BiograPhies AngeLA CUmmIngs angela  cummings  was  born  in  austria  and raised in the united States. She received her formal  design,  gem  and  jewellery  training  in Italy  and  Germany  before  returning  to  the uSa and joining the prestigious design team at Tiffany  &  co  in  1968.    by  1975,  Tiffany  was offering  jewels  under  the  angela  cummings design name.  angela cummings joyful designs incorporated bold forms and bright colours with unexpected  combinations  of  materials.    In  1984,

One of blancpain's most popular models is the fifty  fathoms,  launched  in  1953.  Worn  by Jacques-Yves cousteau, among others. The fifty fathoms was a standard among divers, and has recently been revived. The  introduction  of  the  quartz  movement inspired  blancpain  to  focus  on  the  traditional movement and the production of "grande complication"  wristwatches.  This  focus  produced renewed  interest  in  the  brand,  and  revitalized blancpain  as  an  important  luxury  product. blancpain boutiques have opened in major cities around the world.

cummings formed her own company and her design line has been offered through bergdorf

BOUCheROn

Goodman and other prestige retailers.

frédéric  boucheron  wished  to  be  the  watchmaker of “Joyful Hours” and, through this vision, created  watches  that  celebrate  life’s  special moments.  established  in  1866,  the  Maison quickly  developed  a  reputation  for  timepieces and  joyful  jewels  featuring  animals,  and  textilelike treatment of precious metals. 1900  at  the  universal  exhibition  in  Paris,  The Maison boucheron received the gold medal and was established as one of the forerunners of the art Nouveau movement. among the illustrious clients of boucheron: ava Gardner, Joan crawford, who acquired a jewelry  set  made  of  aquamarine  stones  and  diamonds, later purchased by andy Warhol. Sarah bernhardt  repeatedly  ordered  replicas  of  her pets, set onto rings and necklaces. edith Piaf was a regular client for watches. In 1921, the Maison boucheron created an exceptional diadem that became  one  of  the  british  Queen  Mother’s favorites. Madeleine astor was a faithful client of frédéric boucheron’s. as a passenger on the Titanic, Mrs. astor  survived  the  sinking,  her  husband  having gallantly  given  his  place  on  the  lifeboat  to  a woman. all of her magnificent collection of jewels disappeared in the ocean that night, except for  a  sapphire  and  diamond  ring,  which  Mrs. astor  was  wearing.  She  wore  it  always  after that, in remembrance of her valiant husband.

ALeTTO BROs famous  for  the  creation  of  fine  jewellery  and the  use  of  exceptional  gems,  aletto  brothers can  trace  their  roots  back  to  the  turn  of  the 19th  century,  when  current  director,  alfredo aletto’s great grandfather was commissioned to create  a  special  jewel  to  commemorate  the opening of the eiffel Tower. a family business, multiple generations embrace the opportunities that a smaller world offers, internationally seeking interesting and exceptional gems to incorporate into beautifully crafted jewels.  BIRks canada's premier jewellery retailer was founded in 1879, in Montreal, canada, by Henry birks. birks quickly became the prime destination for discerning  jewellery  connoisseurs.  The  20th century  saw  prominent  jewellers  ellis  brothers and Ryrie incorporated with the birks name.  by the late twentieth century, canadian diamonds had become a central part of the birks engagement  ring  business.  birks  continues  to  be  a leader  in  the  canadian  jewellery  industry,  and the name Maison birks was unveiled in 2013. BLAnCpAIn In  1735,  Jehan-Jacques  blancpain  founded  the brand  bearing  his  name,  which  is  now  the world's  oldest  watchmaking  brand,  and,  with  a focus  on  traditional  watch  movements,  continues to feature the skills of the watchmaker. In 1926, the manufacture started marketing the first  automatic  wristwatch.  by  1930,  blancpain adapted  the  system  to  watches  of  small  size, and  launched  the  world's  first  women's  automatic watch.

