Don’t Give Up On God, God Has Not Given Up On You
Jonah and the Whale Animated Children’s Bible Stories Bedtime Stories https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uffMjgYhvlM “We are perplexed, but we are not driven to despair.” 2 Corinthians 4:8 NLT Why not? Because God knows what we don’t and sees what we can’t. Hebrews 11 says, “Faith is the assurance of something you cannot see.” There are questions. There are times we feel perplexed. Yet we have faith that a story is being written we don’t quite get. Have you ever tried to put together a puzzle without the picture on the box? It’s easy to give up. Listen... Faith is working on a puzzle when you don’t have the picture on the box. You don’t see how they’re going to all come together, but you keep at it. This is Abraham. God says, “I want you to move.” “Where am I supposed to move to?” “I’m not going to tell you. Just move.” This is Joseph being told through this dream he’s going to be a great leader and then sold into slavery. This is Mary being told that she would conceive a child, but she was a virgin. April 2020
My Experience at Dunndeal Publications As An Ambassador For Jesus By Brittany Cravatta
Let me begin by explaining where this all began. In November 2018, I was laid off in my very first career. It was heartbreaking for me. I understand that things like this happen all the time, but I didn’t think that I would experience something like this so soon. It turned out that the company that I had previously worked for was financially unstable and they tried to sweep it under the rug for months and hide it, not just from me, but from all the other employees there, too. Finally, the breaking point came when they told me that they no longer had enough money to pay me. Great… I spent the next couple of months working a part-time job just trying to get some type of income while I tried to find an alternative. I didn’t find it until I met Kay Dunn in August of 2019 at a Pasco Chamber of Commerce meeting. During our 30-second commercials, I told everyone that I was a writer in search of a job position. Kay came up to me after the meeting and introduced herself and the paper. I told her that I have seen and read the paper before and that my father often brought home each monthly issue. After meeting Kay and her husband Mark at Panera Bread that same month, they told me what they were looking
for when it came to the future of their business. They said that they were not specifically looking for writers, but for someone to take over the business. On the outside, I showed a calm expression but on the inside I was a nervous wreck. I have never had any business experience. I never took business classes in college and I have a very timid personality to be someone’s boss. Writing, editing, and interviewing people have always been my main strength. It’s all I did for years while studying journalism at school and it was all I did in my past job position. It took me a while to really think about the opportunity that they were offering me. The last thing I wanted to do was to pretend that I was something that I clearly wasn’t, and my worst thought was that I would end up ruining the business that they created in honor of Jesus. But then Kay told me something over the phone. I was jumping ahead of myself as I usually do when I overthink things. She said, “How do you know if you’re good at it if you don’t try it out? Spend some time with us and see how it goes.” And so I did. It is now April 2020, and I am still in training
with Kay on how to run a business. Of course, I still have a lot of room for improvement. I’m definitely not ready to call myself a top entrepreneur. However, I think that my eyes have been opened to many things. Kay has introduced me to various business owners who were once just like me. I have met so many great people and honestly, my fears and doubts slowly started to diminish the more that I interacted with people. I can now have confidence in myself to schedule my very own appointments with clients and
prospects. It has only been 6 months, and I feel that I have really grown as a person. I can’t help but feel God helped me with this. He took me out of my old job because He knew I wasn’t becoming the person that I was capable of being. God knew my fears and my lack of boldness. And this was how He answered my prayers… even if it took a lot to be able to get out of my comfort zone. And I still have room for improvement! However, I’m definitely not the woman I was in November 2018.

