On behalf of our students, faculty, staff and Board of Governors, I'd like to congratulate all our Durham College Lords teams and athletes on yet another outstanding and successful OCAA season. What a year it has been! Your achievements have made everyone at Durham College tremendously proud. From team triumphs, to the hosting of national and provincial championships, and the celebration of our rich sporting history through our annual Hall of Fame inductions, Durham College continues to establish itself as one of the best varsity athletic programs in Canada. The past year has been particularly exciting, as our women’s golf team made history by winning the college’s second ever national championship, to go along with its provincial gold and a silver for the men’s golf team. On the diamonds we were as strong as ever, with our men's baseball and women’s fastball teams both winning provincial titles and then finishing amongst the top teams in Canada. The year was capped in spectacular fashion when the Lords hosted the CCAA men’s basketball national championships. Make no mistake about it, whether a season ends with a medal or not, we’re extremely proud of all our student-athletes, our coaches, managers, varsity staff and the rest of the Athletics department. Your commitment to your team, your studies and the college have all helped bring to life the college’s mission that the student experience comes first. Congratulations again on a fantastic year. Go Lords! Go Lords! Don Lovisa President, Durham College

The past year has been one for the record books. A truly remarkable and outstanding list of accomplishments by our Lords teams and numerous amazing individual achievements mark the varsity year that was 2010-11. Including our first ever women's National Championship title. On behalf of the entire department of Athletics and Durham College I wish to acknowledge the many successes enjoyed this past year by our teams, coaches, student-athletes, athletic therapy crew and supporting team staff. DC has a steep history and tradition of excellence in the OCAA and CCAA and those that wore the green and gold proudly this past season carried out that tradition in a big way. With numerous provincial championships, regional championships, division championships, all-stars, scoring champions, all-canadians, academic provincial and national achievers and the hosting of two profile OCAA and CCAA events, the year 2010-11 is one for the ages. An all-star staff in our department of athletics combined with the best coaches in the province and the commitments of our highly talented varsity athletes provide blueprints for success at Durham College in varsity athletics. We continue to attract the best student-athletes from Ontario and beyond and we continue to boast one of the best coaching staffs in the country. All this makes up the recipe for success that Durham College has enjoyed for over forty years. Please take the time to walk through the pages that follow in our brilliantly designed 2010-11 Varsity Athletic Yearbook, and see just how great varsity Athletics is at DC. The team success, individual success and special achievements are all appropriately recognized page after page. In addition I would like to sincerely thank the many areas of the campus that support DC varsity athletics, whether it be the print shop, IT, facilities office, health services, athletic therapy, student services, registration and admissions, grounds maintenance, financial aid office, Residence, media services, security, Aramark, academic areas, campus safety office, photo ID office or most significantly the energized and always committed support of the Student Association "YOUR SA". Without all of this team like support across campus we would not be as successful as we are. If you are reading this as a potential new varsity athlete, we would love to have on campus for a tour of our amazing facilities and more. If you are graduating this year, we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours and trust that you will remain a die hard Lords supporter for life! Lastly if you are a returning athlete, we look forward to the fall of 2011 and welcoming you back for another exciting season of DC varsity athletics. All the best! Ken Babcock Director of Athletics Durham College & UOIT Page 2

The student experience comes first. As a Durham College varsity athlete, you are a recognized student leader on our campus. Your determination, initiative, teamwork and superior athletic ability earned you a position on our varsity team. You have set records in fastball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, basketball and golf that will raise the bar for our future athletes. Student Success in varsity athletics means developing winning teams and contributing to student development. Our 2010/11 season has seen a record year of accomplishments on both the National and Provincial scene. Durham won the 2010 CCAA Women’s Golf Championship, OCAA Women’s Golf Championship, OCAA Women’s Fastball Championship, CIBA Ontario Baseball Championship, silver at the 2010 Men’s Golf Championship, bronze at the Canadian Intercollegiate Women's Fastpitch National Championship and were the OCAA East Region League Men’s Volleyball Champions finishing 7th at the OCAA provincials. The Women’s Indoor Soccer team capped off the year by bringing home a silver medal at the OCAA Championships. Durham is extremely proud of the well deserved recognition Mike Duggan earned as both the CCAA and OCAA Coach of the Year. This has also been the year Durham College successfully hosted the 2010 OCAA Provincial Women’s Fastball Championship and 2011 CCAA National Men’s Basketball Championship. I would like to congratulate Ken Babcock for his varsity vision and his contribution to our reputation for excellence in college varsity sports. These accomplishments are the result of recruiting the recognized expert coaches and staff who are committed to making the varsity athletic experience a significant part of our students' college education. If you are a graduating student, I believe your experience in varsity sports will contribute significantly to your career success. If you are a returning student, we look forward to seeing you as a senior member of our varsity program next year and supporting our Durham Lords. Margaret Greenley Vice President Student Affairs

