When you think about the way Jesus was born in comparative obscurity, he never did all the typical things that usually denote greatness. He never led an army or navy into battle. It doesn’t tell us that he ever wrote a book. He didn’t do any of the things that we typically think of as greatness. We don’t know what he looked like, though there are a lot of artists’ renditions of what we think Jesus looked like, and there’s nothing contemporary from this day. Yet he changed all of history around the world in the three and half years of his ministry. When we talk about biblical history, you have B.C and A.D. before Christ and after death, the year of our Lord. If you look in the encyclopedia or go to a museum of science, it doesn’t cast doubt on whether or not he lived. While Buddha and India might have had some profound sayings along with Krishna, Moham-

mad, and different religions of the world, nobody spoke like Jesus and none of them died as a sacrifice for the sins of the world. There’s something very clearly different about Jesus. None of the other religious leaders of the world said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” There are over 300 Old Testament prophecies that talk about what to expect when the Messiah comes. In the first prophecy, God was speaking to Adam and Eve after the fall in Genesis 3:15: “And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between thy seed and her seed. He shall bruise thy head, and he shall bruise his heel.” This promised seed came through humanity as the Messiah or Christ. In the New Testament, you will see that they

The Wise Men and the Star

Dr. Dan Coflin Pastor, River of Life Church Matthew chapter 2 records the story of the wise men that came to Jerusalem in the days of Herod. The reason for their journey was to find the new king of Israel. You see, they watched the night skies, and recently a star appeared which they had never seen before. They understood that stars represented kings and kingdoms, so surely this new star was a sign of a new king. They came from the East, presumably the region of Babylon. Their travels would have taken them a considerable length of time, for Babylon was nearly due east of Jerusalem but much of that land was an impassable desert. They would have had to follow the Euphrates River northward and then travel southward along the Jordan valley until they could have found their way again eastward to Jerusalem, a trip of some 500 miles. Herod had inquired of them when they first saw the star, to which they answered two years prior. Can you just imagine the preparations and cost for these mysterious men to travel that distance with an entourage of several hundred people? They would need servants to accommodate their needs and soldiers to protect their treasures from robbers along the way. The personal cost, the energy, and the effort required for them to make this journey was no small thing. What was it that prodded them to make this journey in the first place? A star. An unfamiliar star. Many have tried to identify this mysterious star. Some believe it was a passing comet and some a strange alignment of planets creating the illusion of a star. No one can be certain of just what it was, but certainly this bright light was not only visible for a con-

“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21

siderably long period of time, but it would disappear and then reappear, directing them from Babylon to Jerusalem and then to the little village of Bethlehem where Jesus was. The faith of these men was amazing. They were making this arduous journey because they believed a king had been born in Israel. Israel had not had a king for over 500 years. They were now ruled by Rome, and king Herod was in charge as the Roman proconsul. These wise men were looking for a king of a people who did not have a nation of their own. No one really knows who these wise men were, but they had faith a king had been born and they were determined to worship him and bring him gifts no matter what the cost. They didn’t understand why this newborn king was not in the palace of the ruler, but in the humble residence of a carpenter. They didn’t need to understand all the reasons things were as they were. They only needed to believe and then act on what they believed. This time of year, many of us will bring the boxes out of our attics and unload the plastic wise men, camels, and gifts and place them on our lawns. Maybe even a stable and a star will be among our ornaments, but will we consider the faith of the wise men? Will we travel to a place of worship where we can present our most valuable gifts to the King that was born in a stable? We might think we don’t have any real treasures to give a king, but faith is what pleases God. Born of a virgin, trained as a carpenter, filled with the Spirit, spoke as a prophet, died as a sacrifice, rose as a conqueror, and now rules as King, Jesus takes pleasure in our faith. Faith to come to Him and present our most valuable treasure—ourselves—in worship and surrender to His love and Lordship. Get the New Year Started in the Right Direction

