How to Keep the Sabbath By Doug Batchelor
What does the Bible mean by keeping the Sabbath? Christ had a number of conflicts that are written in the Gospels. He never said you shouldn’t keep it. He just told us how to keep it. This was a very important subject because scripture has been neglected by much of Christianity. I had a pastor friend say to me one day, “Brother Doug, why are you making a big deal about the Sabbath day? I know you worship God on the Sabbath day. But I worship God every day!” “But I too worship God every day also. It’s not just about worship.” “You’re right,” he said. “You’re also supposed to rest.” And I replied, saying, “But if you rest every day, you’re not just being holy, you’re just being lazy. What we’re talking about are different things.” In 1924, Eric Liddell was a dedicated Christian and he was a very fast runner, so fast that he was chosen to represent his country, France, to run in the Olympics of 1924 in the 100 meter event. But after he got there, they were having final time trials and it just happened to be on Sunday, and he said, “I cannot participate in this.” So they asked him why, and he said because the Sabbath was a holy day and as a devoted Christian, he could not run. All of a sudden the team and the country were put in a great quandary about what to do. So they brought in the church leaders to try to pressure him to run, saying, “Eric, it’s the Olympics, just do this once. God will understand.” Eric said, “It’s a holy day, and I’m not going to compromise it.”

Presentation of the Ark of His Covenant All of these Old Testement “Types and Shadows” are where the Spirit of God hid the New Testement and is explained in the Apostles’ writings. With this being established emphatically by the Book of Hebrews, we go on into the most holy and important of illustrations that God Himself established, The Ark of His Covenant. The second-most important aspect of the Ark is that it is not just a part of the Old Testament because
it was built by Moses. In fact, it is truly appointed as a New Testament object and teaching. The reason being was that the first sets of tablets, “the Ten Commandments” were never placed in the Ark of the Covenant. That set began with this statement: (Ex 20:2) “I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.”

How to Maintain Christian Victory in Today’s Fallen World
Dr. Douglas Wingate, Ph.D. Life Christian University Have you ever played the party game of telling a secret from one person to the next, and then compare what the final person heard with what the first person said? The results are sometimes hilarious. But when it comes to passing on what God meant when he said something to a succession of people for several thousand years, the final results can be spiritually catastrophic. That is why it is so important to find out to the best of our ability what God said in the original language. The Bible says in Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth.” In simple terms, he created the known universe. But you have to read to the end of the chapter to find out why He created this universe. You see, God had already created an angelic family, and that ended with disappointment. One third of them followed their leader, Lucifer or Satan, in a rebellion against God, trying to usurp his throne and authority. But God had something very special in mind. He wanted to create a human family that was exactly like him. Now consider this, God, knowing his own eternal nature, wanted to create a family that would satisfy His every need for that same eternity. In other words, God’s human family is His dream come true. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in His own image. In the image of God He created him. Male and female He created them.” Now any Sunday school student can tell you what happened next. The first man, Adam, God’s dream come true, failed and fell from
His grace. But God was never caught off guard. He wasn’t surprised because he gave man a free will, and God already had the plan in place to redeem His family. Jesus, who would be His own son, conceived in the womb of a woman, without the sin nature of fallen man, would come and be the last Adam. He would be the one who could make the miraculous exchange of His righteousness for mankind’s sinfulness. In His death on the cross, all of humanity would die with him. In his burial, all of mankind would go with Him. But when the claims of justice were satisfied against Him, all of mankind would have the claims of justice against them satisfied too. When Jesus was raised from the dead He took all of mankind with Him. When He was raised up again to Heaven to take His place at the right hand of the Father, all of humanity was elevated and seated with Him as well. Now this is what Jesus did in the realm of the Spirit, and so it does not benefit any human unless they accept the free gift of God’s grace by faith. But that is done in an instant when a human simply believes that God raised Jesus from the dead for their benefit and then receives Jesus as the Lord of their own life. Then the Holy Spirit moves into the human’s spirit and they are then a sealed a member of God’s eternal family. You now get the benefit of being God’s dream come true. He will be delighted with you for all of eternity. This marvelous story is born out in an excellent paraphrase translation of the New Testament call the Mirror Word. The Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 1:19 and 20, “I pray that you will understand beyond all comparison the magnitude of His mighty power at work in us who believe. Faith reveals how enormously advantaged we are in Christ. It is the same dynamic energy that He unleashed in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and forever established Him in the power of his own right
