SEAN O’Mahonys capped off a glorious 2014 by seeing off Meath intermediate champions Ballinglough to win their first ever Leinster Intermediate title. In doing so the Point Road side became only the third Louth club to do so. There have been many nights of celebrations down the Point Road this year as this fantastic O’Mahony’s team have enjoyed a marvellous run in Louth and now Leinster. And there could be more joy to come for the Sean’s as they take on Roscommon and Connacht Intermediate champions St Croans in the All Ireland Intermediate Club Semi-Finals.

Residents waiting over eight years for house improvements By Paul Byrne
Residents in “The Crescent II” Muirhevnamor have claimed that they were told in 2006 by council officials that their houses were not fit to be lived in yet they are still in the same dwellings eight years later. One of the residents who didn’t wish to be named claimed the houses are not fit to be lived in and are freezing cold due to no cavity or insulation being inserted into any of the walls. “We were told back in 2006 in a letter from Louth County Council that these houses were not fit for habitation and that there were plans to knock them down and move us elsewhere. Eight years later we are still here and the houses certainly haven’t im-
proved in that time so how is it that the council deem them fit to be lived in now?”, asked the resident. “There are 27 houses in the crescent and they are all very cold houses. There is an 85-year-old woman living close to me and I really don’t know how she copes with the cold. We were told back in 2006 by council officials that there was going to be a regeneration scheme in Muirhevnamor and that our houses would either be brought up to the required standards or else they would be demolished and we would be put into new dwellings. Nothing has happened since and to be honest I can’t see anything happening anytime soon either”, he added. Fiona Downes from Louth County Council acknowledged that talks did take place with residents in ‘The Crescent’ in 2006 with regards to improving local authority housing but nothing was ever agreed. “As part of Regeneration, discussions were held with local residents and they were advised that the local authority housing stock in Muirhevnamor would receive improvement works to them, which may have included external works as well as some internal works. “For the housing stock in Crescent II this may have meant new kitchen units and revised heating systems, but nothing was ever agreed as to what was to be done. It was also discussed at some of the meetings the possibility of some of the houses being demolished, but this was
into the Muirhevnamor area from Long Avenue area but this was only mentioned as part of a possible plan for this section of Muirhevnamor”, she added. According to Fiona the proposed regeneration for the Muirhevnamor area was halted due to recommendation from the Department of the Environment to prioritise the Regeneration of the Cox’s Demesne area. She also noted that the 27 houses in the ‘Crescent II’ were completed to the standard at the time of construction, and have had improvement works carried out.

A woman who was described as being under the influence of her husband when she signed for a mobile phone using somebody else’s name was spared a conviction after being given a chance by Judge Flann Brennan at Dundalk District Court. Rume Omoh of 39 Langfield, Dublin Road, Dundalk, pleaded guilty to a charge of forgery arising from the incident on May 7, 2014, but had the case dismissed under the Probation Act.
The court heard that a mobile phone had been ordered through a website and using the account details of a charity in Donegal. When delivered to 39 Lanfield, the defendant signed for it using the name, S Morgan. Gardai attended and after Ms Omoh was arrested she said she had signed for it after being asked to do so by her husband. The phone was recovered. Solicitor, Peter Lavery, stated that the phone was for some-
one else and she wasn’t going to benefit from the action but she had been told to sign for it by her husband. She realises she shouldn’t have done it and apologised. He said the mother of two had acted foolishly and wouldn’t do it again. In finding the facts proven and dismissing the case Judge Brennan warned the defendant not to do anything like it again.

School hosts Intercultural Day By Paul Byrne
Thursday morning seen St Francis N.S in Blackrock embrace different cultures from all around the world as pupils, parents and staff took part in the school’s annual Intercultural Day in the new hall. An amazing 27 different countries are represented in the school with children and parents hailing from countries such as Mexico, Tonga, Brazil, Poland, Latvia, Ukraine and England to mention just a few. According to Mary Scanlon, from St Francis NS, the aim of the event is to promote understanding and a celebration of cultural diversity, to encourage intercultural dialogue in school, and to embed intercultural thinking in

planning, teaching and learning. “We want to work towards a more inclusive school and promote inter-culturism both here and in the wider community. As you can see we have organised a concert for today with students from various countries providing their national song or dance and we
also have a food stand at the back of the hall made up of various national dishes from all the different countries represented in the school”, explained Mary. Those words were echoed by school principal Oreena Lawless who praised the pupils and parents association for all the hard work they
put into making intercultural day a success. “The children are proudly representing their countries and showing off their heritage and culture to the rest of the students, teachers and parents. It’s always a lovely celebration and I really have to thank the parents association for the trojan work they have put in recently to get everything ready for today”, noted Ms Lawless. Visitors to the intercultural day were greeted into the hall by Tongan born William Lauaki who entertained the audience with a traditional Tongan song. Various acts took part in the concert including the Polish children along with poetry, song and dance from around the world.

