IMMEDIATE RELEASE 11th July 2012 SOCCEREX AFRICAN FORUM 23/24 October 2012 The inaugural Soccerex African Forum to be held at Southern Sun Elangeni in October 23/24 in Durban later this year is expected to attract more than 1 000 delegates. Southern Sun Hotels’ spokesperson, Mike Jackson, is delighted that Durban has been chosen to host the inaugural Soccerex African Forum for 2012 and further to March 2014. “Durban survives on Events and Leisure”, says Jackson. “Without events, conferences and school holidays, the Durban hotels struggle. The City and the Province are focussing on bidding for conferences and events for Durban and KZN and Tsogo Sun fully supports their efforts. In order to grow Durban and KZN’s economy, we need to grow our tourism arrivals. TKZN and Durban Tourism have our support as they embark on their Tourism Master Plan Strategy. Soccerex Chief Executive Duncan Revie said that Durban’s “fervour, enthusiasm and the involvement of the city and the province” had made it the winning bid to host the football indaba. The forum will analyse key issues affecting the African game and explore sponsorship models and new media opportunities. Other topics include “the business and social legacy of the World Cup”, “broadcasting and media” and “stadia management”. Says Mike Mabuyakhulu, the Provincial Economic Development and Tourism MEC “Soccerex fits into our strategy to make KZN a mecca for major events. We want to make it the best destination for sport”.
