Early Years at Riviera and Legend Garden: Parents are requested to drop students off after 8:15 am. Children in the Early Years must be accompanied to and from school by an authorised adult. Please do not arrive before the time indicated, as teaching staff will be preparing for the day ahead or may be in early meetings and unavailable to supervise the students. Detailed information, including maps of drop off zones and specific procedures for Legend Garden Early Years children, will be sent to parents in August in the week before the start of school. For the first few days of school, until everyone is accustomed to procedures, traffic may be congested and we ask for your patience. Please remind your drivers to be patient and obey the directions of the security guards at the campuses at all times. This is essential for everyone’s safety.
3. The First Day of Term – Wednesday 21st August 2013 The first day of the new school year is Wednesday 21st August 2013. EARLY YEARS Toddler Classes In mid-August, parents of children in the Toddler Classes will receive an invitation to visit the school on Wednesday, 21st August, to meet their children’s Class Teacher and Key Person. During this meeting they Page 7
will have the opportunity to talk about their children and complete a settling in plan that will help their children transition at their own pace. To get the most out of this meeting, it is best if two adults that the child knows and trusts attend, one to meet with the Lead Teacher and the other to remain with the child engaging in activities in the classroom. Your Child’s Key Person: Each child in the Toddler Class has a key person, who will provide consistent care in the following ways: •
greet and say farewell to each key child and the main care givers when possible
•
lead settling in routines to ensure smooth transitions
•
lead all care giving routines where possible
•
communicate with main care givers every day, face-to-face or in home school link books
•
ensure that the lead teacher and other colleagues have essential information about key children in their absence
•
record any information as agreed between the parent and the lead teacher
•
ensure a nurturing, caring, safe relationship with an adult to create the environment young children need in order to learn
•
provide environments that are engaging and responsive without being too stimulating
The key person is: •
the person to whom the child is attached and provides a secure base, a place of safety, warmth and comfort
•
the person who responds to an anxious child to ensure the formation of appropriate attachments
Nursery and Reception Classes Wednesday, 21st August, will be an orientation morning during which parents will stay with their children and have the opportunity to meet the class teacher and visit the classroom and campus. 13. Printing and Photocopying Students in the Senior School will be issued with a photocopying credit of RMB 200 on their Smart Cards. They will be charged 0.3 RMB for black & white copies and RMB 3 for colour copies. If the student uses all the credit on the Smart Card, credit in lots of RMB 100 may be purchased from the copy centre. Usage statistics indicate that many students will not need to purchase any further credit.
14. September Field Trips for Senior School Students All students in Years 7 to 11 will travel with their year group on a 3 or 4 night trip to different parts of China between Monday 23rd and Friday 27th September 2013. Year 11 will travel a day earlier. Year 7 will return a day earlier and conduct post-trip activities in school on Friday 27th. These trips serve as wonderful opportunities for team bonding at the start of the academic year and, over the course of time, as a broad introduction to Chinese culture. They are viewed as an integral part of our curriculum so all students must participate. On the second day of term, parents should supply: •
details of health insurance coverage
•
a signed consent form
•
photocopy of their child’s passport identification page
A parent information evening focused on the trips will take place on the evening of Tuesday 10th September, between 18:00 – 19:00 in the Edward Alleyn Theatre.
