Nature’s Oasis Executive Chef, Charles Childers is a culinary wanderlust who is internationally trained in Jamaica and Fiji and has worked in well over 100 kitchens learning from as many chefs as he could find. Chef Charles moved to Durango in 1997, and worked as Sous Chef for several well-known area restaurants. He has made multiple television appearances for local stations and has a passion for and is a hall of fame member for the national nonprofit called Cooking Matters of which there are more than 80 branches in the country. Chef Charles attended culinary school at Community College of Southern Nevada and was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada.

El Moro

Spirits & Tavern Embracing Durango, Colorado’s “old west” and Victorian heritage, as well as contemporary culinary trends and techniques, El Moro is part of Durango’s family of unique and independentlyowned restaurants. The name ‘El Moro’ also reflects Durango’s history, as in the early 1900s, 945 Main Avenue truly was the El Moro Saloon. The present day El Moro has some of the ‘feel’ of the original saloon with bared red brick, tin ceiling, hardwood floors and heavy wooden tables. The menu can be described as ‘modern rustic’. The simple and memorable dishes are designed to blend classic, old world preparations with exciting techniques that have evolved from the modern cuisine movement, such as spherification, which will highlight the qualities of the ingredients.
