IN CHARGE:
PAUL ABRAHAMS
WELCOME BACK TO PARK DRIVE FOR THIS EVENING’S LEAGUE FIXTURE AGAINST HASHTAG UNITED. I’D LIKE TO GIVE JAY AND HIS TEAM A WARM WELCOME, ALONG WITH THEIR SUPPORTERS AND TONIGHT’S MATCH OFFICIALS. Football is a game where things can change quickly and, after taking control of the last home game against Hullbridge, I didn’t anticipate being in charge for this evening’s match at the time. However, it is an opportunity that I am looking forward to. With Wayne helping Colchester United on an interim basis, Ryan and I are in charge of first team matters. Everyone at the club would like to wish Wayne the very best during his spell at Colchester. He deserves this opportunity and, hopefully, he can help Colchester move away from the relegation zone in League Two.
Since our last home game, results haven’t gone our way with two defeats against AFC Sudbury and Barking. In both games we had lots of entries into the box, but our performance wasn’t of the level we expect. However, it’s clear that the squad has been weakened in recent weeks due to a number of injuries and other issues, with Martyn Stokes being the latest to suffer an injury. Hashtag are on a fine run of form and, as we know, have already beaten us this season. We have introduced new faces ahead of tonight’s game and let’s hope they give us the boost we need in order
to pick up three points. Jay and his team are mounting what looks like being a serious play-off push and are real contenders for promotion – we are the home team and it’s important we focus on what we do best and execute our plans to perfection. The team and I really appreciate your support and the team need your fantastic support, tonight more than ever. Please make plenty of noise and cheer the team on this evening. All the best and enjoy the contest. Paul

MONDAY 3RD JANUARY | THE PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE NORTH | ATT: 299 Maldon & Tiptree kicked off 2022 with a comprehensive win over Hullbridge Sports. Manager Wayne Brown missed the encounter through illness, whilst the Jammers were also without a number of first team players due to either Covid isolation, injury or personal reasons. With assistant manager Paul Abrahams in charge, the Jammers came out of the traps quickly and started to create chances from the off. Aaron Williams-Bushell had the first opportunity following smart footwork from Shomari Barnwell, but the wide-man curled his effort past the post. Moments later, Maldon had the ball in the net as Bradley McClenaghan converted Bryan Ifeanyi’s cross, only for the assistant referee to raise his flag for a narrow offside call. Abrahams’ side continued to press forward and McClenaghan almost had his first assist of the afternoon, but Phil Brown-Bampoe was unable to convert as his chance sailed wide. After fifteen minutes, the Jammers had a second goal ruled out for offside. Olumide Oluwatimilehin’s effort from the edge of the box rebounded off the post to the feet of Ifeanyi who tapped home, but the goal was chalked off once more. After such a positive and dominant start, the Jammers struggled to maintain their creation of chances as the game headed towards the interval.

MALDON & TIPTREE vs HASHTAG UNITED
Following a frustrating first half, Abrahams made a tactical change at the break with Emmanuel Martins replacing McClenaghan, resulting in a change of formation that saw Correy Davidson play in a more advanced position. The change had an immediate impact, as Maldon continued to dominate and Martyn Stokes saw his header cleared off the line. Eight minutes into the half, the Jammers had their breakthrough. Davidson found space between the midfield and defence where he threaded a cute pass through to Ifeanyi who provided a delicious cross into the box. Hullbridge defender Emmanuel FORLAIN could do nothing but turn it into his own net. Spurred on by their first goal, the hosts had a second two minutes later. A clever free-kick from Davidson found STOKES all alone at the far post as the visiting defence watched on and, with all the time in the world, he planted a delicate header into the far corner. Having opened up a two-goal cushion, the Jammers controlled the contest from there with Tommy Dixon-Hodge not called upon in the home goal. An impressive performance from both the Jammers and Barnwell deserved another goal and in the 90th minute he was rewarded. A pin-point ball from Davidson beat the Hullbridge back line and they could only watch on as BARNWELL kept his cool to slot home his eighth goal of the campaign.

