The family and friends of the late Wayne Mackin gathered in Oriel Park last Saturday afternoon to say goodbye to one of the club’s most loyal supporters as his ashes were scattered across his beloved Oriel Park. A massive Dundalk FC fan, Wayne travelled far and wide supporting his beloved Lilywhites and was on the trip to Split last summer when Dundalk came agonisingly close to knocking out Croatian giants Hajduk Split. He was also a keen club volunteer and helped out around the ground on many occasions over the years dating back to the early 1980s when he first went to Oriel Park on his Dad’s shoulders

Barrier to be erected to end illegal dumping at the end of the Racecourse Rd in a bid to Louth County Coun- end illegal dumping. cil will erect a barrier The matter was By Paul Byrne
initially raised by Cllr Conor Keelan two months ago who asked for a barrier to be erected and according to Louth County Council Senior Executive Officer Paddy Donnelly that will now happen in an effort to curtail the continuous dumping that has plagued the area. “This problem has been going on for quite some time and unfortunately these individuals have been dumping
unauthorised household waste at the lower Racecourse Road.”, explained Paddy. “Once again over the Christmas period we were informed that there had been another dumping incident and we will now try and put an end to this once and for all. We plan to erect a barrier in the with the aim being to prevent unauthorised vehicles entering the area. We are currently in talks with residents and it is
proposed that a key to open the barrier will be given to each of them for entry”, he added. Cllr Conor Keelan who asked for a barrier to be erected was happy to hear that residents in the area may soon have a fix for what has been a long standing problem. “This has been going on for years and it’s good to see that there is something been done to help the lower Racecourse residents with
regards to this illegal dumping. I put forward a motion before Christmas asking for a barrier to be put up and it seems that will happen now so hopefully this can resolve the issue. I aim to look at the logistics and the schematics of the design for the proposed barrier in the coming days and hopefully it will be a solution which works for everybody and keeps residents happy”, noted Cllr Keelan.

THE RIGHT TOOL FOR YOUR JOB
Committee members of the Dundalk Club have thanked all those who have helped in the renovation and repair work which has been undertaken recently at their premises at Roden Place. The Dundalk Club was established on February 5, 1885 with the main aim being to promote the moral, social and intellectual improvement of the members of the club and to establish a clubhouse in Dundalk which contained a library, reading room, smoking room, billiards room, as well as providing halls for lectures, meetings or other entertainment. The building was completed in 1886 with the ‘Irish Builder’ magazine describing it as being designed ‘in the Italian Gothic style using red brick and chiseled limestone’. Today the front and side exterior of the building remains remarkably unchanged with the exception of the removal of a small amount of

ironwork which had decayed over the years. In recent times the ironwork has been repaired and repainted. There are approximately 60 members in the Dundalk Club today who meet up regularly to enjoy a drink, a chat or to play on one of the two beautiful snooker tables which are located upstairs in the original billiards room. Over recent years considerable sums have been spent on the maintenance, renovation and
upgrading of the buildings interior resulting in the first and second floors now being in very good condition. Next on the agenda for the Dundalk Club is work on the basement which is in need of extensive refurbishment. In 2014 extensive re-pointing and repair work was carried out to the front of the club premises when the committee received matching public funds from the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht’s
“Built Heritage Jobs Leverage Scheme” for 2014, which was administered through Angela Dullaghan, Architectual Conservation officer, Louth County Council. The work was carried out by Nolan Group Conservation under the supervision of James Wynne, engineer and Margaret Quinlan, architect. The committee wish to place on record their gratitude for all help received so far in restoring the building to it’s former glory.