BReITLIng established  in  1884,  breitling  swiftly  became associated with sports. The accurate timing provided  by  breitling,  and  the  innovative  separate buttons  for  timer  start  and  reset  made  these timepieces a premier choice in the sports world. With  the  advent  of  aviation,  breitling  naturally became the wristwatch of choice for pilots. The brand remains a top choice among adventurers 1 8 6

looking for reliability in a watch. BULgARI Descending from an ancient family of Greek silversmiths, Sotirio bulgari founded the company in  1881,  manufacturing  precious  silver  objects. During the late 19th century, Sotirio moved to Italy and in 1884 opened his first shop in Rome. In  1905,  with  the  help  of  his  sons  costantino and  Giorgio,  he  inaugurated  the  shop  in  via condotti, which remains bulgari’s flagship store. In  the  early  20th  century  the  two  brothers developed a deep interest and expertise in precious  stones,  jewels  and  watches.  The  period immediately  after  the  Second  World  War marked an important turning point in the history of bulgari. Giorgio and costantino decided to create a unique style inspired by Greco-Roman classicism, the Italian Renaissance, and the 19th century Roman school. by the 1950’s-60’s, the bold and innovative style of bulgari had gained success within the jet set and movie world, and they focused on jewels with precious gems. In 1977 bulgari launched the bvLGaRI watch, a worldwide  success  story.  The  watch  component  of  bulgari  has  become  a  very  important part of the business since then. CARReRA Y CARReRA established in 1885, this Spanish house has kept its style current through innovation, introduction of  new  ideas,  designs,  and  designers,  and  by embracing changing markets around the world. figurative  work,  and  naturalistic  flowing  forms are  central  elements  of  carrera  y  carrera designs,  which  are  represented  in  the  great houses of europe. CARTIeR Louis-françois cartier founded cartier, in Paris, in 1847. He had three grandsons, Louis, Pierre and  Jacques,  who  were  responsible  for  establishing the famous world-wide empire. The next fifty years saw many milestones: Royal clientele from  england,  Siam  (now  Thailand),  Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy, and Monaco. cartier, in 1906, first introduced jewellery in the geometric style  that  was  later  to  become  known  as  art Deco. among the exceptional jewels and gems sold  by  cartier  was  the  famous  blue  diamond “The  Hope”,  now  in  the  permanent  collection of  the  Smithsonian,  in  Washington.  cartier moved  to  their  current  location  at  653  fifth avenue,  New  York  in  1917.  The  Morton  f. Plant mansion was exchanged for a two strand natural  oriental  pearl  necklace  for  Mrs.  Plant,

and $100 for Mr. Plant. The name cartier continues  to  evoke  the  image  of  luxury  like  no other. CAveLTI The youngest son of a Swiss family, Toni cavelti served a long apprenticeship in the goldsmith's trade,  developing  a  magical  skill  in  jewellery design. at the age of 23, equipped with only $8, the tools of his trade and a romantic vision of the  canadian  West,  he  arrived  in  vancouver. There he made his fortune by creating fine jewellery for “society” women, including the Queen. In 1971 he was commissioned to make a necklace of b.c. gold and local jade to mark a royal visit.  The modernist artistic movement under way in the  vancouver  of  the  '50s  and  '60s  brought cavelti’s work to its full flowering, and helped to establish  his  national  and  international  reputation. ChAneL In 1910, Gabrielle chanel opened her first shop in  Paris,  under  the  name  "chanel  Modes." chanel’s  elegant  simplicity  was  an  immediate success,  and  inspired  the  fashion  industry around the world In 1932, Gabrielle chanel hosted an exhibition of  fine  jewellery  “bijoux  de  Diamants”  in  her residence,  establishing  her  affinity  for  the  diamond.  The  first  chanel  watches  were  launched  in 1987, with the creation of the Première watch, designed  by  Jacques  Helleu,  the  dial  of  the watch  being  reminiscent  of  the  shape  of  the Place  vendôme  and  the  stopper  of  the  iconic chanel N°5 bottle. The  J12,  chanel’s  ceramic  sport  watch  was introduced in 2000, and immediately became a standard.  The  ceramic,  in  women’s  and  men’s styles, provides a lightness of look, but solidity of materials. cHauMeT The history of chaumet dates back to 1780 and is closely interwoven with the history of france.  The  wedding  of  Napoleon  and  Josephine,  and later  with  the  archduchess  Marie-Louise  de Habsburg-Lorraine,  niece  of  Queen  Marieantoinette, brought chaumet numerous sumptuous  orders.  chaumet  became  the  most famous jeweller in europe and built up a prestigious clientele. Inspired  by  the  enchantment  of  nature,  Joseph

