MALDON & TIPTREE vs FELIXSTOWE & WALTON UNITED
IN CHARGE:
WAYNE BROWN GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME TO PARK DRIVE. I WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO STUART AND HIS TEAM, ALONG WITH THE FELIXSTOWE SUPPORTERS AND TODAY’S MATCH OFFICIALS. Within the last week, we have faced two tough games against Grays and Canvey Island respectively and I expect today to be no different. Against Grays, I was disappointed with our first half performance, we lost too many individual battles and this was the second match in a row, after our game against Brentwood. When we went down to ten men, it seemed to give us a lease of life, we started to play and that was encouraging, however it should not take a man to be sent off for this to happen. I was disappointed to concede an equaliser so late in to the game, but the boys showed real character and handled the pressure of the penalty shoot-out superbly. Considering the clubs record in penalty shoot-outs, I was pleased with the end result – I think I have been involved with six penalty shoot-outs during my time as manager and that was only the second time we have won. As everybody knows, we have a young team this year, but the penalties showed brilliant composure and a special mention to Ben McNamara who went the right way for a number of the Grays spot-kicks and provided the important save which was vital in us progressing. With the draw for the next round now confirmed, we have been handed a real good fixture against a Braintree side, two divisions above us and very local to us. It will be a tough test for our side, however that is the beauty of the FA Cup, when you progress it gives you the opportunity to test yourself against opponents from a higher division. At the moment, it is a real shame that the match
will be played behind closed doors and that our supporters can’t be with us. On Tuesday night, I thought we played very well against a strong Canvey Island side. We dominated possession and we won individual battles from the first minute of the match against a much fancied side for promotion this season. Mark has assembled a really good side for this campaign, but I thought we restricted Canvey to very few chances and in the end, we perhaps could have won more convincingly than by the one goal. Today’s fixture against Felixstowe will be a tough game, especially as they picked up a good point against Coggeshall last week. We played Stuart’s side a lot last season, however both sides have made numerous changes to their squads over the summer, but I know Felixstowe will be well organised and we will have to be on top of our game to ensure we continue our unbeaten start to the season. Lastly, I wanted to finish with a word for Ed Garty. Last week, Ed announced he is stepping down from his role of Chairman. The backing that I and the team have received from Ed whilst I have been in charge of the team is phenomenal and we are extremely grateful for all of his support over the last couple of seasons. I wish Ed all the very best for the future and I look forward to seeing him at games in the future. Enjoy the game, Wayne

SATURDAY 3RD OCTOBER | EMIRATES FA CUP SECOND ROUND QUALIFYING | ATT: 251 MALDON & TIPTREE WIN 5-4 ON PENALTIES Maldon & Tiptree secured a place in the third round qualifying of the Emirates FA Cup, thanks to a penalty shoot-out win over Grays Athletic. Manager, Wayne Brown made one change from last week’s draw against Brentwood, with Adam Vyse handed a place in the starting eleven in place of Shomari Barnwell. Following a period of absence, Kraig Noel-McLeod and Makosini Khanye returned to the substitute’s bench. After a prolonged period of rain, the Park Drive pitch passed an 11am pitch inspection, having held up remarkably despite the recent weather. Early on in the first half, Scott Kemp collected a yellow card after a 50-50 challenge with Grays Goalkeeper, Danny Sambridge. The first real chance of the affair fell to midfielder Aaron William-Bushell, but Sambridge was able to save comfortably. Whilst Grays dominated possession, they struggled to breakdown the Jammers defence, marshalled by captain, Martyn Stokes. Their first chance arrived to the dangerous, Joao Carlos however he planted his header wide, when really he should have tested Goalkeeper, Ben McNamara. In what was a real noneventful first half, it was Maldon who created the most chances with Kemp and Adam Vyse having a couple of chances to open the scoring, without success.

