Why is the Medical Symbol a Snake on a Stick?
There are actually two versions of the symbol known as a caduceus, and the stick is actually a staff that was carried by the Olympian god Hermes in Greek mythology. Hermes was a messenger between the gods and humans (which explains the wings). The image of serpents wrapped around a staff is a familiar logo in the medical field, decorating pharmaceutical packaging and hospitals alike, but snakes bites are generally bad news. The symbol of the medical profession being serpents might seem ill-fitting, but the ancient emblem actually has quite a story behind it. Moses’ Brass Serpent Made Into A Pole Once there was a time when a serpent made of brass made the difference between life and death
to thousands of people. In Exodus 5-10 you can read about Jehovah God who spoke to Moses, commanding that He and Aaron go to Pharaoh, the King of Egypt, to request three days to celebrate a festival in the wilderness. Moses said that, “If the Israelites won’t listen to me, how will Pharaoh ever listen to me, for I speak with difficulty?” God commanded him, “Go and perform a miracle by throwing down your rod before him and it will become a big snake.” But Pharaoh summoned his sorcerers who also did the same thing and Pharaoh’s heart was unresponsive even after the many magical miracles.

Learning to Pursue What Really Matters Years ago, I got to a place in my life where things were going pretty well. Dave and I had a good marriage, we were doing alright financially, our kids were saved, and our ministry was growing. Yet I still had this vague feeling of discontentment. Something was just not right on the inside. Have you ever felt that way? Maybe you’ve

seeking it. So spiritually speaking, I wasn’t a very deep person. I had my priorities backwards as many of us do at times. We want the money, the house, the promotion, or whatever that thing is. So we pursue that rather than the true treasure of God’s presence. Continued on Page 8

wondered, “What’s wrong with me?” like I did. Well, when I asked God that question, His answer to me was, “Joyce, you’re shallow. It’s time to step out into the deep.” I’m just telling you the truth: Bible teacher Joyce Meyers was a shallow Christian. Although I wanted all the “fruit” of God’s Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience—operating in my life, I wasn’t