Frank Bruno Athlete (Men’s Basketball/Touch Football Player 1981-1983) & Builder Category Frank Bruno was born in Toronto in 1962, and began a successful two-year college career on the basketball court in 1981. The talented two-sport athlete helped lead the Lords to its first ever OCAA Men’s Basketball Championship in 1982-83. That same season, he was also named an OCAA Championship All-Star. As a member of the Touch Football Varsity team, he helped bring home an OCAA Provincial Championship Bronze Medal. He capped off his athletic achievements by being named DC Male Athlete of the Year in his graduating season. Not long after graduation, a serious work place accident fall saw him nearly lose his life. Not given much hope of surviving his injuries, let alone walking or talking again, to everyone’s amazement, Frank overcame paralysis and loss of speech and through intense therapy, he regained the ability to walk and speak again. Simply a miraculous turn of events. His competitive spirit never dampened, as he turned to athletics again and went on to became one of Canada’s most decorated Disabled Athletes in the sport of Track & Field. When all was said and done, he achieved numerous record setting performances provincially, nationally and internationally. Culminating at the 1992 IX Barcelona Summer Paralympic Games, where he competed and won gold in the 100m, 200m and 400m sprints, plus setting two new World and Paralympic Games Records as well as a Canadian Record. All through his time spent representing his country in his new found sport, he always took time out of his schedule to support the Durham College Varsity programs; whether it be helping out at events, cheering the Green & Gold when they played in his hometown or travelling to nearly every OCAA Championship any of our teams competed in. Truly remarkable accomplishments by a truly remarkable human being that we are proud to call one for our own.
Joe Fitzpatrick Athlete Category (Men’s Basketball Player 1976-1979) Paul “Joseph” Fitzpatrick was born in Picton in 1956, and began an exceptional three year college basketball career at Durham College in 1976. As a highly touted freshman, he led the team in scoring with 18.9 points per game and helped lead the Lords to their first ever Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Regional Championship in 1976-77. He was named an OCAA East Region All-Star, the OCAA East Region Most Valuable Player and the team MVP, while leading the Lords to a Bronze Medal at the Provincial Championship. His prowess and achievements on the basketball court continued for two more years and before graduating in 1979, as he had become one of the top scorers in school history, twice leading the team in scoring being named team Most Valuable Player. In his second season, he was named an OCAA All-Star and helped lead his team to a Silver Medal at the OCAA Provincial Championships. His stellar play, combined with a talented group of teammates put Durham College on the map as a serious Championship contender annually in the OCAA. His outstanding play would carry forth in his final year at DC leading the team in scoring with a career high 19.6 ppg. In total, he was honoured three times as an OCAA All-star, awarded team MVP status twice and led the Lords in scoring all three years he played. There is no doubt that Joe was one of the best College Basketball players to ever wear a Durham College uniform and very deserving of Hall of Fame status at DC.
Kerry Vinson Coach Category (Men’s Basketball Coach 1993-1998) Kerry Vinson was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1951, and following a distinguished pro playing career in Europe, he established himself as a premiere basketball coach in the Continental Basketball Association (Professional League). He coached for the Alberta Dusters in the early 80’s where he would go up against some of the best coaches such as soon to be NBA Hall of Famer George Karl. After coaching in the OCAA for a number of years, he began his highly successful coaching run at Durham College in 1993. During his five year run, his teams recorded five consecutive 20 win seasons and achieved Nationally Ranked status each and every year which enabled him to become the winningest coach in Durham College Men’s Basketball history with a stellar record of 125-45 (.735 winning percentage). He led the Lords to the OCAA post-season dance every year but one, making it to the Final 4 and claiming provincial bronze medals in 1993-94 and 1994-95 and Ontario Gold in 1996-97. The Gold medal was the first ever Division I Men’s Basketball Championship in DC history. He then led the Lords to the CCAA National Championship title in Burnaby, BC in 1996-97, the school’s first ever National Championship. That same year, he was one
