Saturday, May 25 Highway Closure
when:
8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
where: Highway 550 from Purgatory to Silverton
Animas Valley redirect will take place from 7-9 a.m. Southbound traffic will be rerouted onto County Road 203 from Hermosa to the start of County Road 203 just north of Durango city limits. Northbound traffic leaving Durango during this period will be traveling in southbound lane of Highway 550 from the city limits north to Hermosa, then merging back into the northbound lane.
Both road and tour events will be traveling north from Main Avenue, Highway 550 and 33rd Street between 7-9 a.m. These areas will be impacted with slow traffic, so please avoid them if possible.

HONORING SERVICE MEMBERS

Celebrating community and camaraderie is the core mission of the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic. While the focus of this local tradition is cycling, the event during Memorial Day weekend is also an opportunity to honor service members.
Each year, event organizers in partnership with the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, organize an excursion available at no cost to active duty military, veterans and military-affiliated gold and blue star parents, spouses and family members.
Passengers are treated to coffee and pastries before boarding the train at 7:15 a.m. When the train departs at 7:45 a.m., the special guests ride comfortably in train cars on a similar route as the racing cyclists to Silverton. Here they are treated to lunch followed by a special ceremony in Silverton’s Memorial Park.
Following the ceremony, special guests will be transported back to Durango by bus around 3 p.m. Saturday.