The Well is a women’s Bible study ministry. Women from all denominations learn and grow in their personal walk with God and develop leadership skills through Bible study and mentoring. The Well Bible Study Ministry offers Bible studies throughout the year. The spring session begins February 7-9, 2017 and women can choose from 7 powerful studies:
By Karen McBride
Becoming a Woman Whose God is Enough When we feel unhappy and restless, we need to be reminded that God is enough, and He wants a closer relationship with us. John’s Letters: Discovering Genuine Christianity We can learn through studying John’s letters how to develop beliefs and qualities in ourselves by obeying God’s word, loving one another, and focusing our attention on what really matters in life. Boundaries We need to set personal boundaries to help protect ourselves from being overtired which will affect our thoughts and emotions and keep us from living a fruitful life. Overcoming the Enemy Satan attacks us in all areas of our lives. We need to prepare ourselves for these attacks in order to overcome the enemy. Raising Grateful Kids in an Entitled World This study will help us to cultivate a spirit of obedience and gratitude in our children.
Disunity in Christ This study encourages diversity by dismantling the categories that divide us in order to advance His Kingdom. Disciples Are Made, Not Born This study is strongly recommended for women currently in ministry as a mentor, accountability group leader, small group leader, ministry leader, or Bible study teacher. There is no charge for attending the Bible studies other than the cost of purchasing the books pertaining to a particular study. However, The Well is a donation-supported ministry, and the expectation is that women who are benefitting from the ministry would contribute financially if possible. Child watch is available during all of the Bible studies (donation supported). The Well meets at the First Baptist Church of Lutz, located at 18116 N US Highway 41 Lutz, FL 33549. Radical Change
Dr. Dianne Coflin Co-Pastor, River of Life Church Are you ready for a radical change? To have a radical change in one’s life means to have a new thorough, major, complete, comprehensive new course of something different from what it would be left alone. Are you open to the Spirit of God invading your life with something new? Sometimes in order for God to invade us with change we have to be open, willing to let go, or take a step back in order to go forward. Maybe a radical change in your life might be to embrace something so different that you even have to lay down your own formed opinions and embrace a change in the way you are thinking. In Genesis 13:1 it says Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot went with him. Abram had been in Egypt because of a famine. Egypt was to be in a place of confinement, to feel cramped and distressed. One day he made a decision: “I am going to leave this place.” Maybe you have to make a decision such as Abram did. Decisions can be so important. To decide means a conclusion or resolution reached after consideration.
In order for radical change to take place, conclusions must be drawn and decisions made. Proverbs 3:5-6, a familiar passage of scripture says, “Always trust the Lord completely, and do not think that your own wisdom is enough. Remember the Lord in everything that you do. If you do, He will show you the right way to go.” Sometimes having a radical change isn’t necessarily in having to relocate to a new location as Abram did, but a new place of thinking that gives you a fresh new outlook. I believe that the Lord is saying that whatever circumstances you may feel you are in that elicit a feeling of confinement or stress, He has another way. He asks us to realize our own wisdom is not enough but to acknowledge Him and He will reveal His way to take. 2017 is going to be a year of radical change. Are you up for it? You may need some help along the way!! Food for thought! We invite you to come join us at River of Life Church in Lutz, Florida. Our services begin at 10:30am on Sundays. We would love to see you! Valentine’s Day: One of America’s Most Popular Days
There’s no doubt that Valentine’s Day is one of America’s most popular days. More than 62% of Americans celebrate by sending greeting cards, flowers, candy, jewelry, or by enjoying a romantic dinner. But the origin of Valentine’s Day is surprising. For example, the roots behind Valentine’s Day go all the way back to an ancient Roman fraternity fest held in mid-February called Lupercalia. Later, the Christian church chose mid-February for Saint Valentine’s Day in order to Christianize the celebration, but who was St. Valentine? Not much was known about the holiday’s namesake. First of all, there was more than one such Christian priest. One thought it was unjust and defied the Emperor and continued to marry young lovers in secret. Emperor Claudius II banned marriage for young Roman men, thinking single men made better soldiers Eventually, the Emperor caught on to the priest’s actions, and he was arrested and sentenced to death. Pope Gelasius declared February 14th as the date honoring Valentine’s Day near the end of the 5th century. It wasn’t until the 1300’s that the holiday became associated with love and romance. Back then, people believed that February
14th also was the beginning of the birds’ mating season. The first written Valentine greeting appeared in the 15th century, and by the 17th century people in Great Britain had begun a tradition of exchanging Valentine cards or letters. Valentine’s Day soon caught on in the U.S. as well. The first mass-produced holiday cards emerged in 1840, and Valentine’s Day soon exploded into a major consumer holiday. Today, an estimated 1 billion Valentine cards are sent each year, more than any other holiday except for Christmas. More than 35 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate are sold, and 220 million roses produced for the holiday in a year. Altogether, Americans spend around $20 billion on Valentine’s Day, an average of $130 dollars per person per year. While the most popular gifts were candy and flowers, nearly 20% of Americans splurge on jewelry, shelling out $4 billion annually. Those who prefer the ultimate romantic gesture are definitely not alone. A recent survey reveals at least six million couples are likely to get engaged on February 14th. http://www.history.com/videos/historyof-valentines-day#bet-you-didnt-know-valentines-day
A Light in the Darkness Pasco Raises Awareness of Human Trafficking Anne Childers, Staff Writer TThe Second Annual Light Up The Night Event held January 14th at The Shop at Wiregrass was attended by an estimated 1200 residents and supporters. The event was presented by the David Maus Foundation in partnership with the Pasco Sheriff’s Office, the Pasco Free Network, and approximately 50 sponsors—both individuals and businesses—with special thanks to the Word of Life Bible Institute. Over 200 runners participated in the Radiant 5k Run prior to the family-friendly event which featured entertainment, education, awards, and a candlelight vigil. When the last light had flickered out, $8,000 had been raised for each of the four beneficiary organizations dedicated to helping victims of human trafficking—a tremendous success!!! Sadly so much more is needed to rescue victims and help restore their broken lives. Human trafficking is a nationwide problem with California, Texas, and Florida ranking as the top three destinations for victims. On January 1, 2017, California began enforcing Senate Bill 1322 to decriminalize prostitution for minors by preventing police from arresting anyone under 18 for soliciting sex. Supporters of this bill say it prevents trafficked victims from incurring a police record while detractors say it protects the criminal
and prevents the victim from being rescued. Corporal Alan Wilkett, of the Pasco Sheriff’s Office notes Pasco County already decriminalizes victims and strives to obtain rehabilitative services. “The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office has programs and tools in place to break the bonds of trauma and Stockholm Syndrome, but those tools do not come easily, or quickly, or without tremendous financial and human cost. Rescue is only the first step,” explains Wilkett. Please get involved. Ask yourself how your organization or place of worship can make a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable citizens. If you think you have come into contact with a victim of human trafficking, do not become involved personally, but do call one of the professional services trained to recognize and rescue victims. The National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888, The U.S. Department of Justice Hotline at 1-888-428-7581, the Florida Abuse Hotline at 1-800-96-ABUSE (22873), the local Clearwater/Tampa Bay Area Task Force Hotline at (727) 562-4917 or 911. One of the things I love about what I do is I get to see the extreme difference in a woman—who she is before she does our program and after. It truly is amazing! Let me tell you about Kate, for this is such an amazing story of how a woman’s life is impacted. When I first met Kate she was not happy. Actually, she was pretty grumpy because she had lost hope. She was 64, had gained and lost the same weight many times, hadn’t worked out in 40 years, and had really just given up. As I told her about our programs and the results she could get, I could tell she wanted to believe but was so beaten down by her past failures that it was hard for her to. After we talked about the options, she looked at me with a stern look on her face and said, “I don’t know if this is going to work but I am going to give it a try because you sure seemed convinced that you can help me.” I still smile when I think of that day because of who she is now, compared to who she was. It is quite miraculous and I am so proud of her. About 6 months after she joined, she attended one my seminars. She ran up to me beaming from ear to ear and practically tackled me, hugging me so hard she almost cracked me half! She said, “I just have to tell you how much you have changed my life!”
She could not stop smiling! She grabbed my arm and said to me, “I just have to thank you. You have given me my life back!” As tears started to swell up in her eyes, she said, “I have lost 41 lbs. and 5 sizes! I have SO much energy, I don’t even know what to do with it and I love to exercise now after 40 years of not doing it! Thank you!!!” As she stood to the side and opened her jacket she said, “Look how flat my stomach is now! I used to look pregnant!” I exclaimed my absolute excitement for her as she gave me another huge hug. She has now lost 51 lbs. THAT is why I do what I do because I love to see women’s lives impacted. She was so transformed I asked her to be a guest on our TV show that we have on ABC once a month. She was thrilled but nervous and she did a great job! It was so cute because on the show she said, “My husband says he has wife back now! He says that I am the happy, energetic woman he fell in love with and he is so glad to see me happy again. I can’t even tell you what this program has meant to me and my life. I feel and look 20 years younger and I know I will keep it off this time and that feels wonderful.” The difference between her previous situation and her having an amazing transformation was that she took action. That is the key for many reading this article as well. If you really want to get results, you need to take action and do something different then you have been doing. A good place to start is to do what Kate did and set up a Body Transformation Analysis to see how we can help you. Go to www.SamanthaTaylorFitness.com.

