IN CHARGE:

WAYNE BROWN WELCOME TO PARK DRIVE FOR THIS AFTERNOON’S LEAGUE FIXTURE AGAINST GREAT WAKERING ROVERS. AS NORMAL, I’D LIKE TO START BY GIVING GLENN, HIS TEAM AND THEIR SUPPORTERS A WARM WELCOME TO PARK DRIVE, ALONG WITH TODAY’S MATCH OFFICIALS. I HOPE EVERYONE HAS A SAFE JOURNEY HOME.

I was pleased with our victory over Aveley in the Velocity Trophy last time out at Park Drive. We made a few changes and continued to struggle with players picking up injuries, but the lads’ application was as we all expect. After a dominant first half, we dug in during the second half to earn consecutive clean sheets and booked our place in the next round of the competition. On Saturday at Dereham, we were once again without key players with Malachi Napa missing through injury and Stokesy was only fit enough for the bench. As has so often been the case this season, we generated and wasted a number of chances - we led at the break 2-0, but in truth, it could and should have been more. The lads know they need to improve their conversion rate and this is something we are working really hard at. At the start of the second half, we went 3-0 up but we always knew Dereham would come back at us. I felt at the time that their first goal should have been disallowed for a foul on Ted Collins, and what followed was a period where we weren’t managing the game as I would have hoped. However, once Dereham pulled level I was pleased with how the team came through that bad spell and we managed to leave with a point, even having chances of our own in the closing stages to win the game. We have a young group and hopefully they will learn from the experience, but it was a game we should have won having found ourselves with the lead that we did.

MALDON & TIPTREE vs GREAT WAKERING ROVERS

So, onto today’s game and having taken over at the end of October, Glenn and his team at Great Wakering have picked up some positive results against Grays Athletic and Romford, whilst almost picking up a point against Heybridge Swifts despite trailing 0-3 at one stage. They have seen their league position improve over recent weeks and, I am sure, will come to us hoping to continue their good form. They have a good collection of players, and when looking at the form guide for the last four league games, Glenn’s team are in the top ten within the division. So, like any team in this division, they should not be underestimated. We need to do what we do best and concentrate our game, looking to take advantage of being at home. As I’ve said previously, your support has been brilliant so far this season and it’s great to see our home attendances continuing to rise. Long may it continue and please, get behind the team today as normal. We are without a fixture next week, as our scheduled game against Canvey Island has been postponed due to their involvement in the FA Trophy. I hope to see as many of you as possible on December 3rd, though, when we make the short trip to Coggeshall Town.   I hope you enjoy today’s game. Wayne

SATURDAY 13TH NOVEMBER | THE PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE NORTH | ATT: 231 Maldon & Tiptree travelled back from Norfolk with just a point, despite having led 3-0 after 52 minutes. On a wet and windy afternoon, with the grass extremely long, the Jammers surprisingly were able to get the ball down and play their normal style of attractive football. After six minutes, Wayne Brown’s side had their first goal of the afternoon. A short and quick corner caught Dereham by surprise, Sam Cornish delivered an inviting cross to the back post and planted the ball onto the head of FRANKIE TERRY, who powered home from close range for his first goal in the red and blue. Spurred on by their positive start, Maldon continued to create chance after chance with the home side unable to cope. The hosts had appeals for a penalty waved away which resulted in their manager being shown a straight red card and their assistant manager shown a yellow card. Bryan Ifeanyi, Charlee Hughes and Scott Kemp all had chances to extend the Jammers’ lead, but were unable to find a way past Elliot Pride in the home goal. In the 26th minute, Ifeanyi won a penalty for Brown’s men when, through on goal, he took the ball around the onrushing Pride who had no choice but to bring him down inside the area. Colchester United loanee IFEANYI picked himself up off the floor and dispatched an accurate penalty into the top corner to give the Jammers a two-goal advantage.

