We seek power, we built empires, and we connect to one man’s life and death that will touch the lives of millions and transform the destiny of an empire, which will change the story of all of us forever. In the midst of the chaos of an unforgiving planet, most species will fail but for one. All the pieces will fall into place and present the keys that will unlock the path for mankind to triumph. This is our story, the story of all of us. In Jerusalem 33 A.D., a provincial city occupied for a hundred years under Roman rule, is a man that has been sentenced to death. Today he will be executed, but his death will launch a global religion, for today one third of mankind worships in his name, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Jerusalem is on the eastern edge of the Roman Empire and connects to a vast network of roads that lead to trade routes. One of the keys of man’s progress is mass communication. In the Middle

East, an idea was born, spreading around the Roman world to a half million people. A Jewish festival called Passover was held in Jerusalem, and among their followers is Jesus, who they believe to be the Messiah, but his teaching threatens the order of the Roman Empire, and for that he must be crucified. Rome has its special punishment for pirates, slaves, and enemies of the state, which is crucifixion. Thousands of people died this way, but we only remember one man, and only one man. Because of this one man’s death, it changed every part of every portion in every corner of the earth. How She Gets Results

Samantha Taylor Pure Health & Fitness Studios There is such power in what we believe we can accomplish. I have always heard, “If you believe you can, you are right... if you believe you can’t, you are right.” After training 4,000 women, I have truly learned that the women that get amazing results have a few things in common. 1) She is fed up with where she is at, it is no longer acceptable. 2) She takes responsibility for where she is but also for where she wants to be with her body. 3) She sets her mind to do something about it. 4) She understands the power of getting focused on her end goal. 5) She doesn’t make excuses for why she isn’t getting results. 6) She takes action and feels empowered by that action. 7) She sees the value in getting help when she is not having success on her own. 8) She knows when she looks in that mirror, the person looking back at her is the one who is in charge of her daily choices. No blaming others for her lack of success, so she celebrates her choices as her own.

9) She keeps focused through the long haul, through the tough times and perseveres. 10) She celebrates and embraces small improvements that in the end lead to huge victory. That is a woman who sees true results and has great success in her life. Maybe you can relate to some of those or maybe you can’t relate to any of them and need help. That is why it is powerful to be connected with a group of women that can support you and give you the tools you need to have success. Breast Health Awareness Month

Maria Belluccio, D.O.M., A.P., R.N.

As the fall season approches , we may look back at our summer activities, vacations, and down time and wonder what happened to our routine of self-care. Did you find yourself exercising less, eating more and generally letting things go that you would otherwise be disciplined about during somewhat normal times? Now that the kids are back in school and vacation time has passed, we may be looking at what is important to do as part of our preventative healthcare maintenance program. Maybe an annual check- up or a colonoscopy is on your mind. Since I’m an advocate for women’s health, what comes to mind is the consciousness surrounding October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month and all of its media exposure. I would like to see the month instead titled Breast Health Awareness Month. The emphasis would be on prevention and ways we can detect early changes in the breast. I’ve been offering Digital Infrared Thermal imaging in my practice for almost 14 years and encourage women to make thermography part of their annual healthcare exam. It can detect hormonal imbalances, lymphatic congestion, infection, and early vascular changes that could result in pathological changes in the breasts. We know that breast cancer is largely due to estrogen dominance. Along with thermography, there are

many ways we can evaluate a women’s risk of estrogen-related cancers and then offer guidance on how to reduce that risk. I encourage every woman from her early 20’s to well into her 70’s to seek out a certified and experienced thermographer. There are some guidelines you want to follow in finding the best thermography services available in our community. Ask questions regarding the training of the thermographer. Was she trained by an accredited organization in thermology? Who is reading the scans? Doctors should be board certified in thermology if they are to read scans. Does the camera have the most sophisticated technology and software? How experienced is the thermographer? Do they instruct the patient in the appropriate protocol to follow prior to having the scan? Do they offer a controlled environment to insure scan sensitivity and accuracy These are all important considerations when choosing a center that offers thermography services. As a holistic practitioner and doctor of Oriental medicine, I encourage my patients to be proactive in their healthcare. There are so many steps we can take to be healthy and vibrant women well into our elderly years. Take the first step toward optimal health by making an appointment for a thermogram. In October, Lotus Path Wellness Center will be offering 10% off breast thermograms to celebrate Breast Health Awareness Month. Please call 813-964-0847 to schedule an appointment. Invest in your health and well- being! Find out more about my practice at www.LotusPathWellness.com. Lotus Path Wellness Center 3642 Madaca Lane Carrollwood Phone: 813-964-0847