Kathy Burke Kathy Burke Financial, LLC www.kburke.sswise.com 813-352-4060 The new year always gets us thinking about accomplishments in the past 12 months and goals for the next 12 months. What if you could not only set goals this year but also accomplish them? And how would you feel ending 2015 with a plan that directs you towards meeting more than just goals for 2015 but also 2016, 2017, 2030, and beyond? I’m taking about financial planning. Most people know they need a budget, an emergency fund, insurance, and proper asset allocation and diversification. But I’m talking about much more than that. I’m talking about comprehensive and cohesive planning that goes far beyond advice on how to invest money. A good plan also includes preserving and protecting what you have accumulated, as well as distribution strategies for the second phase of your life and desired wealth transfers at the end of life. Let’s take distribution planning for example. Many people think it is always best to delay tax deferred assets as long as possible. While this may be good advice to some, it does not apply to everyone. For example, your Required Minimum Dis-

tribution (RMD) on retirement assets may kick you into a higher tax bracket. A good planner will analyze this situation years in advance of your RMD to determine if you should start taking partial distributions early to avoid excessive taxes. These excessive taxes and many other financial pitfalls may be avoided if you plan ahead! Also, it is critical that financial planning not be approached in a vacuum. Sometimes a triggering event will result in the need or desire to address a singular issue. For example, you learn a friend has terminal cancer. This prompts you to buy life insurance and name your spouse beneficiary and your children contingent beneficiaries. Or you realize it is time to draft a new will and living trusts, ones that minimize federal estate taxes. Now you feel all is well. But is it? While you remembered to draft the will and trusts with appropriate provisions to minimize estate taxes, you did not do the same with your life insurance policy. Also, without properly titling your assets, your properly executed will and trusts are useless. Proper planning integrates many issues as they are interrelated, not single source issues. My goal for 2015 is to help others increase income and decrease expenses through proper planning techniques. Ultimately, my goal for 2015 is for all of us is to sleep better at night! Elves for Elders® Do you ever wonder what happened to that little old man you used to see in the park, or the eccentric lady who used to live down the block, or the developmentally disabled child you used to see in the neighborhood? Chances are they reached a point in their lives where they could no longer take care of themselves. Some can rely on their family to take care of them. Others are not so fortunate and ultimately become wards of the court and have to depend on a guardian to watch over their personal, medical, and financial needs. Those with sufficient assets to support themselves are typically appointed a private guardian whose fees are paid by the estate. Those with few or no assets are determined to be indigent and can fall under the guardianship of the Office of the Public Guardian. Aging Solutions, Inc. is the Office of the Public Guardian for Hillsborough, Pinellas, Brevard, Manatee, and Pasco Counties. Aging Solutions, Inc. is currently serving over 300 wards and has a waiting list in excess of 150 people. If the ward is living in a group home, assisted living facility, or nursing

home, Medicaid only allows them to keep $35 to $54 each month of any Social Security, pension, or other income they may receive. This is all they have to purchase their toiletries, undergarments, clothing, or anything else they may want or need. Needless to say, that amount doesn’t go very far. The Elves for Elders® Program, originated in 2002 by our Executive Director, Tamara Cribben and probate Judge Susan Sexton, benefits the individuals served by Aging Solutions, Inc. One hundred percent (100%) of all donations received go directly to the services and needs of our wards. The process to participate is simple. Fifth Third Bank & Rebuilding Together Fifth Third Bank (North Florida) recently joined forces with Rebuilding Together, a nonprofit that provides critical home repairs and renovations for low-income families, to refurbish the home of Robert Belle, a 72-year-old veteran who lives in Tampa. Fifth Third Bank employees worked with Rebuilding Together to restore Belle’s home by installing a new roof and completing other much-needed repairs. “There’s no more fitting way to celebrate and honor the contributions made by our military than by taking care of veterans,” said Brian Lamb, president and CEO, Fifth Third Bank (North Florida). “This association with Rebuilding Together enabled us to work together to positively impact local communities through these housing revitalization projects. We are grateful for the opportunity to give back to those who have served.”