Garden Connect at White Dove Farm By Steve & Jeanne Wolfe
We hope you had a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season. Personally, we had a very stressful time, but yet we were able to overcome many obstacles with help. While you were enjoying mild weather here in Florida, we were chilled in more ways than one. My momma moved from planet Earth to planet heaven in December. I guess I am now spoiled even though I’m from a colder climate. It is always good to come home. My momma, I know, is home and happy to be with her family. She saw great changes in history during her life (she would have been 90 years old)—our family had owned acreage in Bluegrass, Virginia where an old-fashioned chapel stands. The old chapel served as a hospital during the Civil War for both sides. It was a vital comfort in that area. This was Great-Great Grandfather Snyder’s era and they were farmers and sheep herders. We are commencing to repair and clean up our property, finish off some projects, and looking forward to early plantings. We heard through the grapevine that the store named Bravo in Dade City had some tropical produce including breadfruit. Check it out! We certainly will. We will host a garden tour at White Dove Farm February 1st for the Orange Blossom Garden Club from Lutz, and they regularly meet at the Lutz recreation center. We encourage you to check out garden clubs which meet in many areas of every town. Some are co-ed. Jeanne joined a garden club in North Tampa (North Tampa Garden Club) twenty years ago, and she became more enthusiastic and motivated in gardening which sparked all those around her. Jeanne and I are announcing that March 18, Saturday at 3:30pm will be our next Garden Connect meeting. Don’t forget to RSVP us at 813-991-9786 (home) or 813-618-0646 (cell), or email whtdovefarm@yahoo.com. A reminder: we have a ramp for those who need this assistance to enter the front porch. Those who live in an assisted living facility will be blessed to get out and meet new friends.
An Act of Kindness: The Good Samaritan
Jesus answered, “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. By chance a certain priest was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. In the same way a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he travelled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion, came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, and gave them to the host, and said to him, ‘Take care of him. Whatever you spend beyond that, I will repay you when I return.’ Now which of these three do you think seemed to be a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?” He said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.” —Luke 10:30–37, World English Bible