06

MALDON & TIPTREE vs GREAT WAKERING ROVERS

Shortly after, Ifeanyi had a chance for a brace but decided against shooting, instead he looked for Scott Kemp, but a defender got back in time to deny what would have been a certain third goal. Before the break, there was time for both Sam Cornish and Joe Turpin to collect yellow yards in separate incidents. After a positive first half, Maldon picked up after the halftime break in the same way that they had dominated the first, adding a third goal inside the opening ten minutes. Al-Amin Kazeem intercepted the ball on the left-hand side of the pitch, skipped past three defenders and delivered an inch-perfect cross onto the head of BRADLEY McCLENAGHAN to bury from close range. Game over? The hosts, who would have been forgiven for thinking that they were dead and buried at that point, continued to push forward and were fortunate to find a way back into the game in the 57th minute. With Maldon stopper Ted Collins leaving his line to claim the ball, he was on the receiving end of a challenge despite appearing to have full control of the ball, but play was waved on to allow DAVID HINTON to curl the ball home into the unguarded goal and reduce the arrears to two. Looking to break the home side’s momentum, Brown replaced Shomari Barnwell with debutant Courtney Justin, but his bow would get off to the worst possible start with the defender giving away a penalty within moments of his introduction. ADAM HIPPERSON stepped up and placed his effort beyond Collins to bring Maldon into the hosts’ sight.

With the home side now in ascendency, the Jammers’ defence was under increasing pressure and Dereham completed their comeback in the 67th minute, grabbing a third goal in ten minutes. HIPPERSON was allowed to cut in from the left flank and unleashed a rocket towards goal to level the scores. With the game set up for a frantic finish, Martyn Stokes was introduced in place of Ifeanyi in a slight change of shape for the Jammers. As Maldon looked to bounce back from their rough ten minutes, they continued to create chances and forced Pride into making a smart save to deny Hughes. With the Jammers looking solid in defence once more in the closing stages, it was Brown’s side who had the best chance to win the game late on. Kemp watched on as his header looped into the hands of the grateful Pride in goal, though, and the spoils were shared in Norfolk.

MALDON SAINTS PANTHERS vs U7 PUMAS SUNDAY 14TH NOVEMBER

Report: Aaron Omand

The U7 Pumas made the short journey around the corner to Promenade Park on Sunday to tackle Maldon Saints Panthers in their first ‘Blackwater Derby’. After hitting eight goals the week before, the Pumas were keen to put in another fine performance. The match started with high and hard pressing from the hungry Pumas. Strong pressure from Louie and Ronnie put the Saints on the back foot and allowed a number of early chances. Luke had the best opportunity to open the scoring, only to be denied by a phenomenal save from the goalkeeper in a one-on-one. The Jammers were now beginning to set up camp in the opposing half, but the Saints always looked dangerous on the counter. Isabella made sure that any danger was swiftly cleaned up and showed excellent composure to then move the ball forward for another wave of attacks. Midway through the first half, and after a couple of changes, the pressure was still mounting on the Saints’ goal. Sixteen minutes passed and the breakthrough finally came after Henry B had recovered the ball for Henry T. After a sensational direct dribble between two

10

MALDON & TIPTREE vs GREAT WAKERING ROVERS

defenders, a toe-poked Henry T shot squeezed past the onrushing goalkeeper and had too much for the defender to clear off the line. Two minutes later and it was 2-0 thanks to a quite brilliant long-distance strike from the Player of the Match, Luke. After winning the ball back, he unleashed an unstoppable drive from outside of the box to add to his collection. Glimpses of the Saints’ strength were constantly spearheaded by the number 10 who found herself bearing down on the Pumas’ goal on a couple of occasions. However, fantastic cover from Henry B, Isabella and Luke quickly put a stop to any advancements. The second half began the same as the first, with strong pressing from Billy, Louie and Ronnie with each of them unlucky to not add to the score line. Scrappy blocks and tight areas in and around the Saints’ box were causing the Pumas trouble in adding to their tally. Chances came and went with the constantly-changing Maldon goalkeepers providing the last line of defence time and time again.

TIPTREE JOBSERVE vs U11 PUMAS SUNDAY 14TH NOVEMBER What a Sunday to remember as the Pumas roared into Tiptree ready to battle like warriors for the bragging rights over their local derby rivals. They arrived to a capacity crowd singing and chanting their names, a two-minute silence for our fallen heroes was observed impeccably and, on the sound of the whistle, it was time for our next generation of heroes to take to the stage. It was a nervy start from the Pumas, hanging in there for the first two minutes as the home team brought the attack, but what you need in moments like that is an awesome ‘keeper like Percy Goldstone who stepped up, claimed the ball, calmed the nerves and pulled off a magnificent save to his left which seemed to inject the Pumas with confidence and belief that they could overcome the task ahead. Harrison Bowyer showed power and strength to win the ball for the Pumas and it was his direct run and crisp shot from distance that was skillfully turned in by captain Ollie Bannister to give the Pumas the lead. 1-0, and what a crafty counter-attacking goal it was! Then all of a sudden it was all Pumas and a cracking tackle from Tristan de Belligny, who was

