Written in Stone God took the time to write the Ten Commandments in granite with his own finger. As Christians, is this something that we should think about today? In Roman 6:14, we can read that we are no longer under the law but under grace. Does that mean that Christians no longer have an obligation to keep the Ten Commandments? In the story of Daniel and the lion’s den in chapter six it may help us to understand the Biblical relationship between salvation and the Law of God and how it all fits together. After the Babylonian kingdom fell to the Persians, the new king, Darius, was very impressed with Daniel’s ability and his high spirit, and he was thinking about making him the Prime Minister of his new kingdom. But this was not going over very well with the members of Darius’ cabinet. Because Daniel was a former servant of Nebuchadnezzar, who was their enemy, and because Daniel was a former captive among the Israelites, they could not understand why the king wanted to promote somebody that was a foreigner to be the new Prime Minister. So they came up with a plot and went to Darius and said, “Your Highness, a new kingdom is now being formed now that we have conquered several other empires, and the best way to get everyone all together will be through common worship. So in order for you to get this new kingdom all together, you will need to make a new law. It doesn’t have to last long, but just for thirty days nobody will worship any god or man except for you and this will solidify your kingdom.” Often the devil uses common worship and common language to do that.

The Voice of God
Dr. Dianne Coflin Co-Pastor, River of Life Church Often when we think about the voice of God we think of the kinds of things described in Psalms 29, “The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty. T h e voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness.” The voice of God is also described as the “still small voice”(1Kgs. 19:12). God’s voice may be heard from heaven (Jn. 12:28) or spoken by his prophets (Heb. 1:1). In the Book of 1 Kings 17, Elijah the prophet was instructed by God to journey to the land of Zarephath during a time of intense famine. There, God assured him that “I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain you.” When Elijah arrived, he found a widow collecting sticks to make a fire to cook the last little bit of food she had for her and her son. When Elijah saw her, he said, “Bring me a drink of water.” (a valuable commodity in a time of drought). As she went to get the water, he then said, “Bring me also a little bread.” Her response revealed her dire circumstances. She said, “I only have a handful of meal and a little oil. I am preparing it for me and my son so we can eat and then die.” The next words Elijah spoke may have seemed harsh. He said, “Make me a little cake first and bring it to me and then make for you and your son.” He followed this command with a promise: “For this is what the Lord God of Israel says. ‘The jar of flour will not be empty and the jug of oil will not run out until the day the Lord makes it
rain on the surface of the ground.’” Some may read this account and say, “I thought God told Elijah to go there, for he had already commanded a woman to feed him.” But we see the command of God to the widow came through the mouth of the prophet. Elijah was God’s voice of promise to this woman. Elijah was not trying to take anything from this widow; instead he was trying to position her for a miracle. If she would believe and obey the command of God (“bring me a little cake first”) she would then be able to receive the miraculous promise of God for her, her son, and the prophet. She believed the voice of God from the lips of the prophet and did as Elijah commanded her. The result was God’s miraculous provision for the next several years. We may think the voice of God could only have been spoken through one of these great Old Testament prophets, yet in the New Testament it says Elijah was a man just like us (Jms. 5:17). Is it possible for us to be the voice of God on the Earth? The greatest of miracles is when someone hears the good news of the Word of God and believes what they hear. The amazing results are described as being “born again”, “made a brand new person”, “delivered out of darkness into the light of God’s kingdom”, “set free”, “made whole”, “forgiven”, “cleansed” and “healed.” All these wonderful results are not accomplished because of the one doing the speaking, but because of what is spoken. Jesus said, “whosoever shall say to this mountain, be removed and shall not doubt but shall believe the things he speaks shall come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he speaks.” (Mk. 11:23). Mountains are not always made of granite, but always are obstacles that stand in the way of God’s will for your life. Why don’t

Florida Strawberry Festival 2017 Theme The Florida Strawberry Festival released today the theme for its 82nd annual event – “We’re Playing Your Song!” “Yes, it highlights our entertainment,” said General Manager Paul Davis. “But most of all, it points to our focus of providing what our visitors like.” A new theme is created for each year’s festival to offer patrons a glimpse of the experience they will have at the 11-day event. It also unifies vendors, FFA chapters, organizations, corporate partners, and exhibitors who create parade floats and displays throughout the celebration, said Davis. The festival’s strawberry character featured in each year’s theme artwork is an iconic part of the event’s branding and advertising efforts. In this theme’s artwork, he wears a baseball cap and sunglasses and plays a guitar. “It is our goal for every person who walks through our gate to leave satisfied, knowing we offered them something that they personally enjoy,” said Davis. “We think this theme reflects that well.” About the Florida Strawberry Festival The Florida Strawberry Festival is an 11day community event celebrating the strawberry harvest of Eastern Hillsborough Coun-
ty. Each year, nearly 500,000 visitors enjoy the festival’s headline entertainment, youth livestock shows, exhibits of commerce and, of course, its strawberry shortcake. The 2017 Florida Strawberry Festival where “We’re Playing Your Song!” takes place March 2-12 in Plant City, FL. For more information, visit www.flstrawberryfestival.com, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (#berryfest17).