COLCHESTER APPOINT WAYNE First team manager Wayne Brown has been appointed interim head coach at Colchester United following the departure of Hayden Mullins in midweek.
It is the third time in his managerial career that Brown has taken over at the U’s on an interim basis. Back at Park Drive, Wayne’s assistant Paul Abrahams will be in charge of first team affairs during his absence.
JAMMERS BUSY BOLSTERING SQUAD Maldon & Tiptree have been busy in recent weeks strengthening the playing squad as the Jammers look to make a push for the top five in the second half of the campaign. Eoin McKeown, Joshua Green, Dequane Wilson-Braithwaite and Rob Lacey have all bolstered the Jammers’ ranks as the side look to focus on the remainder of the league campaign. Forward McKeown joins for his third stint at Park Drive on dual-registration with Braintree Town, with the 23-year-old having netted four goals in 13 outings for the Jammers during his two previous spells on loan from Colchester United.
Green and WilsonBraithwaite both make the switch to Essex from Cambridgeshire outfit St Neots Town. 20-year-old defender Wilson-Braithwaite was formerly with both Tottenham Hotspur and Luton Town as a youngster, whilst Green is an addition to the Jammers’ forward line. Most recently, midfielder Lacey moved from East Thurrock United to Park Drive just yesterday, having turned out 21 times this season for the Rocks. The former Canvey Island man said: “I’m excited to get started. I know where this club deserves to be and that starts by pushing up the league table.”

SATURDAY 8TH JANUARY | THE PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE NORTH | ATT: 222
AFC Sudbury dealt the first defeat of the new year to Maldon & Tiptree just under a fortnight ago at the Wardale Williams Stadium. With Wayne Brown returning to the touchline after his illness, neither side would really test the opposing goalkeepers in the opening half. The hosts had the majority of possession, though, and did hit the woodwork on one occasion. After a difficult first 45, the Jammers made two changes at the break, with Scott Kemp and Phil Brown-Bampoe replacing Bryan Ifeanyi and Aaron Williams-Bushell. The substitutions resulted in a change of formation and the tactical alterations almost had an immediate impact. Maldon created a succession of chances, with Frankie Terry, Shomari Barnwell and Shad Ngandu all having
chances which were either blocked or sent wide. The best chance fell to the in-form Barnwell after Ngandu’s corner hadn’t been dealt with by the home goalkeeper. With the ball falling to the imposing striker’s feet, Barnwell was unable to convert the chance from inside the six-yard box. It would prove to be the Jammers’ best opportunity to take something from the game and, with a quarterof-an-hour to play, Sudbury capitalised on a sloppy pass to bag the only goal of the game. Jake Clowsley latched onto the loose ball, driving towards goal and drilling an effort into the bottom corner from just outside the area. Tommy Dixon-Hodge needed to be on hand in the Jammers’ goal to keep the deficit to one as Maldon pushed for an equaliser, but the Sudbury defence stood strong to earn a first win in five.

Hashtag United Football Club was founded in 2016 by YouTube creator Spencer Owen, initially set up as a group of friends playing a charity match to honour a childhood friend. Over the next two years, Hashtag played friendlies and exhibition matches in an innovative league format devised by Spencer. The team had points targets set for a group of games, and if the targets were achieved, the team would be rewarded by The Chairman and would progress to the next level. The team played in this format across seven countries against pro football staff teams, fellow YouTube creators, sponsor/brand teams, non-league and Sunday sides. The squad was bolstered by the addition of YouTube creators Theo
MALDON & TIPTREE vs HASHTAG UNITED
Baker and Charlie Morley, and then graduates of the Hashtag Academy talent series which had run on Spencer’s channel. Several thousand applicants were whittled down over a series of football challenges which eventually saw 16-year-old Scott Pollock emerge victorious. After impressing for Hashtag, Scott joined Northampton Town, making his senior debut in the 2018/19 season. During this initial chapter the club also participated in the Next Level sevena-side YouTube league and were invited to play in front of thousands of fans in the annual Wembley Cup alongside some of their footballing heroes. In 2018 the club applied for entry into
the FA’s National League System, looking to make the considerable transition from exhibition team to a competitive club in the 10th tier of English football. They were granted a place in the Eastern Senior League Division 1 (South) for the 2018/19 season and appointed experienced nonleague manager Jay Devereux to lead the transition, with home games being played at Haringey Borough’s stadium. Despite a tough start, thanks to two long winning runs the team ended the season as champions, ensuring promotion at the first time of asking. The squad for the club’s Essex Senior League campaign was further bolstered by the addition of more experienced non-league players and several from the second Academy series including winner Joshua Osude. At the point at which the 2019/20 season was voided, the club sat second with games in hand over the league leaders, and in two cup semi-finals.
The 2020/21 season was curtailed, but not before the club had a chance to make a dramatic debut in the Emirates FA Cup. A narrow victory over Park View in the Extra Preliminary round was followed by an extraordinary game against Felixstowe & Walton United, which ended in the second-longest penalty shoot out in FA Cup history, The Tags winning 13-12. The following round again saw the team pitched against higher opposition, with the BBC Sport cameras in attendance for the tie against Soham Town Rangers. Another penalty shootout victory followed, setting up a huge challenge against Braintree Town in the Second Qualifying Round. Despite Hashtag taking the lead in the dying minutes, Braintree equalised immediately and then went on to win the shootout, The Tags’ penalty luck finally running out. At the time the league season was suspended, Hashtag sat top of the Essex Senior League, and in
May 2021 the FA awarded the club promotion to the Isthmian League Division One North by virtue of their PPG record in 2019-21. In the 2021 close season, the third Hashtag Academy series saw winger Jake Lindsey crowned champion. He joins the squad for the 2021/22 season along with several other additions from the series. In addition to the men’s team, Hashtag United also compete in the FA Women’s National League Division One South East, and have over 40 youth teams playing out of Forest Glade near Billericay. Hashtag are also a successful esports (competitive gaming) team, with professional FIFA players competing at the world’s top tournaments. In 2020, Tom Leese was crowned ePL champion, and he then ended the FIFA21 season as Europe’s top player on PlayStation.