MALDON & TIPTREE vs FELIXSTOWE & WALTON UNITED
With the first half not offering much, the second half was completely different, in a crazy opening 15 minutes. In the 52nd minute, Adam Vyse opened his account for the Jammers, scoring his first goal for the club. Smart play from Kemp on the right flank, created the opportunity to cross the ball in to the box - the cross, which took a slight deflection landed perfectly on to the head of Vyse, who headed home beyond Sambridge, who stood little chance. However, things got extremely harder for the Jammers, just two minutes later when Kemp was shown a second yellow card, for an apparent push and was given his marching orders by the Referee.
Having been behind for five minutes, with a man advantage for 3 minutes, Grays equalised. A smart and sweeping move, with quick interchanging passes, Carlos put through Captain, Mitchell Hahn through on goal and Hahn was able to bend his effort in to the bottom corner. With the man disadvantage, Wayne Brown made two changes in quick succession with Niran Butler & Thomas Stagg coming on for Rhamar Garrett-Doughlas and Adam Vyse, respectively. The changes appeared to give the Jammers the upper hand, when Hamza Kaid had a chance to put his side in the lead for the second time; however Sambridge was on hand to make the save. Despite the extra man, Grays struggled to break down a stubborn Maldon defence and failed to force McNamara into a save. It was the Jammers who continued to create chances, with Stagg providing a cross for Kaid, who was just not taller enough to latch on to it.
with virtually the last kick of the match and force the tie to penalty-shoot out. Grays took the first penalty and both sides scored their first two penalties with Sam Coombes and Khanye converting for the Jammers. The third penalty for the away side was superbly saved by Goalkeeper, Ben McNamara to hand Brown’s men the advantage in the shoot-out. Stagg stepped up next for the Jammers, dispatching his spot kick with confidence; Grays scored their fourth, matched by a brilliant spotkick from William-Bushell. Knowing they had to score their fifth penalty to stay in the contest, Goalkeeper Sambridge stepped up, despite McNamara getting a hand Sambridge’s penalty, it creped in to the net. Defender Billy Cracknell stepped knowing that if he scored, he would place the Jammers in to the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup for the second season in a row and that he did, as he drilled his effort in to the corner of the net to put the Jammers in the hat for the next round.
But, in the 86th minute the home side got their reward. After a driving run and superb cross from Bradley McClenaghan, Stagg and Grays defender, Moroyin Omolabi challenged for the ball inside the six yard box, which resulted in Omolabi slicing his clearance, in to his own net, past a helpless Sambridge. The Jammers thought they had secured their place in the 3rd Qualifying Round. Grays on the other hand, had other ideas. As the match somehow drifted in to the 95th minute, the away side won a corner. With 21 players in the Maldon box, the initial effort was blocked on the line, but Joe Paxman was on hand to scramble the ball in to the net

THANK YOU ED GARTY Last week, after over ten years at the helm, Ed Garty announced he is stepping down from his position as club Chairman. As many people will know, Maldon & Tiptree was formed by Ed himself in 2010, following the amalgamation of Maldon Town & Tiptree United. During his spell of ownership, of all three clubs, there have been plenty of achievements, mainly with Tiptree United & Maldon & Tiptree. With Tiptree United, managed by Colin Wallington, Ed won the Eastern Counties Division One title in the 2007/08 season.

“ED, THANK YOU FOR AN ENJOYABLE FEW YEARS– THE SUPPORT YOU HAVE GIVEN THE CLUB HAS BEEN TREMENDOUS. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE NOT ONLY FOR THE CLUB, BUT FOR THE LOCAL AREA TOO.” ROGER STAPLETON, CLUB SECRETARY
“I’VE KNOWN ED FOR ONLY A SHORT TIME, BUT FROM THE FIRST MOMENT I MET WITH HIM I WAS SOLD ON HIS PASSION, POSITIVITY AND ASPIRATIONS FOR THE CLUB. IN ITS SHORT HISTORY THE CLUB HAS GONE FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH, ALL UNDER HIS LEADERSHIP, SOMETHING HE AND HIS FAMILY SHOULD BE EXTREMELY PROUD OF.” RON DANGERFIELD, CLUB GENERAL MANAGER
Since the Jammers formed in 2010, there have been memorable wins over our rivals Heybridge Swifts, plenty of title run-ins, last season’s fabulous FA Cup run and of course, various unfortunate, play-off finals. One thing is for sure, without Ed’s backing, the club would not have reached the highs it has over the years and everybody at the club is extremely grateful for what Ed and also his family have done for the club. Over the years, Ed has overseen over 500 games as Chairman, managed three games himself during an interim time as First Team Manager, has seen his side score over 1030 goals, has witnessed over 335 players appear for the club, has appointed nine different managers, has had two vice-chairman and two club secretaries. Everybody at the club wishes Ed well for the future and we look forward to seeing him at our home and away games in the future.