his brother Robbie he had always said he would like his ashes scattered around Oriel Park whenever he passed on. “We are all huge Dundalk FC fans in our family and Wayne was no exception. He would have said on a few occasions over the years whenever the subject of death came up that he would like his ashes to be left in Oriel Park and Soldiers Point”, explained Robbie. “My Dad, Roy, asked Andy Connolly of Dundalk FC if
we could have a ceremony in Oriel Park and he gave us the go ahead so we all went up on Saturday afternoon to say our goodbyes and spread his ashes around the pitch and shed where he spent many night supporting the team. “There was probably about three hundred people there and they gave Wayne a great send off. We scattered the ashes and then Wayne’s friends and Dundalk FC supporters started singing all the popular Dundalk songs that Wayne would have sung along to thousands of times over the years in the shed. “All the family were very grateful for the support shown for Wayne and we would like to thank everybody who came along to say goodbye to him. Wayne’s brother’s Trevor and Andrew are currently abroad and couldn’t make it on Saturday but they were there in spirit and all of the family are touched by all the good wishes that have been sent to us”, noted Robbie.

Stephen Broadhurst into national boxing finals By Paul Byrne
Dealgan boxer Stephen Broadhurst is on the verge of a national boxing title after recording a clear-cut unanimous decision against Belfast boxer Caoimhin Hynes. Next up for the 20 year old Muirhevna Mor man is defending champion Michael O’Reilly with the two battling it out this Friday evening for the 75kg senior national elite title. The victory was extra special for Stephen in what is his first year fighting for a national title as his training had been hampered due to illness and work commitments. Stephen’s father and coach Tony was understandably relieved and proud to see his son overcome the highly rated Belfast boxer. “We are thrilled with the way Stephen performed and it is a huge achievement getting to a national senior final in his first attempt. Stephen’s training was badly disrupted at the end of last year as he got sick in early December and then had to carry out work commitments towards the end of the
month which set us back a bit and if I’m being honest left me a bit worried about his chances at the national’s”, revealed Tony. “But once he started to fully concentrate on his training in early January he was like a different fella and came on a huge amount very quickly. He was as quick and
strong as I’ve ever seen him and I was confident he’d win his semi final having seen him in the gym this week. “He boxed really well in the semi final and won the first two rounds very clearly. The Belfast boxer was using his head quite a bit to try and rough up Stephen
but thankfully he didn’t do any real damage and we won quite convincingly in the end”, added Tony. Stephen who had huge success in the national youth championships down through the years winning ten national titles is busy preparing for his toughest chal-

Stephen Broadhurst is hoping for national glory on Friday
lenge to date as he takes on 2014 middleweight champion Michael O’Reilly, a skilful boxer from Portlaoise who is looking to defend his title. According to Tony this will be a very tough challenge for Stephen but winnable if his son is at his best. “Michael O’Reilly is an excellent boxer and he’s a great champion but if you want to be the best you have to beat the best and hand on heart I would say if Stephen performs like we know he can he can win the title on Friday evening. “But there can be no room for any sub par performance as this guy is too good and won’t let Stephen away with a bad performance. We will train for the fight this week and listen to Stephen’s body to see how hard or how easy we take things. We’re looking forward to what will be a great fight and may the best man win”, added Tony. Stephen’s fight for the Senior National Elite 75kg title will be televised live on TG4 this Friday evening.