Report: James Goldstone

the heart and soul of the Pumas’ midfield, released lightning George Marshall through on goal. George did fantastically well to hold off the defender and his shot was only a whisker wide of making it 2-0. Then, as we have come to expect of TJS, they came at us in wave after wave of attack, Oliver Curtis at right-back showing just why we trusted him with that role, expertly tackling and bringing the ball out of defence, whilst also issuing positive advice to his defensive teammates. Reece Ilett was a giant at the heart of defence, reading the danger like his favourite book and showing development and confidence to not only win the ball, but calmly carry it out of harm’s way. Then a breakaway for the Pumas saw a through ball and sublime finish from our new star signing Jayson Scollard, only for the ref to disallow it for what we think was a marginal offside. It was a shame as the hard-working striker battled and ran the line selflessly, deserving a goal for his efforts. Tiptree tried to use the width of the pitch to get in behind the Pumas but found no joy, primarily due to the workrate of Bertie Elderton who never stopped running, never stopped passing and never stopped encouraging

High pressing from the Pumas always risked a Saints breakaway, and they did just that late on. In the final two minutes, a last-ditch attempt to win the ball back in the area was mistimed and an obvious penalty was given. A powerful drive was struck to halve the deficit for the Saints, but a wonderful save from Joshua kept the ball out. However, the ball fell kindly to the taker and they made no

his team mates - a stellar performance. As expected, in the second Tiptree JobServe came after us, but the Pumas’ work rate never dropped and a high press from George and Thomas Jardine forced a mistake and an own goal, making it 2-0. This was thanks to fantastic play from Tom who worked his socks off closing down and chasing lost causes all game; just reward. Of course, TJS hit back to make things interesting, but at 2-1 Dexter Burton was there to put a composed foot on the ball, slow down the tempo and hand the control back to the Pumas. Then a moment of magic, with Christian Vryonides - who has been getting better and better with every game - picking up the ball on the left and, with the quickest feet in the west, he beat three players and smashed home into the top corner for what can only be described as a wondergoal - 3-1. TJS pulled it back to 3-2, but the Pumas again composed themselves and saw the game out like the pros they are. Every player came off that pitch smiling, knowing they had given absolutely everything and so Man of the Match went to the whole team as we couldn’t separate their performance. Well done boys, well deserved victory... be proud of yourselves. #COYJ

mistake second time round, smashing the ball into the roof of the net. Strong defensive work from the Pumas saw the game out after textbook attacking build-up all game. The final whistle blew and gave the Pumas local bragging rights in the Blackwater Derby. Next month the Saints visit Park Drive but, for now, Maldon is ours.

The club was formed in 1919 by soldiers demobbed after World War I and finding employment in the local brickfields. Not much in memory remains of the early years of the club although the club do pose some wonderful pictures from around that period. Rovers first played in one of Southend’s oldest leagues, the Southend & District League, where the Rovers stayed until 1982. Rovers were the leagues most dominant clubs, especially in the 1960s and 1970s and to this day remain so on record. The switch in 1982 saw the club move to the newly formed Southend & District Alliance Football League, but sadly this league folded in 1989 leaving Rovers with a decision to move back to the Southend & District League or take a step up in standard. With what most Rovers feel to be the best squad amassed by a manager, in this case Eddie Nash, Rovers took the decision to step up to intermediate level and joined the Essex Intermediate League.

MALDON & TIPTREE vs GREAT WAKERING ROVERS

Rovers remained in the Essex Intermediate League for three seasons, winning the championships of Divisions Three and Two in successive seasons. After the latter, Rovers successfully applied to join the Essex Senior League and found themselves in Step 5 of the Non-League pyramid, which for a village club was a tremendous feat. In the 1994-1995 season Rovers narrowly beat Sawbridgeworth Town FC for the Essex Senior League title. Rovers had collected 71 points for the season and lost just three times although the title win was only won on goal difference (18). During that season Rovers forward Paul Flack scored 28 goals, which included a haul of 4 goals away at Eton Manor as Rovers celebrated a 9-0 victory. Also included in his stunning season were two further hat-tricks. That season his strike partner Neil Ramsey grabbed 20 goals as Rovers hit home 82 goals. Rovers defence of the Essex Senior crown