WHEN DID YOU PLAY FOR THE JAMMERS AND WHO WAS IN CHARGE? I signed for the club in 2015, when David Wright was in charge of the club. Once David departed for Colchester United, I played under Steve Ball & Kevin Horlock. BEST PLAYER YOU PLAYED WITH WHILST WITH MALDON? That’s a tough one to answer and not sure I can pick one. There was some outstanding talent during my time, both young and experienced. I’m going to have to name a few and let the fans out there discuss them further... Femi Akinwande, Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe and Sam Newson came straight to mind but also Montel Agyemang who was one of the most talented and nice chaps you could wish to meet. Then there’s Liam Nash, Billy Roast and many others. One thing’s for sure, we fell short with those kind of players. WHAT IS YOUR BEST MEMORY, WHILST PLAYING FOR THE CLUB? There were many and every time I went out as captain, I cherished and embraced it. For me though, the play off semifinal win against Haringey in 2017 was pretty special. The game was unreal and a great occasion with a lot of local people in the stands.

WHAT IS YOUR WORST MEMORY WHILST PLAYING FOR THE JAMMERS? Losing to Thurrock in the 2017 play-off final. Probably the worst way to finish season. What made it worse was we didn’t turn up in what was a really horrible game. AWAY FROM PARK DRIVE, YOUR MOST ENJOYABLE MOMENT IN FOOTBALL? I’ve been lucky to have a few and yet again, it’s tough to pick. Scoring in the 1st round of the FA Cup in my debut season for Exeter was great as well as a few special moments in the League and Cups for Chelmsford. There was also a few promotions with Team Bath that are hard to overlook... like I said, I’ve had an enjoyable time playing. WHAT TEAM ARE YOU PLAYING FOR NOW? OR IF YOU’VE STOPPED PLAYING, WHAT ARE YOU UP TO, THESE DAYS? I’m not playing at the moment following a bit of club hopping in the last couple years. They are hung up (for now) while I concentrate my efforts on my business and family. I started my own company supporting businesses with their wellbeing provision and have a beautiful 1-year old who is keeping me on my toes. I never say never and have had a few offers in the last few weeks... so I might step back in some capacity, player, coach or manager.
“THE PLAY OFF SEMI-FINAL WIN AGAINST HARINGEY IN 2017 WAS PRETTY SPECIAL. THE GAME WAS UNREAL AND A GREAT OCCASION” MALDON & TIPTREE vs FELIXSTOWE & WALTON UNITED