Tampa Bay Area—A new report has just been released which reveals 7 costly mistakes that most homeowners make when selling their homes, and a 9 Step System that can help you sell your home fast and for the most amount of money. This industry report shows clearly how the traditional ways of selling homes have become increasingly less and less effective in today’s market. What Does The Fox Say? Article and photo by Jeffrey Neil Fox

We are in full swing in the 2014 NFL football season. Optimism has to prevail, and many football purists are predicting that our hometown Tampa Bay Buccaneers will still be standing at the end of the season and make it to the playoffs. It’s been a long time since the Buccaneers have had an extended season and have emptied their lockers after the final game of the season. If Coach Lovie Smith diligently prepares his Buccaneer players for each and every game and win, the players will not have to look over their shoulders. The team will be in the driver’s seat of their postseason destiny. Win, win, win, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will make a return trip to the Super Bowl and make room for another coveted Silver Vince Lombardi Super Bowl Trophy at team headquarters. It’s not too early to dream about another chance to play in the Super Bowl. Every roster player has to have the goal of a Super Bowl ring foremost on their mind. The Buccaneers are positioned to play competitive football. There have been wholesale roster changes along with a new general manager, coach, and front office personnel. The team logo and uniforms have changed. Speculation is rampant as to the on-field results from all the drastic changes that have been made. The jury is still out, but you just have to be hopeful and positive that our Buccaneers will play competitive football each and every game.

It does look like the Buccaneers have addressed all their needs in free agency, the rookie draft, and trades in a gallant attempt to field a competitive team. Hopefully, the backup players on the depth chart will be ready to perform at a high level at a moment’s notice. Injuries plague every NFL team, and those teams that have backup players ready to perform are the ones that go deep in the playoffs and ultimately win the Super Bowl. The good news is that none of the team’s home games will be blacked out this year. So Buccaneer fans will no longer lose continuity in following their hometown team. Not everyone is able to afford or make it to Raymond James Stadium to root and watch the team play for home games. Now everyone that has access to a TV will be able to watch all the games in the comfort of their home or at a sports bar watch party. I’m looking forward to the game when they induct Derrick Brooks into the Buccaneers Ring of Honor this season. Brooks will join Lee Roy Selmon, Jimmy Giles, Warren Sapp, John McKay, and Paul Gruber in the Ring and have his name in neon channel letters inside the stadium. Brooks was recently inducted into the prestigious Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. He joined his fellow teammate Warren Sapp and football legend Lee Roy Selmon. It’s good to see that some of the history of the Buccaneers franchise is being preserved for generations of Buccaneer fans to come. You just cannot change history, but the best is yet to come. Play Golf Using a Pogo Stick Leg Action

Rick Bradshaw PGA Professional/GM The right leg in the golf swing represents a major source of power. The loading of potential energy into the right foot, calf, thigh and gluteus could be compared to the image of a pogo stick loading energy and then springing up into the air. Thousands of golfers are plagued by hanging back on the right side and not transferring body weight into their left foot and leg as they swing the golf club. This flaw in their swing can be corrected by pivoting or rotating both their hips and shoulders into the resistance of a flexed right knee and virtually slanted right leg on the back swing. Look at the pogo stick image and notice it is slanted to the right. This image is what you should have in your mind as

you rotate on your back swing and picture your leg as this pogo stick By turning into the right leg ,your spikes will grab the ground and build up energy just like a baseball pitcher builds up energy by turning into the rubber on the mound. I truly feel as if I am being shot out of a cannon off my right foot as I swing through the shot. My students always tell me they have difficulty getting through the shot, but once I show them how to load energy, they no longer have a problem transferring their weight on the through swing. Remember to maintain a flex in the right knee during this action. If you are not sure why, walk around the house with your right knee locked back with no flex like Chester in the old TV show Gunsmoke. And be sure to yell “Mr. Dillon! Mr. Dillon!” twice. Seriously, load your right leg for enhanced power in your golf swing. Happy Golfing! Enjoying Everyday Life on the Way to Where I’m Going

Captain Ric’s Fish Tales Reel Simple Fishing Adventures

Jon Delucia with an overslot redfish he caught while fishing with Captain Ric Liles recently in Tampa Bay.

