getting ready GENERAL TRAIL TIPS • Most DuPage County forest preserves are open daily from one hour after sunrise until one hour after sunset. • Leave room on the trail for others to pass. Single file is best for groups on busy days. • Dogs are welcome but must be on leashes less than 10 feet long. Always clean up after your pet. • Always bring water. On longer trips, consider packing snacks, bug spray and sunscreen. • If there’s snow on the trails, please do not walk or ride in set ski tracks. • Don’t litter. Pack out what you pack in. • Be aware of wildlife. Remember, you are a visitor in their habitat. • In an emergency, dial 911.

BIKERS • Only ride on designated trails and travel in a controlled, consistent manner. Be especially careful around curves and in parking lots. • Always ride single file on the right side of the trail. When passing, alert visitors ahead with a polite call of “passing on your left.” • Be careful around horses, which may startle easily. Give them ample room. Do not pass horses on bridges.

HORSEBACK RIDERS • Keep your horse under control at all times. Racing is strictly prohibited. • Do not ride in picnic areas, campgrounds, off-leash dog areas, model-craft areas or other areas as posted. • Refrain from riding on wet or muddy trails. • Only use wheeled carts less than 4 feet wide. • Whenever safely possible, please clean up after your horse.

The main entrance is on Northgate Road. From I-55, take Cass Avenue 0.5 mile south to Northgate Road. Turn right on Northgate, and go 400 feet to the lot. To reach the waterfall parking lot, take Cass Avenue 1.5 miles south of Northgate Road to Bluff Road. Take Bluff Road 0.3 mile east to the lot. A third parking lot is on the east side of Lemont Road, 1 mile south of I-55.