The Biblical View of Debt and Borrowing James H. Willis, III Founder and President The Willis Agency, Inc 813-948-9109 Jim@TheWillisAgency.com www.TheWillisAgency.com 1 Peter 5:7 Oh boy, this is either bad timing or good timing today! Our topic in this issue of Biblical Finances is on Debt and Borrowing—and right after Christmas, too. Sorry folks. Honestly, if you went into debt a lot for Christmas, I think you should speak with God about that. He may help you realize your priorities, especially if you are increasing your debt and probably your burden in this life. Hey, don’t be one of those people that complain to God about your finances and shortness of money if you are the one overspending. That’s not God’s fault, now is it? Yes, I know this whole topic is counterculture. All the TV commercials, ads in the newspapers, popups on our phones and computers—it’s non-stop!! But you and I must control ourselves from “spontaneous spending.” We must!! It is the foundation of all of our finances. It really doesn’t matter how much you make in itself because it also includes your spending. Here is a good phrase I actually learned back in the 80’s when I was being ordained: “If your outgo is more than your income, then your upkeep will be your downfall.” Simple really—don’t spend more than you make. Don’t do it, it really hurts you. Borrowers are always “indebted” to the lender. No one knows what is going to happen tomorrow and to presume on the future is very risky. Albert Einstein once referred to “compounding interest” as the eighth wonder
of the world. When we reverse the positive growth of interest to the negative growth of interest owed, it becomes a ravaging beast attacking our home. I’d like to end with the 7 Principles of Debt and Borrowing: 1) Borrowing in itself is not a sin. 2) Borrowing may deny God an opportunity to show up. 3) Borrowing always presumes on the future. It is not guaranteed. 4) Having debt with the inability to repay on a timely basis is bondage. 5) Debt is almost always symptomatic of a spiritual problem. 6) When we borrow on consumptive wants, it will sentence one to a reduced lifestyle. What takes 6 months to get into debt will take 6 years to get out of debt. The future will be limited in its freedoms. 7) Husbands and wives must be in perfect agreement regarding borrowing. I haven’t always done it right, but when I do, it is a very powerful feeling and a pleasurable lifestyle. If we can use our personal disciplines, we will experience personal delight, and we can do this with God’s help. Caring for you and yours, Jim Verses for reference: Proverbs 22:7, James 4:13-15, Proverbs 22:26 & 27, Luke 14:28 & 16:11

