Distant relatives of US President Joe Biden gather at Fitzpatrick’s Bar & Restaurant

lOCal councillor andrea McKevitt, a fifth cousin of the 46th Us President, was present at the gathering which was also attended by a number of locals.

“it’s all very exciting. We are anticipating an announcement of what he will do when he gets here,” said Cllr McKevitt.

Fourth cousin John Owen Finegan is originally from Willville, Carlingford but currently lives in newry with his wife, Daire.

“We met him (Joe biden) in lily Finnegans in 2016. He came along with his brother and sister and other members of the family,” said John Owen.

Daire Finegan, John Owen’s wife said: “We never knew until Joe biden was Vice President and he sought out information about his heritage.

“When he found out his links to ireland he wanted to come to the homestead. it was very exciting.

“John had to get his passport checked and it was all top secret. The road was closed off top and bottom.” she added: “They had a great welcome and Joe walked in as if he always frequented the place.

“He smiled from as soon as he walked in to the place until he left. He felt at home.”