Kidz Corner: Easter Hi, my name is Harley, and I write for the Kidz Corner monthly. This month we’re going to talk about Easter. Jesus was crucified and killed because He claimed He was the Son of God. Three days later, some women visited His tomb so they could put perfume and stuff on His body, but when they looked in, it wasn’t there! They were very surprised. Then an angel appeared and told them that Jesus had risen from the dead! They went and told a bunch of other people that Jesus was alive, but Mary Magdalene stayed at the tomb. Then a man she assumed was the gardener came and she asked, “Where did you take His body?” but then she realized that it was actually Jesus!! God sent Jesus to earth because we do really
bad things called sins. When Jesus died on the cross he made us pure in the sight of God if we accept Him. And why would we want to be pure? We want to be pure because Jesus can’t have eternal relationships with sinners, but if we are pure then He can be forever friends with us. Also we want to bring others to believe in Him so that they can go to heaven, but why would we want to go to heaven? We want to go to heaven because heaven is awesome and it’s where God wants us to be. Otherwise you’ll be complaining in hell for eternity. Jesus is God’s Son and people had false accusations, which is why it wasn’t fair that He was killed.
We celebrate Easter because of the fact that Jesus lived. He lives and He will always live! He conquered death and came back to life on the third day. God sent Jesus to earth because He wants us to be in His kingdom and He loves us! Jesus washes away our sins! Do you have a relationship with Jesus? Is your eternity secure? If not, please read this - https:// www.gotquestions.org/eternal-life.html. We Will Get Through This! Samantha Taylor Samantha Taylor Fitness These are unprecedented times that we are all going through, and I know it is quite shocking what we have already dealt with as a nation and as a community. One thing the people who have gone through a national crisis that are in their 70’s have reminded me of is, “We will get through this. I know it seems tough right, now but we will recover!” Although sometimes it’s tough to hear that, it’s also comforting. Just keep moving forward through each day and try not to let the stress consume you, which includes possibly being careful how much time you spend watching the news. I know it gets intense when you are locked up in your house all day, especially with a bunch of wild children being cooped up too! I have been amazed at how creative people have been with their time instead of just watching TV all day, people are playing games together as a family, painting, or organizing their house, and many of them are taking action on their fitness at home. Exercising and eating healthy can highly help with your immune system and helps your body have a better chance of fighting off viruses. Or if someone gets one, if they do have a strong immune system, they have a higher chance of getting through it faster with less side effects. That is one reason why we have been offering our members online workouts 12 times a week! If you would like to have a free at home 2-week workout, see the link below. One friendly thing to remind people of with nutrition is eating too much sugar. I know when we are stressed, we tend to eat comfort food, and if you are a sugar-holic like I used to be, I would eat it in mass quantities. However, eating sugar can also lower your immune system,
which can increase the risk of someone getting sick. That is why so many more people tend to get sick after the holidays. I know Easter is here and that does bring around a lot of sweets. Just be careful to not consume too much or even make a decision because of the times right now to just not partake this time. At my site below, I also have a list of delicious sugar-free chocolate and sweets you can have instead. With so many churches not meeting in person, I highly encourage you to find a place you can enjoy a worship service online. Twenty-two years ago, my husband and I went to church because someone asked us to go but we didn’t really want to. God had other plans, and that was the day that we both responded to God and began a relationship with Jesus. Since Easter (Resurrection Sunday) is really meant to focus around celebrating Jesus and His resurrection, that service we attended really got our attention. And it was because someone invited us that we went. So maybe think of a friend you can tell about an online service you know of. One of the most popular preachers in the world and one you can trust with what he is going to preach is Charles Stanley. You can watch his sermons online as well. We have been listening to him for over 20 years! And think about how even strengthening your relationship with God can also help you get through these tough times. I would love to give you some free help, including a webinar by our Licensed Dietitian on “How to Increase your Immunity” and our free 2-week at home workout plan. And a Bible study you can see online that I just did, called, “How to have Peace in the Midst of this Storm.” Go here to get them: www.SamanthaTaylorFitness.com/BeStrong. Feel free to share this anywhere. We are all in this together. I care about you and this community and we will make it through this. : ) Samantha Taylor www.SamanthaTaylorFitness.com.

