Sign of the Coming King

As we move into the 21st century, our technology is moving faster than one can keep up with. Not long ago, National Geographic aired a program that specifically talks about Doomsday Preppers, which has a lot of people wondering about an event involving destruction or damage on an awesome or catastrophic scale, and a lot of those people are not even religious. Worrying about such things like environment and natural disaster. Other groups may worry about war, a social political meltdown, apocalypse, or Armageddon, adding some religious overtones to their fear that can make people feel uncomfortable. Matthew 24:7 says, “Nation will rise against

nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.” So basically, preppers are just trying to be selfsufficient in the face of these doomsday prophecies, prepping for the last days by storing buckets of beans, water, and ways to generate electrical power from various sources. These groups are taking action in self-preservation and being on the watch not to be caught asleep behind the wheel, and it doesn’t mean that taking action and making preparation is a bad thing as you observe today’s times as the world turns.

I Believe One of the Most Powerful Words Is…

Dr. Dianne Coflin Co-Pastor, River of Life Church This word is so strong that God said we were to motivate people daily with it. That is the word “encourage”!! This powerful word means to inspire or persuade with courage, spirit, or hope. Why would God say that we were to encourage one another daily? I believe the Lord knew the many opportunities we would have to be discouraged. This means to be deprived of courage so as to lose confidence and grow disheartened and weary. How many people do you know who are discouraged? All of us face many varied and difficult challenges. The loss of loved ones, unemployment, financial struggles, poor health, and broken relationships are just a few. Not to mention the unending stories on the nightly news about devastations, hardships, and strife in our nation, and disasters around the world! The truth is we are not able to control circumstances that come into our lives, nor can we fix all the world’s problems, but we can adjust the way we see things with God’s help! In the Book of Jeremiah (Jer. 17:5-8), God shows us two people with very different viewpoints. One person is in the midst of very contrary circumstances and is so overwhelmed that his heart and mind are filled with anxiety. In fact he is so overwhelmed that he is described as being lost in a parched desert, living in a rocky place in the wilderness. What a horrible place to be! This individual became so filled with anxiety his heart turned away from the Lord because he was relying on his own strength to try to

fix his problems. Did you know that worrying is a form of worship? It is giving worth to the problem instead of to the Lord. This individual needed great encouragement! In contrast, the other individual was facing the same set of circumstances, with many opportunities to overcome. However, his heart was turned toward God, trusting him. He had the same opportunity to be filled full of fear and anxiety but instead chose to cast his care upon the Lord. In so doing he was described as being nourished and blessed, bearing good fruit in a hard season in life. In fact, the Bible described him as so filled with peace he didn’t even notice when the hard times were there. You see, his attitude had been so changed by allowing God’s presence to help him that his life became very blessed and secure. Maybe you have been in this contrary place in life. Your thoughts are daily filled with fears, and in worrying you think you can control your life, only to find it’s further out of control. You see, an adversary exalts himself in your life by leading your thoughts in a way that is contrary to believing God cares and wants to intervene. So, what can you do? The Bible says to “Cast the whole of your care (all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all) upon Him, because He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.”(1 Peter 5:7 AMP.) If God tells us we can do something, then He will empower us to do so. Maybe you need to start with a list of all the things that are troubling you and write them down. Then humble yourself before the Lord in prayer, bring your list and one by one release those cares to Him. Then throw that list away. Can I tell you a humble and contrite heart before God will solicit His presence and release His power to help you in the midst of your circumstances? In a moment, God can change your outlook, adjust your attitude, lift you up, and bring you

great encouragement!! Take that bold step to- and ladies meetings. We would love to have wards Him, because He cares for you!! you come!! Food for thought!! “Don’t tell me what to do!” I’ve heard it said that confession is good for the soul but bad for the reputation. So here goes… I have control issues. No I’m not OCD about anything and actually I like to think of myself as pretty laid back, but I like to manage things on my own and take a little pride in it too. I believe the statement above resonates in all of us. No one likes to be treated like a robot that receives orders and has no say so in life, yet it is interesting that we have a condition inside all tax deferred accounts (IRAs, 401Ks, etc) called a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). If you’re not familiar with this, the tax law requires you to take out a small percentage of your money starting at age 70 ½ or pay a penalty. This percentage increases each year. You declare that money as income on your taxes and you’ll do it each year thereafter. When I first heard about this, it frustrated me because people were being forced to pay taxes all because the IRS wants its money. However, there is another side to this story. You’ve heard the saying “there’s no such thing as a free lunch.” And the saying is true in this case too. When contributions to tax deferred accounts were made, a tax deduction was received. Therefore when money is taken out, taxes need to be paid. In the end, your beneficiary will be receiving this money and unless it’s a charity, taxes will be paid by the beneficiary. As a result, it is better to take