Lighthouse Receives Grant
Sylvia Perez, Lighthouse CEO, receives the Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring award check from Chrissy Bond, Volunteer & Development Coordinator, during a gathering of Lighthouse Independent Living Skills clients.
The Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind has received a generous grant from the Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring to cover the cost of an Independent Skills Living program to be provided to a group of up to 10 Pasco County adults and seniors. The Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring is a charitable, non-profit organization that helps to fund programs for children, families, and individuals in need and at risk living in Hillsborough and Pasco counties. This is the second grant received from the Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring, which is both humbling and exciting according to Sylvia Perez, Lighthouse’s CEO. “This grant not only makes a real impact on the people it serves, we benefit from the Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring’s holistic approach to giving—which includes increased awareness and volunteerism.” The Lighthouse’s Independent Living Skills Program helps adults and seniors who are visually impaired or blind with acquiring the adaptive skills and technical devices they need so they are able to live safely in their homes, care for their families, and take care of their basic needs. Vision loss can result in
emotional and physical isolation and injury, and for those of working age, it can lead to unemployment. Adults and seniors who experience vision loss often become isolated as a result of the inability to drive, read, or use the telephone adequately. In addition, they often experience health issues or unsafe situations due to difficulties shopping, preparing meals, managing medication, and many are prone to falling. To learn more about the Lighthouse, please visit www.lvib.org. The Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring was formally organized in 2005 after a long history of informal community giving. The Foundation started by helping five local non-profit organizations and now has assisted over 90+ organizations in Pasco and Hillsborough counties. The Lighthouse appreciates the Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring’s assistance with the Independent Living Skills program that provides much needed services to adults and seniors who are visually impaired and blind living in Pasco County. From Abortion to Eternal Life When 17-year-old Lacey learned she was pregnant, she knew the only course of action was abortion. She sought out Oasis to learn more getting one. The volunteer client educator listened to Lacey compassionately and walked her through all the options, but Lacey hardened her heart to all choices except abortion. At the end of the session the volunteer asked Lacey if she could pray with her, and when she agreed, something shifted. Lacey felt it as she was prayed over, and although she’d never been to church before and didn’t believe in God, she felt something. The day before her scheduled abortion,
Lacey knew she couldn’t do it. That prayer had changed her heart, and she reached back out to Oasis for more support. Lacey opened her heart to the Lord, gave birth to her baby, and now she and her family are serving God. Lacey’s baby’s life was saved and so was Lacey’s—eternally. Stories like these are common at Oasis Pregnancy Care Center. We are making a difference for the kingdom and we need your help! If God is leading you to minister life, Oasis will train you. All it takes is one fourhour shift per week. Call Anita Albert-Watson at 813-406-4965 for more information.

Two Opportunities to Give in February at Pasco Tax Collector’s Office
Tax Collector Mike Fasano announces that the tax offices in Pasco County will be promoting one of two charities that customers are invited to support during the month of February. The two organizations are Restored Hope and Pack-a-Sack for Kids – One Community Now’s 2017 Hunger Walk. Restored Hope is a non-profit organization that is based in Dade City and serves residents of East Pasco, in particular those who are homeless, on the verge of being homeless, or are otherwise in need of immediate help. The tax collector offices in Dade City, Wesley Chapel and Land O’ Lakes will be collecting donations for Restored Hope. “I urge customers to drop their spare change in our collection jars or make a larger donation when they stop by our office in February,” encourages Tax Collector Mike Fasano. “Both Restored Hope and Pack-a-Sack
for Kids – 2017 Hunger Walk are respected ‘where the rubber meets the road’ type of organizations. They meet people’s needs in a practical way. The funds they collect stay here in Pasco and serve those who could very well be our friends and neighbors.” For more information about Restored Hope, please contact Penny Morrill, Community Outreach Coordinator, by phone at 352-437-4815, by email at penny@restoredhopefl.org, or visit online at http://www.restoredhopefl.org. Why is the Medical Symbol a Snake on a Stick? Continued from Page 1
God then said, “How long will you refuse to submit to me? Send my people away so that they may serve me. I will strike you and your people with a devastating plague.” This came to pass, and finally Pharaoh said to Moses, “Get out of my sight! Make sure that you do not try to see my face again, for on the day you see my face, you will die.” Moses said, “I will not try to see your face again.” Free from a life of slavery and bondage, Moses led the people of Israel to a new home in the beautiful land of Canaan. Moses was chosen by the Lord to lead his people and promised to take care of all their needs along the way. Canaan wasn’t far away, but if the people wanted to reach it, there was one thing they would have to remember: that God had set before them a promise to bless them if they obeyed Him, or to curse them if they disobeyed, and how important it was that they obey Him to trust Him in this journey. When the people came to Kadesh Barnea and pitched their camp in the desert of Zin, a new life of freedom and plenty was almost in their reach. Then the people of Israel did something that cost them 40 years of delay and wandering in the wilderness—they refused to go on to the promised land. They even threatened to choose their own leader and go back to Egypt. Taking possession of Canaan was a harder job than they wanted, and they didn’t believe God’s promise to help them. So because of their rebellion of unbelief, God spoke to Moses and said, “These men who have seen my glory and miracles and yet have not listened to my voice shall not see the land which I swore unto their fathers. Only their children will I bring into the land.” Turning their backs on God only multiplied their trouble, such as finding water and food, for the people and animals were desperately thirsty and began to think it was Moses’ fault. They said, “Why did you ever have us leave Egypt? We would rather be slaves with food and water than be in this terrible place.” So Moses went to the Lord with the people’s complaints, and God told Moses just what to do. “Gather the people together and speak unto the rock before their eyes and it shall give forth water so the people and animals can drink.”
People gathered together at the great rock and Moses struck it with his rod which caused a stream of water to gush out of the rock. Water wasn’t the only problem, though. As they tried to move on, directly in their path ahead was the stronghold of the Edomites. Fierce warriors swooped down on all who dared to come near. So Moses sent messengers to the King of Edom saying, “Let us pass through your land, we pray, and we promise not to go through your fields or drink water from your wells. We will go by the King’s highway.” The king
answered, “If you set one foot on my land I will come out against you with the sword.” So Moses led the people away from Midian till they came to Mount Hor, but here they faced even greater danger. The army of the Canaanites came swarming down on the Israelites, and the people turned to God in their need to win a terrible battle, and again God gave Israel victory. Yet in spite of all the evidence of God’s mercy and goodness in helping them, they still would not trust their lives to God’s care. As they continuing their journey around the kingdom of Edom, the Israelites began to murmur. They grumbled to each other that they were tired of traveling and searching for water and they even complained about the manna which God sent from heaven to eat.

