WELCOME TO LONDON PARK SCHOOLS A new type of senior school for central London. A school that combines the care and support of a small school, with the opportunities and facilities of a larger one. A school that offers every pupil an outstanding, rounded education that prepares them for tomorrow’s world. A school where character, collaboration, resilience and entrepreneurship are taught and valued. A school where sustainability informs our decision-making. This is London Park School Clapham.

W E L C O M E F RO M T H E H E A D I am excited to be the founding Head of London Park School Clapham. Having previously worked on opening schools in London and overseas, I look forward to bringing my years of experience to LPS. My vision is to create a warm learning community with an aspirational school culture and align this with the wider vision for LPS, which puts the individual, sustainability, and 21st century skills at the heart of the learning journey. My own academic and professional background has been predominantly in London schools. Having held several middle and senior leadership roles across schools such as St Paul’s School, St Paul’s Girls’ School and Kensington Park School, my experiences have taught me that there is no one-size-fits-all model for education; that students thrive when their individual interests are nourished, and their needs met.

I am passionate about education and am committed to ensuring that LPS Clapham offers something fresh and exciting for London. I have always worked hard to ensure that all members of a school’s community – students, parents, and staff – feel as though their voices are heard and their opinions respected. At LPS Clapham, I will do all that I can to ensure that students enjoy an education that is tailored to their individual circumstances and relevant to their needs in the modern world.

Over the coming months as LPS Clapham develops from architect’s drawings into something tangible, I look forward to meeting with you and to telling you more about my vision for our school and for your child’s education.

Paul Vanni, Head

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT? ONE

London Park School Clapham offers the best of both worlds. The nurturing feel of a small school, with the opportunities, experiences and expertise of a larger one. TWO

As a new school we are not tied to history or tradition, we can innovate and design every element of our school around 21st century pupils and their future needs.

8

THREE

Sustainability will be at the centre of school life, not just an afterthought or a tick box. From the renovation of the Victorian buildings on Clapham Common to teaching sustainability in and out of the classroom, we want our pupils to be well informed about and invested in environmental issues.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

FOUR

London Park School Clapham is the first school to sit under the LPS banner. Each LPS school will be relatively small, with its own Head, its own staff and own identity, but they all share a set of common values. Pupils and staff from the individual schools will join together occasionally for activities and initiatives: small schools benefiting from the scale of a large school. Pupils will also have virtually guaranteed access to the new LPS Sixth Form, planned for Belgravia for 2024.

FIVE

All the schools under the London Park umbrella, including the Sixth Form, will be overseen by a Principal, who from April 2023 will be Suzie Longstaff, currently Head at Putney High School. Her role is to oversee the individual schools, and to coordinate and extend the range of joint activities, expertise and specialisms available to all pupils and staff under the LPS umbrella.

W E L C O M E F RO M T H E P R I N C I P A L The opportunity to design a new school for London doesn’t come along very often, and so it is an opportunity to be wholeheartedly embraced. I am delighted to be the Principal of London Park Schools and to work with the Founding Head of LPS Clapham, Paul Vanni, on the development of a first-class education that suits the needs of the child, redesigning and rethinking education from the inside out. Having worked in education for over twenty-five years and most recently as Headmistress of Putney High School, one of London’s leading schools, I am confident that students joining us will benefit from this fresh and caring approach to their senior school life.

THE LPS COMMUNITY We look forward to London Park School Clapham opening its doors in September 2023 and becoming part of the wider Clapham community. LPS Clapham will also be part of the Dukes Education family of schools. Northwood Senior School, also a part of Dukes Education, opened in Streatham in 2020. The school adopted a dynamic approach to the use of technology in the classroom to support learning and teaching, as well as an innovative style of thematic based learning at Key Stage 3. The school has now outgrown its current location and so Northwood Senior school pupils and staff will move across to create the nucleus of the founding cohort, joined by other pupils from schools all around the Clapham area.

A CURRICULUM TO SUIT EVERY PUPIL’S NEEDS The LPS curriculum is designed to provide an outstanding, rounded education to prepare pupils for tomorrow’s world. It combines pupil wellbeing, academic excellence leading to GCSEs (including high-quality enrichment and SEND), and a broad base of skills at its core. The objective is to add strongly positive academic value to the examination performance of our pupils through cementing the building blocks of literacy and numeracy, providing individual support where needed, then offering flexibility at GCSE. This flexibility creates space and time in the school day to offer opportunities for partnership work, sustainability projects, and independent study; and to develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills. A curriculum with space to develop, not crammed with enforced academic breadth.