money out sequentially, even if it’s forced, than to put a large tax burden on your children or beneficiary. However, not all distributions will result in someone paying on April 15th. Below are some questions and strategies to consider so the required distributions are in your best interest. • Do you need the money for retirement? If so, then be intentional about the distributions and where you take the money from (Ex. IRA vs Non-IRA). This can be worked into your financial plan by easily satisfying two objectives at the same time. • Do you plan on reinvesting the money? The money does not have to be spent, it can be moved into another investment vehicle allowing for potential continual growth. • Do you plan on passing the money to heirs? Consider converting IRA assets to a Roth IRA. The money converted does become taxable but once in a Roth an RMD is eliminated. • Do you have a charitable mindset? Consider giving your RMD to a charity. This allows for the dollars to not be taxable to you at all because of your charitable contribution. If you ever find yourself asking questions about this subject, give me a call. I’d love to help you think through the best strategies. Tyrone Keys Honored Former Chicago Bears defensive lineman Tyrone Keys, a member of the Super Bowl XX winning Bears who clinched the victory following the 1985 NFL season, was honored by the Mississippi Senate with a presentation of Senate Resolution 547 at the Mississippi Capitol on Thursday, April 5, 2018, for his community benevolence and football success. Keys played six seasons with Chicago and went on to play with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and San Diego Chargers. In high school, Keys was a member of the Callaway High School Chargers of Jackson, Mississippi, who in 1975 won all 12 of their regular season games and won the Big 8 Conference Championship. Keys was a standout defensive tackle at Mississippi State University for four years and made a last minute tackle in

1980 of Alabama’s quarterback that caused a fumble, giving Mississippi State a 6-3 victory over then number 1 ranked Alabama. Keys—of Tampa, FL—is pictured with Senator John Horhn and Keys’ mother, Johnnie Ruth Keys of Jackson.

Encountering the Real Jesus: Unhindered Keith Chandler, Journey Christian Church

If you’ve ever been turned off by religion, Jesus was too. When it comes to religion, we all have these assumptions about God we grew up with. Assumptions that might be based on good intentions, but they’re not found in the Bible. The false assumption we have is Good Behavior = God’s Acceptance. This is a false assumption Jesus fought against. What bothered the religious leaders the MOST is what Jesus would do on the Sabbath. One of the commandments was to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. You shouldn’t work on the Sabbath. So to try to obey this command, the religious leaders had hundreds of rules they made up (which were not in the Old Testament). One of the rules said you couldn’t walk a mile. So every 7/8th of a mile, they would have huts you could walk in to rest for a while, and then you could get up and walk another 7/8th of a mile. Jesus was always doing something on the Sabbath. He would heal people, and you could almost hear the religious leaders say, “Can’t you just wait one more day to heal them?” One rule was, you couldn’t harvest on the Sabbath because that was considered work. Jesus said, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” — Mark 2:27 They missed the entire point of the Sabbath. It’s not like God had all these rules and thought, “I have these great laws, I need to create some people to keep them.” That’s not how it worked. God didn’t create the law and then create people. God created people and then he created the law. The law is for people, not people for the law. Let me put it this way: parents don’t have children so that there will be someone to pick up the toys. Great parents set rules, but they bend them when it’s appropriate. God is the perfect heavenly father. He didn’t create people for the law. He created the law for people. He created it to protect us because God is FOR you, not against you. Religion has its place, but it should never be first place. When religion is first place, leaders become self-righteous and followers become hypocrites because no one can keep all the rules. Jesus is the end of religion. He said, “I didn’t come to abolish the law and the prophets. I came to fulfill them.” The end of religion means pride is replaced with surrender. The reason Jesus went after the religious leaders was their PRIDE. Religion gives us this checklist. “I can compare what I’ve done to what you haven’t done, and then I can take pride in my accomplishments.” Pride is NOT a currency in the kingdom of God, though. Jesus requires surrender. The Bible says our righteousness is like filthy rags. You can never be good enough. If we can just get rid of some of this religious stuff, I wonder what God might begin to do through us. Mark 3:6 says, “Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.” These two groups hated each other. UNTIL NOW. Now they agree Jesus must go. They must get rid of Jesus because they don’t like what he says. I wonder if there’s not still a portion of that that’s still around today because the gospel of Jesus is offensive to the religious and the anti-religious. The gospel doesn’t say the good are in and the bad are out. It doesn’t say that the open minded are in and the judgmental are out. The gospel says anyone who surrenders to Jesus is in. Jesus says, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” — Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG) Until next month, Keith 7708 Van Dyke Rd, Odessa 813-920-0442 • Sun. 10:00

