Project to spruce up Magistrate’s Court

“The Magistrate’s Court, or rather, the shocking state of it, has been a source of shame for residents for many years. With plans now afoot to give the building the facelift it so desperately needs, it is time for all of us to put our money where our mouths are,” says long-time resident, Avis MacIntyre, who is spearheading this initiative.

According to Avis, the project to give the court buildings a new coat of paint has met with the blessing of the chief magistrate, Mr LP le Roux. The pair called for tenders and received two from the six contracting companies they contacted. The lowest tender for the contract is from Walker Bay Painters.

“But it requires input from us, the residents – to the tune of R91 321.25,” says Avis. “Work can go ahead only when the funds become available.”

The building has not been painted or maintained in any way since 1990. In the intervening 29 years the paint has deteriorated to the point that it has peeled off in many places, revealing the plaster below.