BRAINTREE NEXT UP IN FA CUP

Meanwhile, two new faces have been added to Wayne Brown’s squad, both arriving on loan from Colchester United.
The Jammers have been drawn away to National League South side Braintree Town in the third round qualifying of this Season’s Emirates FA Cup. Maldon & Tiptree progressed to this stage with a 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Grays Athletic last weekend and will now travel to Cressing Road this Tuesday, 13th October, for a 7.45pm kick-off. Felixstowe & Walton United Football Club aka ‘The Seasiders’ were formed in 2000 following the merger of Felixstowe Town and Walton United. Formed in 1895, Walton United played at The Recreation ground in Recreation Way Walton while Felixstowe Town, formed five years earlier played at The Town Ground, Dellwood Avenue. The amalgamation in 2000 looked a good marriage for the right reasons. Walton United had just won the Suffolk Senior Cup and were on the up but with nowhere to go as the Recreation ground at Walton could not accommodate Eastern Counties League standard facilities. Felixstowe Town had been renamed Felixstowe Port & Town due to their sponsorship by the Port, but when that was withdrawn in 1999/2000 it left the Town club struggling to recover and maintain Eastern Counties League football. It looked and proved to be a good decision by both clubs that they therefore merged with Dellwood Avenue becoming their home venue. It was a struggle in the early years after the merger with relegation coming in 2002, but it offered the chance for the club to regroup
and focus on the future with a growing youth set up and getting the basics right off the pitch and the club regained Premier Division status in 2006 when they finished runners up in Division One. Tied by what can be done at their present home the club always found it difficult to compete with the top sides in the Premier Division with what was the unique task of raising and lowering of the floodlights before and after games and the restrictions placed on the club by the local authorities. The Seasiders remained positive throughout and now have the lights permanently erected during the football season and have an excellent youth set up including junior non-competitive youngsters at under 8 plus four girls sides and provide sporting facilities on The Peninsula from six through to adulthood. At the end of the 2016/17 season a new clubhouse opened up pitch side to replace the old one which has transformed the club and by the end of the 2017/18 season, the Seasiders gained promotion to the Isthmian North Division at Step 4 for the first time in the clubs history and finished a respectable mid-table position.

He started his career at Colchester United before playing for Wroxham, AFC Sudbury and spent time on loan at Brantham Athletic last season. DANIEL DAVIS CENTRE BACK - With over 300 appearances for the club ‘Denzil’ is a powerful centre back with a no nonsense approach to the game. Great in the air and a strong tackler. JORDAN MATTHEWS
CALLUM BENNETT RIGHT BACK - Callum is in his second spell at the club having re-joined in late 2018. An attacking full back with one of the best ball deliveries in nonleague football. Callum has plenty of experience from his time at Ipswich U18s, Stoke City U21s and Notts County. MILES POWELL FORWARD - ‘Milo’ spent the 2014/15 season with Whitton United returning to the Seasiders where he learnt his trade. There has never been any doubt in his natural football ability but Milo has now become one of the most prolific goal scorers the club has ever had.
STUART AINSLEY DEFENDER/MIDFIELDER - Stuart joined the club for his second spell in the summer of 2014 from Lowestoft Town after their promotion to the Football Conference due to work commitments. A former youth player at Ipswich Town Stuart has a sweet left foot and a great work ethic.
JORDAN MATTHEWS MIDFIELDER – Jordy, a one club man and a manager’s dream. Equally happy in midfield or in the No10 shirt. Always gives 110% and somehow covers every blade of grass. With his fair share of goals and tackles he is a great all round player.