hand in the realm of the heavens.” Ephesians 2:6 continues with God’s thoughts through Paul: “As much as we were co-included in His death, we are co-included in His resurrection. We are also elevated in His ascension to be equally present in the throne room of the heavenly realm where we are coseated with him in His executive authority. We are fully represented in Christ Jesus.” Now with this understanding about our new position in Christ, the secret to victorious Christian living can be found in Paul’s letter to the Colossians in chapter 3:1-3. “See yourselves co-raised with Christ! Now ponder with persuasion the consequence of your coinclusion in Him. Relocate yourselves mentally! Engage your thoughts with throne room realities where you are co-seated with Christ in the executive authority of God’s right hand. Becoming affectionately acquainted with throne room thoughts will keep you from being distracted again by the earthly (soul-ruled) realm. Your union with His death broke the
association with that world. See yourselves located in a fortress where your life is hidden with Christ in God.” In the world that we are surrounded by, with its lost condition, not knowing what God has done for them through Christ, our victory comes by immersing ourselves in His kingdom, allowing His presence and anointing to permeate everything about our lives. Then we are kept in peace that passes all understanding, and when we share this incomparable good news about our Lord, it goes out under the anointing of Heaven. It will have its greatest impact that way. Be blessed. Dr. Douglas J. Wingate, President and Founder of Life Christian University www.lcus.edu 410 E. Chapman Rd. Lutz, FL 33546 813-909-9720

How a Woman Finally Gets Results Samantha Taylor Pure Health & Fitness Studios There is such power in what we believe we can accomplish. I have always heard, “If you believe you can, you are right. If you believe you can’t, you are right.” After training 5,000 women, I have truly learned that the women that get amazing results have a few things in common: 1) She is fed up with where she is at—it is no longer acceptable to her. 2) She takes responsibility for where she is but also for where she wants to be with her body. 3) She sets her mind to do something about it. 4) She understands the power of getting focused on her end goal. 5) She doesn’t make excuses for why she isn’t getting results. 6) She takes action and feels empowered by that action. 7) She sees the value in getting help when she is not having success on her own. 8) She knows when she looks in that mirror, the person looking back at her is the one who is in charge of her daily choices. No blaming others for her lack of success, so she celebrates her choices as her own. 9) She keeps focused through the long haul, through the tough times, and perseveres. 10) She celebrates and embraces small improvements that in the end lead to huge victory.
That is a woman who sees true results and has great success in her life. Maybe you can relate to some of those or maybe you can’t relate to any of them and need help. Here’s what I believe God has motivated me to do. Remember when the Roe vs. Wade decision was made in 1973? I didn’t have any influence in this matter. In fact, I didn’t watch television much and I’m not sure if that even passed. But I’m in a position now where God has given me an influence, and I believe that he’s called me to marshall his people together and to do something about this. When I was at Mac Hammond Church right after the Supreme Court legalized this, I was praying and saying “God, what can we do?” So I just have to say, I believe God inspired an idea to do some things, so let me share with you real quick what I’m doing, and I’m going to ask you to be a part of it. I sat down and wrote this thing that I call a “Declaration of Dependence upon God and his Holy Bible” and it is specifically a take-off on the Declaration of Independence. I believe that, praising God, we can because we have a system that was set up by our forefathers that will allow us to redress grievances. As a matter of fact, you know some of you may be familiar with this, but in 1850 I believe it was, that the United States was just expanding into these western territories and the South had allowed slavery but the North had opposed slavery ever since the founding of this nation. Not to go back in history, but a lot of people think that the United States embraced slavery and that is not true. In the North, there were abolitionists the entire time. In the 1780’s there were blacks elected to be governors of the northern states and mayors of cities. It has never been a hundred percent, but as the states began to expand westward, the southern states were trying to make them all approve slavery. So a person filed a lawsuit that as an American that this was wrong to impress them as slaves and it went all the way to the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court made a ruling in the Dred Scott case that a black person was not human but was property and therefore they did not have the same constitutional rights that other people have. So Lincoln and others campaigned on that basis against this and defied the Supreme Court. Lincoln even said that the Supreme Court has