Drinking water is safe By Paul Byrne
Louth County Council have moved to quell fears of contamination in our drinking water following the Sunday Independent’s report claiming that carcinogenic waste flows from an illegal fuel plant in South Armagh into the town’s water supply. The newspaper’s report states that it has obtained evidence of carcinogenic waste flowing from an illegal fuel plant in South Armagh into Lough Muckno, Lough Ross and the River Fane, which supplies Dundalk. It claims that a sample of water taken last week was shown to contain 8,000 times more chemical pollution than clean drinking water Reacting to the Sunday Independent article Louth County Council released a statement on Monday morning assuring people that the council carry out regular stringent tests on our water supply and all tests are compliant with the issued guidelines. The council stated that regular tests are carried out and that Dundalk’s public water if fully
compliant with drinking water regulations. All standing orders were suspended at the Louth County Council monthly meeting on Monday morning as councillors debated the findings of the Sunday Independent report. During the meeting a vote was passed condemning the fuel smugglers at the meeting after being proposed by Cllr John McGahon. Speaking after the meeting Cllr
McGahon condemned the actions of the fuel launderers operating along the border. “These fuel launderers have now moved into the business of poisoning our local waterways. “The pollution in our rivers is not caused by high winds or high tides or any other environmental matters, it’s caused by criminal activity, the vast majority of which is conducted by well known republicans in the border region. “I have always believed in straight talking and to put it mildly, these gangsters are engaged in environmental terrorism. People along the border are fearful of them. “Last year, Louth County Council spent €65,000 clearing up toxic sludge disposed on our roadways, now these criminals are dumping in our waterways, but what will it cost the people of County Louth in the long run in terms of health”, he said. Louth County Council say that they intend to contact the Sunday Independent to seek the full details of their findings.
Council statement on water quality
The statement issued by Louth County Council in relation to Sunday’s media reports is as follows: Louth County Council noted media reports yesterday regarding an alleged pollution discharge to Lough Ross in Co. Armagh entering the River Fane system which is the source of the drinking water supply for Dundalk. “Louth County Council on behalf of Irish water has contacted the Water Pollution Inspectorate in Northern Ireland to investigate the alleged incident. It is alleged in the media that an oil laundering plant is operating in South Armagh and discharging to a tributary which feeds Lough Ross in Co. Armagh. “The Council carries out regular sampling at various properties throughout the water distribution system for Dundalk. The drinking water sample results for Dundalk Public Water Supply Scheme for 2014 for PAHs is fully compliant with the Drinking Water Regulations and below the 0.1µg/L limit. “The river water results taken at the Dundalk Water Supply abstraction point on the River Fane during 2014 show COD is less than 40mg/l during the year and therefore compliant with the Quality of Surface Water Intended for the Abstraction of Drinking Water Regulations The drinking water samples for Dundalk Town and Environs have all been compliant with the Drinking Water Regulations 2013 with the exception of one instance of lead detection. The investigation of this lead non-compliance showed there was no lead on the public side of the public water supply.” read the statement.

DkIT Film back with The Imposter
DkIT Library Film Club returns with a screening of The Imposter at 2pm on Wednesday January 28. The Imposter is a chilling factual thriller that chronicles the story of a 13-year-old boy who disappears without a trace from San Antonio, Texas in 1994. Three and a half years later he is found alive, thousands of miles away in a village in southern Spain with a story of kidnapping and torture. His family is overjoyed to bring him home. But all is not quite as it seems. The boy bears many of the same distinguishing marks he always had, but why does he now have a strange accent? Why does he look so different? Any why doesn’t the family seem to notice these glaring inconsistencies? It’s only when an investigator starts asking questions that this strange tale takes an even stranger turn. Investment brings jobs boost to Louth Local TD, Peter Fitzpatrick has welcomed the growth in local jobs over the past three years which were highlighted in a recent report. “Foreign investment by IDA client companies directly created 1,707 high-skilled jobs in Louth from 2011 to 2014 and resulted in 1,195 additional indirect positions in the local economy. This brings to 2,902 the number of new jobs in Louth due to IDA Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)”, said Deptuty Fitzpatrick. “IDA investment is important in directly creating opportunities for our skilled workforce. However as every ten jobs generated by FDI create another seven in the wider economy; there is also a significant knock-on effect for local areas. “Louth has a lot to offer investors and business owners; we have the skilled workforce, we have the infrastructure and local services are con-
stantly improving to meet the needs of those doing business here. The news that the IDA has brought 2,902 jobs to the area is very encouraging, especially considering the fact that the majority of FDI has traditionally been concentrated in the main population centres of Dublin and Cork”, continued the Fine Gael TD. The latest Live Register figures show that the unemployment rate nationally has dropped to 10.7% from a high of 15.1% in 2012. In Louth the unemployment rate has fallen by 20.8%. “Thanks to the sacrifices people have made it is now possible for the Government to cut taxes. Every household with somebody in fulltime work will have more money in their pockets this month and we’re committed to reducing personal taxation further this year”, continued Mr Fitzpatrick.
arms/ammunition as a result of the incident on May 7 last year. Insp Martin Beggy stated that as a result of the concerns of family members, Garda attended the house and found the defendant with a loaded revolver and ammunition. The gun was not used but
he was making indications that he was going to use it on himself. It was not used in an approach to anyone else. The defence barrister stated that the incident highlighted the difficulties Mr Bielskis was suffering. “The sad reality is that he had the
weapon and said he would use it on himself and he put it to his head. It highlights some psychiatric issues which are now being attended to. The threats were to himself and there was no other criminality involved”, he added. The barrister point-
ed out that the defendant had difficulties which led to difficulties with drugs, but he was fortunate that his parents noticed a change in behaviour and called the Gardai. Judge Flann Brennan adjourned the case until April 8 for a Probation Report.