An Act of Kindness: The Good Samaritan
Jesus answered, “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. By chance a certain priest was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. In the same way a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he travelled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion, came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, and gave them to the host, and said to him, ‘Take care of him. Whatever you spend beyond that, I will repay you when I return.’ Now which of these three do you think seemed to be a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?” He said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.” — Luke 10:30–37, World English Bible “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.’” — Phillpians 2:3-4

After a tiring day of following Jesus, a huge number of people were in an unpopulated area about to experience the hungry emotion. Jesus asked his apostles to find food for the crowd. Eleven of them sat on their hands wondering, “How?” while one was out in the area networking. Or was he? Andrew wasn’t a networker. He was a great connector. He brought people one at a time to connect with Jesus. First, he brought his brother Peter. “Hey Pete, there is the guy I want to introduce you too.” Then on the day when the crowds were getting restless, he found this fisherman who had 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. He told the guy to come with him. He connected him with Jesus. Andrew wasn’t thinking the guy only had a little bit of food. He knew Jesus would know what to do with the little bit of food. He knew that no relationship was insignificant for Jesus. All people mattered to him. Andrew stepped back to let Jesus and the fisherman do their thing together…a giant miracle. We all remember how the story ended. Everyone was full and extra food was left over. Connectors are much different from networkers. Relationships are cultivated one by one by connectors. Networkers cast their nets to see who they can get to do something for them. Connectors are the essential people who—as predicted by their name—bring us together. They’re the ones who make things happen, who cook up events and generate ideas in order to inspire others. Where there’s a lack of community, a connector will conjure one; they are the quiet masterminds at the center of activity. Drawn to people of all backgrounds and ages, connectors derive their energy from meeting people and shrinking the gaps between their vast and diverse networks through introduction. It’s a leadership quality that many leaders don’t speak about yet their followers admire because it is a selfless act to grow the people they lead. The man who best exemplifies this quality in my life is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel who served our country for decades. Today he owns Echo, an insurance company that focuses on meeting customers’ health and life insurance needs. Jay Ellison is a husband and father to 6
kids and one great leader. I met Jay in 2016. I joined a networking group to meet people who could help simplify my clients’ needs. They were spending time on making their health their priority to take care of themselves and their families, so I wanted to be able to connect them with good people who delivered excellent customer service in the areas they may need like accountants, plumbers, ACT/ SAT prep teachers, and such. I had always loved meeting new people, but the concept of networking was a bit scary until I saw what it really is about by watching Jay Ellison lead the group as the president. Jay had all the leadership qualities we talked about so far in this column, yet what stood out was his ability to connect people to other people with the intention of growing both the people’s businesses. Under his leadership, the group grew to 67 people which at the time was the largest BNI Chapter in the region. It didn’t just grow without reason. It grew because Jay knew how to lead, motivate and a demonstrator of walking the walk. He was genuine and a bit of a rebel against the rigid BNI structure which we all liked. He stood up for people, made sure we all treated each other with respect but above all, he was a fantastic connector. His entire military career was spent leading people by his actions. He cultivated the ability to listen and store the tiniest details from conversations to later help make connections between people that would allow them to flourish together. As the president, his legacy wasn’t the size of the group but how connected were as a community. So kids, someday when you are building your businesses, you will join network groups or attend networking events. Rather than cast a net to see who you can get to be new clients, take the time to listen to who you are speaking with and think how you can help connect that person to another person, then step back and let the unimaginable happen. “Say You Saw It In A Dunndeal Publication”