no ability to make laws and that the Supreme Court was totally wrong when they made this decision and allowed slavery in all of the states, and so they fought over this and the states’ rights that Lincoln abolish slavery and basically just defied the Supreme Court ruling and overturned it and said you have no power to make laws nor do you have the power to enforce laws. Only the legislature can do that, and they went against them and signed this Emancipation Proclamation completely in defiance of the Supreme Court and overturned it, and we can still do that stuff today. If our legislature was to stand up today and say this is wrong because the balance of powers between the three branches of government, we could stop something. But there has to be some public outcry against this, and I believe we have a lot of outcry that is individual but it isn’t being heard collectively. So as I was sitting down praying for this, the Lord just led me to write what I call a Declaration of Dependence on God and it’s a take-off on the Declaration of Independence. Life Planning from a Kingdom View James H. Willis, III Founder and President The Willis Agency, Inc 813-948-9109 Jim@TheWillisAgency.com www.TheWillisAgency.com 1 Peter 5:7 Life planning is one of those “buzzwords” that gets used a lot. It is a concept that can be adapted for a lot of different categories. It may be work, spiritual or emotional; there is a neverending “big picture.” And it is a perfect opportunity for you to be able to focus on “your main thing.” (Eph 5:15-17) Being that I have a business, “Strategies for Successful Retirement,” we are very active in helping people achieve their life plans. (Which, interestingly, is one of my life plans.) Now there is a lot more to a successful plan than money (ie: spirituality, family, recreation, ministry, health, etc.). But today we will briefly focus on money—What is it? What is it not? What Money IS 1. Money is a Tool! I can accomplish goals and purposes in my life and give it to God. He uses money to do things in my life to produce godliness. (Phil 4:11-13) In other words, we should not be in control but give all ownership to God. 2. Money is a Test! This idea is seen again and again when we are money managers (stewardship). It is very clear that how one handles money has eternal consequences. (Luke 16:11)
3. Money is a Testimony. The world is looking at us all of the time, watching to see how we are different in how we handle money. It is sad to say in many cases, Christians are trying to manage finances like the world instead of their Creator. (Matt 5:1316) We need to use our money to glorify God and His work, not for us to simply have more stuff. What Money Is NOT 1. Money is not a measure of self-worth (Eph 2:10, Deut 8:16-18, Prov 22:2) 2. Money is not a reward for godly living. (1Cor 3:13-15, Heb 11) 3. Money is not a guarantee of contentment. (Ecc 5:10, Phil 4:11-13) 4. Money is not a measure of success. (Joshua 1:8) In conclusion, the “Life Plan”, from a Kingdom view is a financial process that helps clients focus on the eternal rather than the material. By making godly decisions, clients bring balance into their lives through ministry and relationships. Isn’t that what it’s all about anyway? Caring for you and yours, Jim

Tip for the Month
Submitted by Valarie White, Paradise Paws Keep your fur baby’s paw pads safe from scorching pavement and sand to prevent burns. Have you ever tried to walk on asphalt that can reach 90 degrees or more? Yikes! It is the same blazing feeling on our dog’s paw pads. Yes, their pads are thick and provide some protection, but it’s certainly not enough.
A few alternatives to consider; Walk them in the grass as much as possible, take walks in the early morning or late evening, and moisturize those paw pads to prevent cracking, peeling, and minor pad cuts. Remember, if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them!

The second sets of Tablets began with this statement: (Deut. 6:4-6) “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD. And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart.” The two different opening statements meant that it was two different covenants. The first one was broken, and the second set was placed in the Ark and revealed after 40 years. This was the New Covenant which Jeremiah and Ezekiel spoke of and Jesus came to ratify by becoming the new priest after the order of Melchisedec. Once the second set of tablets, “The New Covenant,” was placed in the Ark, it became a part of the New Testament. At that moment the Ark had transcend the Old Covenant identity. This replica of the Ark of the Covenant is presented in the exact size and dimensions and built with real acacia wood and gold
mirrors along with replicas of Aaron’s almond rod, the golden pot of manna, and the box of sweet spices as well as all of the high priest’s garments. How to Keep the Sabbath Continued from Page 1
What if Shadrack, Meshack, and Abednego were just going to bow down just this once for political peace? Or what if Daniel said “I’m going to shut my window and pray because I’m not going to create a spectacle of myself.”? Daniel knew that God was looking for people that would not compromise their faith. Someone had an idea—the 400 meter competition was not on the Sabbath, and so they asked Eric if he would run the 400 meter event that day, and he said, “Well, I’m not a long distance runner and that is not what I was trained for, but since I already had put all of it in God’s hands, I will give it a try and do my best.”