Over to you Question:
Do you feel safe drinking water from your tap?
Micheal McKeown
Richard Matthews
No, I am scared that it’s polluted and I haven’t drank out of the tap for years. The same pollution is causing the awful smell out in Blackrock.
No, I’d only use water at home for showers and having a wash. When I’m drinking water it always comes out of a bottle.
Joshua Morris I would hope that the tap water is safe but you can never be sure. I do sometimes drink from the tap but I’d be 50/50 as to whether it’s ok or not.
Anna Krok I never drink water from the tap for a number of reasons. I don’t like the metallic taste, I’m scared it’s polluted and with young children in the house you have to be careful.
Peggy McCreesh Thankfully we have our own well so I don’t have to worry about what state my water is in. I’d be wary drinking tap water if I’m in town though due to the stories about pollutants.
Operation Transformation National Day of Walks
Over 500 people of all ages turned out last Saturday January 17 for the Louth Operation Transformation Walk. The walk which was organised by Louth Local Sports Partnership started off with a lap of The Lourdes Stadium before following a loop around the streets of Drogheda and finishing back at the stadium. Mark McArdle from Dunleer, one of the five Operation Transformation leaders from around the country was participating in the walk. He had a large contingent of supporters there to cheer him on and Dr Ciara Kelly from the OT show was on

hand to encourage the walkers. The Sports Partnership would like to thank trained Irish Heart Foundation
walking leader Stephen Cull for leading the walk and Cllr Oliver Tully who welcomed everyone and praised Mark for his success so far on the
show. RTÉ’s Operation Transformation teamed up, once again, with the Irish Sports Council and Local Sports
Partnerships by organising the national walks which took place in over 40 locations all around Ireland, the highest number to date. John Treacy CEO of the Irish Sports Council said ‘We encourage people that are not walking on a regular basis to do so and to invest in their own health and wellbeing”. The Irish Sports Council National Trails Unit has over 650 trails registered to help keep you walking throughout the year. Visit the www.irishsportscouncil. ie for further information. Many people do not realise it but physical inactivity
is one of the main risk factors for heart disease. At least 30 minutes of physical activity at a moderate intensity, such as brisk walking, five days a week will keep your heart strong, improve muscle strength and make you feel good. Walking is a fun, social way for people to get fit and stay fit, as part of a healthier lifestyle. Follow on walking programmes available through Louth Local Sports Partnership as follows The Sports Partnership has also organised follow on walks in Dundalk and Drogheda which will run for six weeks. The walks are free and are open
to all fitness levels and abilities. Following on from the walks it is hoped that new walking groups will form and that they will continue to meet up regularly. The walks in Dundalk will start on Thursday January 22 at 7.30. The group will meet at St. Helena Park at the entrance opposite Lidl Car Park. Booking is not required. Please bring a hiviz vest (if you have one). in Brief
Genealogical Society
Cooley Genealogical and Historical Society are commencing a project to create memorial books in relation to cemeteries at Cill Mhuire, Boher and Grange. The purpose of this exercise is to find people who are not listed on the headstones but are known to family members. Everybody is welcome to come to a meeting in February, 2015, to discuss the project and submit family dead. Most of the dead are long forgotten but there are at least three to four generations who could be recorded. It is then up to the family concerned whether they would like to have their family included in the Memorial Books. The end result will be to link up all families so that everybody is recorded including the forgotten. If the programme were finished, it would link each family to extended families and the process could be carried on for future generations where everyone could be recorded. People could also be linked to family plots in Carlingford, Newtown and Omeath. If you require further details, please phone 0851833110.