They not only said mean thing about Moses, but this time they spoke against God, and the time had come for God to teach the people that rebellion is sin and the penalty for sin is death. Suddenly their punishment came upon them as deadly serpents swarmed upon the people and there seemed to be no escape. Many Israelites were dying from the fiery serpents, and the purpose of this was to teach these people the results of sin and to bring them back to trust in Him. At last the people came to Moses saying, “We have sinned greatly against you and have spoken against the Lord. Oh pray to the Lord to take away the serpents.”

Learning to Pursue What Really Matters Continued from Page 1
So Moses prayed for the people unto the Lord what to do. God said, “Make the fiery serpent of brass and set it upon a pole. Everyone that was bitten can look upon it and shall live.” And it happened just as God said. And those who looked upon the brazen serpent lived because they believed what God had said and turned to Him in faith for forgiveness. But those who turned away died because they did not believe God and rebelled against Him. As God provided for the Israelites a way to be free from the penalty of their sins, God has provided a way for us to be forgiven of our sins. When Jesus died on the cross of Calvary to pay the penalty for our sin, the real meaning of the serpent of brass became clear. John 3:14-15 says, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” h t t p s : / / w w w. y o u t u b e . c o m / watch?v=Omx3OfZxeKk
But just like a tree needs deep, wide-reaching roots in order to support big, strong branches that can withstand the harsh elements of the outdoors, Christians need to be deeply rooted and grounded in the Word of God. It’s His love that sustains us—not our “stuff.” Don’t get me wrong. It’s okay to want nice things. But there’s a difference between desiring them and seeking them—and that’s something we’d be wise to focus on each day of our lives. What are you seeking in life? The word “seek” is an extremely strong word. It means “to crave, to pursue, to make sacrifices to get or to go after something with all of your strength and all of your heart.” There are only a handful of things the Bible actually tells us to seek, including God Himself, the kingdom of God, righteousness, peace, and love. Never once does it say we should pursue temporary, earthly things. Every now and then, I think it’s a good idea to do a little soul searching and ask yourself, “What am I seeking?” In other words, what do you spend most of your time doing? What do you talk about the most? What are you putting most of your energy into? If you realize that you’ve been chasing things rather than God Himself, I encourage you to visualize your final hours. I know it’s not particularly pleasant to imagine, but if we just think realistically about what that day would look like, it might help us change
the way we spend today. How will putting God first change your day? If you have a strong inner life—that is, you know who you are in Christ and you know that you’re right with God—then what goes on around you doesn’t have to matter all that much. In fact, it’s amazing what you can go through with a smile on your face! You can be hurting pretty badly yourself and yet have a deep desire to help other people. That’s when we know we’re mature sons and daughters of God—when our life isn’t wrapped up in what we want, what we think, and how we feel. Instead, we’re wrapped up in what God has done in our lives and how we can help grow His kingdom while we’re still here on this earth. You and I can still have a lot of “stuff,” but there’s nothing more valuable in this life than knowing God loves us and that we’re right with Him. I believe that during our final hours, that’s what we’ll find to be truly important. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.” When you chase after God and make Him your first priority, then you’ll really get to know Him and He’ll give you the things that are right for you at the right time and in the right way. I’ve been a shallow person and I know what it’s like to need something deeper. I want to encourage you to really chase after God. Live each day of your life pursuing what really matters. Don’t spend your whole life in the shallow waters wrapped up in what you want, think, and feel. Let Him be first in your life—and you’ll soon discover it’s the most amazing way to live! www.joycemeyer.org

