Gardai investigating the disappearance of schoolgirl Ciara Breen 17 years ago have called on those with information to ‘do the right thing’ and tell Gardaí what they know. Ciara went missing in February 1997 from her Bachelor’s Walk home which she shared with her mother Bernadette. It is thought she sneaked out of her bedroom window to meet up with someone while her mother slept but tragically she never made it back home. Her mother Bernadette believes her only child was killed. Despite numerous appeals and interviews with 128 people information Ciara has never been found. However

be key in helping to solve this crime. He is hopeful that, with the passage of time friends of Ciara may have developed suspicions and may be struggling with their consciences. “We are appealing to any of Ciara’s friends who were young and maybe a bit impres-
sionable or scared at the time to come forward and do the right thing. These girls are older now and many have children of their own so they will know the heartache Ciara’s mother must be feeling having lost her daughter”, appealed the detective inspector. “They’ve had many years to reflect on what
happened and we would hope they will be able to divulge any information they might have either by calling in to us at the Garda station or ringing us on 042 9335577. They can also call us on a confidential line at 1800666111 or pass any info on to a third party such as a priest or local newspaper. We can ensure that their confidentiality will be respected”, he added. Gardaí have conducted 191 lines of enquiry to date interviewing 128 people and carrying out a number of searches around Dundalk. A local man was questioned about her disappearance but never charged.
Ciara’s disappearance is not connected to any other case with all the answers in this case still in Dundalk. The night she sneaked out of the house she didn’t take any money or clothes so Gardaí are sure that she was meeting somebody and are very keen to find out more about this person. It’s more appropriate to do the right thing than the wrong thing”, urged Detective Inspector M a r r y. “ B e r n a d e t t e Breen deserves closure. Garry all set for Amputee World Cup From page 1 he made his debut for the Irish team. Since then the Irish side has improved immeasurably with those in charge targeting this year’s World Cup as a competition they would not just compete in but challenge for also.According to Garry he has never been fitter than he is now and although training has been tough he feels he and his teammates are now ready to give a good account of themselves in Mexico. “Since January of this year we’ve really ramped up our training schedules and we have had special training camps at the University of Limerick using their state-of-the-

art facilities. We have professional high performance coach Alan Heary with us who has designed a tailor-made training programme for all squad members”, explains Garry. “We have thorough monthly fitness tests and
you can really see the difference in speed, agility, stamina and strength over the past ten months. It’s a dream come true for me and it will be a huge honour to represent my country at the World Cup”, added Garry. Amputee Football was founded in the 1970s in America and today has established teams in over 32 countries. The rules of the game follow those of standard football but with a few notable exceptions. Outfield players must have an amputation at or above the ankle and use crutches. Goalkeepers must be amputated at or above the wrist. The use of any prosthesis is prohibited.
With all the training nearly completed Garry is raring to go and is hoping that Ireland can compete rather than just make up the numbers. “There are a lot of very strong teams in Mexico including current World Champions Uzbekistan but we have trained very hard and we have nothing to fear from anyone. It’s been a long year of training and we’re all just itching to get on the pitch now and test ourselves against the best. It will be a proud moment for me and my family and it will be an honour to represent Ireland on an international stage”, concluded Garry.

Gary O’Hanlon comes fifth in World Ultra Marathon By Paul Byrne
For most of the athletes crossing the finish line in last week’s Dublin City Marathon, rest and relaxation was probably top of their agenda for the following week or two following the gruelling 26 mile challenge. For Gary O’Hanlon however thoughts immediately focused on the World 50k Ultramarathon in Doha which took place just four days later. Gary who hails from Kilkerley is one of the most respected athletes in the country having battled back from a serious road traffic accident whilst out training in 1992. At the time Gary was one of the most promising athletes in Ireland and had been widely tipped to have a successful career on the track. In recent years Gary has once again put on his spikes and remarkably has worked his way back to become one of the most prolific marathon and long distance runners in the country. Now 40, Gary has become a successful running coach and is enjoying the sport more than ever. He claims to be in the best form of his