The big question lately seems to be, “Are we going to escape it, or are we going to get it? “Red tide” is the focus of the question. All “red tide” is when microscopic algae produce a toxin that kills fish. You will know when you are in an area that this is happening because it will become harder to breathe and your throat will get a scratchy feeling to it. You will most likely see a lot of dead fish as well. That’s the real giveaway. “Red tide” gives us a double whammy when it arrives. After the initial destruction of the toxins produced by the algae, the algae will die. This depletes the oxygen from the water as the algae decompose and decay resulting in more dead fish. It’s been about ten years since we had our last big “red tide” outbreak, and it wasn’t a good situation. With the algae bloom lurking out in the gulf northwest of the bay area, it is certainly a reason to have caution. I know it sounds all doom and gloom, but it’s not as bad as you may think. Fish do move away from the oxygen-depleted water and find suitable surroundings. I suppose it’s sort of like a deer and a forest fire.

I ran charter trips thru the last big outbreak and caught fish as usual. The secret is to not get married to any particular area or style of fishing. Be diversified in your angling approach and you will find and catch fish. That’s not saying you will not have to work harder for them because you will definitely do that. That’s the positive spin. The negative to that is when fish get pinned in and trapped by the bloom or oxygendepleted water. There are times when the fish cannot get away in time and the kill becomes eminent. That was the case in Sarasota Bay years ago when we got our dose of “red tide” in the bay area. Pretty much all of Sarasota Bay was a dead zone and unfishable. I remember fishing the south end of Tampa Bay and smelling the results of the destruction all the way from Sarasota Bay when we had strong NNE winds. Our fishing at the present time is pretty good as we are starting to see the late summer early fall invasion of redfish. The redfish bite should stay good for at least a couple more months. The snook, snapper, and shark bite is good right now. The only real negative for me lately has been the trout bite. Most of the trout we are catching are between 13” and 15”. Almost big enough to keep. We’ve been able to scratch out a couple keepers to take home every day, but only a few. I must be in the wrong spot right now for trout. Until next time, good luck and be safe on the water. Remember: don’t let your kid be the one that got away, take them fishing. For charter information, call (813) 601-2900, email CaptainRic@msn.com, or visit the website at www.ReelSimpleFishing.com.

Opposing Kingdoms

Dr. Dan Coflin Pastor, River of Life Church There is no need to try and convince people we live in a very dangerous world. Conflicts among nations, tribes, and governments, shootings, civil conflict, genocide, and on and on it goes. Twenty-four hours a day, we can hear news in real time. We can watch the battles as they happen and see the gory aftermath of mankind’s rage. The death and destruction inflicted on one group by another brings no satisfaction or solution to the rage that started the conflict in the first place. Why is the world so crazy? The answer is pretty simple. It begins with the origin of a kingdom. In the tenth and eleventh chapters of the Book of Genesis, a man named Nimrod founded the first kingdom mentioned in Scripture. Babylon was identified as a tower built by people in opposition to God. Their purpose was thwarted when God confused their language and they could no longer communicate with one another. Though their efforts were temporarily stopped, the rebellion in their hearts drove them to build kingdoms of their own. For centuries the term Babylonian system refers to man’s efforts to build a kingdom for his own purpose and one that only includes gods of his own making. Beginning in Luke 1:32 is a description of Jesus as the Son of the Highest whose kingdom is eternal. When Jesus went to Galilee it is said, “he preached the gospel (good