CURTIS HAYNES-BROWN CURTIS HAYNES-BROWN CENTRE BACK – Curtis joined the club during the summer, leading to much excitement from the supporters. Curtis was signed by then EFL club Yeovil Town and also spent time at Cambridge United, AFC Wimbledon & Macclesfield Town. More recently he has been playing for Maldon & Tiptree and last season for Stanway Rovers. ARMANI SCHAAR WINGER/RIGHT BACK - Armani played for Felixstowe & Walton back in 2016 before moving on to Leiston Town and then Lowestoft where he helped that club fly away from relegation in the 2018/19 season. Armani has also had spells at Needham Market and brings with him plenty of experience playing at step 3 level. LEON OTTLEY-GOOCH MIDFIELDER – Leon signed for the club during the summer and is another vastly experienced player at step 3 and 4 level. Previous clubs include Leiston, Bury Town, Hadleigh Utd and Stowmarket Town. Leon is very versatile but is predominantly a dynamic midfield player.
MANAGER - Stuart Boardley (Right) ASSISTANT MANAGER - Andy Crump (Left) KYLE JOPLING DEFENDER - Kyle joined the club in the summer of 2019 after spending part of the previous season on loan from Colchester United. Another player for the future, Kyle is already a hit with the supporters after his classy displays at the back. HENRY BARLEY MIDFIELDER – Henry signed for the club in 2019 following his contract expiring at Ipswich Town, another popular young player who had also been on loan from the then EFL Championship club the previous season. NICK INGRAM FORWARD – Nick returned to the Seaside in 2019. He was originally in the ranks of Ipswich Town as a youngster before joining Bury Town. His first spell for the Seasiders started in October 2016 and he made a huge impact in the Thurlow Nunn league. He joined Mildenhall Town the following year and also spent time at Needham Market in the Isthmian Premier. OLLIE CANFER FORWARD – Few players in the clubs history would have made as dramatic an impact as when Ollie joined the club in November 2019, signed from Mildenhall Town, “Canfs” burst onto the scene and scored 9 goals in 13 games as the Seasiders battled at the lower
KYLE JOPLING
end of the league. The fans not only love his goals! They also love his non-stop running and desire to cause defensive headaches for the opposition.
Noel turned down advances from other clubs at a higher level and for more money so obviously likes what he sees at the Goldstar Ground.
SAM NUNN DEFENDER – Sam originally joined on loan from Stowmarket Town midway through last season, he has previously played at a higher level for Lowestoft Town, Bury Town and Needham Market and has now signed permanently for the Seasiders. Sam suffered with injuries last season but Boards and Crumpy had already seen enough to make his signing a must.
LAMELL HOWELL WINGER – Signed from Brightlingsea Regent in the summer, Lamell will bring something different to the top part of the pitch for us this season, he can play on both wings or in the number 10 position and brings pace and trickery to the side. He has previously played for Stowmarket Town, Debenham LC and Brantham Athletic.
GEORGE CLARKE FORWARD – George signed at the same time as Sam Nunn, also from Stowmarket Town and has previously played for Ipswich Town, AFC Sudbury, Needham Market, Brightlingsea Regent and Brantham Athletic. A powerful player with speed to match, George is expected to make a big impact this season. NOEL AITKENS CENTRE MIDFIELDER – Noel’s signing for the club in the summer certainly caused a stir amongst the non-league world, joining from step 3 Leiston and being described by manager Boardley as “the best midfield player in this area”. Noel is quick, strong, can tackle, is athletic and can really play football!
OLLIE CANFER
SAM NUNN
RHYS HENRY FORWARD – Rhys re-joined the Seasiders in the summer of 2020 after a season at Leiston. He played a crucial role in the 2018-19 side playing at step 4 for the first time and has previously played for Ipswich Town, Southend United, Maldon & Tiptree, Needham market, AFC Sudbury & Bury Town. TYGER SMALLS WINGER – 17yr old Tyger joined the Seasiders during the summer and has a highly promising future in the game, creating quite a stir in the football world with some dazzling goals and performances for Saffron Walden and Haverhill. Tyger is one of three brothers and started at Tottenham Hotspur Youth and also had a trial at Arsenal in March 2020.

cross that Adam Vyse got his head to but could not get any power and home keeper Bobby Mason made the save.
Jammers manager Wayne Brown made three changes to the starting line up from last Saturdays penalty shoot out FA Cup win with Rhamar Garrett-Douglas, Alfie Mason and Aaron William-Bushel dropping to the substitutes bench to be replaced by Niran Butler, Makhosini Ryan-Khanye and debutant Andre Hasanally.
The visitors should have taken an early lead when Makhosini Ryan-Khanye put in a great run down the left before playing a great ball forward to Hamza Kaid but he spurned a good chance by putting his shot wide from inside the penalty area.
In wet conditions but on a good looking surface both sides took time to settle as both went in search of any weaknesses in their opponents set up. The first goal action saw the visitors Andre Hasanally get in a good

