MILAN EXPO INFORMATION PAVILION
MILAN EXPO INFORMATION PAVILION competition entry | 2014 in collaboration with: lazar đurilć, stefan radovanović The main guiding motive through designing process was a steel, tubular column used in scaffolding. The idea is to create a steel forest applying aged and galvanized tubes and follow the theme of recycling through material reuse and easy construction/dismounting having in mind that the whole concept is ephemeral. By changing the distance between the tubes and their density and height, the space for corridors and pavilion program is created. There are three main elements of space: reception, souvenir shop with chill area and the business center. Since the business center requires more private space it is brought above the ground in a separate unit. The other two programs are merged since their purpose is very similar and flexible. There are no walls and the illusion of the same is created with denser tube grid, defining and dividing separate programs in that way.
floor lights
Pavilion’s space seeks to create an effect of unlimited circulation with certain key points along the way. It is a point cloud in space that can be intersected from any direction. By incorporating this concept, its sole purpose of information sharing is fulfilled and at the same time structure is being dispersed into space.

MIRA TRAILOVIĆ SQUARE competition entry | 2013 in collaboration with: nikola milanović, dejan milanović, petar opačić, hristina stojanović Location of Mira Trailović square has a variety of different users and programs. Surrounded from the Bajlonijeva market in the north, Dzordza Vašingtona street from the west, lodgment buildings from the south and Bitef theater in the east, it is a melting pot off different programs which coexist at this place. The most dominant building at the site is Bitef Theater which is an old evangelist church from 19th century. It was renovated in 1989 with a purpose of creating a theater for live performances with a café bar. On the opposite side is a market the food market which is in very bad condition. The idea of the project is to establish a strong connection with Bitef Theater and to emphasize its program of culture. At the same time, the east-west direction is given a strong physical continuity and a transparent border with the market. Creating steel tubular transparent wall 10m high and giving it multipurpose is exactly what transforms the square into new polygon for cultural events. In front of the structure is a stage where various performances can take place. Furthermore, the square gets granite tiling and slows down the traffic by creating an integrated street.

movie screen The mutual bond with Bitef Theater is very strong now. All artistic events would be organized and hosted by the theater and all necessary equipment could be stored there. Open space of the square has much different feel and it’s not deserted anymore. The Bajlonijeva market is separated, but not completely covered since the wall itself is transparent. Bringing people together and creating live atmosphere in the square is the main purpose of the project. The wall itself is quite flexible and can produce a variety of different ambiences. One of the possibilities is creation of the green wall with creeper plants which can bring comfort and life to this space. On the other hand, the wall can be used for open movie or theater projections during the night as well as artistic exhibitions, musical concerts, sports events.

NELT WINERY
situation
NELT WINERY competition entry | 2013 in collaboration with: lazar đurić, stefan stoisavljević, stefan radovanović
Location for the winery is at the edge of the vineyard field descending towards the water channel. By analyzing the site, panoramic view south of the channel popped out like one of the best attributes of this location. Furthermore, the physical extension of the vineyards towards the panorama creates an interesting relation between the existing nature and its consumers. In this way, winery blends with the ground. Surrounding space suddenly becomes a single unit with the project. This long extension has a purpose of a roof and a cover for the big terrace below. At the same time it creates a polygon for further development of the project. Right below the roof is the exhibition space which has access to the big terrace which offers panoramic view to the south. There is also an office which has direct connection to the production part. The natural slope was used to position the production part in the ground which requires dark and cold space.

final composition
Production and exhibition parts are closely connected with vertical communication and with openings in the floor through which the visitors can observe the wine cellar below. These floor openings are covered with transparent glass tables. In this way, strong multipurpose unity is achieved. People are connected with nature and wine. Nature and vineyards are represented as singular continuity.