He didn’t do so well during the trials, but on the day of the race when the gun went off, he shot out like a rocket. He looked as if he was possessed by the Holy Spirit, flying around the track and running with a unique style with his head held back. He didn’t look like he could even see the track, and he finished way ahead of everybody else, breaking the world record. Later, someone said this quote about him: “He who waits upon the Lord will renew their strength with wings and not be weary and will walk and not faint.” Because he stood up for that commandment, God found favor in Him. Even though I disagree on what day Eric thought the Sabbath was, Eric wanted to keep that day holy for the Lord regardless, because it was just as important for him to keep it just like all the other commandments. He knew it was important because God wrote it. To keep the restoration of life is important to understand that we are the descendants of Adam and Eve and that means all of us are to understand. Not just for the Jews, but for all of humanity. Genesis 2:1-3: “Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day, God had finished the work he had been doing, so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” He made it holy, and not just for the Jews. Isaiah 66:23: “’From one new moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me,’ says the LORD.” Some people will say, “Oh no, but that was the Sabbath just for the Jews, and then you have the Sabbath for the Gentiles. This teaching is not found in the Bible anywhere.” In the early Christian documents it says, “The ancient Christians were very careful in the observation of Saturday or the seventh day, ‘the Sabbath.’ It is plain to see that all the Oriental churches and the greatest part of the world, observed the Sabbath as a festival.” —Antiquities of the Christian Church Vol. II, Book XX, chap. 3, Sec. I, 66. II 37, II38. They held religious assemblies on the Sabbath not because they were infected with Judaism but to worship Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath. Athanasius says this at the same time, and this was written in the book “Antiquities of the Christian Church” and goes back a long time to the early church fathers. So the idea that the early Christians were not keeping the Sabbath is not supported historically. They all kept the same day. So what does it mean to keep something holy? Holy means to dedicate to a righteous use, keep something sacred and deserving of reverence and to set aside. I Peter 1:15-16” “But as he who called you also is holy in all you do, for it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.’”
So His whole plan is to restore it to holiness. No matter if you forget everything in this message, the most important thing is that God is calling us to holiness. People think that the supreme purpose of life is our happiness. But actually, the purpose of life is holiness. Unholiness you find in unhappiness. In surrendering to God’s will and living as you are His property is where you’re going to find the greatest fulfillment. Hebrews 12:14: “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.” Meaning who is going to see the Lord without holiness? Jesus said he who is pure in heart, they will see God. So when God says you are a holy people, and then we say we got a holy day, what does that mean to God? If we are to be holy, we should not kick aside something God tells us to keep holy, and again in 2 Timothy 1:8-9: “By the power of God, He saves us and calls us to a holy life.” Jesus does not save us in our sin. He saves us from our sin. So when we come to him with our sin, He washes us and He teaches us a new way of living, which is called sanctification. I have a lot of friends that go to church on Sunday every week and they come to me and say, “Brother Doug, I want you to know that I agree with you on the Sabbath and I keep the Sabbath at home. I know you’re right, but I grew up in this church every Sunday and my family and friends go on Sunday and that’s why I keep the Sabbath at home.” Well, I’m glad you are keeping Sabbath, but part of keeping the Sabbath is convocations. So now the question is: Is it necessary to go to church on the Sabbath? If you read in Leviticus 23:3, it says, “Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation.” Convocation means an assembly coming together. If you ever went to a concert, that’s a convocation, meaning assembly. I heard the pastor say one day, pointing out a verse about the Sabbath where it said “let everyone abide by staying in your tent,” and he said “you’re supposed to stay in your tent.” That’s not what it meant. Moses said that because someone was going out gathering firewood on the Sabbath. What he was saying was make preparation for the Sabbath ahead of time so you don’t have to go out looking for firewood on a holy Sabbath of convocation. That’s all he was talking about. Another example of Jesus is in Mark 1:21: “Then they went into Capernaum, on the Sabbath and immediately He entered the synagogue and taught.”