Canvey’s Evans Kouassi then featured strongly with a good run down the right before getting a good cross over that was just cleared by the Jammers defence before the same player got over another dangerous cross that Mason Hall headed over the junction of bar and post.
Half chances were then created at both ends when Maldon and Tiptree’s Kaid expertly slipped a tackle to race down the pitch before seeing his centre just cleared before Kouassi, for the home side, got to the byline before crossing well to find Toby Blackwell but he headed over the bar from a good position. Jammers old boy Connor Hubble then hit just wide from 20 metres before the visitors, with their fine short passing game, take control of the last 15 minutes of the half. The Jammers were again just denied the opening goal when Scott Kemp got good contact to Sam Coombes’s cross but a combination of the post and Mason’s hand just prevented the ball entering the net at the near post. Almost on time Adam Vyse powered in a free kick from fully 30 metres which Mason could only parry but the loose ball was just cleared. The second half continued as the end of the first with Maldon and Tiptree dominating play with their passing game in contrast to the home side’s long ball tactics which often saw home side possession easily handed back to the visitors. It became only a matter of time before The Jammers profited from their dominance and the opening goal
duly followed after 59 minutes when Vyse’s free kick from 25 metres flashed through the defensive wall, across the keeper and finish in the far corner of the net - a goal good enough to win any game. There was still plenty of work to do if the away side wanted to take all three points and this they did well with Billy Cracknell and Martyn Stokes keeping a firm hold on play down the middle and Ryan-Khanye and Niran Butler keeping danger man Kouassi quiet although the home sides hopes were certainly not helped by a second yellow card and dismissal for Elliott Ronto after 68 minutes. Jammers substitute Thomas Stagg soon made his presence felt with good runs down both left and rightwings but both times he shot narrowly wide before Kemp almost got on the end of a cross close to goal but just missed making contact. The last 10 minutes saw the home side throwing everything forward in the hope of getting a goal but their approach of long high balls into the box did not really pay off and it was Kouassi, from the left who produced the most danger but his excellent crosses failed to create any real chances as home substitute Louie Hunt saw one 25 metre shot saved then saw another effort go way over the bar.