chaumet  established  himself  as  the  absolute Master  of  the  belle  epoque.   With  his  elegant creations,  he  attracted  royals  and  aristocrats. aigrettes  and  tiaras  became  a  very  important part  of  the  firm’s  designs.  chaumet  has  produced  more  than  1,500  different  models  of tiaras. chaumet  created  simplified  designs  contained within rigid geometric outlines of the art Deco period in the 1920’s and 30’s. Responding to the continuous social, economic and artistic changes, chaumet has maintained its legendary  reputation.  Design  is  determined  by the good taste of the contemporary Parisienne, always in search of something new, different and sumptuous. ChOpARd In 1860, in the Swiss village of Sonvilier, Louisulysse chopard, a talented timepiece craftsman, established  his  workshop.  His  watches  were quickly  recognized  for  their  quality,  and  were quickly in demand throughout europe. chopard has developed into a brand known for both  its  fine  timepieces,  and  its  joyful  jewels, with  styles  such  as  Happy  Diamonds,  and watches that are as reliable as they are a pleasure to wear. cORuM established  in  1955,  in  La  chaux-de-fonds, Switzerland, corum has established its place in the world of timepiece production with numerous  innovations  and  iconic  designs.  The ‘admiral’s  cup’,  introduced  in  1960,  remains  a central  element  of  the  brand.  The  1964  introduction  of  an  ultra  flat  movement  mounted inside  a  coin  proved  exceptionally  popular.  In the  year  2000,  the  corum  bubble  was  introduced, bringing a distinct element of novelty and urban chic to the wrists of corum clients.   dAvId WeBB Originally  from  North  carolina,  David  Webb moved  to  New  York,  and  in  1948,  he  formed David  Webb  Inc.,  located  on  57th  Street. Within a few years, he had established himself as  one  of  the  most  fashionable  jewellers  in Manhattan, and at the height of production his two  full-time  workshops  employed  200  jewellers and 37 setters. The  New  York  social  register  flocked  to  him. They warmed to his personal charm and appreciated his brilliance as a designer.  David  Webb’s  designs  of  the  1950s  and  early 1 8 7

1960s showcased endless variations on flowers and  organic  forms.  His  love  of  nature  took shape in jewels of all sizes and varieties. almost all of his iconic animal jewelry was designed in the  1960s.  The  times  were  changing  and  he embraced  them:  the  rich  vocabulary  of  hammered gold, enamel, pearls, colors, textures and shapes  were  synthesized  into  a  new  geometry that reflected the spirit of the 1970s. FABeRgé During its relatively brief history, fabergé established  a  jewellery  name  of  incomparable  proportions.  The  house  was  established  in  1842, and  in  1870,  Peter  carl  fabergé,  became  the head of the company. after winning the patronage  of  the  wealthy  and  Royal  families  in Moscow,  St.  Petersburg,  and  throughout europe, faberge produced the first of the famed Russian  Imperial  easter  eggs  in  1885,  and  was issued  with  the  Russian  Royal  warrant  as  the court  Jeweller.  With  the  official  warrant  from the  Tsar,  royals  from  many  other  parts  of europe embraced the House of fabergé. fabergé was noted for the exquisite work and exceptional  quality  of  the  jewels  and  objects produced  by  the  workshops.  Delicate  enamels and work produced with amazing precision are among  the  most  recognizable  features  of  the jewels  that  captivated  collectors,  particularly after a triumphal showing of Imperial easter eggs at the Paris International exposition of 1900. fabergé,  at  its  peak,  had  massive  workshops, and  many  workmasters  who  ran  their  own workshops  to  produce  fabergé  work.  There were  also  fabergé  stores  in  several  locations, including London, for which items were signed in Western letters instead of cyrillic. The house of fabergé became the favourite of clients  around  the  world,  and  grew  from strength to strength until the Russian bolshevik revolution  forced  the  faberge  family  to  flee  in 1917, spelling the end of the House of fabergé. Many  decades  later,  the  house  of  fabergé  has been  re-born,  producing  modern  jewels,  and also making objects that are reminiscent of the company’s heritage.  enameled eggs are also an important part of the modern fabergé offering. FABeRge, geRmAnY Looking back to an illustrious history in the days of the Russian czars, the name fabergé carries with it a rich history, and a tradition of quality in work and materials. The modern company was started in Germany the 1990’s, and has had ties