What Does The Bible Say About Investing? James H. Willis, III Founder and President The Willis Agency, Inc 813-948-9109 Jim@TheWillisAgency.com www.TheWillisAgency.com 1 Peter 5:7 A bunch, believe it or not. It’s a major theme throughout the entire Bible. Spiritually speaking, the Bible has a great deal to say about investments and investment decisionmaking. For example, we need to be aware of five things in our decision process. First is diversification, second is our long time horizon, third is what our professional counsel may suggest, fourth is asking what are our motives, and fifth is your personal perspective on things. Next, we need to always be aware of the investment world’s larger picture. Investments are a tool and not an end in themselves. Here are the four universal “Big Pictures”. 1) Economic uncertainty is always certain—isn’t that true! 2) Economic prosperity is certain only in retrospect. All the education and experience is still uncertain. 3) Economic cycles (ups and downs) are normal, and to ignore them is foolish and dangerous. 4) The future cannot be predicted, we just don’t know what we don’t know. When you and I are looking at investing, we should be aware of some of the quantitative variables that affect our objectives. They are our age, our temperament, our situation, the financial climate, and the timing of income and cash flow. When we are looking for options, they are not found in company names per say, but in classes and periods. For example, by time period, the dollar cost averaging, or by asset class—in allocation or by specific investment

desires and even in geography—parts of the country or world and lastly, having professional help. Personally, at the Willis Agency, we specifically focus on the preservation phase of money. Long ago we realized that we were working with many retired people and they just didn’t want that roller coaster ride of the ups and downs with their life savings anymore. I also found that everybody talks about making money, but few show how to keep your money. At the Willis Agency, that’s what we do, we show people how to keep their money. I just never wanted to be that guy who you call on Monday and say, “What happened to all of my money?” I just do not like that scenario. We also have a concept of having your money match your age. So, all my customers can say that they have never lost one dime of money, ever! If you want to find out how to never lose money again and how to have your money last as long as you do, give the office a call to set up an appointment at 813-948-9109. In conclusion, I have listed several verses for your review. Prov. 24:27, Prov. 28:20, Luke 14:28, Prov. 6:6-8, Ecc. 11:1-2, Prov. 15:16, II Peter 3:4, James 1:5, Heb 11:6, Prov 4:20-27. Caring for you and yours, Jim

Honoring Mom

Samantha Taylor Samantha Taylor Fitness Moms give so much of their lives to raise their children, investing their time to be there for whatever their kids need. And in the midst of caring for everyone else, Mom often doesn’t take care of her own health. She carefully packs everyone’s lunch but her own. She makes sure everyone gets to their sports and activities but her own. What mom doesn’t realize sometimes is that by not taking care of herself, she cannot give as much as she can to those kids because many times she is just so tired. Of course that is not the case for all moms, but the thousands of moms I have helped lose weight say before they start our program, “I just want more energy to feel better and to be more active with my kids.” I had one client who lost four sizes and helped her children come off sugar say, “I am so much happier as a mother. I didn’t realize how irritable I had become with these three boys. It really is so different raising kids when you are healthy and fit.” Many moms regret sitting on the sidelines instead of being engaged with them. And numerous moms have admitted to me that that they don’t feel as confident about their body compared to the other moms, so they feel embarrassed showing up at events and interacting with other people, that they are not as happy as they used to be and that makes them grouchier and snappier with their kids. And by the time the evening rolls around, she has given so much of herself that when it comes time to spend time with her husband, she sometimes just feels too tired

and wants to go bed! Then I hear the other side of moms who do take action and invest time in themselves. They learn that it’s not selfish and it’s actually for the family too because when mom is happy and feeling good, that affects the whole family. I have had husbands of our clients tell me, “Thank you for giving my wife back! She is happy again!” A good example of this is Melissa, whose husband inspired her to come see us and she has now lost 71 lbs. in 7 months! It’s so important that you mothers take care of yourselves too. When you do this, your bodies are strong and you have lots of energy and stamina to be the wonder women you are! Women are amazing, and being a mother is whole other level. Give yourself the gift of taking care of you too! You are not only doing it for yourself but you are also doing it for your family. You want to be able to play with those children on the ground and easily get back up, to be able to watch them graduate and babysit those grandchildren without being bogged down with a bunch of medical issues. I know it might be a ways down the road, but thinking about what that woman looks like now is important. Most people that deal with medical issues wish they would have taken care of their body. I know some medical issues are not avoidable, but doing something to prevent the ones that are is the key. Give your mother, your wife, or yourself the gift of health and wellness and contact us for a complimentary Body Transformation Analysis so you can see and feel how much better you will feel when you are healthier! We even have many husbands that have encouraged wives to come see us, give them this article or show them our website: www. SamanthaTaylorFitness.com. Happy Mother’s Day, you amazing women!