The Tampa Bay volunteer effort was part of a larger initiative held on Nov. 6, in which nearly 400 employees from Fifth Third Bank across the nation participated. The bank donated $190,000 to Rebuilding Together for 14 projects in nine states. “We are grateful for Fifth Third Bank’s support and partnership while rebuilding these veterans’ homes,” said Charley Shimanski, president and CEO, Rebuilding Together. “Fifth Third’s commitment to creating and sustaining vibrant communities through local engagement helps further our mission of bringing volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners in need.” To find the nearest Fifth Third banking center, or for more information, visit www.53.com.

Lasting Weight Loss Success

Samantha Taylor Pure Health & Fitness Studios I am thankful for how blessed I have been to see so many women transform right before my eyes! I have been in this community for over 13 years and have trained over 4,000 women through my studio. It is such an honor to see all these women reclaim their health and get their bodies back. It really is amazing! I started personal training when I was 17. I just turned 40, and I have learned a lot about the key to having success with food, not only from all the women I have worked with but also because of the struggles I have had. My goal has always been to show people how to eat in a way they love so they don’t feel like they are dieting. That’s how you keep it off. It’s important to realize that fad diets, pills, shots, and gimmicks usually have their consequences, and we see it every day. When you lose weight, you want your focus to also be on how you’re going to keep it off. That’s an important question to ask since 95% of people gain it back. Studies show that the people that really keep it off are the ones that learn how to eat differently as a way of life. Not a temporary diet they are going to do just for a while but actually transforming how they eat into a way that is healthy and enjoyable. After helping women lose over 64 TONS of fat, I can tell you that enjoying your food is truly a key to lasting success. So how do you do that? You learn about nutrition, how to eat out, how to work with your body instead of against it, how to speed up

your metabolism and get your body moving so you can get fit and strong. What is the “secret” to true weight loss? There is no secret. It’s learning how to eat with how God created your body so it becomes easy and you are not always fighting against weight loss. I teach women how to be free from dieting, free from the legalistic calorie counting and free from always feeling deprived. Deprivation is one of the main reasons why people “fall off the wagon,” but if while you are losing weight, you LOVE the food you eat, you are not deprived. I eat the same way I tell my clients to eat, so that helps me give you some amazing, quick, tasty ideas. Some delicious popular foods I show clients how to eat are almond flour pancakes, lemon poppy seed muffins, and chocolate peanut butter fudge—all no sugar, no grains, and gluten-free. I am sure you have heard some of the talk about grains and sugar and how they are a main part of the cause of the decline of the health in this country. Well, we are ahead of the curve, and we show clients exactly how to eat that way and love it. I am very excited to say that we have been blessed to get our second location, and it is in Wesley Chapel (our first is on a lake, in Land O’ Lakes)! This new location will be open in January 2015, and we are so excited to be able to help more communities. It’s at 2653 Bruce B. Downs #205 across from Wiregrass. I encourage you, if you are serious this time about getting this weight off in 2015 and KEEPING it off, then take advantage of my 40% off for the first 40 members* promotion. This offer expires Dec 31st, so don’t wait until the new year. Call me for a consultation today at 813-377-3739 before I get my first 40 new members. I hope you have a Merry Christmas! The Most Magnificent Gift of All Continued from Page 1

were looking for a savior from the seed of a woman that would come to defeat the serpent who caused the fall of man and the loss of paradise, the Garden of Eden. When Jesus came to the Jordan River, he knew his time had come, and right at his 30th birthday he was baptized. John 1:29: “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin the world!” Jesus was that Lamb that they had been looking for. Isaac said to Abraham, “We have the wood for the fire, but where is the sacrifice?” Abraham said, “My son, God will provide it himself.” When Philip found Jesus, he went to tell Nathaniel. John 1:45: “We have found him of whom Moses wrote about in the law and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” In a validation of Jesus, the Pharisees challenged him. John 8:14-18 “Even if I testify on my behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I came from and where I am going. You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one. But if I do judge, my decisions are right because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me. In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two men is valid. I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me.” During the trial of Jesus, Pontius Pilate asked him, “Where you are from?” But Jesus gave him no answer. John 19:10-11: “‘Do you refuse to speak to me?’ said Pilate. ‘Don’t you realize I have the power to crucify you?’ Jesus answered, ‘You have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore, the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.’” From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jews kept shouting, “If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar!” Jesus was born in a very unique way as it was told in Genesis, Chapter 3, over 1,400 years before his birth through the seed of a woman. Isaiah 7:14: ”The Lord himself will give you a sign: behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and you shall call his name Emmanuel.” Mary was betrothed to Joseph before they came together, and she was found to be with child, the seed of the Holy Spirit, while traveling from Nazareth to Bethlehem. The word “Bethlehem” means house of bread, and you probably didn’t know that there are two Bethlehems. If you notice, it specifies the Bethlehem Ephrahah. This is where Rachel died giving birth to Benjamin, which was just outside Jerusalem where King Herod saw the wise men com-