A man who borrowed his friend’s trousers came in for a surprise when he discovered a small amount of cocaine while being searched by Gardai. Thomas Muckian of 7 Cluain Aoibhinn, Dundalk, was warned not to have anything to do with drugs by Judge Flannn Brennan who gave the defendant a chance by finding the facts proven and dismissing the case. Dundalk District Court heard that on June 3, 2013, Mr Muckian was arrested in relation to a separate matter and taken to Dundalk Garda Station. When he emptied his pockets a small quantity of cocaine was found. Solicitor, Paula Tiernan, stated that her client had been at a party in a friend’s house the previous day and
stayed over. He had made arrangements to meet Gardai and borrowed a pair of bottoms to wear. When the drugs were found he was taken by surprise, and while he accepts they were in his possession, they weren’t his. Ms Tiernan continued to say that her client hopes to continue his studies and asked the judge to deal with the case leniently as a conviction would hinder employment prospects. In giving the defendant the benefit of the Probation Act, Judge Brennan warned him to stay clear of drugs. “You should have nothing to do with drugs. They ruin people’s lives so avoid them like the plague”, he stated.

Quay is rocking for mighty Seans From page 1 as the season has progressed we have got stronger and more confident with each passing game”, declared Brendan. “The celebrations have been fantastic all weekend and we’re all probably feeling a little bit worse for wear at the minute but pretty soon it will be time to focus on the next match and get ourselves ready for an All-Ireland SemiFinal. We are one game away from playing in Croke Park and we are all determined to go all the way now”, he added. Brendan praised his players for their neversay-die attitude which has seen them fight back from seemingly impossible positions on numerous occasions this year. “Nothing phases this team”, noted Brendan. We went down to 14 men on Sunday and everybody increased their work-rate and we ended up dominating

When you’ve got that in your team anything is possible and now it’s my job to ensure the players get well rested whilst also making sure they remain focused and know that we still have a job to do in January. “It’s a bit of a balancing act and it’s been a long year for everybody but there’s no way we would change anything
from what’s been a brilliant year”, concluded Brendan. The men from the Quay once again showed tremendous resolve as they overcame the setback of losing Conor Crawley early in the second half to run out deserved victors. But that doesn’t always mean spending a fortune –particularly a fortune you don’t have. Be open with your family – even Santa has been hit by the recession! Talk to your friends and extended family – do you need to exchange gifts at all? Or would you rather spend time together? Almost no-one has been left untouched by this recession – everyone has less money this year than last year; be the one to bring up the subject in your circle – suggest that this year, 2014, is the year that the spirit of Christmas comes back to your community. Take the time to be with those you love – and those you love will not want you to worry, and to struggle for six months to pay for the gifts they didn’t need. The 12 steps of Christmas 1. Make a list of what you need to buy for Christmas. Divide it into gifts, food, clothes and socialising. Use our Christmas planner to help. 2. Prioritise – if you had a limited amount of money, what could you cut from that list? Work your way through, numbering items in order of importance. 3. Try to estimate how much money you expect to spend on each of these items. What does it add up to ? 4. Is it a very large figure? If the number makes your eyes bulge, look at each individual item again. How can you reduce the cost?
5. What does it add up to now? Is that a better figure? 6. Keep going with this until you get to a number you can live with – it is important to be honest with yourself. 7. This is the amount of money you have decided you NEED for Christmas. 8. If you have been able to put aside a few euro over the year to meet the cost of Christmas, well done. Will it be enough to cover the costs you planned for? 9. If you have not been able to put aside any money, or if what you have saved is not enough, then you have a choice; either you cut the amount you intend to spend again, until your savings can cover it, or you may decide to borrow. 10. Try not to build your plans on the basis of a bonus or overtime payment, or any other payment that you are not absolutely certain you will get – only count the money you can rely on getting. 11. Smart Shopping • Try to get the best value you can when shopping for gifts – look for offers in the shops, three-for-two deals and so on, but remember the value is only there if you actually need the three items. • Stick to cash – you will spend less than using debit and credit cards. • Keep the receipts in case something needs to be exchanged. • Work from a list to avoid unplanned, impulse shopping. • Leave the children at home. • Remember the shops only close for one or two days, so there is no need to stock up on food.
MABS operates a National Helpline, which is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm on 0761 07 2000.
12. Borrowing If you really believe borrowing is your only option, then remember these points: • Only borrow what you truly need and not one cent more • Try to make sure you can pay back this loan before the middle of next year, if at all possible, otherwise it makes it difficult for save for next Christmas. • Find out what the weekly or monthly repayments are going to be and see how this will affect your budget next year – can you afford that amount, and still pay your regular bills and expenses? • When looking for a loan, try to get the best value you can. Generally, loans available from a money lender will cost you much more than a loan from your Credit Union or bank. Using a credit card is also a very expensive way of borrowing money. • Remember to read the terms and conditions of any credit application, make sure you understand what you are getting into. Get advice before you sign. • Contact MABS before borrowing to see what options are available to you. • Before you borrow, look again at your list – is it worth it? Are you sure this is what you and your family need? What is MABS? The Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS) is a free, independent, confidential and nonjudgmental service providing ono to one advice to people who are having diffuiculties managing their money or are in debt.

