Louth County Council in process of recruiting new Harbour Master

Sinn Féin Councillor Antóin Watters has welcomed confirmation from Louth County Council that they are in the process of recruiting a new Harbour Master. the new Harbour Master will cover the north Louth area and focus mainly on Carlingford. the post will oversee the management and regulation of persons using Carlingford harbour.

Cllr Watters said “this is a very welcome update and something i have been working on for some time now. A number of constituents have raised issues and concerns about the Carlingford harbour/piers and this will hopefully start to address these.”

Following a request from Cllr Watters in 2019 for a safety audit, the Cooley Councillor provided an update with the recommendations currently being implemented.

Cllr Watters said “i have received confirmation that an area engineer recently inspected the piers on the basis of the safety audit and while a number of recommendations have in fact been implemented, there are some still outstanding that are currently being looked at and on which clarification is being sought.
