WHAT ALL KIDS NEED: A Community Conversation

Join Katy Smith—Parent Educator, Early Childhood Advocate, and the 2011 Minnesota Teacher of the Year—in a lively and hopeful conversation about childhood and what kids need from it. Important life skills are hard-wired in children’s first years of life, and our culture is not wholly supportive of children as they develop those life skills. This conversation will empower parents and caregivers to best support their children’s crucial years of development. Attend in-person at Lake Superior College or tune in over Zoom. A recording will be available for two weeks after the event and will be sent to all registrants. Continuing education certificates will be available for those who attend in-person, virtually, or watch the recording. Registration is only necessary for virtual attendance or to access the recording afterwards.

Friends of the Duluth Public Library donate

$10,000 for library programming and events

In February, the Friends of the Duluth Public Library donated $10,000 to DPL for the purpose of funding library events and programming. Known simply as “the Friends” around the library, this committed group of volunteers spends thousands of hours sorting and organizing books in the library garage in order to host three highly successful book sales throughout the year. In 2022, 97 volunteers collectively gave 2,260 hours of their time for fundraising efforts. Because of the hard work of the Friends, the library is able to offer robust programming to patrons of all ages. Thank you to the Friends not just for the important funding they provide, but for the fantastic book sales they put on for the whole community!