Who is in Charge? Dr. Dan Coflin Pastor, River of Life Church Have you ever witnessed an unhappy customer looking for the person in charge in order to voice their complaint? The soup is cold, the bathroom stinks, and the product promising to erase the effects of aging did not work, so we look for someone to voice our dissatisfaction to. It amazes me how often people in crisis focus their rage against God. “God, why did you let this happen to me?” is a common complaint. God gets blamed for cancer, car accidents, and catastrophes of all kinds. Storms, bankruptcy, divorce and hardships must be God’s fault for after all he is in charge of everything, RIGHT? Here are some biblical truths to help us understand how the Almighty, All Powerful, Omnipotent, Sovereign God is not the one bringing trouble into your life. God did not ordain it and neither did he allow it. Just because whatever happened, happened does not mean it was the will of God. Some would say that God always does everything according to his will and that is true, but we must understand that not everything that is done is done by God. God is crystal clear in his word to us that it is not his will to murder, steal, lie, lust, or covet, but those activities are common throughout the Earth. Those are not God’s works, but man’s and man without God has no power to resist the temptations that come against him. Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world” (Jn 18:36). You see this world is not governed by God, but by the “god of this world” (2 Cor. 4:4). A person without God believes that spiritual things are foolish because he does not understand them (1 Cor. 2:14). The “spiritual
person” (the ones with God in their lives) understands that there is more to this life than what can be seen. The world is described as the arrangement of how things function. The world is not the planet but the way things are governed by those unseen forces we wrestle with (Eph. 6:12). The good news is that we do not have to live according to the kingdoms of this world’s system because if we are in Christ, we have been “delivered from the authority of darkness, and have been translated into the kingdom of his dear Son.” (Col. 1:13). The kingdom of God is not in some geographical region of the world, but is inside of us (Lk. 17:21). What is the kingdom of God? According to the Apostle Paul it is “righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Rm. 14:17). The kingdom of God is inside of us. God intended for us to live inside out, not outside in. If we have a complaint about a condition we don’t like, let’s find the one in charge of that worldly work. Fortunately for us, we have authority in the name of Jesus over every wicked work (Lk. 10:19). Yes, it is true that in this world we live in there is trouble, but Jesus said, “be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world.” (Jn. 16:33). Are you a world overcomer? The Word of God asks that question and also gives us the answer: ”Who is he that overcomes the world? He that believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” (1 Jn. 5:5). How On Earth Did I Get Here? James H. Willis, III
For 2020, we are doing a 12-month summary of my book. It is filled with unbelievable personal stories of conflict from family fights, divorces, and personal insecurities to living in a tree at 15, homeless. Later, the book recounts how the Lord’s guidance put me on the path of an overcomer! From being unloved, unwanted, and uncared for to healthy, happy, and whole. CHAPTER 4: ADULTHOOD – WOOZERS! CAN I DO IT?” An elderly couple was coming through the intersection, and we nailed each other. The sound was like a bomb going off. We hit so hard that my precious Volkswagen van went flying forward, and the front windshield exploded in my face. I was just inches from the road’s asphalt, and the van flopped over on its side. I wasn’t dead, but I wished I was. I was just lying there. I wasn’t hurt, but I was thinking, “I’ve even ruined my high-school graduation.” I can’t tell you how crushed I was. All my plans for a new life past high school were thrown into a severe tailspin – to say the least. I was such a mess. At nineteen, I felt like I had lost everything – Again! You may have some of these pains and awful feelings, but let me tell you, you can overcome this. You are somebody. So, step by step, I started putting my life back together. High school was over, and I had a great job, but I needed to make some changes, like get my own apartment. I also had a girlfriend and we decided to move in together. Young people can make some of the dumbest decisions (find out what happens in chapter 4 of the book). For several months, my dad had been trying to find me. He wanted me to work at his new clothing store. Wait until you see what happened. This adulthood stuff is a big deal. Remember that song, “Staying Alive”? It seemed to be my personal theme song. There are several personal stories in this chapter alone…just crazy! And then came that fateful last Thursday night of February 1975. Steven, an old high-school friend of mine who I hadn’t seen in years, stopped by and set in progress the biggest change I’d ever had in my life. These articles contain an abbreviated version of my stories. The stories will continue next month!!!
