodies distribution in a modified "trick or treat" fashion, Facepainting, and Balloon sculpting at the play areas.

Camp Simba is a fun-filled camp that will allow children of cancer patients to laugh, play and have fun in a safe environment and make friends with other children who can empathize with their experiences. This would give the children an opportunity to just be kids, and to learn that it's OK to be happy even if a parent is sick. We also wish to create a safe and positive environment for them to express themselves, and we hope that this camp would help to build their self-esteem and help them to cope with life. In addition, by helping to take care of their children for a weekend, we hope to give the parents some time alone, and give the care-taker some respite.
This project is modelled after the extremely successful Camp Kesem in the US, and the need in Singapore for a similar program was brought to our attention three years ago when some of our medical students from Duke-NUS made visits to the homes of the HCA Home Care patients (terminally ill patients being cared for at home and visited regularly by a nurse from HCA) over their Palliative Care Course. After two very successful camps and many positive reviews for Camp Simba 2009 and 2010.

Project KAREn Project Karen, founded in 2010, is an overseas volunteer project for the Karen Hill Tribe villagers of Huay Khao Lip (HKL) village, in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Fronted by a group of eager and passionate Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School students who wanted to make a difference not only in Singapore, this overseas project was conceptualized with two key objectives: 1) Helping the under-privileged 2) To gain experience and to improve our clinical skills by training under volunteer doctors.

Health S creen in gs Putting our passion at work, Duke-NUS students participate actively in the various health screening activities organized either by our very own students or in collaboration with current active groups. The first year students run the screening stations (BP, Temp, Pulse, RR) and history taking, while the seniors take on the responsibilities of seeing patients under close supervision.