So, on the Sabbath they would read the word and study the scriptures and that was a good thing to do on the Sabbath. For the Sabbath is a blessing. Jesus said it’s good to worship God and fellowship with others in his name. Deuteronomy 6:6-7: “Moses said, ‘These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.’”

So we should plan ahead. When the sun goes down on Friday and the sun comes up on Saturday, this is the Sabbath day, and all should rest and have convocation to the Lord. In Luke 4:16 it says, “Read good spiritual books.” Jesus went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read, and on that day it tells us what he was reading— Isaiah 61. Another thing to do is rest so your body can rejuvenate itself. Jesus said in Mark 6:31: “Come aside by you to a deserted place and rest a while.” Here some good ways you can spend the Sabbath: Listen to or play inspirational music or sing. Visit the sick or elderly. Take time with the homeless, letting them know Jesus loves them. Invite someone home for a meal. Share literature with neighbors. Give a Bible study. Memorize Scripture. Take a nap to rest, but try not to sleep the day away. So if you have a Christian program on, that’s a good thing. It would be like reading the Bible and keeping your eyes on the Sabbath.
would call the extreme left or extreme right. Some people disregard the Sabbath, and others make it a burden, and Jesus had to deal with a lot of this. Jesus had a number of conflicts dealing with the Sabbath that are written in the Gospels. But He never said they should never keep it. He said how to keep it. They put a lot of demands and rules on the Sabbath. For instance, the Bible talks about a Sabbath day’s journey, how long can you hike before it turns from a pleasant walk into work. So the Pharisees went through all the calculations and came up with what they thought would be the distance that wouldn’t be a burden and began to turn into a legalistic lunacy. But if you don’t have some rules or some guidelines, you end up falling on the other side of the road and nothing matters anymore because as soon as you bring up how to keep it holy, you will be accused of legalism. Keep it simple, such as unnecessary cooking. When God would rain down manna for six days, He said, “Don’t try to keep the manna overnight, it’s going to spoil and have worms and start to smell. Except for Friday, you gather twice as much and I will work a miracle so it will be fresh for the Sabbath day so you will not have to go out to gather it.”
Continued on Page 9 The point is not to get into an extreme about the Sabbath but try to stay in the middle of the road. The Bible talks about a boy that was brought to Jesus by his father, and the boy was demon-possessed. The father said that the devil was trying to destroy his son by sending him into the fire and water, two of the opposite sides. The devil doesn’t care if you fall off the left side of the road or the right side. When it comes to the Sabbath truth, you have people who are legalistic, and you had them in the Jesus’ days also. A group you

How to Keep the Sabbath Continued from Page 8
Exodus 16:23-26: “He said to them, ‘This is what the LORD commanded: Tomorrow is to be a day of Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. So bake what you want to bake and boil what you want to boil. Save whatever is left and keep it until morning.’ So they saved it until morning as Moses commanded, and it did not stink or get maggots in it. ‘Eat it today,’ Moses said, “because today is a Sabbath to the LORD. You will not find any of it on the ground today. Six days you are to gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will not be any.’” The same is true for shopping. Going to the mall looking at all those specials is not thinking about Jesus. Nehemiah 10:31: “When the
neighboring peoples bring merchandise or grain to sell on the Sabbath, we will not buy from them on the Sabbath or on any holy day. Every seventh year, we will forgo working the land and will cancel all debts.” And it’s not a day to have your servant wait on you. In my hotel room, I put my do not disturb sign up so that the maid has one less room to do. Look at it this way: plan and get all you need to get done before you take your wife or girlfriend out on that special dinner date. If you’re on the phone doing Facebook and doing all these other tasks, it’s really not special anymore, because you’re not giving her all your attention. You should plan ahead.
Isaiah 58:13-14: “’If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the LORD’s holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words, then you will find your joy in the LORD, and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.’ For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” Some people say, “Doug, I’m not so sure about the Sabbath because my spirit is tell-
ing me it’s just another day.” Well all I can say my friend is, the spirit of God is not going to tell you something different than the Word of God. So you may want to question what spirit is talking to you. You can tell if it’s the Word of God because the spirit of God and the Word of God go together. He wants you to enjoy it and keep it holy and to honor it so that you too will receive his blessing. To learn more, watch this video at https://www. youtube.com/watch?v=dAaMkAWLf7U.