with  descendants  of  the  fabergé  family  who produced such important jewels as the Imperial easter eggs in Russia. FRed fred  Samuel,  at  the  age  of  28,  established  his first jewellery store in Paris at 6 rue Royale, in 1936, The son of a jeweller, he was an inventive promoter, and through his charm and connections, was always able to remain in the spotlight in Paris society. With a strong international reputation,  and  with  charm  and  simplicity,  fred designs  continue  to  captivate  the  sophisticated jewellery buyer. His guiding principles: “boldness and discipline”. güBeLIn Gübelin’s origins in Lucerne, Switzerland date to 1854, with the opening of a watchmaker’s shop, by Jakob Josef Moritz breitschmid. The business has bridged the development of vast changes in the watch, jewellery and gem world.  Through many generations, Gübelin has developed  into  a  very  important  jeweller,  with  a strong focus on fine gems. The interest in gems led to a focus on the study of gemmology, and the  establishment  of  a  specialty  gemmological laboratory  under  the  same  name.    Jewellery buyers  have  relied  on  Gübelin’s  understanding of gems to be able to produce the finest jewellery. h. sTeRn Hans Stern, was creating a name for himself in the 1950’s as a jeweller who had a strong focus on coloured gemstones, based in brazil, one of the world’s most important sources of coloured gemstones.  The  company  maintains  a  strong connection  to  its  roots,  and  brings  important and fine gemstones to the world through a network of stores in the major style centres around the world. henRY dUnAY The Henry Dunay brand was created in 1965 in New York, and established a loyal following for its unique designs and fine quality of work. The brand  is  notable  for  intricate  finish  features including fine pavé setting.  ILIAs LALAOUnIs Ilias  Lalaounis  comes  from  a  family  of Goldsmiths  and  watchmakers,  he  joined  the family  business,  Zolotas,  in  1940,  but  by  the 1960’s  Ilias  was  most  interested  in  exploring

themes  inspired  by  ancient  Greek  civilization, and  by  1969,  had  established  an  independent company to focus on his interests. He had great success  with  themes  from  antiquity,  and  this inspired  others  to  explore  ancient  culture through jewellery design. Ilias Lalaounis’ four daughters, katerini, Demetra, Maria  and  Ioanna  direct  jewellery  production and  international  sales.  They  also  operate  a Lalaounis museum. J.e. CALdWeLL & CO founded  in  the  1830’s  by  New  York  trained James emmott caldwell, the iconic Philadelphia jeweller  served  the  needs  of  discerning  buyers for  a  century  and  a  half.  J.e.  caldwell  became famous  for  its  art  Nouveau  jewels  of  the  late 19th century, and the art Deco works of the 1920’s. connoisseurs and collectors continue to recognize  and  seek  these  classics  of  american art  Nouveau  and  art  Deco  jewellery  design. for  ten  years,  during  the  1980s  and  1990s,  J.e caldwell & co. was owned by birks Jewellers. JAR Joel  a.  Rosenthal,  hailing  from  the  bronx,  in New York, attended Harvard university, studying art history before working with bulgari, and moving to Paris. In the late 1970’s he opened his atelier in Place vendome, under the name JaR. The reclusive JaR is famed for planning his rare jewels to fit with his impression of his clients. JaR  jewels  are  highly  sought  among  jewel  collectors.  There  are  very  few  pieces  produced each year.  They frequently sell very well in the auction market. frequently  inspired  by  needlepoint,  JaR  jewels often  utilize  small  coloured  gems  in  a  dark coloured background, creating jewels unlike any other. JaR jewels also use colour and shadow to produce a sense of texture and form. JaR jewels were recently featured in an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of art in New York,  the  only  MeT  feature  exhibition  of  the work of a living jeweler. 400 items of JaR jewellery  were  displayed  in  a  custom  designed space. JAegeR-LeCOULTRe In  1847,  antoine  Lecoultre  created  a  revolutionary system that did away with the need for keys to rewind and set watches. Since that time, the company has produced many innovations to make  timekeeping  simpler,  more  convenient, more accurate, or to accommodate the specific 1 8 8