Warning...Don’t read this book…. ...if you want your life to stay the same! HOW TO GET A BOOK: Book Cost: $20.00 - Includes tax, shipping and is personally autographed by the author. By Brittany Cravatta
On March 10, 2020, a mother lost her son, a father lost his son, and a boy lost his little brother. A boy had died while crossing Moon Lake Road on his bicycle while going to school and got hit by a car. He was only 14 years old. A week before that, another mother had lost her teenage daughter due to a drug overdose. Some of you may have known these people, maybe some of you didn’t. However, I won’t name names out of respect for both of these families. The point is, no one would have known this and no one would have cared to know given everything that is happening. With the Coronavirus spiraling out of control, we have seen a lot of selfish people hoarding toilet paper and other essential needs such as food. Now if you stop by Publix or Walmart, all of the shelves are empty. The point is this… we’re all living in the moment just trying to survive. But we never stop and think about someone else, that people are struggling or suffering from other things. We’re not thinking about those who are suffering, not from COVID-19, but from other things. Do you think the mothers who lost their children are really concerned about this virus? Now, I’m not saying that we shouldn’t be taking this virus seriously. We don’t want anyone else to lose a life due to this illness. How-
ever, I wish people would take a moment to pray. Not just for themselves, not for their lives or their businesses, but for others that are going through a much harder time. I understand that is hard to do with all the stress that we go through. We often think that whatever we’re going through is the worst thing in the world. We like to place the blame on others. I tend to think that the world would be a much better place if people would try to understand someone else. We’re all so caught up in our own lives, it’s very difficult to even fathom that someone else may even be going through something ten times worse. Americans are so caught up in their own politics that they don’t realize people in other countries are going hungry. We all hate this country, its leader, the environment, and the religion but we don’t even realize that people in other countries are suffering far worse and wish they could live in America where they could prosper. April is the time of Easter. Jesus sacrificed himself for us and was crucified. He rose from the dead on the third day. And while all of the children will be enjoying their chocolate bunnies and Easter Egg hunts, please remember the real meaning of this day. For all those who practice Lent, I’m sure you all will enjoy all of the things that you sacrificed for 40 days and 40 nights. The Coronavirus ruined St. Patrick’s Day. Let’s not let it ruin Easter, too. Take this time to think about others. There is always something behind the mask that people aren’t showing. No one’s life is perfect. People’s lives are taken away every day, which is why I think we should all pray for others, even if it seems like people are fine.
“Jesus said ‘All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything said to you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.’” — John 14:25-27

The 19th Anniversary of God’s Word in Print Media By Brittany Cravatta
March 2020 marked the 19th Anniversary of the Dunndeal Gazette Publications! This paper has gifted the Tampa Bay area with Christian education and placed God’s Word in print media for 19 years! It all started with the two very different people, Kay and Mark Dunn. Kay and Mark lived separate lives and went through their own personal struggles before God put them together. On March 27, 1999, they officially got married. However, that is not where the paper started. Kay attempted to continue her life as a businesswoman while Mark was out and about trying to find another job after working in the manufacturing and transportation industry for years. The paper was officially started by Mark in 2001 around the time of 9/11. Everyone was full of fear and sorrow during that time. People needed to hear something uplifting, enlightening, and positive in the news, and it was extremely difficult for people to even keep their faith. This is what inspired the Gazette. As a born-again Christian, Kay wanted to help Mark build the paper from the ground up. Being the businesswoman that she is, she used her skills to help gain some loyal followers and clients while Mark used his creative side to pitch story ideas and come up with the graphics and direct his team of young men and women who represented Dunndeal Publications during its rapid growth. At its start, the Gazette was only distributed in one zone, Westchase. Today, it is distributed to six different zones, multiple business locations, and delivered to homeowners’mail boxes by the USPS. Many people wanted to show their support for Christian education, positivity, and God’s Word. The paper was a way to spread joy to those who were going through hardships. Of course, gaining this achievement was far from easy.
