THURSDAY, OCTOBER 7TH at 11AM EST DuMouchelles’ October 7th sale includes fine pieces from the notable estates of Dr. Ali Esfahani & Dr. John Willard Spellman, PhD, and others from Metro Detroit and the continental United States. Dr. Spellman retired as Head of the Department of Asian Studies, University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He is considered one of the world’s foremost scholars on Asian Studies and a cultural expert on the political history of India. In 2013, Dr. Spellman was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for his human rights, civil liberties, and volunteer work. His collection of important Indian pieces (lots 54-70) most notably include a fabulous 18th century Kerala oil lamp (lot 54) and wood carving of Hindu goddess Kali (lot 61). The sale features a collection of working antique music boxes (lots 3-7), private estate rugs from Dr. Ali Esfahani (lots 19-26), Russian icons (lots 124-130, 425-431), antique firearms (lots 322-331), sterling silver (lots 44-50, 297-321), African tribal pieces (lots 72-95), fine art paintings and prints (lots 131-169), and much more.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8TH at 11AM EST DuMouchelles’ October 8th sale includes fine pieces from the notable estates of Dr. Ali Esfahani, Dr. James Letson, and others from Metro Detroit and the continental United States. Dr. Esfahani was born in Tabriz, Iran in 1932 and graduated from the Tehran University Medical School in 1955. When moving to the United States, Dr. Esfahani took with him an extensive collection of fine handwoven rugs, many of which have been featured in museum exhibitions. Many of the rugs are featured in today’s sale (lots 1117-1158). The sale also includes many wonderful prints from American artists, such as Martin Lewis (lot 1000) and Rockwell Kent (lot 2). Other notable pieces from this month include paintings from Lajos Kassak (lots 1009-1010), Douglas Arthur Teed (lot 1015), a newly uncovered work from Franke Earle Schoonover (lot 1002), Alexander Calder (lot 1012), and Jean Dubuffet (lots 1023-1024). Other fresh-to-market pieces include several monumental bronze garden sculptures (lots 1041-1047), plaques from the historic Detroit Fisher Building (lots 1055-1056), estate jewelry (lots 1096-1107), an eccentric Meerschaum pipe (lot 1108), porcelain from Royal Dux (lots 1190-1193), a set of Asian ceramics (lots 1216-1238), Peter Max (lots 1328-1329), and much more.

CONDITIONS OF SALE The following Conditions of Sale are DuMouchelles’ and the Consignor’s agreement with the Buyer relative to the property listed in the auction catalog. The Conditions of Sale, the glossary, and all other contents of the catalog are subject to amendment by DuMouchelles by the posting of notices or by oral announcements made during the sale. All property is offered by DuMouchelles as agent for the Consignor unless the catalog indicates otherwise. By participating in any sale the Consignor, Bidder and Buyer agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

On the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer, title to the offered lot will pass from Consignor to the highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer, subject to all the Conditions of Sale set forth herein, and such bidder (a) assumes full risk and responsibility therefore (b) if requested will sign a confirmation of purchase and (c) will pay the purchase price in full or such part as DuMouchelles may require for all lots purchased. 13. Payment. The buyers are expected to make payment for purchases immediately after the auction for the entire amount due (including hammer price, buyer’s premium and applicable taxes and other charges including handling charges and storage costs). Payment in U.S. Dollars can be made by check, cash, wire transfer, or Visa, MasterCard, and Discover credit, charge or debit card, subject to certain limitations. PayPal may be used for purchases made via LiveAuctioneers.com International payments can be made by wire transfer or if purchase is made via LiveAuctioneers.com, then PayPal should be used. The buyer grants DuMouchelles a security interest in the property and DuMouchelles may retain as collateral security for the buyer’s obligations to DuMouchelles, any property or monies held or received by DuMouchelles for the account of the buyer. Payment will not be deemed to have been made in full until DuMouchelles has collected funds represented by checks, or, in the case of bank or cashier’s checks, until DuMouchelles has confirmed their authenticity. Buyer agrees that a 6% per month late charge will be imposed on the total purchase price if payment is not made in accordance with all of the conditions set forth herein and agrees to pay any returned check charges that may be incurred. 14. Tax. Unless exempted by law from the payment thereof, the buyer will be required to pay Michigan state retail sales taxes at a rate of 6%, or any taxes that are applicable at this date, including any federal luxury or other tax. Unless exemption from such taxes is established to the satisfaction of DuMouchelles, any buyer claiming an exemption will be required to pay the tax to DuMouchelles and seek a refund from the state. Deliveries outside the State of Michigan may be subject to the compensating use tax of another state and, where a duty of collection is imposed upon them by law, DuMouchelles will require payment of such taxes. 15. Removal of Property. The buyer at buyer’s expense must remove all property from DuMouchelles not later that 10 business