JAY DEVEREUX
Jay has had 25 years experience of non-league football, having coached and played at every level of the non-league pyramid. His playing career was cut short due to injury so he moved into coaching with Barking, then managed the reserve side at Dagenham & Redbridge and also Redbridge. He also spent seven seasons at East Thurrock United as assistant manager, where he helped them to progress to National League South and two FA Cup first round appearances.

GOALKEEPERS JAMIE JACKSON One of the few Hashtag Originals left in the squad, Jacko is a familiar face not only for Hashtag fans, but also for his appearances on Soccer AM. His non-league career spans over 2 decades, taking in clubs such as Slough Town, Chesham United, Harrow Borough and Hemel Hempstead Town. ANTHONY PAGE Anthony joined us during our 2020/21 Emirates FA Cup run, bringing a wealth of experience from previous clubs including Romford, Heybridge Swifts, Grays Athletic, and Ware.
DEFENDERS SIMON PEDDIE The hugely experienced defender joined the club in late 2018, and is well-known to manager Devs from his time spent at East Thurrock. His former clubs also include Tilbury, Redbridge and Boreham Wood. Simon also gained two caps for Montserrat. STEVIE HART-SHEEHAN Stevie joined us just in time to make his debut in our first Isthmian League game against Coggeshall Town. He is well-known to Devs, Joe and Essex football in general, having played for the likes of East Thurrock, Canvey Island, Billericay Town, Braintree Town and Aveley.
HARRY HAYSOM Harry was brought into the first team fold in summer 2021 after impressing with the Reserves. Now standing at 6ft4, Charlton’s Academy staff once told him he was too small to make a centre back! ROWAN DORLING Rowan made it to the latter stages of the 2021 Academy series, but was already familiar to the club, having played against us for Sawbridgeworth Town. He’s a ballplaying centre back who honed his skills on the futsal pitch. ELI BENOIT Eli joined us early in the 21-22 season, linking up with old gaffer Joe Keith and cousin Kiers. His previous clubs include Hythe Town, Barking, Basildon Utd and Tilbury. MATTHEW WOOLDRIDGE Matt impressed at both ends of the pitch during the 2021 Hashtag Academy series, where he reached the final 4. MIDFIELDERS ROSS GLEED A previous Hashtag Fans’ Player of the Year Ross joined the team at the start of the 2018/19 season, playing both in defence and midfield. LEE HURSIT Formerly at Dagenham and Redbridge, Lee progressed from appearances in early Hashtag Sunday League and exhibition games to making his first team debut in our 2018/19 season. After an impressive start in the ESL last season, an injury kept him out for the majority of the campaign. We’re hoping to see him back to full strength this season. JONI VUKAJ Joni joined us in summer 2021 as the runner-up in the club’s 3rd Academy series, although he had already caught our eye when playing for Woodford Town and Clapton. Joni also had a spell in the pro game in Albania and Kosovo. JOE DEBELL Joe first came to our attention in the 2019 Academy series, and joined us in summer 2021 from Heybridge Swifts. He and his sister are unique in that they’ve both played for the club! CARLOS FLOOD Carlos is making the step up from the Reserves for the 21-22 season after impressing for them and in our Academy series in the summer. IYIOLA ADEBAYO Iyiola recently joined from West Ham United where he previously played for their U18s.