news) of the kingdom of God” (Mk. 1:14). When Jesus ministered to people in need, he oftentimes mentioned that the kingdom of God had come to them. Paul, writing to the Colossian church, showed those in Christ had been delivered out of the kingdom of darkness and ushered into the kingdom of God. Paul also describes the kingdom of God as righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17). The kingdom of God is contrasted throughout the Bible as light instead of darkness, love instead of hatred, joy instead of sorrow, blessing instead of cursing and good instead of evil. We should never be confused which kingdom is at work. The Apostle John writes, “God is light and in him there is no darkness.” John also encourages us to “love one another, for love is of God and everyone that loves is born of God and knows God. He that does not love does not know God, for God is love.” God promises us that there will come a day when all the kingdoms of this world, this old Babylonian system, will fail and the Lord Jesus will rule forever and ever as King of an everlasting kingdom. The hatred and jealousy fueled by man’s rebellion will be no more, and God’s kingdom will come and His will will be done in earth as it is in heaven (Mt. 6:10). Which kingdom are you living in? Dr. Dan Coflin and his wife Dianne are Senior Pastors of River of Life Church in Lutz. Sunday service at 10:30. 410 E. Chapman Rd., Lutz www.lcus.edu (813) 909-9720

ROME, THE FIRST MEGA CITY a guy in Jerusalem as a procession was going by and found himself surrounded by Roman soldiers. One of them pointed and said, “You there, help him carry his cross.” Now we got a common guy on the street that is now involved in the most pitiful moment in history.

It can take three days to die on the cross from blood loss, shock, dehydration, and suffocation. Crucifixions were so common back then that the Romans barely even registered Jesus’ death. Luke 23:32-34: They crucified him there, along with the criminals.” Except for his friends and family. They turned out to have the power to transform the entire Roman Empire and change the course of human history. Profoundly more than any other event over the past 2,000 years, the followers of Jesus will retell his story and spread his message over 1,400 miles from Jerusalem to the imperial capital of Rome. It is one of the largest cities on earth, population 1 million. It was two and a half times more densely populated than modern Manhattan, but 18 years after the crucifixion, a series of droughts created a food shortage. Over 200,000 tons of grain are needed each year or the Roman people will starve, and one out of five is already on welfare. Rome’s ruler was Emperor Claudius. Disabled and insecure, he was the most powerful man in the Western world. All Emperors had to please the populace by bringing home

the bacon, in a manner of speaking. But Claudius had to try harder than other rulers to legitimize his rule. Emperor Claudius was regarded as a god, but he still needed the support of his people to stay in power, so he ordered handouts for the poor. However, there was not enough bread to go around. John 6:35 / Mark 8:1-8 / Matthew 14:13-21: Verses about enough bread to go around. Riots were part of life in Rome, and it was a way for people to get their message across to their Emperor. The previous Emperor, Caligula, ignored their plea and was subsequently assassinated. Worried that riots would break out, especially after the crucifixion of Jesus, Claudius knew he could be next. So the best way for him to win over the public was to build. Eight miles from the city, Claudius started one of the largest engineering projects in the Roman Empire. This mighty Aqueduct carried water to the city of Rome. Carved through 45 miles of countryside, they tunneled through mountains and built bridges of vast structure across the huge amounts of space without dynamite or any kind of modern tools. And yet they were so wellbuilt that 1,500 years later after the end of their civilization, those structures are still standing today. The Aqueduct was powered by gravity and it needed to drop 1 foot for every 300 feet. If it was too steep, the water would over

flow, and if it was too shallow, it would run dry. Precision engineering was the secret to Roman construction. A revolution of new building material was needed to mold into hard rock: concrete! Ever since the Romans, we’ve been living in a concrete age, and the key ingredient to Romans’ concrete was volcanic ash. Rome is surrounded by 50 volcanoes and today, two thirds of mankind now lives in buildings made of concrete. The Aqueduct cost equivalently eighty-three billion dollars, ten times more than the Hoover dam.