Man claimed he was handcuffed after arrest A man who failed to convince the court that he was handcuffed during his arrest on suspicion of drink driving, failed in his bid to have the charge against him dismissed. Niall Quigley of 29 McSwiney St, Dundalk, was disqualified from driving for three years and fined €200 after being convicted of the offence on May 17 on the Inner Relief Road at Dowdallshill. The court heard that on that date, the defendant passed a patrol car resulting in the Gardai stopping him in order to questions him about his speed. When they approached the car, in which there was a female passenger, the officers noticed two open cans of Dutch Gold.
Mr Quigley admitted that he had been drinking and was arrested. A sample taken at Dundalk Garda Station showed he was over the limit for driving. The female passenger became aggressive and had to be arrested. She was placed in handcuffs and taken in another patrol car. Mr Quigley stated that he had been out in town with a friend and was driving home when stopped. He added that one of the Gardai “read him his rights” and handcuffed him. The Gardai dealing with the incident stated that Mr Quigley was not handcuffed as there was no need to because he was cooperative. Solicitor, Niall Breen, stated that if the court accepted that the
defendant was handcuffed then any other evidence is inadmissible. Judge Flann Brennan agreed with this assertion but stated that it was clear from the evidence of the Garda that the circumstances didn’t warrant handcuffing. “He says he was handcuffed but he had alcohol consumed while the Garda was sober. Her evidence is preferential and I have no doubt that he wasn’t handcuffed. Mr Breen stated that his 22-year-old client works in Muirhevnamor Community Centre on a Back to Work scheme, and apologises for his actions, and also for driving with no insurance. Mr Quigley was fined €100 and banned for two years in relation to the no insurance charge.

Search for owners of missing camera By Paul Byrne
A woman is attempting to find the owner of a camera which was found on a bench in Carlingford five years ago. Grainne O’Neill who now lives in Dublin stumbled upon the camera recently whilst cleaning out her Dad’s house. He had found the camera on a bench in
Carlingford in 2009 but failed to find its owner. Grainne is now renewing the search for the camera’s owner five years later having recently seen it in her Dad’s house. “I was going through a few things in my Dad’s house when I came across this camera which he had found in Carlingford back in 2009. He never managed
to find it’s owner and although I realise the chances are slim I decided I’d try to solve the puzzle and get the camera back to whoever it belongs to”, explained Grainne. “I realise from the dates on the photos that the last photos were taken in 2009 so finding the owners will be a long shot. However , I think it would mean a lot to
them so I’ll do whatever I can to find the owner”, added Grainne. Amongst the pictures on the camera include various family snaps including baby photos as well as holiday snaps from London and an Eagles concert. There is also a picture of a couple from what looks like a wedding dated 1/5/2009 with the lady wearing a black dress with
a pink rose as well as a pink necklace and the man wearing a light coloured shirt with pink and blue pinstripes with a dark tie. Other photos show a holiday in London and an Eagles concert. If anybody thinks they are or know the owner of this camera contact Dundalk Leader at 042 9320888.