would falter the following season, finishing 2nd behind Romford. In the 1996-1997 season Rovers would also finish second again, behind Ford United by just three points. The 1997-1998 season would be Rovers worst season in the Essex Senior League, finishing midtable, 7th, and 36 points behind winners Concord Rangers. The club’s final appearance in the Essex Senior League saw them finish 2nd behind Bowers United. However, due to Bowers United failing to meet ground grading requirements for promotion, Rovers were promoted to the Isthmian League in their place. With Isthmian League Division Three on the horizon for the 1999-2000 season, Rovers move into Step 4 of the league pyramid was complete. At the very first attempt Rovers were promoted to Division Two finishing behind East Thurrock Utd by three points. Promotion to Division Two gave Rovers some stiffer opposition and the season finished with Rovers in mid-table. In 2002 the Isthmian League then reorganised and Rovers found themselves in a new look Division One North, finishing mid-table but more than holding their own in what was a very competitive league. In 2003 the club were embroiled in a relegation fight, although this was won convincingly as Rovers finished 15 points ahead of the relegation zone. A further league reorganisation in 2004 saw the club switch to the Southern Football League Eastern Division for two seasons. The 2004-2005 season saw Rovers miss relegation by one point due to Erith & Belvedere FC being deducted three points, but in the 2005-2006 season Rovers bounced back to finish safely in mid-table. For the 2006-2007 season Rovers found themselves in familiar territory, switching back to the Isthmian League Division One North, where we finished 12th. Two further seasons saw Rovers finish 13th and stabilise themselves as a Ryman League club. The 2009-2010 season brought a

record number of points for the Rovers at Ryman League level, 64, but towards the end of the season manager Iain O’Connell was offered the management of Ryman Premier League side Margate leaving assistant Ryan Wilkinson and physio Cleve Taylor to take over temporary control with 12 games to go. In a season that saw Rovers top the table for 9 weeks, the dizzy heights would eventually get to O’Connell’s side as they finished in 9th place, 13 points behind the playoffs. Ryan Wilkinson and Cleve Taylor would be implemented as joint-managers for the 2010-2011 season and their first season in charge would offer up 44 points and 15th place in the league. Their start to the 2011-2012 season wasn’t what they had hoped and after one win in their opening nine games, both offered their resignations. Rovers made first team coach Danny Heath caretaker manager and he brought temporary stabilisation back to the side as they recorded two wins and three draws from his seven games in charge. Rovers would offer the management post to Danny Greaves, son of exTottenham and England legend Jimmy Greaves. Danny saw that a clean sweep of the side was required and let go the majority of the squad, bringing in loanees whilst trying to sign up new players. unfortunately, this plan didn’t work and after a miserable run of six losses in a row, he too offered his resignation. Rovers would offer ex-Captain and stalwart Dan Trenkel the position as manager in November 2011 in an effort to stabilise the club. However, Trenkel was playing for Redbridge FC at the time who were on a fantastic run in the FA Cup, and it would be two weeks before he would be unveiled at the club, Danny Heath taking temporary control again, although this time losing both games. Trenkel would bring back a number of players previously released by Danny Greaves, and opened his management career with a 2-2 draw at home to Waltham Forest, followed by a 1-1 draw at home to Harlow Town. However, although the side were performing better, results would continue to go

against him and after just three wins in the remaining 21 games, including 6 draws, Rovers would find themselves bottom of the table and staring relegation into the Essex Senior League. In 2014, they won the ESL by one point on the final day of the season, and were promoted back to the Isthmian League. 2016/17 season was probably the most turbulent the club has ever experienced. Seeing two Chairman leaving their posts, together with two Managers also losing their jobs. In total 71 players were used in the fight against relegation without any success. As we were finally relegated after two seasons at step 4 in the FA Pyramid returning to the Essex Senior League. Manager Iain O’Connell, in his second spell with the club has been working hard during the summer to put together a strong squad and to lay down the foundation to mount a serious challenge for promotion to enable Great Wakering Rovers to get back to Step 4 in the FA pyramid the club expects. 2017/18 Season Rovers won the ESL again as well as the Errington League Cup and was promoted back to the Isthmian League once again. 2018/19 see’s Garry Kimble take over from Iain O’Connell, who stepped down as Rovers manager during pre-season to concentrate on his family. Rovers had a up and down season with Gary Kimble leaving the club and Stephen Butterworth taking over just after Christmas on a temporary basis and managed to keep Rovers up and playing Isthmian football again for 201920 season. Stephen Butterworth was given the role on a permanent basis going into 2019/20 season finishing their highest position in the club’s history just outside the playoff place in 7th with 43 points. 2020/21 season was the season that wasn’t, with Rovers only managing 7 league games and claiming only points.

