TECHNOLOGY HAS BECOME A MAJOR PART OF THE HOSPITALITY EXPERIENCE. WHAT DOES THE HOTEL DO TO STAY CURRENT IN THAT REGARD?
National Hotels Company (NHC) strives to stay abreast of all the latest developments which serve to make the guest experience more pleasant, comfortable, and convenient. The hotel implements modern updated technology within its operations to better serve customers and guests. For example, the hotel has implemented an interactive housekeeping tool to promptly track and address guest requirements and reduce the response and turnaround time. The hotel also offers a self-check-in service, which reduces the guest’s check-in time.
OTHER THAN TECHNOLOGY, DO YOU SEE ANY GLOBAL TRENDS THAT ARE GAINING POPULARITY IN THE INDUSTRY?
NHC’s vision for the upcoming years is aligned with the global trend of prioritizing ESG initiatives. The use of biodegradable items for operations, recycling materials, and using effcient energy sources and products has become one of the main targets to gauge the hotel’s performance and achievements. Another important trend is that social media has become an integral part of the hotel’s business and is competing with, and perhaps overtaking, traditional marketing techniques and tools, which is why it is an area of focus for us.
WHAT WERE THE PRIMARY CHALLENGES THE HOTEL FACED LAST YEAR? HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO OVERCOME THEM?
In 2022, the hospitality industry saw a swift recovery following the pandemic lockdown and safety measures. NHC embraced the challenge, and we ramped up our staff and resources to meet the increasing demand. We also had to upgrade our services and outlets at the property to meet the shifting needs and expectations of our customers.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE PERFORMANCE OF BAHRAIN’S HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY?
Hospitality is a crucial sector that contributes signifcantly to Bahrain’s GDP, and the government has always prioritized it. This is demonstrated by the establishment of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority and, more recently, the Ministry of Tourism. As a result, many activities and initiatives have been planned and executed, leading to a swift recovery of the sector in 2022. The growth in tourism visitors and the increase in the supply of hotel rooms within the country are clear indicators of successful planning and achievement. The sector’s performance can be described as strong, stable, and diverse, with last year’s sector performance indicators refecting this.

WHAT DOES RADISSON BLU HAVE IN STORE FOR ITS GUESTS IN 2023?
Radisson Blu has several innovative surprises planned for its guests in 2023, including projects related to the Health Club, Residence, Spa, and Sol Pool Lounge. The hotel is also planning a variety of major events within the Grand Ambassador Ballroom, such as the St. Patrick’s Day Grand Ball and Ramadan themed offerings. Additionally, the hotel’s Food & Beverage outlets, including the Italian Mondo restaurant and Bo Sabi with its unique Asian cuisine, will continue to offer different special offerings.

The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence and Spa celebrated its 40th anniversary in October 2022. A grand event was held at the hotel’s ballroom, which was attended by board members of the holding company, The National Hotel Company, executive management, dignitaries, and hundreds of distinguished guests.
WITH BAHRAIN INTRODUCING NEW LUXURY HOTEL DESTINATIONS, IS IT MORE CHALLENGING TO STAND OUT FROM THE COMPETITION?
The key to success in hospitality is to remain proactive and have a creative mindset. With the collaboration of National Hotels Company, Radisson Blu is applying innovative strategies and enhancing the hotel’s offerings and product. The efforts of the Ministry of Tourism and Bahrain Tourism & Exhibition Authority are also contributing to growth in Bahrain’s tourism industry, which will have a positive impact on the hospitality sector. We are confdent that Radisson Hotel Group, in collaboration with National Hotels Company, will remain competitive despite the new luxury properties being built within the Kingdom.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE EXPERIENCES AT THE DIPLOMAT RADISSON BLU?
The Diplomat Radisson Blu has been majorly refurbished in the past few years, incorporating modern and contemporary elements while retaining the property’s local and luxury touch, creating a warm welcome and pleasant feeling for guests. The traditional Grand Lobby has retained its charm, with its high ceiling, airy space, marble fnishes, and connection to all the main restaurants. However, the hotel’s human touch and “Yes, I Can” mentality are the main pieces of the success puzzle. From very loyal colleagues who have been with the hotel for over 30 years to recent hires, the hotel’s staff strive to deliver beyond guests’ expectations.