Rugby club maintain winning run
The Dundalk U10 squad made the short trip up the M1 to their neighbours Boyne for a blitz on Saturday morning for their first match of the New Year. The Black Sharks were straight into their groove right from the off with Shaun Paul Shannon and Fionn Connolly causing the home defence major headaches. Also a feature of the Dundalk lads’ fine form was some magnificent interplay between Rory Wallace and Ewan Kelly. During the matches, anytime the opposition were beginning to get a foothold in the games, Ryan Martin and Darragh Collier met them with some ferocious tackling. DD Reilly kept his side on the front foot all day with a masterclass performance at scrum half and the two benefactors of this were Enda Dooley and Oisin Nash who both scored tremendous individual tries. The White Sharks were a little slow to acclimatise to the cold conditions but a fantastic individual try from debutant Sean McKeever sparked them into action. Oisin McBride and Iarlaith Connolly continued the attacking onslaught with a brace of tries apiece. The morale of the opposition was tested to the limit by the strong and relentless running of Calum Lambe and Eoin Purton which in turn provided the space for Eamon Donnelly and Max Valentine to notch up a try each. Adam McCoy performed to his normal high standard
Action from Dundalk’s win over Monkstown
by constantly overturning possession and thwarting the opposition’s plans. But performance of the day was reserved for Michael Carroll whose pace and power (in both defence and attack) was a joy to witness. Expansive play was the order of the day for the Grey Sharks as they produced some fantastic rugby during their matches with Callum McDowell and Keelan Carroll to the fore. An early injury to both Liam O Connor and Donal Lavery sidelined them for a match but they came roaring back with two outstanding performances in the subsequent matches. Cian McGuiness resembled a freight train on occasions with his barnstorming runs with Jacob Dunlevy and Jack
Mullen picking up some very well taken scores. The unfortunate Boyne team just had not the answers for the guile and aggression of Euan McArdle whose sublime display provided the ammunition for Ben Cahill to use his searing pace to outwit the home defence on numerous times. Training continues at 6.30pm on Tuesdays and 10.15am on Saturdays. All new players welcome. Dundalk scored a convincing 3716 victory over Monkstown in the Leinster league and with a bonus point consolidated their position at the top of the league. Once again it was an Ultan Murphy penalty that got Dundalk off the
mark with MJ McKevitt adding the first try of the game. A further try followed from Jonathan Williams as Dundalk went into the break leading by 18-0. Monkstown reduced the gap to 18-8 early in the second half but Williams crossed the line to put Dundalk back in command. Thomas Campbell and Derek Williams scored late tries to complete the win. Meanwhile Dundalk 2nds recorded a 12-10 win over Monkstown on Saturday. Two James Shields penalties helped Dundalk to lead 6-3 in the first half and the same player kicked two further penalties to hold off the Dublin side’s challenge.

Driver narrowly missed patrol car in housing estate
A man who stole fuel and oil from a petrol station came to the attention of Gardai on his way home for the manner of his driving. Charles McGinley of 17 College Heights, Hoey’s Lane, Dundalk, was sentenced to 80 hours Community Service in lieu of two months in prison and a six month suspended sentence for theft. Insp Martin Beggy stated that at 3.30pm on September 7, 2014, the defendant put €20 petrol into his car at the Tesco filling station
before taking oil valued at €42 from the shop and leaving without paying. At 7pm that evening, Gardai were attending at his home address when the defendant drove into the estate at a fast pace, taking a corner at speed and swaying across the road. He then drove at the patrol car and narrowly missed it before turning at speed and coming to a stop. There were children in the estate at the time but nobody was hurt. Solicitor, Dermot Monahan,
SALE ENDS SUNDAY!
stated that his client had paid the €20 petrol and pointed out that both incidents had happened almost contemporaneously as he was coming back from the petrol station. He added that he assumes a father figure in the house, helping his mother while he also has to travel to hospital following an injury suffered in an assault. If he lost his licence it would have a significant impact on the household, and has he only had his licence restored he didn’t want to lose it again.

