I hold an architectural degree from the University of KwaZulu Natal, am currently working as an architectural designer at ARRCC. My aspirations are to penetrate into the furniture production scene, with the aim of producing designs that strike a balance between functionality, innovation and elegance. I believe I have a discerning eye that I harass daily with my passion for photography and a bit of graphic design. The 426 Dining Table epitomizes my design philosophy as its highly considered, serving its function while appealing to the eye.
Sustainability through Versatility and Flexibility. Sustainability is a broad topic that can be achieved in multiple ways including versatility and flexibility, and the 426 Table is an epitome of this idea. Space is moving in a direction where it's very open and is becoming one, which is somewhat sustainable in that spaces end up serving multiple functions. The table is design allows it to take 2 forms, as a four-seater and a six-seater, doubling up as a space saver while allowing one to host a greater number of guests for dinner. This is ideal for apartment living or even restaurants which are common spaces widely used nowadays. The table is a response to the growing need for multifunctional furniture, something that goes hand-in-hand with the above mentioned evolving use of space as living areas are becoming more open and versatile in use.

Materials. Details and Finishes The table base is made of a powder coated black square steel frame with a detail feature where two support elements slide out on either side to support the extension portions of the 20mm thick timber top. The open-able timber tops are fixed with brass hinges that add to the elegance of a such a simple and relevant design solution, complemented by the feature brass edging which celebrates the distorted joint when the table is closed. Materials have been carefully chosen, with the brass adding an element of elegance and the steel frame being the neutral side, as a finish that works any other accent color. This gives the timber the freedom to explore, and adds to the versatility and flexibility of this piece of art. Allowing the client to choose a specific timber finish that adhere to whatever mood they're going for. This expands the table’s target from Apartment to restaurants wanting to add a modern touch into their spaces.