Faith Goal Setting James H. Willis, III Founder and President The Willis Agency, Inc 813-948-9109 Jim@TheWillisAgency.com www.TheWillisAgency.com 1 Peter 5:7 Ha! This is a big topic that very few people accomplish. Now I know we normally might talk about goals for the New Year. Well, in many lives we might begin a new school year with goals or plans goals for the “Snowbird” season, and some companies set goals for their new business year. So let’s view this as a “Goal Tune-Up!” Goal setting is an ongoing process which serves as the basis for Life Planning. May I add that the process of goal setting is more important that the actual goals. Yet it is estimated that only 3% of Americans actually set goals—written goals. The reason this is so important for Christians is because it helps identify the “Biblical Stewardships” that are to be used as God-given gifts and resources (time, talents, treasures, truth, relationships, etc.) for the accomplishment of God-given goals and objectives. Why Should We Set Goals? 1. They provide direction and purpose. 2. They help us to crystallize our thinking. 3. They provide personal motivation. 4. They are a statement of God’s will for us. Why Don’t We Set Goals? 1. Fear of Failure. 2. Concern that it takes a great deal of time. 3. Lack of knowledge of how to set goals. 4. Lack of understanding of what goals to set.
So, as you can see, we are not just looking at setting goals from the world’s motivational speakers’ mindsets. We are setting “Faith Goals” or “An objective toward which I believe God wants me to move.” I feel I need to emphasize the word “faith” by a couple of definitions: • “Faith” is acting on the basis that this is what God wants me to do.” —Ron Blue • “Faith is acting on the belief that the Bible is true in spite of my feelings and experiences to the contrary.” —Ken Boa • Faith is not the denial of reality, but the acceptance of a greater reality.” —Beth Moore This “Faith Goal” has 2 parts: my part and God’s part. So here is the question: How do I set a Faith Goal? 1. Spend time with God. 2. Write down your impressions. 3. Make it measurable. (It is not a goal until it is measurable. At best it is a good intention.) 4. Take action or take the first step. I will end with one more encouraging quote: “A dream is just a dream. A goal is a dream with a deadline and a plan.” —Harvey Mackay What are your “Faith Goals?” Caring for you and yours, Jim
Garden Connect
By Steve & Jeanne Wolfe from White Dove Farm
REST. There is a time for rest. It’s beneficial to shift your garden areas. Let some areas rest and switch to plant in another area. When spreading manure fertilizer, let it rest a season. Some farmers rotate their crops. It is recommended. There are many passages about gardening in the Bible. Garden tools you will find that will help the amateur gardener succeed to one’s amazement and delight like a small Roto-tiller run by a two-cycle engine are easily operated by a woman or older youth (supervised). The only thing that’s hectic is cutting off any vines, roots, wire, or string that gets tangled up in the rotary blades. I have found lots of things hung up in my blades which needed to be cut and cleaned off for future use. We don’t have any problems with rocks since central West Florida is rock barren.