Mark & Kay Dunn The paper went through many setbacks starting from the 2008 recession, which put many people out of jobs. Much like what we are currently going through, it was hard for people to pay for advertising which made things difficult for the Dunn duo. However, the paper was created for one purpose and that was to help spread the word of God and Jesus, because everyone needs to feel like they have a reason to be enlightened by something. In 2014, Kay was diagnosed with Melanoma Cancer, another obstacle that Kay personally had to fight through. Battling cancer only made her faith stronger than ever. Mark became her caregiver with Jesus as the Great Physician. Ten months later, the bad cancer cells were dead. This is the 19th year that the Dunndeal Gazettes have blessed the heart of Tampa with heartfelt stories that educate others on the Christian faith. Pal Campo Restaurant: Authentic Puerto Rican Food By Michelle Cloutier
est to our American palates – fried country cheese in a guava sauce and lightly fried cassava root. The platter was more than a meal in itself, so I recommend trying one or two appetizers each visit. I decided to try the Skirt Steak (Churrasco) with Chimichurri sauce, having once dined on it near Rincon, Puerto Rico. It did not disappoint! The steak was well-pounded into tenderness (if you’ve eaten skirt steak, you know this is a rare thing!), and the Chimichurri sauce was freshly chopped parsley with just enough garlic to enhance the steak’s chargrilled flavor. Of course, there’s Mofongo – fried, mashed green plantains – but you have to try the Trifongo! Served in a deep wooden bowl, this mixture of green and ripe plantains and yucca can be topped with the protein of your choice – chicken, steak, shrimp, crab or even octopus – in garlic or creole sauce. We tried the chicken in creole sauce, ate our fill, and even took some of the rich, creamy goodness home. We topped off our dinner with vanilla flan. InWalking into Pal Campo Restaurant, you are im- stead of a wobbly custard bathed in caramel, we mediately greeted by smiling, friendly staff – and were presented with a creamy, almost cheesea very large “flamboyant” tree. The staff is trained to guide you through the extensive menu offering cuisine from the coastal as well as interior regions of the island. There is plenty of meat and seafood, including a whole fried red snapper, conch and octopus. Definitely island flavor there! Did I mention the huge portions? We could have fed a family with the “Assorted Pal Campo” appetizer. Heavy on meats, it offered marinated pork, chicken cracklings, Puerto Rican sausage, and fried ribs. Coronavirus Reminders With COVID-19 at the top of everyone’s mind, the Pasco Sheriff ’s Office wants to ensure citizens have resources with up-to-date information as well as some ways citizens can protect themselves and others. For the latest information about COVID19, please visit the U.S. Center for Disease Control’s website at CDC.gov. If you suspect you have contracted COVID-19, call your doctor before visiting an office or testing site. They will provide you with details on testing information and will help mitigate your risk of spreading the virus. Even if you do not have symptoms of COVID-19, others may still be at risk. Practicing social distancing by staying at least six feet away from others is a good way to lower the risk of spreading or contracting COVID19. Washing your hands frequently with soap and water or using hand sanitizer consisting of at least 60% alcohol as well as disinfecting surfaces frequently are also great ways to reduce the risk to yourself and others. Unfortunately, there are some criminals who will try to take advantage of those seeking information about COVID-19. Cybercriminals are using citizen concerns to prey on vulnerable citizens by launching phishing attacks or producing false ads. The best way to combat against these scams and get the most accurate information on the coronavirus is to visit credible websites, such as the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC.gov) and the World Health Organization. These sites will never request an email address to access information. Scammers are also attempting to access citizen’s information through phone calls. As
always, be aware of unsolicited phone calls and emails offering unprompted information for your private information in return. If you are unfamiliar with the source, don’t click on any links or attachments sent through emails. Additionally, be cautious when clicking on social media ads. Scammers create ads with false information on coronavirus cures and conspiracies. Additionally, the Pasco Sheriff ’s Charities is now accepting monetary donations for two of Pasco County’s most at-risk populations: children and the elderly. While schools are closed, students that rely on free or reduced meals may be left without an alternate source of food. Many seniors in our community also need the assistance of others for meals and medical expenses. We’re doing our part to help our community members. If you’d like to help, visit PascoSheriffCharities.org/donation. Together, we will get through this pandemic by listening to accurate information, safeguarding ourselves from those looking to take advantage of others, and helping out the greater community. What is the name of this flower?