The third round draw was conducted earlier this week, giving the Clarets a trip to Park Drive. A date for the fixture is still to be confirmed, but ties are due to be played on or before 18th December.

NEW FACES ON SHOW

Wayne Brown has added two new defenders to his squad lately, with both Frankie Terry and Courtney Justin turning out for the Jammers in recent games. 17-year-old Frankie, nephew of former England captain John Terry, joins on loan from Colchester United. The young centre-half netted his first goal for Maldon in last weekend’s six-goal thriller at Dereham Town. Justin is a versatile defender who joined up with the squad last week from White Ensign. Having also previously turned out for Newbury Forest, he made his debut in the draw at Dereham too.

SWIFTS UP NEXT IN VELOCITY TROPHY Following Maldon & Tiptree’s 2-0 win over Aveley in the opening round of the Velocity Trophy, the Jammers have been handed another home tie in the second round. MALDON & TIPTREE

CLUB HISTORY

In 2009, Ed Garty took over the ownership of Maldon Town from Michael Kirkham, whilst still in charge of running Tiptree United and installed Alan Brockhouse as Maldon Town’s new chairman. Following the takeover, Colin Wallington returned for a second spell in charge of Maldon Town, leaving his post as Tiptree United manager immediately. Colin previously managed Maldon Town from 2003 until 2007, having achieved promotion in the 200506 via the play-off final. Having left Maldon in 2007, Colin went on to manage Tiptree United where he achieved promotion winning the

16

Eastern Counties Division One title in the 2007/08 season. Until the conclusion of the 2009/10 season both Maldon Town & Tiptree United played their home games at Park Drive, under a ground share arrangement. In the summer of 2010, Maldon Town & Tiptree United amalgamated to form, Maldon & Tiptree Football Club, under the ownership of Ed Garty. As a result of the amalgamation, Tiptree United withdrew from the Essex Senior League, resulting in the club’s last ever fixture being a 3-1 defeat against Enfield 1893 on 24 April 2010. Maldon & Tiptree took

MALDON & TIPTREE vs GREAT WAKERING ROVERS

the place of Maldon Town in the Isthmian Division One North. Following the retirement of Colin Wallington, Assistant Manager, Brad King and Glen Knight were appointed as the clubs JointManager. As the pair’s first managerial role, the new club witnessed wholesale changes with only a handful of players remaining who finished the season with Maldon Town and Tiptree United, respectively. The 2010-11 campaign saw the new club remain in or around the play-off positions for the majority of the season, finishing in eighth

place to finish the season with sixty-three points. Despite the high turnover of players, the good standard of football was maintained and it was in the end, a disappointing end to the season, for the club to fall away in the later stages of the season when suspensions and injuries eventually took their toll to leave the club frustratingly short of the play-off positions at the end of April. The 2011-12 season, proved to not be so successful and in November 2011, King and Knight were relieved of their duties with immediate effect. Ex-Charlton professional Mike Flanagan was appointed as Caretaker Manager and remained in place until the end of the season, steering the club to a respectful mid-table finish, managing thirty-three games and finishing with a win percentage of 49.12%. At the start of the 2012-13 campaign, Ex-Stansted & Redbridge boss Terry Spillane was appointed as Manager, and Mike Flanagan departed the club. The change of management, once again brought wholesale changes with the playing squad. Ex Tiptree United manager, Jody was brought to the club as Terry’s Assistant Manager. After a fantastic and unbeaten start to the season, the club found themselves at the top of the table but an incredible run by eventual Champions Grays Athletic meant Maldon had to settle for a place in the play-offs – Terry’s side remained unbeaten until Boxing Day, when they lost away from home against local rivals Heybridge Swifts. Disappointment came in the play-off final however when they lost a two goal lead to draw with Thamesmead Town, who thenwent on to win the final,on penalties.