New Law Expands Comprehensive Care NP-Owned Diabetes and Primary Care Office Opens A new primary care and diabetes practice has opened its doors in north Tampa and is accepting new patients. New laws that went into effect January 1, 2017 loosen practice and prescribing restrictions for nurse practitioners. The new center, Your Best You, P.A., is lo-
cated at 15511 North Florida Avenue, Suite 502, Tampa, Florida 33613 and is owned by Shani V. Davis, Ph.D., ANP-BC, CDE, a Tampa nurse practitioner. Evidence suggests that nurse-delivered care is associated with improved patient health related self-care behavior as well as greater chronic disease prevention and control.

LAWN CARE
Under God’s Control
By David Wilkerson
In these last days, the Lord’s eye is not fixed on world powers but on the church of Jesus Christ. God is not focused on the economy, on the rise of world religions, on the roaring of the heathen. According to Isaiah, the nations are to God “as a drop of a bucket” (Isaiah 40:15). They are all under His sovereign rule and reign. God knows all about terrorist threats, wars and rumors of wars. His Word warns that the heathen will rage, secular powers will try to outlaw Christianity, and fast-growing, anti-Christ movements will boast they’ll rule the world and destroy Jesus’ followers. The Bible says this about it all: “The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us” (Psalm 2:2–3). In short, “Let’s cast away all moral hindrances, all moral landmarks of the past.” Here is God’s reaction to these earthly powers and demon-influenced men: “He that sitteth in the heav-
ens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision” (2:4). No matter how desperate things look, everything remains under God’s full control. I’m thankful for this word from the Psalms. More and more, we hear reports of secularism wiping out the evangelical church in Europe; of Islam being the fastest growing religion in the world; of homosexuals hijacking entire denominations; of Christ’s church growing so weak it no longer has any impact on society. Yet God’s Word declares, “On Christ the Rock God will build His church.” “The gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). Nothing from the bowels of hell can hope to destroy Christ’s church. His eye is always on His people, and through everything He warns Satan and his hordes, “Do not touch the apple of My eye.” “Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake” (Isaiah 54:15). Do you see what God is saying here? “The devil is going to come at you. Enemies out of hell will gather together against you. But Satan will not succeed.”

Pure Health & Fitness Studios Samantha Taylor “I’ve been one of their longest-running advertisers for thirteen years and have been absolutely amazed with my experience. This paper has been the BIGGEST factor God has used for my success as a Personal Trainer and Weight Loss Expert. Thanks to THIS paper, it’s contributed to me successfully training over 4,500 women. Even though I got calls from day one, the thing I’ve been lately amazed with is how many loyal readers this paper has. I get calls from people that have been reading my articles for years and since they are now ready to get in better shape and better health, they call me because I’ve been the trusted source they’ve seen for so many years in THIS paper. Even in tough times, I’ve never, nor will I ever, stop advertising in this paper. It’s been a tool that has built my business to be one of the most successful Personal Training Studios around. Thank you, Dunndeal Publications! I wouldn’t have done it without you!”