My wife’s expertise is garden art and I am her assistant, so if anyone is interested in designing and making their own garden borders or walks, we will share some in our articles if you like. Come to our Garden Connect meeting and get some ideas in the garden tour. We love to visit other home gardens and get inspired. Our last instructor at the September meeting was David Strawderman, if you didn’t make it here, you missed a good one. He spoke about companion gardening, which means putting plants together that help each other, making your experience more productive. As an example, plant peppers near eggplant and don’t forget marigolds around the perimeter of your garden. The question and answer segment was wonderful! RSVP which means call ahead of time because we need to know how many people we need to be accountable for chairs, tables, and food since we eat after the meeting. You are invited to Garden Connect on Saturday October 15th at 3:30pm. The speaker will be Dr. Ramona Gelzer-Bell, and the topic will be “Health and Moringa.” Don’t forget to bring something to share, and we look forward to meeting you! Odessa Soccer Club Odessa Soccer Club is open for registration for its inaugural season which begins Saturday, September 17 for boys and girls age 6 to 11. Odessa Soccer Club’s fall season offers a seven-game league play format ending with a championship tournament on the last Saturday of the season, November 12. All games and practices are held at 18105 Gunn Highway, Odessa, FL., on the beautiful campus of Keystone Prep High School. “Our club is a little different than anything else offered in the area,” says League Commissioner Jim Young. “We offer an open league play platform where players are not required to try out. However, at the end of the season there is a championship tournament.” League Director Young believes having a championship tournament at the end of
the season adds a layer of competition to the league that you do not find in recreation leagues. The additional competitive aspect motivates players to develop more than they would in a recreation league. “Players want to be on a competitive team, and our league allows all skill levels to compete since there are no try-outs,” Mr. Young added. Odessa Soccer Club teams will practice on Saturday mornings before their games. According to Mr. Young, “players can immediately implement skills and techniques their coaches teach them by competing immediately after practice. Families will also enjoy not having practice during the week so they can spend time together, and children can focus on school work.” For more information or to register, visit www.OdessaSoccerClub.com.
What Does It Take To Change? Samantha Taylor Pure Health & Fitness Studios Many people have to reach a place where they are so uncomfortable with the pain of staying there that it outweighs the fear of changing. Many people reach a point where they say, “I just can’t live like this anymore.” The good thing about reaching that point is that you are more likely do something about it. Often when someone doesn’t have enough pain or discomfort, then it doesn’t motivate them to take action. The most common things women tell me when they finally get the courage to call is, “I saw a picture of myself and I couldn’t believe my body has turned into this.” Or “Someone asked me when my baby was due and I am not pregnant!” Or “I feel like I am 20 years older than I am and I am starting to look like my mother who is not healthy or in shape.” Or “I am the heaviest weight I have ever been and every time I step on the scale, I tell myself that is the heaviest I will let myself get, until the next time.” Or “I kept telling myself I can do this on my own but it’s not happening.” Usually when someone reaches these places, they realize that if they don’t do something now, they might be in big trouble later with their health. They start to get really concerned about the next 10 to 20 years of their life and some can’t think that far in advance and can only think about being concerned with the next 3 months. I heard a statement over 20 years ago that really impacted my life, which was “You will never change what you tolerate.” That is so
true! If you accept it in your life, you won’t change it. But if you say, “Enough is enough, I am not going to live like this anymore,” then possibly you will muster up enough courage to do something about it. If you don’t, very quickly one more month turns into another year and then all of a sudden another decade. Then we wake up 20 years older, looking at ourselves back in the mirror with regret because we didn’t take care of our bodies. I encourage you to do something about it now. Don’t wait. Don’t let it get to a point where you are forced to get serious because you are facing some serious medical condition. You can be proactive with your health and take action. I know it can be a little scary and some feel nervous about making those decisions, but you have to start somewhere. Sometimes it’s making the phone call or going on the website that can be the most difficult part. Our business is set up to help you learn how to eat healthier in a way you love, get rid of food cravings and experience a new healthy relationship with food. And to get your body moving again to get a toned, fit body. We can help you if you give us the chance. We have 3 locations: Land O’ Lakes, Wesley Chapel, and opening soon in Carrollwood. We are starting pre-sales on our memberships in Carrollwood and will be having massive specials to celebrate the new location. Take that first step, just call us or go on the website and book a Body Transformation Analysis. This could be the next step you need to turn your life into a happier, healthier one where you feel great and can look in the mirror again and love your reflection! Written in Stone Continued from Page 1
So if you read in Daniel 6:8, he signs the decree that no one is to pray to any god or man for thirty days or they would be cast into the lion’s den. King Darius never thought that anyone would ever break his law because once the king signed the decree, it could not be changed. When Daniel heard about the signing of the decree, knowing the penalty, he chose not to hide his faith, so he went into his house and opened up his windows facing toward Jerusalem on his knees and gave thanks to his God as written in Daniel 6:10. Soon after, the cabinet members went to the King Darius and said to him. “You know someone in your kingdom just doesn’t care about your new law. It’s that Daniel. He’s been praying three times a day.” With a heavy heart and knowing that he could not change the law, he gave the command to cast Daniel into the lion’s den. The king spoke to Daniel, saying, “May the God whom you serve deliver you.” And he had the stone put over the lion’s den with a government seal in Daniel 6:16. The next morning, the king had the stone removed and said, “Has your God delivered you from the lions?” Daniel cried out, saying, “My God has sent angels to shut the lions’ mouths.”