MALDON & TIPTREE
CLUB HISTORY In 2009, Ed Garty took over the ownership of Maldon Town from Michael Kirkham, whilst still in charge of running Tiptree United and installed Alan Brockhouse as Maldon Town’s new chairman. Following the takeover, Colin Wallington returned for a second spell in charge of Maldon Town, leaving his post as Tiptree United manager immediately. Colin previously managed Maldon Town from 2003 until 2007, having achieved promotion in the 2005-06 via the play-off final. Having left Maldon in 2007, Colin went on to manage Tiptree United where he achieved promotion winning the Eastern Counties Division One title in the 2007/08 season. Until the conclusion of the 2009/10 season both Maldon Town & Tiptree United played their home games at Park Drive, under a ground share arrangement.
20
In the summer of 2010, Maldon Town & Tiptree United amalgamated to form, Maldon & Tiptree Football Club, under the ownership of Ed Garty. As a result of the amalgamation, Tiptree United withdrew from the Essex Senior League, resulting in the clubs last ever fixture being a 3-1 defeat against Enfield 1893 on 24 April 2010. Maldon & Tiptree took the place of Maldon Town in the Isthmian Division One North. Following the retirement of Colin Wallington, Assistant Manager, Brad King and Glen Knight were appointed as the clubs Joint-Manager. As the pair’s first managerial role, the new club witnessed wholesale changes with only a handful of players remaining who finished the season with Maldon Town and Tiptree United, respectively. The 2010-11 campaign saw the
MALDON & TIPTREE vs FELIXSTOWE & WALTON UNITED
new club remain in or around the play-off positions for the majority of the season, finishing in eighth place to finish the season with sixty-three points. Despite the high turnover of players, the good standard of football was maintained and it was in the end, a disappointing end to the season, for the club to fall away in the later stages of the season when suspensions and injuries eventually took their toll to leave the club frustratingly short of the play-off positions at the end of April. The 2011-12 season, proved to not be so successful and in November 2011, King and Knight were relieved of their duties with immediate effect. Ex-Charlton professional Mike Flanagan was appointed as Caretaker Manager and remained in place until the end of the season, steering the club to a respectful mid-table finish, managing thirtythree games and finishing with a win percentage of 49.12%.
At the start of the 2012-13 campaign, Ex-Stansted & Redbridge boss Terry Spillane was appointed as Manager, and Mike Flanagan departed the club. The change of management, once again brought wholesale changes with the playing squad. Ex Tiptree United manager, Jody was brought to the club as Terry’s Assistant Manager. After a fantastic and unbeaten start to the season, the club found themselves at the top of the table but an incredible run by eventual Champions Grays Athletic meant Maldon had to settle for a place in the play-offs – Terry’s side remained unbeaten until Boxing Day, when they lost away from home against local rivals Heybridge Swifts. Disappointment came in the play-off final however when they lost a two goal lead to draw with Thamesmead Town, who thenwent on to win the final,on penalties. After a disappointing end to the previous season, Terry Spillane oversaw more wholesale changes in the playing squad, including the departure of Assistant Manager, Jody Brown. Despite the changes, Maldon finished in ninth position with seventysix points, winning twenty-one games.
Mudmen and The Jammers available. The vote took place in January 2015 and was featured on National Radio station, TalkSport, with the The Jammers winning the vote with over 50% and being confirmed as the clubs new nickname. Following the completion of the 2014-15 season, the club linked with Colchester United and the two clubs formed close ties, which resulted in ex Ipswich Town midfielder, David Wright being appointed as First Team Manager. Wright remained in charge until December 2015 as he was appointed Assistant Manager of Colchester United. Liam Bailey took charge of the First Team on a temporary basis, only managing one game, which finished four-all against Tilbury on Boxing Day in 2015. Moving into 2016, ex-Leiston Manager, Steve Ball was appointed First Team Manager and steered the club to a respectable finish in the league table climbing to seventh place, only missing out on the playoff places by nine points.
More changes to the playing staff, resulted in poor start to the 201415 season, and the club parted ways with Spillane in September 2014, with Chairman, Ed Garty takeover as Caretaker Manager, for three games. At the end of September 2014, Alan Kimble was appointed as manager and remained in charge for the remainder of the season, however the side struggled and more changes in the playing staff occurred. Maldon finished the season in nineteenth place with only forty-nine points.
In the closed season, a change of Management at Colchester United saw Steve Ball appointed as their Assistant Manager, leaving his position of Maldon & Tiptree Manager as a result. Ex-Manchester City midfielder, Kevin Horlock was then appointed as First Team manager ahead of the 2016-17 campaign and for the majority of the season, the Jammers sat at the top of the table before slipping away to finish in second place. Horlock’s side managed to reach the play-off final, however lost to Thurrock one-nil. The following campaign was not quite as successful for Horlock, with Maldon finishing just outside the play-off places in seventh place, with sixty-nine points.
During the 2014-15 season, Media Officer at the time, Richard Buckby ran a competition for supporters to vote for a club nickname, with the options The River Boys, The Marshmen, The
After managing 112 games, Kevin Horlock departed in the closed season and was replaced by ex-Colchester defender, Wayne Brown. In Brown’s first season in
charge, the 2018-19 season, the Jammers finished in second place and reached the play-off final, but lost on penalties against local rivals, Heybridge Swifts. The 2019-20 season was one to remember for the club, but for the right and wrong reasons. The club achieved great things in the Emirates FA Cup. Having reached the First Round proper of the competition, Maldon beat League Two side, Leyton Orient away from home, taking over 600 fans to the home of The O’s, with the goals coming from Danny Parish and a superb solo goal from Jorome Slew. In the second round proper, Maldon were drawn against Football League side, Newport County with the game being shown live on National Television– with the Jammers only beaten by the League Two side, with a goal in stoppage time, with the game finishing 1-0. A record attendance of 1876 was recorded. However, the 2019-20 season will also be remembered for the wrong reasons. After impressive performances on the field, the Jammers found themselves top of the Isthmian Division One North, thirteen points clear with four games in hand, when disaster struck. With a global pandemic declared, as a result of Coronavirus, the league competition was formally abandoned on 26 March 2020, with all results from the season being expunged, and no promotion or relegation taking place to, from, or within the division. The club were denied a chance of promotion and forced to remain in the Division One North for the 2020-21 season. Following the disappointing end to the 2020-21 season, Wayne Brown remained in charge of the club and wholesale changes in the playing squad occurred again, with a number of last season’s squad securing transfers to clubs higher up the football pyramid.