After a disappointing end to the previous season, Terry Spillane oversaw more wholesale changes in the playing squad, including the departure of Assistant Manager, Jody Brown. Despite the changes, Maldon finished in ninth position with seventy-six points, winning twenty-one games. More changes to the playing staff, resulted in poor start to the 2014-15 season, and the club parted ways with Spillane in September 2014, with Chairman, Ed Garty takeover as Caretaker Manager, for three games. At the end of September 2014, Alan Kimble was appointed as manager and remained in charge for the remainder of the season, however the side struggled and more changes in the playing staff occurred. Maldon finished the season in nineteenth place with only forty-nine points. During the 2014-15 season, Media Officer at the time, Richard Buckby ran a competition for supporters to vote for a club nickname, with the options The River Boys, The Marshmen, The Mudmen and The Jammers available. The vote took place in January 2015 and was featured on National Radio station, TalkSport, with the The Jammers winning the vote with over 50% and being confirmed as the clubs new nickname. Following the completion of the 2014-15 season, the club linked with Colchester United and the two clubs formed close ties, which resulted in ex Ipswich Town midfielder, David Wright being appointed as First Team Manager. Wright remained in charge until December 2015 as he was appointed Assistant Manager of Colchester United. Liam Bailey took charge of the First Team on

a temporary basis, only managing one game, which finished four-all against Tilbury on Boxing Day in 2015. Moving into 2016, exLeiston Manager, Steve Ball was appointed First Team Manager and steered the club to a respectable finish in the league table climbing to seventh place, only missing out on the play-off places by nine points. In the closed season, a change of Management at Colchester United saw Steve Ball appointed as their Assistant Manager, leaving his position of Maldon & Tiptree Manager as a result. Ex-Manchester City midfielder, Kevin Horlock was then appointed as First Team manager ahead of the 2016-17 campaign and for the majority of the season, the Jammers sat at the top of the table before slipping away to finish in second place. Horlock’s side managed to reach the play-off final, however lost to Thurrock one-nil. The following campaign was not quite as successful for Horlock, with Maldon finishing just outside the play-off places in seventh place, with sixty-nine points. After managing 112 games, Kevin Horlock departed in the closed season and was replaced by ex-Colchester defender, Wayne Brown. In Brown’s first season in charge, the 2018-19 season, the Jammers finished in second place and reached the play-off final, but lost on penalties against local rivals, Heybridge Swifts. The 2019-20 season was one to remember for the club, but for the right and wrong reasons. The club achieved great things in the Emirates FA Cup. Having reached the First Round proper of the competition, Maldon beat League Two side, Leyton Orient away from home, taking over 600

After impressive performances on the field, the Jammers found themselves top of the Isthmian Division One North, thirteen points clear with four games in hand, when disaster struck. With a global pandemic declared, as a result of Coronavirus, the league competition was formally abandoned on 26 March 2020, with all results from the season being expunged, and no promotion or relegation taking place to, from, or within the division. The club were denied a chance of promotion and forced to remain in the Division One North for the 2020-21 season.

ED GARTY STEPPED DOWN AS CHAIRMAN IN OCTOBER 2020 Following the disappointing end to the 2019-20 season, Wayne Brown remained in charge of the club and wholesale changes in the playing squad occurred again, with a number of the previous season’s squad securing transfers to clubs higher up the football pyramid. The Jammers were dealt a big blow in October 2020 when owner and Chairman Ed Garty stood down from his position with immediate effect, ending a challenging ten years at the helm. After a period of uncertainty for

the football club, General Manager Ron Dangerfield was confirmed as the new Chairman, with Richard Cowling taking ownership of the football club. Just like the 2019-20 season, the 2020-21 campaign was terminated with promotion and relegation denied for all the sides competing in the Division One North. However, prior to the curtailment the Jammers had reached the Emirates FA Cup First Round for the second successive season, this time losing to Morecambe 1-0 in front of the television cameras. Brown’s side also achieved their longest ever run in the Buildbase FA Trophy, eventually losing to Gloucester City. The Jammers were only able to play in five league games, finishing in third place before the season was curtailed. Heading in to the 2021/22 season, Wayne Brown remains in charge of the first team and is now the club’s longest-serving manager, holding the record for the most games managed in charge of Maldon & Tiptree Football Club.

The former Ipswich Town, Colchester United, Hull City and Leicester City defender now in his third season in charge of the club. A nononsense, uncompromising leader on the pitch, the “Browny” played over 350 professional matches in a successful career spanning over 14 years and earned promotion to the Championship with the U’s before going on to play in the Premier League with Hull.