-Because Daniel knew one of the Ten Commandments says that “you shall put no other God before me.” Not even King Darius, not even for thirty days. Daniel was showing with his life that by keeping this law no harm would come to him and that he was willing to die rather than to disobey the law. So what kind of faith and determination will God’s people need in the last days? Will there be a law that says that he that does not worship the Beast in his image will be killed? Because worshiping the Beast is going to require breaking one of the Ten Commandments. Like Daniel, will God’s people love the Lord so much that they would rather die or go hungry than to break God’s commandments? The Ten Commandments are not multiple choice questions. Can God’s moral law be amended or repealed? Jesus tells us in Luke 16:21: “And it is easier for heaven to pass away than one speck of the law to fail.” In Psalm 89:34, it reads: “My covenant I will not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.” God is not going to break his covenant, for it’s forever and ever. Also in Psalm 111:7-8 it says that all of his commandments are sure and will stand fast forever and ever. The Ten Commandments just didn’t suddenly appear in Exodus because the Ten Commandment have always reflected God’s nature. We know this from when Potiphar’s wife tried to tempt Joseph to commit adultery in the book of Genesis. Joseph said, “I cannot do that.” Joseph knew this even in the days of Genesis that adultery was a sin. When Cain killed Abel, God said that sin lies at your door, and sin is the breaking of God’s laws. Was murder a sin in the Gar-
den of Eden? Or was murder not a sin until God wrote it down at Mount Sinai? Just as it is wrong to lie all the way back from the beginning. God simply arranged it, meaning that He wrote approximately 300 words into a stone of granite so it could not be changed nor would there be any misunderstanding that this was his perfect will for all of man and not to just one nation. So when you do away with law, you do away with the nature of God. All through the Bible, you will find reflected references in His law. God is good, the law is good, God is Holy, the law is Holy, God is righteous, God is truth, God is pure, God is spiritual, God is unchangeable, and God is eternal. These are all characteristics of the law. So we need to be very careful about doing away with God’s law because it is the very nature of God. Jesus was the word that became flesh. Christ said that “he who hears these words of mine is like a wise man who built on a rock.” And the Ten Commandments was written on rock. If any words would be important, it would be the words that God wrote in stone. Christ was the embodiment of the world. His life was of obedience to the laws of God. He said, “Pick up your cross and follow me.” Jesus came to save us from sin. So what is he saving us from? In 1st John 3:4 it says, “Sin is the transgression of the law.” In Romans 3:20, it reads: “By the law is the knowledge of sin.” We really don’t know what sin is except by the law. For God’s laws reveals what sin is. The purpose of the law is not to save us but to show us that we are in need of salvation. You can illustrate this by using a mirror to simulate the Ten Commandments and a wash cloth to simulate what Jesus did for us. Let’s say that I walk out among you with something on my face and people begin whispering about it. Then a staff member comes up and says to me, “You have pie on your face.” And if I pulled out a mirror, I could confirm what they have said is true. I could say that the mirror must be broken or say, “You’re right,” and then try to use the mirror by rubbing it on my face to try to remove it or use the cloth of Jesus with the mirror to wipe it away. So you can see that the mirror or the law can show you what’s wrong or the problems in your life. But it could not be removed without the cloth of Jesus. The law is here to show us we need both the law and the blood of Jesus in order to take away sin. So the law is like a mirror as it says in James 1:23-25. It’s not to take away our sin but to show us our sin, and then you go to Jesus for cleansing. Paul said where there is no law there’s no transgression. In Romans 7:7 it reads, “I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said you shall not covet.” Did Jesus keep the Ten Commandments? In John 15:10 says, “I have kept my Father’s commandments.” What is the punishment for living a life of sin? In Romans 6:23 it says, “The wages of sin is death.” Some say the Ten Commandments are not binding for the New Testament Christians. Jesus said in Matthew 19:17, “If thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.” Also in John 14:15, it says, “If you love me, keep my commandments.” You may hear a lot of pastors say that you do not have to keep the commandments, saying that Jesus had come to fulfill the law. So what does that mean? When Jesus came to John the Baptist to be baptized John said to Jesus that you need to baptize me because you are the Messiah. Jesus said to him, “no John, allow it to be this way to allow us to fulfill all righteousness.” So obviously he wants us to keep the commandments. How is it possible to keep the commandments? In Romans 8:3-4 it says, “God sent his own Son... condemned sin in the flesh that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us.” And in Philippians 1:6 it tells us, “He who has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