requirements of clients. Producing complicated watches, and even more sophisticated  chiming  repeater  watches,  the brand  is  known  for  ultra  thin  movements,  and accurate  measurement.  One  of  the  most famous watches is the unusual Reverso, originally designed for english Polo players who wanted to  easily  reverse  the  watch  to  protect  the  dial from damage. While it’s an attractive and highly desired model, this is a minor innovation compared to some of the sophistication that Jaegerlecoultre produces. JOhn dOnALd John Donald, a highly regarded british designer and jeweller, is known for his inventive designs and  interpretations  of  natural  forms,  rendered as wearable art. Most active during the 1960’s, Donald’s  distinctive  designs  were  offered  from his workshop during the early 1960’s and by the later  1960’s  and  1970’s  he  had  retail  stores  in London and Geneva. John  Donald’s  work  was  in  the  collection  of Princess  Margaret,  countess  of  Snowdon,  the sister of the british Queen. His jewels are also in the collections  of numerous museums and aficionados. kaRL STITTGeN Jeweller  and  goldsmith,  karl  Stittgen  began  his career designing and making contemporary jewellery  in  vancouver  in  1959.  Over  several decades  he  created  an  original  and  distinctive body of work inspired by the organic forms of nature  and  the  clean  lines  of  architecture. creations  of  gold,  platinum,  gemstones,  pearls, ancient coins and artifacts earned him loyal customers  and  much  critical  acclaim  during  what some  have  called  the  golden  age  of  design  in vancouver.  Stittgen  received  the  british columbia  creative  achievement  award  of Distinction in vancouver in 2009. LOngInes established in 1832, the Longines watch company became known for innovation in manufacturing  and  marketing.  The  strong  focus  on  the North  american  Market  produced  a  strong demand,  and  by  the  1880's,  Longines  was  so well  known  for  accuracy  and  timing  that  their watch  was  in  the  hands  of  almost  every  horse racing enthusiast in the continent.  Now known for classic timeless design and style, a  Longines  watch  is  still  a  central  accessory  on many stylish wrists.

LOUIs vUITTOn at the age of sixteen, Louis vuitton decided to become  a  trunk  maker.    Luggage  remains  a mainstay  of  the  company  since  its  inception  in 1859.  No longer focused on hard sided luggage, travel is different, and Louis vuitton has kept up with  fashion,  producing  items  that  are  the essence  of  luxury,  beautifully  made,  and  of  the finest materials. Jewels bearing the vuitton logo or name go back to the origins of the brand, with the iconic logo, or the form of small cases in precious metal and gems, as in the bag charms featured in this sale.