Help A Child To Walk! Golf for a Cause at Topgolf, Tampa Imagine you wake up with your foot feeling like it weighs 50 pounds and you are trying to lift it to take your step. Every step takes strength and energy and you have to keep your balance to keep from falling. Daisy Vega and other children and adults live with this every day. They are experiencing foot drop, and approximately 70,000 people will experience foot drop in Florida. Foot drop is a weakness or paralysis of the muscles involved in lifting the front part of the foot necessary for walking. It causes a person to drag the foot and toes or engage in a high-stepping walk called a steppage gait and increases the risk of falling. Daisy Vega founded the Freedom to Walk Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, to help raise awareness and funds for the purchase of WalkAides® for children and adults experiencing foot drop due to multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, stroke, incomplete spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury. The WalkAide® is a functional electrical stimulation device which when worn on the calf sends electric impulses to the affected foot, causing the foot and leg to lift. The insurance companies state that the WalkAide®

is experimental and investigational though it is FDA approved since 2006. Medicare does approve those diagnosed with incomplete spinal cord injury and the VA supplement for the WalkAide®. The WalkAide® costs $5,000 and it is prohibitive to some individuals.. The Freedom to Walk Foundation is raising funds for Jole Hope, 12 yrs. old, at their Charity Golf Event at Topgolf, Tampa. An Act of Kindness:: The Good Samaritan Jesus answered, “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. By chance a certain priest was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. In the same way a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he travelled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion, came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, and gave them to the host, and said to him, ‘Take care of him. Whatever you spend beyond that, I will repay you when I return.’ Now which of these three do you think seemed to be a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?” He said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.” — Luke 10:30–37, World English Bible

The Great Florida Outdoors: Moccasin Lake Dr. Robert Norman, Clinical Professor, Dermatology Nova Southeastern University

Located close to Highways 19 and 60 in Clearwater, Moccasin Lake is a wonderful 51-acre nature preserve that opened to the public in 1982. With more than an acre of natural and board-walked trails, a three acre watershed restoration area, and a five acre lake, you have plenty of sights to enjoy your day. Here you are given the opportunity to see a tremendous variety of native flora and fauna, along with birds such as ospreys and great egrets, gopher turtles, raccoons, American alligators, and butterflies. In the preserve are several injured birds of prey including rehabilitated bald eagles, hawks, vultures, and owls. Included are nature classes and programs in the Environmental Education Center, indoor and outdoor educational facilities, and zoological and energy conservation exhibits. I took a wonderful hike on a clear October afternoon. The trail winds its way under a canopy of mature oaks and across ponds and creeks to the edge of a stream that overflows into a more natural fern-edged run through the forest. The Cypress Trail, a side spur, leads to a bluff overlooking a large lake, where the Brigham Dock offers an observa-

tion point for watching wading birds. Both indoor and outdoor meeting spaces are available. The Park is the club meeting site for the Clearwater Audubon, Suncoast Herpetological Society, Suncoast Sierra Club, Clearwater Turtle and Tortoise Club of Florida, Bonsai Club, and others. Moccasin Lake is an ideal place to take the family for a gentle nature adventure. Sign of the Coming King Continued from Page 1

Revelation 12:1-2 says, “A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth. Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on its heads. Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth.” As in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Living in the mountains in a cave like a hermit, Doug Batchelor tells his story of how he went looking for God in his darkest hour. He later had a book published called “The Richest Caveman.” The book is a story of a broken man living in a cave, written in ten different languages that tells his story of how he was as far away from God as a person could ever be, until he was called into the marvelous light of Jesus Christ. Still, after 40 years, he says that he and Karen, his wife, still have a cabin in the hills to this day. Nevertheless, many people are still taking action of preparations of readiness because they believe that there is going to be a major meltdown or a catastrophic event. For years now, folks have treated this type of behavior as a fringe group. But now going beyond that, the Wall Street Journal published an article about 60% of mega-millionaires already having places where they can go during an event of some social meltdown, apocalypse, or Armageddon. They have become doomsday preppers. As the super rich have been buying up deactivated missile silos that are costing about 3 million dollars per level and have been selling out fast with their own water purification system, hydroponics farming, swimming pool, theater, a pharmacy, and even their very own jail.