intensity and visible spectrum very close to that of sunlight. The beneficial effect of light is linked to its physiological action particularly its influence on secretion of melatonin, the “sleep hormone,” and serotonin, a neurotransmitter which regulates mood balance.
How Luminette works Luminette uses a safe light spectrum of blue enriched bright light emitted from 8 light emitting diodes (LED), proven to be the most effective wavelength in light therapy which is sent to a holographic visor which focuses the light toward the pupil, regardless of the direction of view and the position of the head, to the lower part of the retina, a particularly rich area in neuronal receptors involved in the therapeutic action of light which is directed to the retina from top to bottom much the same as natural sunlight. Luminette is a medically certified device and uses low light intensity (2000lux) so it’s completely safe causing no harm or damage to the eyes for the wearer.
Luminette is lightweight and is so easy to use, a session takes just 2025mins per day and can be done whilst still carrying out your everyday tasks including making breakfast for the kids, cooking, reading so it doesn’t take up extra time from your day. Revenue investigate events in local office By Tamara O’Connell
THE Revenue office in Dundalk is the subject of two investigations after it was revealed that staff had allegedly been given advance access to test questions for an internal promotion. An investigation undertaken by Revenue into the allegations concluded that unauthorised
access to test questions did occur in one office. Dundalk was named as the location of the security breach in an audit by the Commission for Public Service Appointments (CPSA). A number of complaints were filed by staff and Union officials about the process after the test took place on May 20.
The questions for the psychometric test involved verbal and numerical reasoning and were accessible by a password-protected online test site. Following concerns about an unusually high level of activity on the system which required authorised access, Revenue introduced an additional range of psy-
chometric tests for all of those who passed the initial test. According to Revenue, the issue is being addressed under the civil service disciplinary code. Revenue has also committed to reviewing its procedures and will introduce new security measures to prevent a similar situation from reoccurring.

Clamping in The Demesne
Christmas shoppers have been warned to remind themselves of parking restrictions after clampers were out in force last weekend at the Demesne Shopping Centre with many vehicles falling foul of the private clamping company which were brought into the area last year to free up car parking spaces for customers. The private clamping company (NCPS) were brought to the Demesne last September by disgruntled business owners in the area who were sick seeing cars park in the Demesne for hours on end leaving no space for genuine customers. A two hour parking limit was introduced whilst a fee of €120 was the price to pay for anybody who fell foul of the new regulations. It seems that there are still some people unaware of these new parking regulations as up to five cars were clamped last Sunday in the Demesne by private clamping company NCPS. It is thought that many people are unaware that the parking restrictions in the Demesne apply over the weekend but as per the sign put up by NCPS the clamping regulations apply 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
Parking charges Louth County Council has cut pay parking rates in half in Dundalk over the Christmas season. Pay parking rates in Dundalk have been halved from €1 to 50c per hour on all streets and in Louth County

novena NOVENA TO THE SACRED HEART
Dear Heart of Jesus, in the past I asked you for many favours. This time I ask you for this special favour (mention it). Take it, dear Heart of Jesus and place it within your own broken heart where your Father sees it. Then in his merciful eyes it will become your favour, not mine. Amen. Say this prayer for 3 days. Promise publication and favours will be granted. (never MIRACULOUS INVOCATION TO ST. THERESE known to fail). R W O glorious Saint Therese, whom almighty God has raised up to aid and counsel mankind, I implore your Miraculous Intercession. So powerful are you in obtaining every need of body and soul our Holy Mother Church proclaims you a “Prodigy of Miracles...the Greatest Saint of Modern times.” Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition (mention here) and to carry out your promises of spending Heaven doing good upon earth...of letting fall from Heaven a Shower of Roses. Henceforth, dear Little Flower, I will full fill your plea” to be made known everywhere” and I will never cease to lead others to Jesus through you. Amen Say for 9 days and you will receive a flower during or after 9 days as an indication that your request will be granted. E. F.

Blackstone Motors scoop another award
Donal Waters and Noel Stewart, Directors of Blackstone Motors.
Blackstone Motors scooped another award recently when they won the Drogheda Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award for Best Customer Service. This award follows on from Blackstone Motors winning the 2014 National Renault & Dacia After-Sales Dealer of the Year in October. “We are absolutely delighted in winning the Best Customer
Service Award from the Drogheda Chamber of Commerce” commented Donal Waters. “We pride ourselves on giving our customers a level of service that makes us stand out from the rest so it’s a great feeling to have an independent body confirm the high standards we set”. The standard of competition was very high this year with
each finalist tested by a mystery shopper and then the owners of the business interviewed by a panel of three business experts. Noel Stewart, Managing Director said: “This award is great for all the staff and for our customers as well. The one thing we have noticed since winning the first award is how proud our customers are to be associated with us. It’s a nice compliment”