life and that is backed up by a very impressive six marathon victories in 2013 and he has continued to make hay while the sun shines in 2014 running an amazing three marathons in just 15 days earlier in the season. Last week’s Dublin marathon had been a long-term target for Gary as he bid to finish in the top 10 and hopefully beat his personal best of 2:22:49. However, things unfortunately didn’t go quite as planned as the Kilkerley native explains. “Unfortunately I ran into difficulty in Dublin about the 16 mile mark and I suffered severe hamstring cramping which affected me pretty badly. I had been running well up until
that point and was in the top ten but the cramping kind of ruined my race and I went backwards after that eventually finishing 14th in 2:26. Obviously I was disappointed not to get top 10 but it was just one of those days where nothing went right and I suppose given I went into the race ranked 18th finishing 14th wasn’t too bad”, noted Gary. Immediately after the race Gary spent 40 minutes in A +E hooked up on a drip as he slowly recovered from his exertions. Instead of sitting around feeling sorry for himself Gary picked himself up, got on the plane to Dubai and prepared himself for the World 50k Ultra Marathon which was taking place just four days
later in Doha.As well as fighting fatigue from the Dublin City marathon Gary had to cope with sweltering temperatures which were as high as 40 degrees centigrade. On Friday morning Gary set off on his 50k journey eventually finishing a magnificent 5th place in what he describes as the toughest race of his life. “The pain I suffered during the race in Doha I hope to never experience again as long as I live”, recalled Gary. “From mile one it was like mile 20 in the Dublin marathon .My tactic was to go with the Kenya, English and Zimbabwe favourites and see who cracked first. Thankfully I managed to block out the pain and finish the race in fifth place which I was pretty pleased about”, added a relieved Gary.

Louth based tidal technology group, OpenHydro, has announced the launch of an ambitious tidal energy project. The company, which specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of marine turbines generating renewable energy from tidal streams, announced the Cape Sharp Tidal project at the fifth International
Conference on Ocean Energy (ICOE), in Nova Scotia. The objective of the Cape Sharp Tidal project is to deploy a fully grid connected 4MW tidal array in the Bay of Fundy in 2015. gy to over 1,000 customers in Nova Scotia. Cape Sharp Tidal employs a local team of ten people based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. OpenHydro’s vision is to deploy marine turbine arrays under the surface of the oceans to produce energy silently, invisibly and with no impact on the environment.

Man is allowed to Why Haven’t People With keep his clean record
Foot and Ankle Pain Been Told These Facts?
A man who came to Garda attention while on a night out pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of drugs when he appeared at Dundalk District Court. Oisin Kearns of Commons Road, Dromiskin, was allowed to keep his clean record after Judge Flann Brennan found the facts proven and dismissed the case, but warned him not to do anything like that again. The court hears that on September 22 last year, Gardai were responding to an incident at Carrickarnon when they observed the defendant, who was intoxicated, acting in an aggres-
sive manner. He was taken to Dundalk Garda Station where Gardai found a small bag of cannabis herb during a search. Solicitor, Frank McDonnell, stated that his 23-year-old client went for a spin with friends which attracted Garda attention. On the night, Mr Kearns had wanted to get home but was unable to do so as he had been given a lift. He added that the defendant, who lives at home and has a full time job, has no involvement with those friends and hasn’t come to Garda attention since the incident.

Dundalk rugby juveniles in action It was another busy weekend for Dundalk Rugby Club with a number of teams involved. The U-12s travelled to Boyne where they put in a good display with tries being scored by Lee O’Carroll, Jack Mulroy and Elijah Faapito. Dundalk Sharks Under 11s met Balbriggan at the Mill Road, with the Black Sharks taking on Balbriggan B as they scored superb tries from Conal O’Callaghan, Kieran McArdle, Robert Malone, Eoghan Staunton, and Fionn Duffy, who was back to his imperious best after a quiet outing the previous week. Solid performances up front came from Laurence Jones, Ronan McDonnell, Aron McEvoy, Cillian Halpenny, Conal O’Callaghan, and Brian McCahill added to a great performance all round. The second game for the Black Sharks against
Conway, Jessica Malone, Neasa Boyle, Eva Toal, Katie McGee, Zoe Valentine, Aoife Craven and Shona Kelly kept Dundalk in the game. At the other end, Dundalk attacked well and crossed the line through Zoe Valentine, Deborah Malone, Meadhbh O’Callaghan, Sadhbh McDonnell and Niamh Belton. The U-12 team
Temi Fagbamilla also impressed. The U-10s continued the good form as they quickly got to grips with the game with Orlaith McGeough running in her first try for Dundalk while there were also scores from Ruth McGee, Bronagh Hughes and the wonderful, talented Natascha Swan.

Family’s terrifying ordeal
Gardaí in Dundalk are appealing for witnesses after a family in Belfry Garden was terrorised by an armed gang. The incident occurred on Sunday evening at the home of the owners of Chinese restaurant. At around 7.30 on Sunday evening armed robbers made their way into the home and proceeded to lock three children into a cupboard before threatening the woman who was the only adult in the house at the time. The three children aged 10, 12 and 16 included one of the neighbours’ children. After threatening the home owner with a hammer the men forced her to hand over money believed to be in the region of €3000.Gardaí confirmed nobody was injured during the terrifying ordeal and no arrests have been made. They carried out house-to-house enquiries yesterday and are viewing CCTV footage from neighbouring houses in the estate. It is thought that the men escaped in a white Citroen Berlingo van.