Being cooped up underground with a bunch of millionaires, anything can happen! So it’s not just a fringe group that is thinking about some catastrophic event looming on the horizon. Hedge managers, multimillionaires and billionaires from Silicon Valley are making preparations for what they think is going to happen, one way or another, and they are taking self-preparation regardless of what others think. As we read further about the sign of the coming King, things should start to look a little bit clearer, because the coming of Jesus is not an afterthought when you turn to Revelations, the last book of the Bible. Revelation 1:7 says, “Behold He is coming with the clouds and every eye will see him, even those who pierced Him.” Revelation 14:41 says, “I looked and beheld a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man having on his head a golden crown.”

Here it’s talking about the second coming. Revelation 22:7 says, “Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” Know this is the last chapter in the Bible, but we’re not done yet. Revelation 22:20 says, “He who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming quickly.’” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

You’re probably thinking John wrote that 2,000 years ago, so God’s idea of quickly and our idea of quickly may not be the same, because we want fast food and think our microwaves are too slow. So why is it taking so long? In just a moment we’ll talk about that. So what can we know about the time of Jesus’ return? This is what we have to be careful about, when someone is giving you a date for the Lord to return. Matthew 24:36 says, “Jesus said, speaking of his second coming, ‘but out of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no not even the angels of heaven, but my Father only.’” So be careful when someone says they know the time and day of Jesus’ coming. Doug spoke of Harold Camping. A founder of many family Christian radio stations, he foretold the time of Jesus’ coming and picked the date of May 11, 2011. Some of us may still remember that day. Doug said he really did it to help the attendance of his seminar, but later in an interview said that’s not how you do it. On Fox News, Doug said, “Then I made him a offer. We’ll give you a million dollars to use right now, but if Jesus does not come on May 11, 2011, you sign over all your radio stations to us.” Well, of course, he didn’t do it, Jesus never came. Shortly afterward, he was devastated, and it made Christianity lose credibility, and this is why we have to be careful about setting dates. Because even Jesus did not know, but at the same time we need to live in a state of expectancy, and most Christians, as far as they’re concerned if you die, your next conscious thought is the resurrection and the second coming of Jesus. Even if you live to 90-100 years, compared to eternity our lives are pretty short. The Bible says a day with the Lord is like a thousand years. Because Jesus said no one knows the day or hour but we may be able to know when it’s near. Matthew 24:43 says, “He said when you see all these things know that it is near, even at the door.” Jesus gave us signs, he said to lift up your heads when you see these things because he wants us to be watching. Mark 13:35-37 says, “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do

not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’” So is Jesus talking about the second coming? He said watch, watch, watch, watch, four times because he wants us to be watching. In Matthew 25 he gives us the parable of the virgins waiting for the bridegroom. They fall asleep and are not ready. So he wants us to be thinking about these things as we talk about the return of the Lord and the closing promise in the Bible. So it is a good thing for Christians to talk about Jesus’ coming too! Regardless of who you are—rich, poor, disabled, or sick, Jesus should be the first step in preparation as a doomsday prepper. That is, to draw Him near. John 15:10 says, “If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.” Under the spell of Lucifer, human concerns are just a stumbling block for Christians who follow Jesus Christ. He will not continue to bless us if we move ourselves out from under God. If the nation is not under God, then what is it under? Self-interest? Prosperity? Power? No, if a nation is not under God, you can be sure that it is under judgment. Just as Adam and Eve had fallen under the spell of the serpent Lucifer, they surrendered their eternal life right out the Garden of Eden. Well, you know the story about the serpent? “Why did you bite me after I brought

you home and made you my pet? “I told you I was a snake.” In Matthew 16:23-25, “Jesus turned and said to Peter, ‘Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.’ Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.’” So we should think more on where are we going and where we want to be. God says, “I gave you the anchor of hope, my Son Jesus, to hold you firm to your faith when Lucifer’s evil spirits are at play. But until I come, be my disciple and pray. Use my words to call them out of darkness and into his marvelous light.” Our goal is to watch and be ready for the one who is coming to bring us to the place he prepared for us. Because he loves us so much, he gave us free will. You can choose or vote any way you like. But if you’re afraid, ask yourself “WWJD?” Watch! Pray! And be prepared!