MIkIMOTO kokichi  Mikimoto,  the  father  of  the  cultured pearl  industry,  was  the  first  to  patent  the process for culturing pearls. Prior to culturing of pearls  in  the  early  20th  century,  pearls  were accidents of nature, and were only available to a very select few due to their rarity. Pearl markets were  revolutionized  with  Mikimoto's  patent, and made pearls available to a wider audience.  Mikimoto is associated with only the very finest pearls. Traditionally, only 5% of pearls cultured in Japan are of a quality that can be sold internationally,  and  Mikimoto  only  selects  the  top grades of those to sell under their name. The  company  has  produced  jewels  for  several prestigious  jewellery  firms,  including  Marcus  & co., Shreve & co., and cartier. Their pieces are often not signed.  1 8 9

The  Heyman  family  has  run  the  company  for three generations, with each generation imparting centuries-old skills and technical know-how to the next. Today, members of the second and third generation work side by side with dedicated and skilled employees who continue to create jewelry of the highest standards for connoisseurs of the twenty-first century. pATek phILIppe On  May  1st,  1839  businessman  antoni  Patek and watchmaker françois czapek joined forces to found "Patek, czapek & cie" in Geneva.   In 1844, Patek met the french watchmaker, Jeanadrien  Philippe  in  Paris  where  the  latter  presented his pioneering stem winding and setting system by the crown. When czapek decided to leave, the company name changed to "Patek & cie".  Later,  in  1851  when  adrien  Philippe  officially  became  associated  with  the  company,  it was  renamed  "Patek  Philippe  &  cie",  before changing  once  more  in  1901  to  "ancienne Manufacture d’Horlogerie Patek Philippe & cie, S.a.".   In 1932, the company was purchased by two brothers, charles and Jean Stern, owners of a fine dial factory in Geneva. Since then, "Patek Philippe S.a." remains a family owned firm. Patek Philippe is one of the most highly respected names in timepieces, and continues to produce  extraordinary  and  complicated  watches, desired by collectors around the world. pIAgeT In 1874, in La côte-aux-fées, a small Swiss village  Georges  Édouard  Piaget  started  his  first workshop on the family farm and devoted himself  to  making  high-precision  movements  that he soon began supplying to the most prestigious brands.  In  1943,  the  company  made  a  decision  that from  then  on,  the  movement  factory  from  La côte-aux-fées produced watches signed by and sold under its own name.  In  1957,  Piaget  began  to  design  and  build  the ultra-thin  movements,  and  by  1960,  Piaget launched  the  world’s  thinnest  self-winding movement. It measured just 2.3 mm thick. In  1979,  they  launched  the  Piaget  Polo  watch. avant-garde, yet classic enough never to go out of  style,  it  quickly  became  an  icon  that  was adopted by the international jet set. Piaget  fuses  technique  and  design  now  more than ever in jewellery and watchmaking.

founded in New York in 1837 Tiffany remains an  icon  to  jewellery  consumers  around  the world. known for innovation and high standards, Tiffany had adopted the silver standard of “925”, and  95%  standard  for  platinum,  both  later adopted  as  uSa  standards.    In  1886  Tiffany introduced its iconic Tiffany setting providing a light and open setting to best display a diamond.  constantly working to bring the latest in design innovations  to  its  offerings,  Tiffany  regularly brings  designers  to  its  clients;  in  1956,  Jean Schlumberger joined and in the famous annual “blue book” of 1974-75, elsa Peretti was introduced. Paloma Picasso was first featured in 1980 and  architect  frank  Gehry  has  designed  many current offerings.  Drawing on the natural world, the company was early on recognized as a master of art Nouveau and  the  arts  and  crafts  movement.  Through the decades it has remained at the forefront of design, noted for the use of exceptional materials and unwavering standards.

Jean-Marc vacheron founded vacheron in 1755 and his son and grandson eventually succeeded him  in  the  family  business.  In  1819,  françois constantin  joined  as  a  partner,  and  the  name changed  to  vacheron  &  constantin,  only  in 1970 changing to vacheron constantin.  an  innovator  in  the  technical  aspects  of  the timepiece,  vacheron  constantin  has  remained among the most sought after brands in the market.