ing and interrogated them, saying, “Where is the Messiah supposed to be born?” You never hear anything about the miracles of Jesus before he was 30. For the first 30 years of his life, he lived as a man among men, just as you and I, for a priest could not begin to teach until he was 30. King David did not begin to reign until he was 30. Joseph administrated over Egypt when was 30. When Jesus was anointed by John the Baptist, you never did hear anything about his miracles until he began his ministry, and where he quoted these very words in his hometown church of Galilee (Isaiah 61:1). Still today, in the three and a half years of his ministry, he turned the world upside down. Furthermore, it tells us that he would speak and teach in parables as King David said in Psalm 78:2-3: “I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old, which we have heard and known, as our fathers told us.” Matthew 27:3-7 tells how, during the trial of Christ, Judas was overwhelmed with a sense of guilt. Judas finally realized that he betrayed the son of God as they were preparing to crucify Jesus. Then as he went into the outskirts of the Temple where Jesus was being tried and the Sanhedrin was meeting, he said, “I’ve betrayed innocent blood,” and he threw down the 30 pieces of silver for the potter’s field (Psalm 22:16).

During a crucifixion, it was a standard practice to break their legs. Psalm 22:16: “The congregation of the wicked has enclosed me. They pierced my hands and my feet. They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.” This was prophesied almost 1,000 years before Jesus was born. Psalm 34:22: “He guards all his bones. Not one of them is broken.” They broke the bones of the thieves on the right and the left of Jesus because Jesus was the Passover lamb, and they were never to break the bones of a Passover lamb. They didn’t break any of his bones just as the prophecies had said: “He guards my bones.” From end of the Old Testament until the New Testament starts with Matthew, there are about 400 years of prophecies about the Messiah that Jesus would come. Three quarters of the way through the Bible there should be a page that says there were 400 years between the Old Testament and The New Testament, which doesn’t begin until the birth of Jesus. We know from the Dead Sea Scrolls that these things were written before Jesus was born. So how could you fabricate, counterfeit, or manufacture the prophecies after 400 years went from Zechariah to Matthew where Jesus would be betrayed by a friend for 30 pieces of silver who would then throw it to the potter’s field into the house of the Lord? C.S. Lewis puts it this way: “A man who was merely a man that would do the sort of things that Jesus did wouldn’t be a great moral teacher. He’d be a lunatic on the level of a man who says he’s a poached egg or else he would be the devil of hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was and is the son of God or else he was a madman or something worse.” Someone else put it this way: “Christ was either a

conscious deceiver, deluded, or divine. He is a lunatic, liar, or Lord. There is no escaping these three options.” Jesus lived for thirty three and a half years among men, and he said, “I want to show you how to live. How to love each other. I’m not just going to show you how to turn the other cheek; I’m going to show you how it’s done.” And he did, through his trial. I’m going to show you how to love and forgive each other the way he forgave us, uttering his last words on the cross: “Forgive them Father, for they do not know what they are doing.” Why is it you hear people using his name in profanity so frequently? You never hear people get mad and hit their finger with a hammer and say, “Oh Buddha, Allah, Krishna!” or cite Mohammad’s name in damnation. Why is there a diabolical focus to specially scorn the name of Jesus? That in itself should tell you there’s a spiritual battle out there. The world should know who Jesus is, and he came to show us what the Father is like. He said in John 14:9: “Have I been with you so long you don’t know me, Philip?” Jesus came to trade places with us, for we are all under a death sentence because of our sin and our selfishness. Christ does not want to lose us. He loves us, for he said, “I will come and I will take the pen-