YEARS 7 TO 9 (KEY STAGE 3) Our approach to modern senior education is broad-based, thematic, cross-curricular and hands-on. We want to encourage and nurture higher-order thinking skills that will stand pupils in good stead not only in examinations, but in the workplaces of the future. This thematic approach to teaching helps to break down barriers to cross-curricular learning, and to promote deeper understanding and creative thinking. This educational approach will be brought over to London Park School Clapham as we embark on our exciting new journey.

GCSEs Our vision is to provide pupils with a solid grounding in the core academic subjects leading to GCSE, then to encourage pupils to extend and pursue their own interests. The core subjects are English (Literature and Language), Maths and a minimum of two sciences, and most pupils will choose three more subjects to study eight GCSEs. There is flexibility for individual pupils to take more or less, based on their abilities, interests and goals.

SIXTH FORM

London Park School Clapham will be the cornerstone of an exciting new family of schools. In the future there will be a senior school north of the river and a Sixth Form in Belgravia. A London Park School education is an 11-18 journey, starting in our Clapham senior school and leading to A Levels in a specialist Sixth Form environment, one which will provide scope for intellectual growth and the development of personal agency. Our Sixth Form will have a collegiate feel to it and, as a result, will offer students an excellent preparation for the rigours and independence of university life.

PUPIL WELLBEING

Our pupils’ wellbeing informs everything we do. One of the benefits of being a smaller school is that we know and understand them very well. By nurturing and supporting our pupils, we encourage them to uncover and pursue their passions both in and out of the classroom, and to develop their awareness of the world around them.

19

London Park Schools

PREPARING PUPILS FOR T O M O R RO W ’ S W O R L D The Dukes Young Leadership Programme will be an integral part of each pupil’s curriculum, developing confidence, collaboration and transferable skills for the future. Simultaneously, the wider LPS umbrella will provide a co-curricular programme of broad and varied opportunities for pupils to be busy and involved, to be curious and to develop new interests, while building firm friendships through an ethos of kindness, collaboration and adventure. LPS will also provide the resources, expertise and opportunities to shape the digital innovators of the future through the creative application of digital technology, and a focus on design thinking and social entrepreneurship.

BEYOND OUR FOUR WALLS

Overlooking one of the most peaceful green spaces and close to the world-class galleries, museums, concert halls, exhibitions and other cultural venues of our capital, we make the most of our surroundings on a daily basis – viewing them as a natural extension of the classroom. But it isn’t just London we are utilising to expand our pupils’ horizons, we have partnered with a company that specialises in immersive programmes such as practical courses in marine conservation in the Mediterranean sea on a tall ship.

OUR CLAPHAM HOME LPS Clapham will be located in two beautiful Victorian mansion buildings, minutes from Clapham South tube station and opposite the Common. The buildings are Grade II listed, with beautiful original features throughout. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we are undertaking a sensitive and informed restoration of these delightful buildings to ensure their future for the rest of this century, rather than developing new buildings on a green field site.

24

London Park School

We are working towards obtaining independent certification of the sustainability credentials of the site by 2025. We see ourselves as custodians of these historic buildings; we aim to curate the space available to us and, rather than build something new, we shall breathe fresh life into something already existing. These renovations will ensure our school is perfectly suitable for senior age pupils and include facilities such as new laboratories for science and Design Technology, spaces for the performing arts, a collaborative working space and outstanding dining facilities.

G R E E N A L L A RO U N D LPS Clapham is directly opposite the 220 acres of Clapham Common. Every day pupils can spend breaks enjoying the leafy green surroundings. We also use these green spaces as an extension of the classroom, taking learning outdoors whenever we can. We aim to be a school at the heart of the community with meaningful partnerships in the local area which will help us ensure that our students have a deep and practical understanding of what sustainability means in the 21st century and of how they can make a difference in the world. We will have access to the astro-turf sports facility at St Francis Xavier College, located immediately behind our campus, and to the football, cricket and tennis facilities immediately opposite us on Clapham Common. Clapham is our campus, our sports ground, our home.