Youth Café to open in Omeath
Omeath District Development Company today confirmed that north Louth’s newest youth orientated facility- The Omeath Youth Café is set on target to open its doors in April of this year. The valuable facility which was awarded €50,000 under the Pobail Youth Capital Programme, will offer a safe and secure drop in amenity for local youths. The supervised facility will also include a dedicated space in the community for all youth focused groups in the area including the already established Omeath Youth Group. The local development company is also delighted to announce that, due to the securing of a further three year contract with Pobail under the Community Services Programme, they will continue their strong commitment to tourism and remain the leading drivers of tourism on The Cooley Peninsula. The company has successfully administered the Cooley Peninsula Tourist Office since 2001, securing the title of Irelands European Destination of Excellence award for the area in 2008. This resulted in a massive increase in visitor numbers to the picturesque area and firmly placed it on the tourist map. The renewed contract offered by the Community Services Programme, includes an increase in positions and will provide additional employment within The Tourist Office and The Dolmen Centre where the local development company is based. “This is a very welcome development that will directly assist with our future plans to continue to address the alleviation of rural isolation and enhance the social and economic fabric of this community”, said Helen Thompson Manager, Omeath District Development.

Man was making money from ‘evil empire’ A man was described as trying to make money from an evil empire when he appeared at Dundalk District Court to answer drugs charges. Sean Quinn McDonagh of 8 Beacon Court, Coe’s Road, Dundalk, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of drugs for sale or supply from October 9, 2013. On that day, Gardai searched the home of the defendant, who wasn’t present at the time, and found weigh-
ing scales, diazepam and cannabis valued at €2,209. Resealable plastic bags were also found along with €1,000 cash. The defendant was arrested and made admissions in terms of some cash and possession, but denied dealing. Quinn McDonagh’s solicitor stated that the offences occurred 14 months ago when he was in a dark place. He was reliant on tablets for
depression and anxiety and he had decided to self-medicate rather than go to a GP. He added that the defendant had a drug debt and held the drugs to pay that off, which is how he became involved. The solicitor pointed out that the incident was a turning point in the life of the 27-year-old father of three as he realised he had to make a change in his life. He previously worked as a
labourer and was not looking for employment. He no longer uses drugs. Judge Flann Brennan stated that he would adjourn the case to April 1 for a Community Service Report, but would not make any promises in that regard. “I am not saying I will do it as this is a serious case. This is a blatant case of someone trying to make money from this evil empire”, he added.

ow that the cold snap has arrived in earnest it is time to consider the best and most efficient ways of heating our homes. Many people with a real fire like nothing better than the comfort offered by your coal. For those who rely on oil heating, the reduced prices make
this a good month to fill the tank or get a top-up. To make sure your system is even more efficient, you should also consider having your boiler serviced. Some of the best tips for getting the most from your money when it comes to heating are as follows: Have your boiler serviced at least once
a year: Boilers are not 100% efficient around 20% of the heat generated is lost up the chimney. Heat loss can increase to 30% or more if the boiler is poorly maintained. Regularly check your heating system for leaks: Water or oil leaks prevent your system from working efficiently.

GILROY HEATING SERVICES
GAS - OIL - SOLID FUEL INSTALLATION - SERVICE - MAINTENANCE
Check for signs of leakage from your tank, pipework, valves, and boiler. Always order the optimum quantity for the capacity of your tank. Never run out of Home Heating Oil: Apart from the discomfort and inconvenience, some oil will be wasted if your system needs to be bled in order to restart it. It will also cost more to heat your home to the required temperature again. Do not overheat your home: The recommended temperature for your home is 18 degrees centigrade (21 degrees for homes with elderly persons or young children). Your heating costs will rise by about 8% for each 1 degree Centigrade of overheating.
Keep radiators free from obstructions: Having radiators obstructed by furniture etc. will reduce their output and lead to poor performance. Avoid opening windows and doors when the heating is on or fire lit. Money is wasted each time heat is lost through an open window or door. Increase your comfort by reducing the heating instead.