alty for your sin. I will not only take it, I will give you my strength. I’m going to be your substitute and trade places with you.” He said, “I will give you my goodness and I will take your badness. I will give you my strength and will take your weakness. I will give you my life and take your death. Give you might and peace and take your suffering and your misery.” HE IS OFFERING IT ALL AS A GIFT BY FAITH! Martin Luther said, “In his death, he sacrifices himself for our sins. In his resurrection, he is a conqueror. In his ascension, he is a king. In his intercession, he is a priest. He is everything that we need.” In every volume of this book, it is written. When we see Abraham with Isaac, we see Jesus. When we see Moses leading a nation from slavery, we see Jesus. When we see Joseph forgiving his brothers for mistreating him, we see Jesus. We see Jesus in Samson when he stretches out his arms to defeat the enemy of God’s people. We see Jesus in Gideon, defeating the enemy with his small group. When I open up the Bible, all I see is Jesus everywhere. This book is all about him, and he wants you to know who he is! God became a man, and his name is Jesus. KNOWING HIM IS EVERLASTING LIFE! Publisher of the Gazettes (Ambassador for Christ)

Adjuster For Insurance

Most insurers focus their profits for the stockholder instead of the policyholder. Your claim that was underpaid or denied outright is very likely covered and you were not paid fairly or at all. Contractors that work with insurers to get you paid commit a felony and make you complicit also. A current example is roofing. Roofers say your roof was damaged by hail, but the roofer is getting your roof for his business. What about the insulation that got wet or the stains/mold on/in the ceilings/walls? They can’t help with that, but we can. We are state-licensed and available to assist you whenever there is a need for a home or business claim. By law, if we do not recover any more money than you have already received, then you owe us nothing. We are licensed professionals employed by the policyholder, skilled in all aspects of your claim, and will inspect your loss, analyze the data, review your coverages, write an estimate, and negotiate a fair settlement for you. If we get more money than you have received, how can you go wrong? Call us at AAA Claim Consultants, Inc. 813-969-1010 or check us out at www.3Aclaim.com.

Adventure Outfitters Holds Cleanup for Picnic Island Park

On Saturday, Nov. 8, Adventure Outfitters, a full-service dive center located in South Tampa, held its first annual Dive Against Debris Clean-Up Dive with Tampa Bay Green Consortium at Picnic Island Pier located at 7409 Picnic Island Blvd in Tampa, FL. The cleanup included 39 volunteers collecting more than 250 pounds of debris that had been dumped in and nearby the pier. Volunteers—including walkers, kayakers, data collectors, and divers—helped gather, analyze, and tally the debris. Afterwards, the results were sent to Project AWARE to become part of the continuing research on coastal marine debris to help change legislation and build knowledge on its impact. In addition to the trash picked up, the group also saw various aquatic wildlife.

“There were puffer fish, welks, manatees, and dolphins surrounding the area, and the wildlife was much healthier than we thought!” said Anna Blevins, owner and instructor for Adventure Outfitters and volunteer coordinator. “Although the pier area was cleaner than expected, we found that this may be due to currents that are sweeping the debris into the Gulf. Adventure Outfitters is currently working with Project AWARE and Tampa Bay Green Consortium on determining if the pier would be a good location for oyster domes or an artificial reef project.” In addition to helping clean the pier, volunteers competed for a prize for the pier’s most unique items and enjoyed a free lunch provided by the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA).

Items including kitchen tile, knives, fishing line, lures, cans, bottles, and other debris was found and lined up along the bank. “I grew up here in Tampa, so it is important to me to help keep the place I love clean and beautiful,” said Joe Smith, Operation Blue Pride volunteer, diver, and retired veteran. “There can never be enough people working to keep our oceans clean and healthy. That is part of the reason why I joined OBP and dive with Adventure Outfitters because besides training wounded vets to dive, we are also focused on conservation. What an amazing day!” “This project wouldn’t have been possible without our partners and all of the wonderful volunteers that came out to help!” Blevins said. “Thanks for supporting your community and stay tuned for our next cleanup and/