FORWARDS JAKE LINDSEY Jake is proof that you should never give up on your dream. He applied for the 2019 Hashtag Academy series and failed to make the latter stages, but came back and won it - and a paid club contract - in 2021. Jake’s former clubs include Hassocks and Horsham YMCA.
KIERNAN HUGHES-MASON Former pro Kiers joined the club to manage the reserve team in the summer of 2020 but was drafted in to Devs’ squad early in the season but his talents proved too hard to resist and he ended up playing on a regular basis. An Arsenal schoolboy, Kiers played in the Football League for Millwall and then enjoyed a successful nonleague career at clubs such as Kettering, Grimsby, Welling and Leatherhead.
KOJO APENTENG Having spent time at both West Ham and Southend United when younger, Kojo joined in the summer of 2021. His other previous clubs include Corinthian Casuals, Brentwood Town, Barking and Great Watering Rovers. JESSE WALLER-LASSEN Once at Spurs, Jesse joined us from Rebel FC, after scoring against us at Wembley. Despite impressing early in the 2019/20 season, Jesse took an extended break from football before rejoining the club for the 2020/21 campaign. JOSH OSUDE The winner of the club’s Hashtag Academy Series 2 in 2019, Josh provided some eye-catching, match-winning moments during his first spell at the club. After leaving for Braintree Town in the 2021 close season and making appearances on loan for Tilbury, Josh returned to the club in September. LUKE HIRST Luke joined early in the 21-22 season from Basildon United, but his links with two team-mates go way back as he was at school with Harry Haysom and Toby Aromolaran. His former clubs also include Bowers & Pitsea. SAM BANTICK Sam rejoined the club in November 2021 after a spell at Coggeshall Town. MALDON & TIPTREE
CLUB HISTORY
In 2009, Ed Garty took over the ownership of Maldon Town from Michael Kirkham, whilst still in charge of running Tiptree United and installed Alan Brockhouse as Maldon Town’s new chairman. Following the takeover, Colin Wallington returned for a second spell in charge of Maldon Town, leaving his post as Tiptree United manager immediately. Colin previously managed Maldon Town from 2003 until 2007, having achieved promotion in the 200506 via the play-off final. Having left Maldon in 2007, Colin went on to manage Tiptree United where he achieved promotion winning the