The Darkness coming to Spirit Store The Spirit Store will be the venue for what should prove to be a very popular concert on Friday March 6 when they host The Darkness. Legendary glam rockers The Darkness exploded into the public consciousness for both their unique brand of glammed-up rock and outrageous stage costumes when their debut album ‘Permission To Land’ shot to number one, spawning new rock anthems including ‘Love Is Only A Feeling’, ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’ and ‘Growing On Me’. 2015 sees the band release their fourth album, provisionally titled Cliffhanger, scheduled for release in March. It follows the band’s 2012 comeback Hot Cakes, and also marks the debut of the band’s new drummer, Emily Dolan Davies, who replaced founding member Ed Graham in late 2014. Tickets on sale from www.spiritstore.ie, www. ticketmaster.ie, McAteers, and Spirit Store bar priced €22. Doors open 8pm.
Dominic and Mary together in TLT Two of Ireland’s best known entertainers, Dominic Kirwan and Mary Duff, will be appearing in the TLT, Drogheda, on February 27 as part of an extensive tour of Ireland and the UK. The performers, who have 50 years of experience in the industry between them, will join forces in an all new show that has already been eagerly anticipated with a real step up in quality and class. Both have toured extensively over two decades, with Mary fresh from several years as special guest with Daniel O’Donnell and Dominic celebrating twenty five years as a professional recording artiste. In their own right both Mary and Dominic are already at the top of the entertainment ladder, together with a superb new five piece band they will take you on a stunning musical journey that will rekindle your love of live music. Last year marked a massive milestone in the career of Omagh singer Dominic, 25 years since the talented entertainer signed a record deal with Ritz records, 25 years on and the story continues Dominic remaining one of the most popular singers touring, performing and recording with a fan base of all ages throughout the world who enjoy his wonderful stage presence and performances. Dominic and Mary have both risen through the ranks from playing the pubs and clubs of their homeland to the cream of the UK’s concert halls and theatres. Like Dominic, Mary Duff from County Meath has been a firm favorite on stages all over the world, she has established herself in her own right after over a decade joining Daniel O’Donnell as his special guest. Mary’s career seems to go from strength to strength, and as the salutation and success continue to roll in for the genuinely charismatic and warm Irish singer, there seems little sign of the celebrated triumphs slowing down.

New venue confirmed for Brendan Grace Friday 23rd January
karaoke with damien Saturday 24th January LIVE MUSIC with
McCollum Brothers Parties catered for We can arrange the music & finger food if required
The ever-popular Brendan Grace returns to Dundalk on Friday January 23 with his show “it’s s Funny Old World” now taking place in the Carrickdale Hotel. It’s a funny old world when seen through the eyes of Brendan Grace. The sanctimonious priest who knows more than he’s telling: ‘’Blessed is he who gets married in the nick of time’’. The father of the bride makes a speech at his daughters wedding: ‘’She could have married someone with money; she could have married someone who was working. She could have married someone who wasn’t working..but was willing to work.’’ Then there’s the schoolboy with the unspeakable personal habits and a fine line in sympathy pleas. Brendan Grace is all of these and more. Each cock- eyed portrait he paints has a ring of truth that brings audiences to the point of apoplexy. Brendan’s material owes more to the best of the traditional stand-up-comics than it does to modern alternative humour and his show is very much a show for all the family. There is a sincerity about his act that endears you to him, and his off-stage persona is very much a ‘man of the people’ as he makes himself available after each show for a photo and a ‘meet and greet’. Tickets at Hotel Reception and Ticketmaster.ie Tickets purchased for Fairways Hotel on January 23rd are valid for this concert.