ROLex In 1905, at the age of 24, Hans Wilsdorf founded a company in London specializing in the distribution of timepieces. Wristwatches were not very  precise  at  the  time,  but  Hans  Wilsdorf foresaw  that  they  could  become  not only  elegant, but also reliable. To  convince  the  public  of  the  reliability  of  his timepieces, he equipped each watch with small, very  precise  movements  manufactured  by  a Swiss watchmaking company in bienne. Rolex  first  concentrated  on  the  quality  of  the movements.  The  relentless  quest  for  chronometric precision rapidly led to success. In 1910, a  Rolex  watch  was  the  first  wristwatch  in  the world  to  receive  the  Swiss  certificate  of chronometric Precision, granted by the Official Watch Rating centre in bienne. four  years  later,  in  1914,  kew  Observatory  in Great  britain  awarded  a  Rolex  wristwatch  a class  “a”  precision  certificate,  a  distinction  that until that point in time had been reserved exclusively for marine chronometers. from that date forward, the Rolex wristwatch was synonymous with precision. Rolex moved to Geneva, a city renowned internationally for watchmaking. Montres Rolex S.a. was  registered  in  Geneva  in  1920.  Since  that time, Rolex has become one of the most widely recognized watches in the world. SeaMaN ScHePPS famed  for  whimsical  jewels,  Seaman  Schepps took the fashion world by storm in the 1930’s to the 1960’s. The fashion magazine spreads of the day were always accessorized with Seaman Schepps jewels. The New York social register of the time followed suit, and it was absolutely the thing to wear large, bold and colourful Seaman Schepps jewels whenever possible.  Seaman Schepps is noted for the use of a profusion of large colourful gemstones. an important icon of Seaman Schepps is polished natural seashells  turned  into  earrings  with  the  clever addition of gold and gemstones.

TRABeRT & hOeFFeR, mAUBOUssIn Trabert & Hoeffer, Mauboussin is a brand name that  came  about  when  the  american  Jeweller Trabert & Hoeffer acquired the inventory of the New  York  store  of  the  famous  Paris  jeweller, Mauboussin, in the wake of the crash of 1929. This  brand  was  used  from  the  1930’s  to  the 1950’s.   One of the most noted styles using the Trabert & Hoeffer, Mauboussin name are retro designs, using curved planes of polished gold, diamonds and cabochon gems.  The name used for many of  the  Trabert  &  Hoeffer,  Mauboussin  jewels was  “Reflection”,  often  made  from  rose  gold and  yellow  gold  components  in  the  familiar Retro style. Trabert  &  Hoeffer  are  now  a  chicago  based jeweller,  and  no  longer  use  the  Mauboussin name.  Jewels  under  the  Trabert  &  Hoeffer, Mauboussin  name  are  very  collectible,  and  are classics of their period.

vAn CLeeF & ARpeLs van cleef & arpels has always been inspired by the  unique  creative  energy  of  love,  for  it  was love which brought the Maison into being. Towards the end of the 19th century, a young girl  named  estelle  arpels  –  the  daughter  of  a dealer  in  precio  us  stones  –  met  a  boy  named alfred van cleef, the son of a stone-cutter.  This  led  them  to  founding  the  Maison  of  van cleef  &  arpels.  In  1906,  alfred  set  up  in  business  with  estelle’s  brother  charles,  a  talented salesman  who  managed  their  new  boutique  in Paris’ Place vendôme. Two years later, estelle’s brother  Julien  joined  the  firm;a  third  brother, Louis, joined them in 1912. Over  the  years  that  followed,  the  name  van cleef  &  arpels  became  synonymous  with  the most exquisite jewellery in the world. With that achievement,  the  love,  which  first  brought estelle and alfred together, lives on to this day through the many enchanting love stories of the Maison.  van  cleef  &  arpels  remains  one  of  the  most desired  names  in  jewellery,  noted  for  many innovations  in  design,  manufacturing  and  gem setting techniques which changed the jewellery landscape and the way we think of jewellery.  veRsACe In  the  global  fashion  centre  of  Milan,  Gianni versace, in 1972, designed and displayed his first ready  to  wear  collection.    from  the  start, versace always had a strong focus on theatrical elements, and these were often combined with creative uses of geometry in space.  Often faces and  mask  forms  are  found  in  versace  designs and jewels, and these bring a mystic presence to the jewels to this day.  *Amongst the information provided in these biographical data are details from the official web sites of the named companies, houses, and designers.