a. Catesby’s lily b. Pine lily c. Leopard lily d. Southern-red lily e. All of the above The pine lily (Lilium catesbaei) is a native of Florida and the coastal regions of the American Southeast and requires hot, wet, acidic soil including mesic to wet flatwoods, wet prairies, and savannas inhospitable to most other lily species. It is one of North America’s finest species of lily and produces the largest flowers of the genus on this continent. The pine lily goes by all the names in the question above. The pine lily’s rarity may be relatively recent given that historical records indicate that it was once quite abundant in states like Florida. The pine lily appears to be very fickle in choosing its best habitat. Like other members of this genus, the pine lily emerges from a bulb after remaining underground in a dormant state. Some estimate that individual bulbs can remain dormant for upwards of five years before the right conditions for growth and flowering present themselves. Given that the underground storage structure is quite small, most pine lilies operate on marginal stores of energy. Acquiring enough energy for growth and reproduction depends on a proper amount of sunlight. The pine lily lives in a
region of North America that historically would have burned with some frequency. When a wildfire sweeps through an area, it burns away competing vegetation like saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) and clears the ground of accumulated debris like sticks and leaves. Burning away the competition creates open areas where delicate plants like the pine lily can survive. Pine lilies produce more flowers and seed immediately following a ground-clearing burn. A subsequent decline in flowering and seed occurs as the surrounding vegetation begins to grow back. The pine lily provides an important narrative for all fire-dependent ecosystems. In some communities, e.g., scrub, fire intervals tend to be relatively irregular. If disturbance from fire does not happen, biodiversity drops. The pine lily’s fate, as with other delicate and unique plants, is woven into the ecosystem of the coastal plains. If you are lucky enough to see a pine lily, you will experience one of the most stunning flowers in all of North America. The six large, brightly colored petals face up to the sun and taper down into narrow tubes that produce nectar and attract numerous insect visitors such as the palamedes swallowtail butterfly (Papilio palamedes), one of the only species large enough to properly contact both anthers and stigma while feeding at the flowers and doing the task of pollinating. Get out and look for them in the Great Florida Outdoors! Don’t Give Up On God, God Has Not Given Up On You Continued from Page 1
Keith Chandler Pastor, Journey Christian Church
This is the story where God says, “Here are the pieces.” A lot of them don’t make sense to us. We’re trying to figure it out. Then a long time goes by. We just don’t see anything coming together. The puzzle is coming together. Romans 8:28 says, “In all things God works for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose.” Keep putting the pieces of the puzzle together even if you don’t have a picture. “We are hunted down, but we are never abandoned by God.” 2 Corinthians 4:9 NLT Opposition cannot stop us. Romans 8 says, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” “If I really believe God was for me, then I’m not going to give up. I’m not going to stop now. If I really believe God is with me, then I’ll persevere. But how do I know God’s with me?” Romans 8:32 NLT “Since God did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, won’t He also give us everything else?” If this one big thing is true, then doesn’t it mean that all these little things are taken care of? (He makes this argument from greater to lesser) Nothing was more valuable to God than His Son. He gave His only Son for you. Doesn’t it also follow that He’s going to take care of everything else? I’m not looking at my circumstances as evidence the God is with me, but I’m looking to the cross. “Can anything ever separate us from
Christ’s love? Does it mean He no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity? No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.” Romans 8:35-37 NLT Victory has already been won. You’re looking at your current situation and determining God’s love for you in the moment. You’re not fighting for victory; you’re fighting from victory. (It’s already happened) Opposition cannot stop us. “We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.” 2 Corinthians 4:9 NLT That phrase knocked down is this idea of an immediate concern. It’s a sudden emergency. Everything is good…then it’s a latenight phone call, an unexpected diagnosis, a devastating accident. In those moments, we’re knocked down, but we are not destroyed. We get back up. So how can this really be true? It’s because, ultimately, our hope is not in this world. Our hope is in heaven. Paul says, “One day in heaven I’ll look back and all the troubles I went through will seem like nothing.” But Paul doesn’t know what’s going on in my life. He doesn’t get it…be careful there. I’d put his troubles up against your troubles. He was put in prison unjustly many times, beaten with whips and rods, stoned and left for dead, shipwrecked three times, often homeless, hungry, and thirsty. He knew what it was to be cold and naked. He had physical problems he asked God three times to take away from him, and God’s like, “Mmmm…no. My grace is sufficient for you. My power is made perfect in your weakness. You’re a jar of clay, and my power is going to be demonstrated through this going on in your life.” Paul says, “One day in heaven, I’ll look

back and it’ll be no big deal.” C.S. Lewis explains it this way. He says, “In heaven, the door we’ve been knocking on our entire lives will finally be open.” So, you find yourself knocking on the door. “God, would You heal? Would You help? Would You restore?” And in heaven the door we’ve been knocking on opens up. We get knocked down, but we’re not knocked out. Pressure can’t crush us. Uncertainty can’t discourage us. Opposition cannot stop us. Have you ever thought about giving up on God, and why? Was the real answer because you were convinced God had given up on you? (We can’t blame Him) We’re cracked and broken jars of clay. Why would He want anything to do with us? That’s probably where some of you are. You’re not going to give Him a chance to reject you. You’ll just reject Him first. How many times have you promised God, “Never again”? How many years have we done things our own way? How many people around you have you hurt? How many jars of clay around you have you broken?
