Wow, what a year it has been! Our Lords athletes, teams, coaches and varsity staff have certainly made all of us on campus very proud. We celebrated more championships this year, including two national titles, continued to be selected as the host site for championships, and cheered loud and hard as our athletes realized records and milestones that came through hard work and dedication.

I certainly understand the tremendous commitment required to be a success both in the classroom and with varsity sports. I also know it requires leadership, an ability to work as part of a team toward a common goal, and passion. I assure you all of these skills and experiences will serve you well in the years ahead as you graduate and go on to make a difference in the world.

On behalf of our students, faculty, staff and Board of Governors, congratulations to all our athletes on an outstanding and successful season! Your commitment to your sport, studies and the college have helped bring to life the college’s mission that the student experience comes first.

Go Lords!

Don Lovisa President, Durham College

The year 2011-12 will go down in DC history as one of the most successful years ever. A remarkable list of outstanding provincial and national achievements by our Lords teams and numerous amazing individual achievements made this past year truly memorable. Two National Championships as well as a National Bronze Medal led the long list of successes in 2011-12. On behalf of the entire department of Athletics at Durham College, I wish to acknowledge the many triumphs and successes enjoyed by our teams, coaches, student-athletes, athletic therapy crew and supporting team staff. Durham College has a steep tradition of excellence in the OCAA and the CCAA and wearing the green and gold proudly is part of that tradition. This past season our Lords teams carried out that tradition in a big way. Green & Gold proud!

An outstanding roster of coaches combined with an all-star roster of athletic department staff continue to provide a first class athletic program at Durham College. This along with the highly committed and highly talented roster of student-athletes provide an outstanding recipe for success at DC and emphasize our "student experience come first" approach. We continue to attract top student-athletes form Ontario and beyond and we continue to boast one of the best coaching staffs in the country. We also are proud of the dedicated faculty that support our varsity programs so well and help support our serious mandate of academic success as well as athletic success while here at Durham College.

Please take the time to tour through the pages that follow in our wonderfully designed 2011-12 Varsity Athletic Yearbook, and see just how great varsity athletics at DC really is. The team successes, individual achievements, and special records are all appropriately recognized page after page. Support of our varsity programs is critical and I would like to extend a sincere thank you and appreciation to the many areas of our campus that support DC Varsity athletics, whether it be the Print Shop, IT services, Faculty schools, Facilities management, health services, athletic therapy, student services, registration and admissions, grounds maintenance, student centre, financial aid office, residence, media services, security, campus safety office, Aramark food services, photo ID or the energized and always committed support of the Student Association "YOUR SA".

If you are reading this yearbook as a potential new varsity student-athlete, we would love to have you on campus for a tour of our amazing facilities and more. We think you will love DC! If you are graduating this year, we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours and trust that you will remain a die-hard Lords supporter for life! Lastly if you are a returning student-athlete, we look forward to the fall of 2012 and welcoming you back for another exciting and memorable season of DC varsity athletics. Sincerely,

Ken Babcock Director of Athletics Durham College & UOIT

The student experience comes first.

As a Durham College varsity athlete, you are a recognized student leader on our campus. Your determination, initiative, teamwork and superior athletic ability earned you a position on our varsity team. You have set records in fastball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, basketball and golf that will raise the bar for our future athletes.

Varsity athletics at Durham College is synonymous with student success, winning teams, and a positive postsecondary experience for students. Our 2011-12 season has set the standard in varsity athletics yet again with another record year of individual and team accomplishments on both the Provincial and National scenes. Individual awards include, 12 OCAA All-Star awards, 20 OCAA All-Academic awards, and 4 CIBA All-Academic awards. In golf this season, Durham College won the 2011 CCAA and OCAA Women’s Golf Championships and the Men’s team took a silver medal at the provincial level. Men’s Baseball also won both the CIBA Provincial and National Championship for the first time in Durham College history. Durham College successfully hosted and won the 2011 OCAA Provincial Women’s Fastball Championship and brought home a bronze medal from the Canadian Intercollegiate Fastpitch Championship. The Men’s Volleyball team finished in 5th place at the OCAA provincials Championship and the men’s and women’s indoor soccer teams both qualified for the OCAA Championships. We are especially proud of the well-deserved recognition of Coach Sam Dempster who accomplished his 300th career win in baseball this season and has been asked to be Head Coach of the Great Britain National Baseball Team.

Special thanks to Ken Babcock, Director of Athletics, for his vision and dedication to fostering our reputation for excellence in college varsity sports. These accomplishments are the result of recruiting expert coaches and devoted staff members who are committed to making the varsity athletic experience a significant part of our students' college education.

If you are a graduating student, I believe your experience in varsity sports will contribute significantly to your career success. If you are a returning student, we look forward to seeing you as a senior member of our varsity program next year and supporting our Durham Lords.