n the current economic climate, good planning is more essential than ever and when it comes to Christmas shopping there are few better ways to organise the budget than through a Christmas Club. This traditional savings scheme has remained popular over the years and is an ideal way to take the pressure off when it comes to December. Joining a Christmas Club is certainly one way to budget for the added expense of gifts, food and other necessities over the holidays. This budgeting tool has dbeen provided by banks and credit : unions for decades, as well as many retailers who are e -offering their own eChristmas Clubs. . “Different people put a wide range of money away every week but it all helps in the end. It really is a matter of what you can afford but there is no doubt that come December you will see the great benefit of planning ahead.” The Christmas club is a savings programme that was first offered by various banks during the Great Depression in America. This year’s Dundalk Festival of Light and Culture will feature a special attraction for children which will allow them send their letters direct to Santa with a guarantee that the man himself will respond to each letter. Children can send their letters free of charge via North Pole Mail from a special Santa Post Box to be located by the Dundalk BIDS office at the Market Square, as part of the festival on Friday and Saturday, November 28 and 29. It has been confirmed that Santa will reply to each letter accompanied by a contact
e-mail address. Speaking on the coup for the Dundalk Festival of Light & Culture, Harry Traynor, Marshes Shopping Centre said: “We are delighted that even at the busiest time of the year for Santa he has agreed to give whatever free time he has to e-mailing the children who post their Christmas letters at the special letter box during the festival. Santa’s Post Box is just one of the numerous attractions laid on by the Dundalk Festival of Light & Culture with children in mind. In recent years ice skating in Dundalk has been a great hit
with children so expect more fun to be had at the real Dundalk on Ice rink, fully enclosed to protect skaters from the elements. Titan the Robot will also be making a number of appearances, while children’s amusements will be located in the town centre. There is sure to be a great interest amongst young animal lovers in the Animal Farm on the Demesne, along with the Festival Train. Standard safety equipment includes six airbags – front, side and head airbags, Multi-Collision Brake
which is part of the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system. The Multi-Collision Brake system reduces the risk of the vehicle becoming involved in a secondary collision following an accident. New Pulsar Gains Maximum EuroNCAP Score • New Pulsar awarded five-star rating by independent testing organisation EuroNCAP • Maximum points scored for Child Occupant Protection in 18 month-old dummy test • Follows five-star rating awards for new X-Trail and Qashqai
Nissan has strengthened its credentials as a brand you can trust to offer the highest levels of safety, following another fivestar star rating by independent testing organisation EuroNCAP. The Pulsar's rating makes a hat-trick of five star ratings for the brand, coming just weeks after the new X-Trail and new Qashqai were also awarded the maximum fivestar safety ratings. In its crash test report, EuroNCAP highlighted the Pulsar's impressive strength, rating leg and femur protection as good and adding that even in EuroNCAP's most severe pole tests, dummies were found to be well protected against injury. The report also awarded maximum points for Child Occupant protection (1 ½ year old dummy) and praised the Pulsar's pedestrian impact protection levels. EuroNCAP's findings confirm Nissan's own analysis of the Pulsar's safety credentials, and serve to highlight the car's exceptional levels of protection for driver and passengers. Safety has long been a cornerstone of Nissan's design and engineering philosophy, and brand's commitment to advancing both passive
and active safety systems continues to mark it apart from the competition. The Pulsar showcases sector-first safety technologies, including Moving Object Detection. This advanced system builds on the capabilities of the acclaimed Around View Monitor, and gives the driver a ‘digital co-pilot' to help them look at what might be approaching the path of their reversing Pulsar. Other safety systems available to Pulsar buyers include Forward Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning and highly-efficient LED headlamps. Pulsar - introducing quality and Nissan innovation to the C-segment Officially unveiled at the Paris Motor
Show in October and now on sale across Europe, the Pulsar combines practicality, technology and quality in a package that redefines sector standards for value. Created with the same DNA as Nissan's celebrated and best-selling crossover models, the all-new Pulsar has been designed to specifically to meet the demands of C-segment buyers, and features exceptional levels of practicality - including sector-best rear legroom. The Pulsar line-up features three engine options, with outputs of 110PS, 115PS and 190PS - with all three equipped with Idle Stop-Start as standard, helping to reduce CO2 emissions and boost fuel efficiency.

Details Of The New Volvo V60 Announced
Details just in of the new Volvo V60 Cross Country. The V60 Cross Country has been introduced to compete with the likes of the Audi A4 allroad, Skoda Octavia Scout and Volkswagen Passat Alltrack. Unlike the V40 Cross Country which is only available with front wheel drive the V60 edition will have the option of all-wheel-drive. The V60 Cross Country increased ground clearance of 65mm over the standard V60, it also gains some rugged styling cues in the form
of front and rear skid plates, side scuff plates and bumper extenders. There will be a choice of 18” or 19” alloy wheels with high profile tyres to aid country pursuits. There will be the choice of three engines, all diesel – the 161bhp 2.0 D3 and 181bhp D4 which are frontwheel drive only, and an 187bhp five-cylinder D4 unit which comes with all-wheel-drive.