Eastern Counties Division One title in the 2007/08 season. Until the conclusion of the 2009/10 season both Maldon Town & Tiptree United played their home games at Park Drive, under a ground share arrangement. In the summer of 2010, Maldon Town & Tiptree United amalgamated to form, Maldon & Tiptree Football Club, under the ownership of Ed Garty. As a result of the amalgamation, Tiptree United withdrew from the Essex Senior League, resulting in the club’s last ever fixture being a 3-1 defeat against Enfield 1893 on 24 April 2010. Maldon & Tiptree took
the place of Maldon Town in the Isthmian Division One North. Following the retirement of Colin Wallington, Assistant Manager, Brad King and Glen Knight were appointed as the clubs JointManager. As the pair’s first managerial role, the new club witnessed wholesale changes with only a handful of players remaining who finished the season with Maldon Town and Tiptree United, respectively. The 2010-11 campaign saw the new club remain in or around the play-off positions for the majority of the season, finishing in eighth
place to finish the season with sixty-three points. Despite the high turnover of players, the good standard of football was maintained and it was in the end, a disappointing end to the season, for the club to fall away in the later stages of the season when suspensions and injuries eventually took their toll to leave the club frustratingly short of the play-off positions at the end of April. The 2011-12 season, proved to not be so successful and in November 2011, King and Knight were relieved of their duties with immediate effect. Ex-Charlton professional Mike Flanagan was appointed as Caretaker Manager and remained in place until the end of the season, steering the club to a respectful mid-table finish, managing thirty-three games and finishing with a win percentage of 49.12%. At the start of the 2012-13 campaign, Ex-Stansted & Redbridge boss Terry Spillane was appointed as Manager, and Mike Flanagan departed the club. The change of management, once again brought wholesale changes with the playing squad. Ex Tiptree United manager, Jody was brought to the club as Terry’s Assistant Manager. After a fantastic and unbeaten start to the season, the club found themselves at the top of the table but an incredible run by eventual Champions Grays Athletic meant Maldon had to settle for a place in the play-offs – Terry’s side remained unbeaten until Boxing Day, when they lost away from home against local rivals Heybridge Swifts. Disappointment came in the play-off final however when they lost a two goal lead to draw with Thamesmead Town, who thenwent on to win the final,on penalties.
After a disappointing end to the previous season, Terry Spillane oversaw more wholesale changes in the playing squad, including the departure of Assistant Manager, Jody Brown. Despite the changes, Maldon finished in ninth position with seventy-six points, winning twenty-one games. More changes to the playing staff, resulted in poor start to the 2014-15 season, and the club parted ways with Spillane in September 2014, with Chairman, Ed Garty takeover as Caretaker Manager, for three games. At the end of September 2014, Alan Kimble was appointed as manager and remained in charge for the remainder of the season, however the side struggled and more changes in the playing staff occurred. Maldon finished the season in nineteenth place with only forty-nine points. During the 2014-15 season, Media Officer at the time, Richard Buckby ran a competition for supporters to vote for a club nickname, with the options The River Boys, The Marshmen, The Mudmen and The Jammers available. The vote took place in January 2015 and was featured on National Radio station, TalkSport, with the The Jammers winning the vote with over 50% and being confirmed as the clubs new nickname. Following the completion of the 2014-15 season, the club linked with Colchester United and the two clubs formed close ties, which resulted in ex Ipswich Town midfielder, David Wright being appointed as First Team Manager. Wright remained in charge until December 2015 as he was appointed Assistant Manager of Colchester United. Liam Bailey took charge of the First Team on
a temporary basis, only managing one game, which finished four-all against Tilbury on Boxing Day in 2015. Moving into 2016, exLeiston Manager, Steve Ball was appointed First Team Manager and steered the club to a respectable finish in the league table climbing to seventh place, only missing out on the play-off places by nine points. In the closed season, a change of Management at Colchester United saw Steve Ball appointed as their Assistant Manager, leaving his position of Maldon & Tiptree Manager as a result. Ex-Manchester City midfielder, Kevin Horlock was then appointed as First Team manager ahead of the 2016-17 campaign and for the majority of the season, the Jammers sat at the top of the table before slipping away to finish in second place. Horlock’s side managed to reach the play-off final, however lost to Thurrock one-nil. The following campaign was not quite as successful for Horlock, with Maldon finishing just outside the play-off places in seventh place, with sixty-nine points. After managing 112 games, Kevin Horlock departed in the closed season and was replaced by ex-Colchester defender, Wayne Brown. In Brown’s first season in charge, the 2018-19 season, the Jammers finished in second place and reached the play-off final, but lost on penalties against local rivals, Heybridge Swifts. The 2019-20 season was one to remember for the club, but for the right and wrong reasons. The club achieved great things in the Emirates FA Cup. Having reached the First Round proper of the competition, Maldon beat League Two side, Leyton Orient away from home, taking over 600

fans to the home of The O’s, with the goals coming from Danny Parish and a superb solo goal from Jorome Slew. In the second round proper, Maldon were drawn against Football League side, Newport County with the game being shown live on National Television– with the Jammers only beaten by the League Two side, with a goal in stoppage time, with the game finishing 1-0. A record attendance of 1876 was recorded. However, the 2019-20 season will also be remembered for the wrong reasons. After impressive performances on the field, the Jammers found themselves top of the Isthmian Division One North, thirteen points clear with four games in hand, when disaster struck. With a global pandemic declared, as a result of Coronavirus, the league competition was formally abandoned on 26 March 2020, with all results from the season being expunged, and no promotion or relegation taking place to, from, or within the division. The club were denied a chance of promotion and forced to remain in the Division One North for the 2020-21 season.
ED GARTY STEPPED DOWN AS CHAIRMAN IN OCTOBER 2020 Following the disappointing end to the 2019-20 season, Wayne Brown remained in charge of the club and wholesale changes in the playing squad occurred again, with a number of the previous season’s squad securing transfers to clubs higher up the football pyramid. The Jammers were dealt a big blow in October 2020 when owner and Chairman Ed Garty stood down from his position with immediate effect, ending a challenging ten years at the helm. After a period of uncertainty for

the football club, General Manager Ron Dangerfield was confirmed as the new Chairman, with Richard Cowling taking ownership of the football club. Just like the 2019-20 season, the 2020-21 campaign was terminated with promotion and relegation denied for all the sides competing in the Division One North. However, prior to the curtailment the Jammers had reached the Emirates FA Cup First Round for the second successive season, this time losing to Morecambe 1-0 in front of the television cameras. Brown’s side also achieved their longest ever run in the Buildbase FA Trophy, eventually losing to Gloucester City. The Jammers were only able to play in five league games, finishing in third place before the season was curtailed. Heading in to the 2021/22 season, Wayne Brown remains in charge of the first team and is now the club’s longest-serving manager, holding the record for the most games managed in charge of Maldon & Tiptree Football Club.

Stokes is a central defender with a winning pedigree.