URBAN ASSEMBLER
situation
URBAN ASSEMBLER thesis project | 2014 mentors: prof milan đurić, prof dr jelena šekularac, doc dr milica milojević One of the main problems of the site is its abandonment. Abandoned space is a space which lost its initial function for which it was constructed or it is in very little use. Inside this space, there is resemblance of the life that it had once. There are trails of past times which have bad influence to its close and broad surroundings. The factories that once worked now represent a ruin of architecture. The whole complex has resembles of a post-apocalyptic city. Architecture is dying slowly. The phenomenon of perceiving time as a single frozen moment in past represents a moment when some being, thing or object are becoming eternal. It is an instance in time when visual perception transforms into reality and becomes touchable. This perception is connected with existence of so called timeless architecture. It can be identified with the term eternal architecture because it is consisted of all needed elements for such representation. This architecture is independent, strong, fused with nature and adaptable. Temporary architecture can be defined as mobile space or space which is being used for certain amount of time after it gets taken down and moved. The terms change and transformation are in close relation with temporary architecture. This architectural concept is best perceived through this physical, but also programmed change. Temporary architecture is often very flexible regarding the function and location. These structures are mostly conditioned by ground type and are often treated as test projects for new technologies without the pressure of being built to live forever.
compositional plan
18
Hybridization of temporary and timeless architecture is the solution for abandonment of the location of Old Sugar Refinery. The space is assemblage and time is assembler. Time, through the process, accumulates and changes elements on the given polygon which are dependent of spatial and functional program. Time is seen as a unity so that the final result cannot be realized in far future since it is in the state of constant change. The goal is to find the best solution for the location of Old Sugar Refinery with help from certain programed spatial concept which forms through hybridization of temporary and timeless architecture. It is needed to fit present elements (timeless) with new elements (temporary) which will constantly evolve and adjust. The main program of the project is based on typology of nanotechnology center. The main focus is research in specific area. The type of research is basic and applied. In the context of temporary and timeless hybridization, the sole purpose of research is its flexibility. The variability of program follows the variability of physical structure. Location will keep its existing objects and if needed get new ones whose goal would be satisfaction of program requirement in given moment. In time, these physical states will change, transform and adapt with its environment. Based on society needs in certain point in time, program will change accordingly. Current state is based on present needs of society in Serbia. Apart from the main program, there are additional lodgment and student buildings. In a course of time, program is expected to have cultural and sports focus with energy efficient systems like solar panels and kinetic façade.
As far as location is concern, it has two main parts. First one is the Old Sugar Refinery which stopped production twenty years ago, but some parts of it are still active. The other part is NIS Oil Refinery which is operational but not with full capacity. The main idea is to fuse new temporary architecture with existing timeless architecture and create a sophisticated program which will coexist with the current state and at the same time bring new activity to this place. Platform is lowered at the size of location and after series of criteria such as green spaces, existing buildings, operational buildings, approach, and connection. The final design represents the state in future which could happen. This is just single possible scenery which is further deducted, but there could be many more since we cannot know the exact society needs in the future. Further development of the project is its simplification and deduction through 10 phases to the state in which it is needed today.
Current program is nanotechnology center which is located at upper base. Apart from this, in the lower base is located nanotechnology exhibition space with two high rise buildings which have a purpose of housing for students and homeless people. This social experiment is also a part of temporary (students) and timeless (homeless) architecture concept.

PRISON
PRISON school project | 2013 mentors: prof milan đurić, arch aleksandar bobić, arch nevena poledica The goal of this school project was to design a prison for three hundred inmates. Even though the prison program is very strict, there was a possibility to experiment and try to find different concepts of prison which would normally work following the strict prison regulations. The type of the prisoners can be varied as well.
kitchen
laundry
gym
education
visits process ambulance
induction
detainees
staff facility
central control
workshop industry
Main idea was to expand the purpose of a prison which doesn’t just hold prisoners but also benefits the society around it. In order to achieve this, one more facility is brought to coexist with the prison. This is an industrial factory which production can be anything that society needs at a certain moment in time. Fusing the programs of prison workshops with industrial factory creates a symbiotic relation. Inmates’ retribution can be lowered if they work in the factory. On the other hand, factory benefits greatly for having free man power. This beneficial relation is closely monitored, controlled and maintained.

Both facilities have linear concept. Factory is a very long ‘line’ that spans across the site of the project, therefore the prison is just a unity of dots across this long line which tends to be as close to the line as possible.

CLIFF HOUSE
situation
CLIFF HOUSE school project | 2011 mentors: arch grozdana šišović, arch milan maksimović
Location of the house is a cliff 50m high from the sea level. Since the interpretation and structure of the cliff was totally free, the concept was shaped around this idea. House is positioned on the ‘edge’ and anchored to the side of the cliff. Verticality is emphasized as every floor contains one room type except the middle floor where kitchen, dining area and living room are at the same level. If observed from the land, it appears as the building is barely visible since it’s almost totally transparent at the top. This space is used as a study room but can be interpreted as a point view since it has open 360 degrees view. Façade consists of glass membrane with wooden rotating panels which have different heights and widths, but same thickness. These panels have a purpose of creating different interior ambiences with sunlight and visually increasing the verticality of the house.
