Lessons in Love

Lessons in Love Written by Dulwich College Beijing students: Yui Min Gan, Capucine Brunet and Eva Lee

Cupid is a knavish lad, thus to make poor females mad. Lessons in Love sees dramatic, literary and mythological traditions collide. Cupid, well-versed in the language of lurve, laments his flailing powers of match-making, his daggers of desire no longer piercing their targets as they once did. Fortunately for us the Ancient Greeks are on hand to inject some passion back into history's dating expert, to rekindle the romantic powers of the bow-wielding winged youth. Combined with the dramatic traditions of Commedia Dell Arte and Brecht's Epic Theatre, Lessons in Love takes us on a journey through the history of modern theatre, told through the frustrations of one knavish lad... Thank you for joining us in celebrating the opening of our new classrooms, ice skating rink and the six–hundred seat Wodehouse Theatre. We warmly invite you to attend the community events hosted at Dulwich College Beijing throughout the year.

Beijing Youth Orchestra The Beijing Youth Orchestra comprises students and staff members from Dulwich College Beijing as well as students from other international schools and conservatories in Beijing. They perform regularly together, most recently in the Gala Concert for the Diversity Project II in the Wodehouse Theatre. The BYO is led by a group of music teachers dedicated to moving it along its unpredictable, yet inspiring road. This venture is unique in the region, offering all participants growth and development not just as musicians but also as well-rounded, worldly people who are an integral part of the international community. Members of tonight’s orchestra have performed in The Forbidden City Concert Hall, the Shanghai Oriental Arts Centre, Busan Cultural Centre Korea and the Wangfujing Cathedral Beijing. They have developed a strong musical relationship with the International Schools Choral Music Society (www.ISCMS.net), and performed under the baton of maestros Karl Jenkins, Robert Hasty and Stephen Alltop. Tonight the honour passes to Shane O’Shea, Director of Music for Dulwich College International.
