SPIRITS cocktail competition

Mountain Spirits Cocktail Competition

Bartenders face-off in a creative challenge For the second year, Four Corners Expos will host the Mountain Spirits Cocktail Competition at What A Girl Wants to raise money for the Women’s Resource Center. The event begins at noon. Guests must be 21 to participate. This year, we have three participants competing for a traveling trophy. These contestants represent different bars and restaurants in Durango, including Honey House Distillery, Cyprus Café and Eno Cocktail Lounge and Wine Bar, and Wild Horse Saloon. How it works: The participating contestants from local bars will create and present a full-format vodka cocktail of their choice to a panel of three judges, and tastings to attendees. Judging: Each drink will be judged on five categories: Creativity, appearance, taste, demonstration of skill and the bartender’s explanation of the drink and ingredients. The three judges will rank these categories from 1-5. What A Girl Wants attendees who also purchase a ticket to the contest will receive a wristband at the door to participate in the judging. Guests can watch the bartenders craft their drinks, and are allowed two tastings of each cocktail. The cocktail with the highest score from the judges and most patron votes will win the trophy. Guest voting will close at 2:45 p.m. Judges will then taste the full-format cocktails, and the winner will be announced at 3 p.m. Tickets: Purchase tickets for Mountain Spirits Cocktail Competition at the door or pick them up at one of the participating locations: Eno Cocktail and Wine Bar, Cyprus Café, Wild Horse Saloon, Honey House Distillery and The Durango Herald. Tickets are $15.

Women’s Resource Center

Since 1987, the Women’s Resource Center has advocated for the personal empowerment and economic self-sufficiency of women and girls in La Plata County. We are known locally as “the place to go when you don’t know where to go,” and we believe that by enhancing the lives of local women, we build stronger families and strengthen the entire community.

Our community has literally hundreds of resources to help women, but finding them can be tough. That’s why we’re here. We offer a supportive environment where women can find the resources they need to take care of themselves and their families. Whether a person needs legal assistance, food, shelter or clothing; yearns for a quiet office space to update her resume; would like to pursue additional education; wants to start or expand her existing business; or would benefit from professional development coaching, we take the time to learn about the unique challenges each person faces and help them develop a plan of action to expand their horizons and thrive. Need a little help? We encourage you to call or drop by our office to talk with one of our staff members. You don’t need an appointment and you are always welcome. We’re here to support you as you change, prosper, and grow!

Want to become a part of the dynamic WRC Team? Give us a call to learn about volunteer opportunities, or go to www.WRCdurango.org to donate and become a member. Together we can make a difference!