Imagine the people coming to the Roman Empire for their first time and seeing the massive engineering project. It was advertising Roman power, and it was a Dunndeal. To let everyone know who built this giant monument, the Emperor named it after himself: “Aqua Claudia,” the water from Claudius. It would take 14 years to build and over 400,000 blocks of stone as well as 6,000,000 sq ft. of concrete. Its Aqueducts would deliver 250,000,000 gallons of water a day, enough for 1,300 fountains, 900 basins, and 144 public toilets, which made Rome one of the most advanced cities in the world. There were six-story high apartment buildings, each with up to 380 residents. Under the roads were sewage systems that swept away 500 tons of waste a day. Rome maintained a police force, a fire brigade, postal service, 30 libraries, 3 theaters, and 80

temples. Rome, the world’s first mega city. Today, for the first time in history, over half of us live in cities. Across the world, there are 21 cities with a population above 10 million, based on the blueprint pioneered by Rome 2,000 years ago. However, Rome was more than just a city, it was an empire that spread its civilization across Europe and beyond. Luke 20:27-33: “Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” 10 Awesome Biblical Miracles “Let There Be Light” Genesis 1:3 “The Resurrection” John 11:25 “Joshua Stops the Sun” Joshua 10:13-14 “Jesus Raises Lazarus from the Dead” John 11:38-44 “Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand” Matthew 14:13-21 “Crossing of the Red Sea” Exodus 41:21 “Balaam and his Talking Donkey” Numbers 22:21 “Jesus Walks on Water” Matthew 14:27-29 “Ten Plagues of Egypt” Exodus 7:14-18 “Jesus Exorcises Legion” Mark 6:2-13 See the full version on the History Channel—Mankind, The Story of All of Us - Episode 3/12: Empires: http://www.history.com/shows/mankind-the-story-of-all-of-us/videos/mankind-the-story-of-all-of-us-empires?m=5189 717d404fa&s=All&f=1&free=false

A large part of Florida’s landscape appeal is the array of palm trees dotting the sandy shores and lawns of our Sunshine State. Many residents and communities choose to cultivate these native trees and soon learn caring for a palm—any palm—requires a specialist! Regular tree services often charge extra for palms with less than satisfying results, and most lawn companies won’t touch a palm. Here in the Tampa Bay area, Just Palms provides that specialized service! Palm Tree trimming, care, and cleaning is all they do; they specialize in Queens, Washingtonians and Roebellinis. Just Palms is locally owned and operated, licensed, and insured. Just Palms owner Chris Tillman has served our area since 2005 and is recommended on Angie’s List. His company provides both free estimates and warranties. Tillman and his staff are English-speaking. Call in an expert and a dedicated palm tree specialist to provide your beautiful palms with qualified care. Check out additional information and photos at the website online at https://www.facebook.com/JustPalms and call Just Palms at 813-598-0755 to protect your palms and your investment!

The Caregiver Corner It’s hurricane aeason. For those of us caring for a family member that is disabled, recovering from a hospital stay, or a senior adult that can’t get around much anymore, having a plan and acting on it is doubly important. They have very special needs and if you don’t plan ahead, the effect of a storm on them could be extremely disruptive. • You should have a 30-day supply of medications on hand and extra copies of your prescriptions. • Water is extremely important to all of us but especially important for senior adults. As we age, we do not handle the heat as well. • If you are in an evacuation zone, you may be required to evacuate by law. If you have to evacuate, chances are the

emergency authorities may restrict access to your community after the storm to just those that live in the area. You will need to supply them with proof of residence (driver’s license, copy of a recent utility bill, etc.). If you have a family member or hired professional coming to assist you in caring for your loved one, they may need some kind of written note from you proving they should be allowed into the neighborhood. • If you are going to be leaving the state, you may want to check to determine how your loved one’s health insurance works in the state to which you are traveling. • Seniors with Alzheimer’s (or children with autism) need structure and routine. Planning ahead is vital. • Catastrophic events can be very unsettling for those suf-

fering from Alzheimer’s. Try to minimize their exposure to TV and radio broadcasts that constantly delve on the storm • Manual can openers are a must. • Don’t forget your pets, too. They need to be planned for, too. • For more resources, please see the full article on our Facebook page at GriswoldHomeCare-Tampa The Caregiver Corner is coordinated by Arthur Moseley. Arthur and his wife, Frieda, are the owners of the Tampa and Pasco Offices of Griswold Home Care, one of the area’s leading providers of non-medical private pay home care services.