What is the old covenant and why did it fail? Deuteronomy 4:13 says, “And he declared unto you His covenant, which He commanded you to perform, even the Ten Commandments and He wrote them upon two tablets of stone.” But while Moses was retrieving the tablets from God, the Israelites made a golden calf. In Hebrews 8:8 it says, “In finding fault with them he said, ‘I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah.’” The old covenant was based on the promises of the people who made a promise. The new covenant is based on the Lord. Hebrews 8:10 says “‘This is the covenant that I will make,’ said the Lord. ‘I will write them into their hearts.’” Who spoke the first law? God did. The problem is with the people, not the law. God never commanded his people to do something without giving them the power to do so. So when you follow the law that is called obedience. But some churches today are acting as if obedience is legalism. Obedience is not legalism. It is just another way for the devil to intimidate Christians by using dirty words among Christians, like legalist and Pharisee. Doesn’t living under grace, by faith, make keeping God’s laws non-essential? Romans 6:15 says, “What then, shall we sin because we are not under grace? God forbid!” And again in Romans 3:31 it says, “Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid yea, we establish the law. Again He use that praise God forbid.” Paul said in 2:13 that “it is not the hearers
of the law that will be justified but the doers that will be justified.” Ephesians 2:8-9 “for by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves. It is a gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.” We’re not saved by our obedience. But if we love the Lord, we want to obey Him. If you go to Billy Graham’s website and ask the question: “Does God expect His people to keep the Ten Commandments?” Answer: The Ten Commandments are just as valid today as when God gave them to Moses over 3,000 years ago. Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the law.” in Mathew 5:18. Are some Old Testament laws no longer binding? The answer is yes. The laws contained in ordnances such as yearly Sabbath offerings, meat offerings, drink offerings, etc. such as those in Leviticus 23. The Passover ceremony and circumcision are all ceremonial laws. Just remember this: the Ten Commandments were written by the eternal nature of God. Ceremonial laws were written by Moses. These are two distinct laws. And the law that was nailed to the cross was ceremonial laws. Not the Ten Commandments. If you’re struggling as we all do, just say, “Lord, I want to do your will.” You know He gave us the Commandments because he wants to save us. Written in Stone is a free special offer #111. Pure Health & Fitness Studios
Submitted by Kay Dunn, Dunndeal Publications Mark and I have had a wooden deck off our Florida room for over 15 years, and it needed replacing. We thought we would check out how much it would be if we upgraded to pavers. Mark is an investigator when it comes to shopping for comparisons. After pricing the material and then the time it would take us to pull up the old wood, prepare the ground, and then deal with laying the pavers—which we would have to order and have delivered, etc.—we were exhausted just from looking at all the varieties of pavers! I thank God that Mark saw the Deco Pavers car and asked the driver if they were a Christian operating company. When Gretchen Zayas answered yes they were, the next thing I know, she was invited to give us a quote. The quote made the decision easy. She made choosing the type of pavers and the color easy. The job was scheduled and completed before our family visit on July 4th. We had them return to do a professional deep cleaning a bit later. It’s amazing what a difference the pavers make! We asked ourselves, “Why did we wait so long to beautify the Dunndeal Estate & Water Park?”

Samantha Taylor “I’ve been one of their longest-running advertisers for thirteen years and have been absolutely amazed with my experience. This paper has been the BIGGEST factor God has used for my success as a Personal Trainer and Weight Loss Expert. Thanks to THIS paper, it’s contributed to me successfully training over 4,500 women. Even though I got calls from day one, the thing I’ve been lately amazed with is how many loyal readers this paper has. I get calls from people that have been reading my articles for years and since they are now ready to get in better shape and better health, they call me because I’ve been the trusted source they’ve seen for so many years in THIS paper. Even in tough times, I’ve never, nor will I ever, stop advertising in this paper. It’s been a tool that has built my business to be one of the most successful Personal Training Studios around. Thank you, Dunndeal Publications! I wouldn’t have done it without you!”