I don’t think God would want anything to do with me. There’s a story in the Old Testament where God wants to communicate His love and faithfulness. He tells Hosea to go to the redlight district, find a prostitute named Gomer, buy her from her pimp and bring her back home, marry her, and make her his wife. Hosea does what God asks. It seems to be working out. He seems to love her. Then one day he comes home and Gomer has left. He runs back and finds her in the arms of another man. Hosea is broken. God, what am I supposed to do? God says, “I want you to bring her home again, and love her again.” Why? Hosea 3:1 “So that the people will know how much I love them.” So listen to me. You may have given up on God, but God has not given up on you. Until next month, Keith 7708 Van Dyke Rd, Odessa 813-920-0442 Services Sunday at 10:00 www.tampajourney.com facebook.com/tampajourney

powers will try to outlaw Christianity, and fast-growing, antiChrist movements will boast they’ll rule the world and destroy Jesus’ followers. The Bible says this about it all: “The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us” (Psalm 2:2–3). In short, “Let’s cast away all moral hindrances, all moral landmarks of the past.” Here is God’s reaction to these earthly powers and demoninfluenced men: “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision” (2:4). No matter how desperate things look, everything remains under God’s full control. I’m thankful for this word from the Psalms. More and more, we hear reports of secularism wiping out the evangelical church in Europe; of Islam being the fastest growing religion in the world; of homosexuals hijacking entire denominations; of Christ’s church growing so weak it no longer has any impact on society. Yet God’s Word declares, “On Christ the Rock God will build His church.” “The gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18).

Nothing from the bowels of hell can hope to destroy Christ’s church. His eye is always on His people, and through everything He warns Satan and his hordes, “Do not touch the apple of My eye.” “Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake” (Isaiah 54:15). Do you see what God is saying here? “The devil is going to come at you. Enemies out of hell will gather together against you. But Satan will not succeed.”

When my personal training career started in this area over 17 years ago, Mark Dunn called me and asked if I wanted to be a part of their paper. I was new in business in this area and knew I had to get my name out there, so this was the first media outlet I had ever advertised in. As people started to hear about what I offered, through THIS paper, my name started to get out in the community, and in a few years I became the #1 producing personal trainer in the large gym I was in, out of 2,000 trainers! When it was time to go out on my own, God used THIS paper to give me the confidence that I could find clients outside of that gym. I knew I must, because I wanted to create an environment for women that didn’t want to be in a gym. That wanted a safe place they could work out and not feel judged. I also enjoy catering to Christian women who liked that our studio cared about that. Now we have trained over 6,000 people, have 17 trainers, won the Small Business of the Year Award by the Chamber, give free seminars to the community, and started a meal prep service delivered to your home. We opened our 5th location in Palm Harbor, and we just moved our Wesley Chapel location into a new building that we own. We also have Land O Lakes, Carrollwood, Westchase, and more to come! I thank God for bringing this paper into my life, and I am SO grateful, for they helped give me the original confidence that I could build this business, and look what its turned into and the amount of people we serve! The owners, Mark and Kay, are some the nicest, most genuine people you’ll ever meet and I appreciate how they honor Jesus Christ in this paper. It’s such a blessing to partner with them, and I’m happy to know that I am the longest advertiser in the last 17 years!
